Hello,
Here's a strange question that hopefully someone will know...
I want to charge my phone by USB, but I want to do that while using 3G. Everytime I plug in the USB cable it immediately disables 3G and tries to connect using my computer's internet connection (which is not what I want to do)... I have tried uninstalling ActiveSync to avoid this, but then it doesn't really charge... the orange light turns on for about a minute, then shuts off and it starts draining again.
Any ideas? Is there a setting I can change? Or is there a different driver I should use?
Thanks in advance!
Open Activesync and under 'Connection settings' enable 'Allow wireless connection on the device while connected to the desktop'
Thanks for the tip. Strangely, though, I've done that and am still having the same problem. It doesn't connect to 3G while I'm connected by USB.
Is your unit an AT&T 'Tilt" by any chance??
Yep, the Tilt.

OK, that means any info (fom the rest of the world HTC) probably won't work on your 'Tilt'.
we really need to clarify these ROM diferences!
Hang on guy, this forum is here to sort it!!!
If you don't need to use activesync, you could just disable the connection. Just right-click on activesync on the system tray, and click Connection Settings, and just untick the 'Allow USB connections' option. Then just enable it again when you need to use it.
Or just do what i do, plug the usb in just far enough to give the phone power, but not far enough in to make the computer detect it.
One simple thing... Have you tried using your phone whilst connected to the supplied charger?
You won't have any USB connected internet then!!!
I don't know about 3G but my O2 Steller with Voda sim in still shows an HSDPA connection when charging or/and connected via activesync.

Having a problem with my Tilt. I've checked the box on the PC side of activesync to allow the device to use its wireless connection while connected, but, the Tilt still refuses to use it. Can't connect to the internet, when connected to USB.
Any help is appreciated.
I had this problem as well. There is a setting on the PC side of ActiveSync to enable/disable this.
Go to File-->Connection Settings. Enable the check box for "Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop"
I have the same problem, both when connected to my home PC, and my work PC. And like the OP, I have checked the box in AS to allow wireless connectiosn on the device.
I thought that that was to allow MMS etc to continue working whilst sync'd as you have passthrough working anyway (ie you can connect to the web via activesync)?
And its not referring to wifi, but cellular wireless.
I have the same problem on a Vodafone branded V1615 - I have "allow wireless connections.." checked in the Activesync settings on the PC, but the phone is unable to connect to the internet either via the USB or by opening a GPRS/3G connection - in fact it flatly refuses to do the latter, and just tells me to check my settings.
I don't honestly know whether I should be able to connect to the internet via the USB or not - I don't know if my work network has blocked that in some way - but I don't see why, in the absence of a working internet connection via Activesync, it doesn't just open up a GPRS/3G connection. Anyone?
Any answers on this? It's driving me nutz!
Can someone help me. I've been trying to connect my laptop through my Kaiser using internet sharing. All the connections have been made but the phone will not allow the connection to the internet just the local between laptop and phone. When I use my Kaiser alone the internet works great. What am I doing wrong?

I just tried this for the first time yesterday (usb) and it worked fine for me.
make sure active sync isnt running.
start up interent sharing, and hit connect before you plug the usb cable into your phone. If i dont do tha tthe connection fails sometimes. It should come up with 'check usb connection'. When it says that, plug in the usb cable, and you should be good to go.
I've tried the usb, but still the same thing; connection between Kaiser and laptop is fine but can't get access to the internet.
hi, i just got my kaiser, i tried pluged the usb cable to my desktop for activesync, some how the little window said no partnership, is there something i need to install or set up, will some one helps, thanks
Presuming that you have Activesync installed & that the problem is that 4.5 can't connect to the Kaiser... this may be the same problem I spent 2 hours on this morning. Go to settings/connections/USB to PC & turn off the "Enable Advanced Network Functionality". That seemed to do the trick for me.
I did a silly the other day and I disabled the "Local Area Connection" created by the PDA when connecting via USB/Activsync. I was annoyed that it was always "connecting." If you disable that connection, you disable USB/Activesync. lol
following the previous poster's instructions, you disable that connection correctly.
thank, linecutter it is working fine now
I browse the Internet on my laptop using to the GPRS/EDGE connection of my network provider and Internet Connection Sharing on my Kaiser.
I have been trying hard to establish a Dial Up Networking using either a Bluetooth or USB but with no success.
Bluetooth:
1. I make my laptop Bluetooth enable by using a BlueTooth dongle.
2. Pair the Kaiser and Laptop.
3. On my Kaiser, I cant see any service listed.
4. Though i can see that Win XP did detect a Bluetooth Modem and it installed it. When i "Query Modem" in my Control Panel for the BT modem, it does successfully query it.
5. I create a new Dial up connection and use this modem, however it never starts to connect to the GPRS.
I do have a Sony Ericsson T610, where i do exactly the same thing and the internet works like a charm.
Please can somebody explain me step by step process how to achieve this. I have read 100's of forums and imported many registry keys but it simply doesnt work. The same was the case with my Hermes(TMobile Vario II).
The ROM details are in my signature.
Thanks in advance.
Activesync?
last time i tried this, i used a USB cable and activesync was installed on my pc...it worked like a charm and the steps are oh-so-easy!!!
using a USB cable, follow these steps:
1. ensure the applications on your phone (web browsers, weather applications, etc) can use your data connection (edge/gprs) just fine
2. on your pc, you have to have either activesync installed (if you have windows xp) or windows device center (if you have windows vista)...i have only tried this with activesync so can't guide you further regarding vista
3. sync your phone and pc with activesync...just plugging in the USB cable on your phone and pc will usually get activesync going
4. on your phone, go to "Settings->Connections->Comm Manager" and hit the "Internet Sharing" button...a configuration page will open...select "USB" under "PC Connection" and whatever your data connection name is on your phone under "Network Connection"
5. hit connect!
now on your pc, check if the internet applications are working!
Note: it helps to disable ALL OTHER network interfaces on your pc from Device Manager

I dont want with Internet Connection Sharing. I want to use with Bluetooth Dial-up networking. Why? The reason is that with ICS, my screen glows permanently(even at the lowest bright option) and eats the battery. BT the screen will go off and still be connected.
True true...BUT!

that makes sense...BUT...the phone charges when it is connected to USB so Internet Connection Sharing worked well for me on my DESKTOP...but you have a laptop so it wouldn't make much sense in the long term to have your phone charge off your laptop's battery when you're on the go! i see your point!
When I disconnect from Kies, the device still appears in my My Computer as a storage device. I cannot seem to find a way to properly disconnect. (your device is not safe to remove....etc...)
Is there a way to disconnect just like with USB's to ensure safe disconnection?
Is it ok to just disconnect even if the Galaxy Note still appears in My COMPUTER as a storage device?
Is it just me having this problem?
Slide down your notification and Click on the USB Connection and then Click Disconnect. How did you manage to connect in the first place?

Just connected the Note to the PC using the cable that came with the device.
If I slide down the notification area there is no option that says DISCONNECT. It only says that USB connection on going. There is no DISCONNECT option on the device or on the PC itself.
By the way, this is the stock ROM from Samsung, touchwiz. No rooting has been done.
Any idea guys?
I could disconnect through Kies, but even after doing that, the device still appears in My Computer as a storage device.

Click on the USB Connection and then you will have the option to Disconnect
My windows PC does not have a USB connection icon when the Note is connected to it unlike when a USB is connected to it.
Am I the only one experiencing this? Is this a Note thing or a PC thing? or a software/android thing?

Actually, there is no such option ...
If you connect with MTP protocol (default setting), you don't need to do anything before unplugging.
If you connect through USB protocol (you would have to set it up on the phone beforehand), then the usb icon will be there and you should eject from the PC then pull down notification bar to stop the usb connection before unplugging.
