You want to connect to the internet through your home pc via usb/BT?
You might want to try this.. I'm not SURE, just offering a suggestion.. someone can confirm/bunk this either way..
Start|Settings|Connections|Connections
One of the settings there might work for you,
If not.. theres a Little blue Question mark in the top right that actually has some pretty in depth info..
Sorry I couldnt be of more help, but it's a start.
Is ActiveSync actually working for you? I mean... is your Kaiser synching with your PC?
If activesync is working fine, try this on your PC (not on your Kaiser).
Open Regedit and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services
Create a new DWORD data type called "AllowLSP" and set it to 0
Plug your Kaiser again and let me know if it worked.

if i'm reading right you want to use internet sharing using usb or bluetooth and browse the internet using your PC?? is it?
1.first open setting in your active sync then uncheck allow the usb connection .
2.plug in the usb cable to ur pc and kaiser
3.open the internet sharing in your kaiser end select conection typ usb or bluetooth.
4.connect. (your computer will be installing rds driver automaticcaly)
5.then you'll have a gprs internet trough your pc
note you must have gprs/3g connection available in ur network.
in ur pc in the internet connection option makesure you select direct connection if you use firefox/opera.
Hope this solve your problem.

You are wanting to browse IE on your phone using the Activesync usb or BT connection (phone uses PC's internet connection for data) am I correct in thinking that?
I'm not sure what you mean by 'No comm ports available' as your WM device connects via USB?
Sorry if these steps may seem a bit condecending but best to check all.
1, Has your PC got a working internet connection (can you browse IE on your PC) ?
2, Is Activesync actually working (your contacts and mail are sync'ed) ?
3, In connection settings on Activesync (PC) you need 'Allow wireless connection' unchecked (Checked for tethering, PC goes through phone 3G) or phone will try to go through any data connections of its own first.
4, On your WM device under 'Settings' 'Connections' 'USB to PC, check the 'Enable advanced network functionality'
Hope this helps.
I have a similar query, I can use my PC's internet connection from home, but when I connect to my work PC it does not. Now I know this is down to the fact that my Work PC uses a proxy server, but how do I add this info in to my Tytn2.
Hi Farsquidge,
I have followed your steps above, but when I try to connect to IE on my device, I get the message "The current connection cannot be used for your request. Please end the current connection and try again."
Any ideas?
Also, many thanks for the widespread advice you have given throughout the fora - it has really helped me get the most of out of my TyTN2!

Your welcome.
Is your device an 'out of the box' HTC device that was not bound to a carrier contract? Some carrier (ie. AT&T Vodaphone) seem to have settings within the ROM (seen in other threads) that tie you in to only using their settings (ie Media.net) and using a proxy that cannot be changed for IE only for GPRS connections.
Anyone got ideas on this one.
Unfortunately, Orange UK got their hands on my TyTN2 before I did! Perhaps that's the source of my problems?

Are Orange UK (I am from UK but living abroad now) still wanting to promote their own Internet?
I know only last year a pal of mine said he could not connect his Nokia through his home WiFi because it would not connect via his BT Internet.
Check if you have a proxy connection set up on your GPRS cause ya never know!!!
I can connect to any Wifi network and access webpages without problems. Doesn't seem that there are any restrictions from that point of view. Thanks for the help - guess it's not really a problem not having Internet access via ActiveSync, as it connects to the Wifi network.
i guess i shoulda been more specific.
i wanted to browse the internet on my kaiser, using the active sync connection. however it wasnt working, but now ive re-installed opera and it works with that, not sure if it works with IE yet.
installed Opera and still no hope.
my tytn II is out of the box, not on any contract with an operator. can any one please help me..

Depending on what ROM you have, check if it has a proxy setting in your Connections tab.
latest tmobile rom.
has proxy settings, but not set, shouldn't need to.
so no one else has a problem with the latest activesync?
I'm on T-Mobile USA and i'm not having any problems with ActiveSync (Version 4.2) and T-Mobile's latest 2.26 ROM.
Can you post more information about your setup, both PC and MDA? As it could be a configuration issue.
Activesync works fine, syncs all my stuff no probs. Just cant use the internet.
I thought you could just open pie and it would automatically connect?
Can't get to internet using activesync
I can sync, but cannot update pocketweather. Any ideas?
Same problem, internet doesn't work for me at all.
Gosh dunno why I'm having such a hard time with the internet working. On my first 8125 everything went fine, internet work with activesync and wi-fi without setting anything. But now I can't seem to get them to work at all with 2 newer 8125. Try Mr. Clean rom, Molski, summitter, format my computer. None was able to get my internet back? Can anyone tell me what setting did they put inorder to get thier internet thur activiesync and wi-fi.....thou I thought it should just automatically be the same as my comp ADSL ....like before, plug and away I can update weathers and surf net?
Anyone out there, got there internet working smoothly like I had in the first time?
might have the answer, worked for me.
Okay for anyone that is having problems with Internet working thur Activesync, you can try to go into start, setting, connections, usb to pc and uncheck enable advanced network functionality.
And it work for me, yahooooooooooo....
But what about eMail?
I have my TMO MDA set up for a Comcast eMail account. When I go GPRS, the eMail works fine.
But when I use Activesynch and my USB cable, I get "Cannot connect with current connection settings...."
Also, is there ANY way to have eMail give me the full message the first time, rather than requiring be me to click on the full message and reconnect?

Great. When I try to go into "USB To PC" the application basically crashes. Does anyone know the registry edit that would be needed to disable advanced network functionality?

Also check Active sync, File -> Connection settings -> this computer is connected to: -> The Internet.
This did the trick for me, now it's updating perfectly.
AFAIK the kaiser should use my home net connection when synched with my PC right?
I remember when I was setting up / installing that I ticked some kind of box to not use hosts net conn when attached via USB (God knows why I did, I knew it was a bad idea after i hit OK...) but I don't remember where I set it.
I have looked around and can't seem to find any setting like that - any ideas?
if i'm not mistaken, that's a setting you need to change when you DON'T have your device connected to your pc.

Hmm, that reg entry didn't seem to do it. I still can't access the net on my mobile through my pc.
its a setting in activesync/Mobile Device center, you will know it when you see it
In activesync go to file-->connection settings...--> and uncheck the allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop and your phone should stop using gprs instead of activesync to connect to the net when your connected.
hmm I still can't get a Internet connection through my computer! Does someone else still have the same problem?

Your Kaiser should have it's own IP adres cause syncing is a network-based affair these days, so this might cause the problem in your network setup...
Check Settings/USB to PC ; change the Enable advanced network functionality, and try again. Happend to me in Vista, and after messing with this setting Windows Update downloaded latest driver for HTC and fixed the problem. (As i remember you can change it back afterwards, if it solves your problem).
thanks for all the help so far guys.
It definately seems to be an issue with activesync (ie the desktop PC) because when I connect to my PC here at work, it is all fine.

Thanks darkilici...!! I un-checked "advanced network functionality" under Seettings, Connections, USB-to-PC, and when I plugged my TyTn II back into my PC - it "found" the device again, re-loaded the driver, and now I am accessing the Internet on my TyTn II through my PC! Thanks......HUGE!
Much appreciated.
Unchecking it caused my phone to be able to use wireless while synched - thanks!
But if I tick it again, it goes back to how it was.
The error I am getting is:
"The page you are looking for cannot be found due to error 0x80072f78"
Even with it unticked, it's not really what I want. I want it to use my much faster broadband connection while tethered...
I think I may do a hard reset.
I forgot to ask, by any chance are you on T-Mobile (or any network that requires a proxy to access the net over GPRS)? If you are, then you have to disable the proxy server to be able to access the net over activesync.
Yes, I am on T-Mobile with Web n Walk.
Do you mean the one in "Connections"?
I removed that proxy tickbox and it seems to work now. Do I not need the proxy? What is it for? Cacheing? Or is it only to enforce the "No adult content sites" block? (Which I have removed so I can access facebook)
Thanks ever so much!
I'm on t-mobile in the US and I have to have the proxy to access the net over GPRS or it won't work at all. I'm not sure about if you need the proxy in the UK or not, but the easiest way to find out is to try to access the net over GPRS without the proxy and see if it works or not. If it doesn't the it would probably be easier for you to set up a second connection, the first with the proxy the way you already have it set up and then a second that has the same settings as the first only without the proxy settings. Then, just switch between the 2 when needed. Unfortunately that's the simplest way to do it that I have found.
Hmm, I'm actually looking for something like this, but not. Anyone know of a way to make it use AT&T's internet while connected to a computer with ActiveSync? That registry tweak works great for when I'm at home, but when I'm at work or something, I may want to use my phone's internet (GPRS/EDGE/3G/HSDPA). I have a program that lets me control my kaiser from a computer (MyMobiler), but it needs activesync. If I have Activesync, I have to use my work internet (which I don't want to do). Hopefully that makes sense.. Any ideas?

I have been working on setting up Internet Sharing on my laptop(s) for a few days now and have searched and read through the forums to no avail. I need the USB Modem Driver for Win2K and XP (SP2 if it matters). I put the set up CD in and searched it, but it list drivers only for Vista (32 and 64 bit).
Does anyone know a solution for this or know how to get hold of these drivers?

Can you not use Internet Connection Sharing?
If I knew how....
I could most likely use ICS if I knew how. When I plug the phone into the laptop it displays the found new hardware wizard, but no compatible driver for it to use. I have done a search on google, here on the forums and the MS website and am not able to locate the HTC USB Driver that is called for in the wireless modem section of the users guide.
I have seen some information about using ICS, but nothing to tell me how it works or what I need to do to get it to work. Is it a matter of installing Active Sync onto the laptops I want to use, then kick off ICS to access the web from the laptop?
Thanks,
Bobby
i too have been desperately searching for this. I can't seem to find anything. This laptop is my primary computer so it already has ActiveSync and the Tilt setup, but it won't recognize it once I switch the phone into "wireless modem" mode (where it deactivates the activesync functions)

I'm sure this has already been covered somewhere... but, did you search for the standard Internet Sharing app that was supposed to be on WM6 ROMS by default? I bought my Tilt 2 weeks ago, am on the stock ROM, and found the app hidden in \Windows and it works fine here. If you find it there just create a shortcut and place it in \Start\Programs or wherever you want.

So to get this to work all that needs to be done.
connect phone to laptop (regardless of O/S Version) via USB cable
start ICS and you are off and running?
No driver install is needed on the laptop (including no activesync install needed), is that correct?

10.9 Using Your Device as a Modem
(Internet Sharing)
Internet Sharing connects your PC or notebook computer to the Internet by using your device’s data connection (GPRS or EDGE, for instance). You can choose to connect via USB or Bluetooth.
Follow the procedure in this section to set up your device as a USB modem. To learn how to set up your device as a Bluetooth modem, see “Use the device as a Bluetooth modem” in this chapter.
Notes • Make sure your device has a SIM card installed, and your device has a GPRS or phone dial-up modem connection. If your device has not been set up with a data connection yet, tap Menu > Connection Settings on the Internet Sharing screen.
• If you want to use a USB cable connection, you must first install Windows Mobile Device Center or Microsoft ActiveSync version 4.5 or later on the computer.
• Before using Internet Sharing, disconnect from Windows Mobile Device Center or ActiveSync on your computer.
• On your computer, run 3gnetopt.exe from the Application Disc to optimize the connection speed between your device and computer.
To set up your device as a USB modem
1. On your device, tap Start > Programs > Internet Sharing.
2. In the PC Connection list, select USB.
3. In the Network Connection list, select the name of the connection that your device uses to connect to the Internet.
4. Plug in the USB cable between your device and the computer.
5. Tap Connect.
To end the Internet connection
On the Internet Sharing screen, tap Disconnect.
hope this helps someone
Hey guys, I usually try and post whenever I finally figure something out...I was getting the error message: Cannot Connect "the remote party has ended the connection" and from some of what I was reading it was because I was trying to use internet sharing with a mediamax $20 plan and I wouldn't be able to do that any longer because of something embedded in WM6 which told AT&T that I was tethering. Well my laptop is connected right now via usb through internet sharing on WM6 on my 8925/tilt and I have the $20 plan. I just checked my speeds and I am at 1485kb/s upload and 339kb/s (is that good?) seems much faster that wireless modem connection I used to use on 8525 w/ wm5. Internet sharing is the way to go. I am not exactly sure what fixed my problem--I did a few things and finally stopped getting the cannot connect: remote party...error. I first erased the user name and password under the connection settings ([email protected]) and left both fields blank. That didn't fix it like it did for some others that I read about so I did a power down and power back up (not sure if this is different than a reset with the stylus in the hole). Still wasn't fixed...On the internet sharing screen the second box under network connection I changed from "AT&T isp GPPRS" to "media net" and then connected and it worked. I don't think I need the username and password for anything because I can still browse on the phone without them--not sure why they were there. I haven't checked to see if I can internet share with the password and username reinserted...Hope that helps someone else out...don't give up it is possible to internet share through mediamax $20 with WM6...
Quick Fix For Those who couldn't figure it out
On your AT&T Tilt or (Possibly any Windows Mobile 6 Device)
Navigate to your "file explorer"
Step 1 (Locate the File Explorer) Not Internet Explorer
Start > Programs > Tools > File Explorer
(Possibly) Start > Programs > File Explorer
(Possibly) Start > File Explorer
Step 2 (Using File Explorer navigate to "My Device")
Then Locate the "Windows" Folder
Scroll all the way down to InternetSharing (Press the letter "I" to get you there faster)
Have your the device plugged into your computer and run that application and make sure these 2 options are selected:
PC Connection: USB
Network Connection: Media Net
Hit Connect
If it doesn't connect for you right away or gives an error message try this:
Unplug your phone from the computer
On the internet sharing application press Connect and immediately connect the USB cable.
Hope this works for others.
Have a data plan with at&t or you might be seeing some rather large charges on your internet bill.

Is that a USB RNDIS driver? As in no need for activesync?
I know it is possible, as I used usb-rndis-lite to use my kaiser as a modem on linux, but I never found anything that allowed me to share the conn via usb without activesync.
FYI, for those who do not have activesync for whatever reason, WMWiFiRouter will let you do it via WiFi.
The easiest way.
Just install the latest activesync.
If you don't want it syncing, no problem. Just right click on the activesync icon in your task bar, go to connection settings and uncheck allow USB connections. You'll still be able to use Internet Sharing but it won't try to sync every time.
After you have activesync on your computer you'll be able to use the Internet Sharing all you want. Just be sure you press connect on your device before you plug the usb cable in. Otherwise sometimes it won't connect.
Don't abuse it, or most likely your provider will slam you with tethering charges if it's very obvious you're using it. Assuming you don't have a tethering plan, of course.
Sometimes (eg on a corp laptop) you are not allowed to install activesync for example, but a driver would be OK - so it's always good to have alternatives.
Not so much of an issue now as WMWifiRouter is a more universal solution, but not all machines have wifi, so an RNDIS driver for USB would still be nice to have handy.
Been on T-Mobile web'n'walk (the basic one, not the tethered one) for over 6 months now, I use tethered mode on a daily basis, not had any complaints or charges yet. Mind you, I don't really hammer it, just web pages, ppc app downloads, a bit of youtube maybe. They could probably tell by looking at the browser IDs, but I doubt I am top of their list.
Even if they do hit me with the charge for the "Pro" version that allows tethering, it's only another £5 a month and I am on the lowest voice tariff anyway as I have an HTC original and not a subsidised phone.
WOW!!!! I can't believe this thread went as long as it did. Grats to DuMnUt101 and Evilc.. I wish I had my usb cable here with me so I could test the active sync part. Did this guy ever get it working?
The driver attached previously is not a ICS driver but a modem driver - you need to supply APN, username and password. Could possibly work, but when I run the EXE, it does not detect the phone as a modem.

Hi,
If you want to use internet sharing from HTC Modem via USB you just have to activate that functionality on the phone and then connect the USB cable to your PC.
Your windows will ask for drivers if you dont have ActiveSync4.5 installed (XP/NT2000/NT2003).
If you have ActiveSync already installed (this will install usb modem drivers you need) then you should have no problem with drivers and will be ready to use your mobile's shared internet.

Hi,
If you just want to use internet shared by your phone on your PC, you just have to install ActiveSync4.5 (this will install the usb modem drivers required).
This will set you ready to use the mobile's internet on your PC.
After this you can always get the drivers using "Device Manager".
Hope this is the answer you wanted!
Double post from out of no where..
Nothing to see here.
I read somewhere you can use the diamond as a modem for a laptop, but i cant seem to get it working. Also i cant find any setting for this.
Has anybody experience with this?? please advice
Well, I don't know about a modem per se, but if you want to use your phone's internet connection to connect to the Internet from your PC, do the following:
Before connecting the Diamond to your PC, start the "Internet Sharing" app (located in Start - Programs). You can select Bluetooth for your PC connection, but it will drain the battery on your phone in NO TIME. Select USB, and then select the network connection you use to connect to the Internet on the phone itself (the default will usually suffice), and then click Connect. This will start the app, at which point you can plug it into your PC and your PC should do the rest.
I use as a modem regularly. I have not found the need to start Internet Sharing before connection....just connect in the normal way, letting ActiveSync do its thing as you have told it to. Just watch after you have finished that the link drops...I forgot once and it cost me! I use MoDaCo Nodata to prevent any unwanted connections. You can also set long-prees-end-key to kill the connection.

Hello.I'm looking for a program which have to stop totally GPRS using. There are many programs which use GPRS by default and GPRS costs me a fortune. Is there a program which turns off GPRS entirely ?
Thank you
Sorry for my english,Im still studying it.
I've found a program, but I can't try it.After I removed WMWiFiRouter everytime when I connect the phone to the PC it recognizes it as Windows Mobile based Internet Sharing Device and ActiveSync can't connect to the phone. And the phone no more shows me the menu to choose if I want to connect to the PC through ActiveSync or (I forgot the other) and it appears Internet Sharing program.Help.
Can tell me how to restore my previous type of connection? Thank you in advance.
There is a program called nodata that will allow you to select and disable your GPRS connection. I haven't used it, but it seems to be pretty popular.
Thank you,but I have this program already,as I have written.I'm looking for a solution of the other problem that I've described previously in the topic.
Edit: I don't know exactly what I've done but I fixed it.
I've the same problem (getting no active sync anymore but internet sharing device) so maybe anybody knows how to solve it?
why don't you guys try kaiser tweak, i believe it's got some options for disabling and enabling gprs and activesync. http://www.jongma.org/KaiserTweak/
I've solved it. on my phone at least: i activated the internet sharing via bluetooth, connected, dosconencted. set it to usb and connected and disconnected again and after that active sync worked again....
but thanks for the tool, i'll try that out, too. (maybe there are some other interesting things, too ;-) )
Connecting and disconnecting worked for me too
