Best anti-theft software for Kaiser?

Hello community!
I just wanted to see some input from you guys as far as what is your preferred anti-theft application for your Kaiser phone? There's a few applications out there, and the following is a short list of the most popular apps out there:
- WIMP (Where is my phone)

Theres a few more out there, and I am curious as to see which one has the best options and capabilities. Some of them have GPS tracking systems, others can wipe all your information remotely, either way they have the potential to become real handy in extreme cases.
If anyone has a story to share where they used these applications in a real world situation please share it with the community as well!

I have tried Remoteprotect, and Ultimate theft before Sprite Terminator. Remoteprotect works great but no GPS and Ultimate theft would not shut off when tested. It keeps forwarding the text and its also a gimick you have to buy it in three separte sections. So I would recomend Sprite Terminator.

Thats cool, I was thinking of looking for a program that did this. You cant be too careful .
The only downside I could think of if the sim gets yanked out you´re screwed - right? :S
How does it work, does it trigger a GPS connection every couple of minutes?

yes i am also concerned for that aas well... but i remember reading up on one of those programs listed above that also works in the background even when the sim card get pulled out...

There was one I was looking at, don't remember the name now. Maybe it is one already listed. Anyway, you could go on the internet at any time and see on a map where your phone is, and if someone thought they were going to just take your SIM out and replace it with theirs the phone immediately sends you a text with the phone number of the new SIM card. I thought that was cool, because you would then know who was using your phone.

Wow awesome! Thx for this! The only thing to find out is how to hide it, and cook it with settings into a ROM.

These are all great programs but.....
I had my 8125 stolen and the crook just did a hard reset and the recovery software was gone. Luckily the bad guys had other bad habits and the cops found them. They recovered my phone but it was totally wiped clear, had been reinstalled with new music but no tracking software.
Because not just heavy users know how to do a hard reset the thing that is missing is having the tracking software burned into the rom so it can't be erased. I know this is quite A challenge. But when and if that can be solve we will have a good tool to protect our Under perfoming HTC devices (could not help that last part)

Cook the app into a ROM isn't that hard i think (also i haven't cooked a ROM until now, but seen tutorials which explain how) and in case of smartphonetracker the settings are saved in "settings.config" so we need to cook in a file which 'simply' copys this file into the "Program File" folder. Doesn't sound too hard but the "simply copy.." is may the biggest problem.
For sure nearly everybody who visit this forum is capable of flashing a new ROM and therefore can avoid tracking. But the bit more security is worth the effort, in my opinion.

I still don't understand.
Let's assume some asshole and steals your phone. Why do they do with it?
Option A - Re-sale. Surely this shouldn't be possible as the original owner of the phone will contact the network and the IMEI will be blocked.
Option B - Access to Data. You're device is password protected (right?) so they need that to get into the phone via activesync. As long as they don't switch it off, it might not lock the screen so they'd have to leave your SIM in... but then they'd surely be intelligent (they want data after all) go to flight mode and it won't be able to dial home. And then there's the media card.... even encrypted it probably wouldn' be hard to bypass. Surely the best you can hope for is to send a message and have the phone kill itself.
Option C - Phoning <insert foreign country>. Same answer as A.
Result is, I do not see how this software can be of real use. The best thing that I can think about for this software is someone can text you while you are driving and have it reply where you are on your behalf.
Or am I missing something?

Many Kaisers are not bound to their phone network. I can insert another sim card and use it without limitations.

well how about some thug takes your phone and isn't to savy tech wise. He doesn't take it because it's "the top of the line" driverless phone, no he takes it because it's shinny and looks expensive. So maybe they are smart enough to just turn it off for a little while but at some point they turn it on to check out what it does and to see if it works. I'm thinking at this point you get an email or txt with the gps location. Drop that into google maps, call the coppers, grab a chainsaw and head to where google leads you.
Am I missing something?

Here in the US IMEI blacklisting is not done on GSM phones. The phones are locked to the carrier though, but the phone can be unlocked.

Farewell Tilt

It’s been a bitter sweet journey for me and my tilt over the last year. We've been through many different ROMs many different Mods, and many different apps. We've spent hundreds of hours on this board searching for the newest and greatest tricks a tools we've even spent some times actually being productive. But 2 weeks ago we went our separate ways. In a spat of extreme frustration I renewed my contract with ma bell and enslaved myself to the blue and orange for another 2 years and purchased an iPhone.
While my Tilt could do just about anything I wanted it to do it could do none of it well or consistently. My #1 biggest frustration with the Tilt which ended up being the nail in the coffin was how windows mobile dealt with networking. It never worked reliably moving form edge to wifi and back was painful with apps needing to be restarted an occasionally the phone needing rebooted. Outlook would stop syncing with exchange for days at a time then after a reboot everything would be fine. It was never as simple as pick up the phone and surf the web or pick up the phone and check your email. A very close second is SPEED I had dumb phones 10 years ago that i could pick up and make a call with quicker than the tilt. The windows mobile interface is just not designed for hand held use. Even with the stylus it is extremely frustrating to navigate.
The apps I used most on the Tilt were as follows:
1. Push Exchange/Outlook for Calendar email and contacts <-- This is a must for any device that i will have now or in the future.
2. Beyond Pod for Podcasts <-- I have a long commute and podcasts are a godsend.
3. Palringo <---wonderful app but could not leave it open because of the battery drain
4. Kinoma Freeplay <-- the best media player for WINMO hands down they got a lot of stuff right I was all set to purchase the full version when 3g came to our area but still no 3G an now no Tilt
5. Windows remote desktop client <--- very handy worked well even over edge
6. Opera Mini <-- excellent browser especially for edge i dont thing there is anything that can beat it on edge. I would love to have seen a native version of opera mini because the JVM's (I tried them all) for WM suck I hate to open an application just to open an application yea there were some tricks and shortcuts but nothing completely seamless.
7. Gremote<-- excellent for controlling an HTPC or from the couch. This app paired with a capacitive touch screen would be amazing. Kudos to the author on this simple elegant app.
8. The Phone <-- The tilt was not a good phone. making a phone call to someone not in your address book was extremely painful however if the person is in your address book the smart dialer worked very well. I went through multiple dialer on multiple roms none of them worked well
Apps I used occasionally
1. ICS for tethering via usb <--- Great when it works active sync must be installed on the computer that you want to tether (for usb atleast).
2. WMwifirouter -- for when ICS failed <--- Must be plugged into the wall this program drains the battery faster than anything I have ever seen however it works very well
3. kevtris & Bubble Breaker <-- good to pass the time
4. Alarm clock <--- works as advertised
Now on to the iPhone. I have not Jail broken the iPhone yet. I'm not sure that I need to.
I'll start out with what I don't like
1. No background tasks <-- this reminds me of the days with my Palm IIIc
2. Running in the back ground is key to any instant messenger app so using Palringo on the iPhone is almost worthless
3. most apps do not exit gracefully or save state when you exit especially when you exit unexpectedly like when answering a call.
4. I hate the slide to unlock. You’re not going to accidentally dial someone with a capacitive screen when it’s in your pocket. It’s an unnecessary extra step
5. Lack of configuration options <-- I never thought I’d say this but this might be a blessing in disguise.
6. Lack of physical keyboard. It’s by far the best onscreen keyboard I’ve ever used but still not as good as the worst physical keyboard I have ever used.
7. Lack of a user exposed file  I like to know where my files are and how to get to them. This hasn’t been a problem so far but I would feel better being able to browse a file system
That's really about all that I don't like about the iPhone here is what I like
1. Speed Speed Speed compared to my Tilt this thing is fast opening and closing most apps take about a second to open compared to 3 to 10 on my tilt depending on which app I open.
2. The display and capacitive touch screen together are both beautiful and extremely responsive
3. Visual Voice mail <-- love it I tried a bunch of visual voicemail apps for the tilt none worked as well as this. not making a call to check voice mail is great
4. The dialer <-- Its simple and it works when I dial a phone number all 10 digits show up as opposed to the tilt where I don’t think I ever dialed a 10 digit number correctly on the first try. I do miss the smart dialing from the tile though.
5. Networking <-- Other than problems with a hidden SSID's networking is smooth and transparent never had a problem switching from wifi to edge leaving WIFI on all day does not kill the battery haven’t had a problem with one app being able to access the internet while another cant
6. Battery <--- I can get through the whole day with a single charge on my iPhone I've even watched a half hour of streaming video over wifi at the end of the day before i was warned about a low battery. On my tilt if I used wifi or played back any kind of media or had Palringo open I needed to charge my Tilt before I got home in the evening.
I have yet to sync the phone with iTunes I haven't really found a need to yet. Although i probably will soon because there is a firmware update available
The apps I use
1. RSS Player <-- Great for downloading podcasts I can’t really compare it to how iTunes handles podcasts… I haven’t figured out how the iPod app handles audio playback especially in cases when you get a phone call while playing something. I will assume that the Apple apps have the power to run in the background
2. Orb Live <--- the 9.99 app was worth every penny it’s a sling box killer in I have access to my entire music collection my cable tv and recorded programs it works great and the video play back is great on the iPhone's screen
3. RDP lite <--- Simple RDP client it works well I am not limited to 640x480 as on the tilt it works more like the WM version of the Citrix Client
4. Stanza<--- I like ebooks I can read ebooks with this I actually prefer MS reader on the WM platform I have a trusty old Axim X5 with PPC 2002 on which I do a lot of reading at night. I can’t imagine buying a kindle and not being able to read in the dark on a side note the X5 has great rubber grips on the side and the buttons are in just the right place for page turns. you can probably pick one of these up for 10 bucks on eBay and have a great ebook reader for your night stand. While legitimate books are harder to find for MS reader most publishers produce versions of their books in the .lit format they are usually more expensive than kindle books but you'd have to buy a lot of books to make up for the price of the kindle.
I’ve spent hours on these forums tweaking and tinkering with my Tilt It was fun, I learned a lot but now I am done. Anybody else make the switch? I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on what you used on WM that you don’t have on the iPhone or what you have on the iPhone that you didn’t have on WM.

I might make the same move someday. I'm really on the fence as to whether I want to give WM another chance and get the Touch Pro 2, or just bail for the iPhone's snappy OS (background apps and openness be damned).
I can't stand how bad the Tilt is (and, I assume WM6 in general) at moving between WiFi and cellular data. I have to forcefully close Outlook since it always wants to stick to whichever method it first used. Does it do that for everyone, or just because I'm using IMAP?
It's going to be a tough choice this fall between the Touch Pro 2 and, presumably, an updated iPhone. I think I'm just very soured on WM. The resolution of the Pro2 and the keyboard have huge appeal to me. If Apple ups the resolution, I think I'll be sold on them, since their touchscreen is a lot more accurate for typing the I had even though possible.

I'm getting ready to ditch the Tilt as well. Too slow, hesitant, and mostly Windows related problems. Had to do a hard-reset which didn't work as the keys were frozen. Ended up flashing another ROM once I got past the Serial port in the Red-Green-White windows and it said USB.
I cannot believe even Microsoft has no news group on their Windows Mobile software. Probably would scare other manufacturers off if they did. Even the buggy ActiveSync as well.
I had a couple of Nokias with Symbian OS and they ran fine. Never hesitated at all or froze requiring a reset. And their volume was LOUD compared to the HTC.
The Tilt is a gadget boy's toy, but it really is buggy.
Maybe the Nokia N96 next. They offered on their website a trade-in of $84 for the old Tilt.

The network issues were the nail in the coffin for me. the speed problems and quick battery drain were a close second. So far every time I open up Safari my web pages load no pop ups telling me how its now trying to "dial" the network the seamless transition between wifi and GPRS lets me use the device and not think about which network I'm on. With the Tilt if I left the wifi on battery was dead by noon and I always had to manually put my Tilt to sleep because there was always some app that would keep it awake with the back light burning draining my battery.

This is great, 3 people with a total of 46 posts coming on the Kaiser forum to tell us how much they hate the Kaiser and love the iPhone,I personally could care less what you think and don't want to hear it.

OK everyone, I have had both the tilt and Iphone. I have had my tilt since the begining and I have had a blast tweaking it into my personal reflection of my persona. i had an opportunity to get an Iphone through my work and i almost broke it with frustration. not only that it ask for $40 to connect and have internest access but I can't find my files anywhere where it is stored. I am a heavy Excel user and I had trouble with opening spreadsheets on outlook atachments. It took me a long time just to text a simple sentence since i have fat fingers. My tilt on the otherhand, I use both of my thumbs for texting and composing emails through outlook and it just boggles me that the iphone can be used by busy professionals. I still enjoy my tilt everyday. My favorite application is SLingbox, Avantgo, Tomtom, and about 50 games stored in my Micro 16g card. I have 18 of my favorite DVD movies stored and if you hook it up in your car through the headphone jack, you can watch and entertain your children on long trips. I love the tilt until some other HTC device replaces it.

You'll likely be back
I left my tilt...wanted something more finger-friendly, with a more touch-responsive (I.E. capacitive) screen. I opted for the Tmobile G1 using Android. The phone is gorgeous, the widescreen fabulous, trackball surprisingly useful, and the OS beautiful. I was blown away....and then reality set in.
The G1 is nearly useless without an internet connection, and I don't use a data plan, just wifi. The Android OS is indeed lovely, but there are only a handful of really useful programs. The tie-in with Google is worse than anything Microsoft ever crammed down your throat. 75% of video formats just don't work. I guess the bottom line is: crude. The applications are crude, the OS lacks so much as a file manager (tho 3rd party ones are available), and if you want to do anything vaguely resembling work, you are in the WRONG place.
Like a beautiful woman who's too dumb to use a toilet.
The G1 is up on ebay, and a new Tilt will be mailed to me tomorrow.

Hello Tilt
I wanted to get a iPhone and found some fundamental flaws. For a start, do you know that you can't do something as simple as "Cut & Paste"?
No removable battery. Try go on a trip for >5 hours and you know what you miss.

Hehehehe, any of you TyTN II/Tilt haters can send me your phones. I will gladly ship you a self addressed stamped BOX to dump your miserable horrible phone into, I will give it a proper pyrotechnic destruction (just trust me on that).

I understand the fustration, my TyTNII have a love hate relationship, when it is running well I love it, even though the Touch Pro is out I won't upgrade. When it is slow and unresponsive I've looked at other phones and nothing does what this phone can do for the price.
I know people with Iphones and some are happy others are fustrated so YMMV.

I suggest jailbreaking and get an app from cydia called backgrounder it allows apps to run in the background which I think will be a solution to you IM apps!!

Amen. I'm willing to hear negative opinions from someone who made an effort to use their phone. Not from someone who never tried to do anything with it
I'm as picky as they come, and I'm happy with my tilt. It takes some effort, but the roms that are out there now are ready to go after a flash. I'm waiting for a MUCH better phone before I leap. And honestly, my tilt will go to another family member.
PS: Once that guy gets his Iphone, we should totally try to MMS him..... ;-)

.. I didn't foresee having to spend so much time tweaking and fixing it. What's more, the jog wheel stopped functioning in 9 months (and I am a REAL careful user, didn't drop it even once), the screen stopped responding 3 months later, and oh, Activesync has been ruining my contacts and schedules databases regularly to the point I simply stopped sync'ing, which is a pity.
I want a smart phone for productivity. That's the bottom line. While I enjoy tinkering around with it, being a software engineer myself, I'd rather not have to spend quite so much time on dealing with phone or WM's issues.
My lowly Nokia 7110 allowed me to be far more productive.

I hate to tell you this, but the problems you describe above are due to user error... and probably it is the fact you are a software engineer in a world OTHER THAN Windows Mobile.
However, your comments about the phone being for productivitiy... you're right on! I don't care how perfect something is, if it doesn't work for _ME_, I'm not going to keep working it!

I enjoy tinkering with software as much as anyone else. But not on something as vital for business as a smart phone. And the problems I've described are not due to user error, but to a poorly designed and counter-intuitive Windows Mobile OS.
And clearly, WM-based phones, HTC or otherwise, have a lot of issues that serious users and seekers of productivity should be concerned about.
Try using Active Sync on WM 6.0 sensibly, for one. If you're not careful, your entire database of contacts and calendars can be wiped out by this treacherous piece of junk that goes under the name of software.
For those of you who spend an inordinate amount of time installing the latest ROM and checking out the latest "freeware", think about it: Is it worth spending so much time on a phone that could have been used productively elsewhere?

HEhehehe, maybe the 'productivity' is entertainment in making something work? I for one, spent 60 minutes downloading (meaning, I spent 10 seconds clicking 'Download' and picking where to put it, then 59 minutes doing other things till it popped up saying it was done), then about 5 minutes flashing. Then, about 10 minutes putting my SIM back in, re-entering data connection stuff, and re-syncing my contacts. that was it, and I was up and running with a "for me" bug free PDA v17 ROM...
Inordinate is a rather subjective term... inordinate for my grandfather is picking the phone up in the first place... inordinate for me is spending more than one night of sleep setting it up... HEhehehe
Bottom line, to each his own... and for you, you don't like WinMo...
So, what DO you like? What other OS is giving you ANY business productivity other than making phone calls, sending text messages, and composing e-mail? Any mobile phone will do those things, what are you saying you are missing for productivity in the WM world that you get from any other? (honest question, I simply don't know and refuse to say you can't, unless you can prove to me you can't)
So, I'll gladly send you a SASE to send me your 'dead' Tilt... let me know!

Every time I think I want to switch phones, I go look at all the options from AT&T and Verizon on phonescoop and the bottom line is this:
Touch screen - check
MiniUSB connection instead of some shoddy input that ends up breaking after a month - check
Windows Mobile so I can configure it exactly how I want - check
Qwerty keyboard that isn't just on screen - check
I have yet to find another phone that meets all these and is anywhere near better than the Kaiser/Tilt. My sister has the iPhone and it's crap IMO. My best friend has the Voyager and it's worse than that! Another has the ENV2 which is actually nice if you don't care to ever do any configuring of software because there's no WM and the Verizon interface is so limited.
So there. Have fun with all your subpar phones. I'll stay with mine.

I need help PLEASE. TILT FREAKING OUT!

I recently erased and reinstalled the rom (it just wasn't running as clean as I wanted to)which is the basic rom that came from ATT. Anyways. i'm having troubles as:
1) I get no response sometimes with the touch screen. Whether I touch hard or soft.After 3 seconds or so of constant tapping it comes to life but happens too frequently. I get so pissed I want to slam it the floor.
2)Another problem i'm having is I can't install many programs. I'm getting tons of errors. I can't install Kaiser tweak or advanced config. I can't install games.
3) when I'm in a wifi area (coffeeshop/restaurant) I go to activate the wifi card (wireless manager) and it gives me the 4 colored icon moving showing it's working for 4-5 seconds and it's still off. I can't activate the damn wifi card..
4)videos I converted with spb mobile dvd appear to play slow and have speech delays/synching, which they never did.
5) A wierd thing happened when I used "file explorer ex" to go to the storage card directory, all of a sudden I had tons of wierd files all having 3 characters only with numbers/letters with a windows icon and I couldn't erase it because it said it was a system file. something like 10-15 of them. I restarted the system and it went back to being normal.
DAMN TYTNII/TILT/8925! i'm fed up with slowness and problems with the phone. I'm considering the Touch pro2 but from what I see it has the same crap processor and so I'm wondering if they didn't include the video driver for that one (or any other model HTC has, and so I'm consider something besides HTC, maybe the xperia) as well. I want to be able to play full movies, skyfire, and a good keyboard not like the tilt. I want the UI to be very fast and smooth not like the tilt.And when I press the red button to hang up a call, I don't want to wait 2-3 seconds either. BTW, when is WM7 coming out cause this 6.1 aint doing it for me.

That sounds bad.... When you say you reinstalled the ROM do you mean that you reflashed it or that you did a hard reset?
Have you tried a hard reset? (again)
Settings-> system -> clear storage
You could also try the official WM6.1 ROM that can be found on the HTC web site.

but if you want help to see if you can improve on some or all of your complaints, we will need more information, particularly:
A. was it fine before? when did each of the problems start? please go back to your original post and describe which problems existed from the beginning and which ones popped up later
B. describe your configuration. which version of windows mobile are you using? 6.0? 6.1? 6.5? is it an official ROM or a "cooked" one? whats your SPL version? which radio ROM are you using?
C. which software are you using for video playback? granted, the kaiser lacks proper video drivers (as do most of HTC's newer models), it can still be tweaked quite nicely to give very acceptable video playback...i play divx/xvid videos at FULL framerate with no lag on my set up, after appropriate tweaks of course
D. maybe the wifi networks you are trying to connect to are SECURE and/or MAC filtered...have you tried connecting to a network that you are certain is open-for-all?
E. have you tried a hard reset as suggested in the first response in this thread?
F. most of the problems you are mentioning sound like SOFTWARE and/or OS issues...hardware is quite a distant possibility to blame so considering moving to a new device based on your reported observations is uninformed. windows phones are windows phones and they are designed to be flexible and masters-of-everything and therefore require the user to be well informed and aware of what he/she is doing. if you can't keep up and don't desire and/or can't harness the uber-power that the kaiser delivers, move on to the iFart and be done with it
my advice is to provide answers to the above and/or perform a hard reset and/or change your ROM. OR, you COULD just have a lemon on your hands in which case a change of hardware is your only option. but you will only know for sure it is a lemon if you go through the motions mentioned here...

a)I've had the phone since Sept08. After unlocking it using an ebay service I used it as it was. a few weeks after that I did my first hard reset ( I forgot the terminology before) and then a week later found out about the 3 second reset to remove bloatware, so did that. About every 2-3 months it seems to have little problems (not run smoothly, memory full)and I do a hard reset. The last one I did was 2-3 weeks ago. I missed the 3 second opportunity and did a HR again, then did it. On my Mi-SD card I have most of the software I need to get it going. All TCPMP extensions to play flash, windows DLL's , kaiser tweak, memmaid, aflashlight app, skyfire, opera, minimo, fonts, ringtone, HTChome6, a dialer to replace the junk one included,and other stuff, you get the idea. The screen was fine before. never had the tapping problem i'm having now.

TCPMP with all the drivers/DLL's. Btw, for the heck of it, all video's of WMV I converted using SPB dvd mobile I played in windows mobile, and it plays it much smoother than the TCPMP.

YOU"RE 100% right!(Iphone..OH,GOD NO!!)I lack some knowledge as to how to work it properly, you're right about that. I don't want a phone that I buy to have to flash it it, and to do this and that, and blah blah blah. I want something that will work right out of the box. Will be quick, not lack drivers(which btw, HTC back stabbed everyone, and for this reason I'm not sure i'll go with HTC again) and be able to do it all. I'm willing to put down $1k for this phone, even $1400, but fo some reason or another no one can make one. Why I don't know. Why can't 1 smart manufacturer, look at all the flaws of the top phones and produce a perfect phone. People would jump all over it. I also feel like giving up with the TILT, only because it doesn't satisfy my needs. i'm not to happy with the TILT. At first I was extremly excited, but now, I want to slam it to the floor. The software lacks many things, and it can only do so much. The market and tech is there for many years, can't they make a perfect pda phone, and why the hell is taking M$ so long to make an OS that has it all? If they can make a great OS like Windows 7, why can't they implament that tech to PPC's? LAZY IMO!
I'm looking at all the phones on GSM arena, and none of them has it all, none. Considered the xperia, but crappy rez and small screen. The new Idou, only good because of the 12MP camera, but nothing else, and don't want symbian OS..fed up with Nokia..nothing normal out there. All HTC's. all the same..can't find something normal..

jumpspl is needed ONLY AND ONLY to CHANGE your HardSPL...it is also needed to put on the HardSPL in the first place. it may not be a very intuitive read and certainly requires some effort on the reader's part but if you read it all carefully, your concepts will become rock solid and all further steps and conclusions will flow logically...the pieces will fall into place.

its a good idea to keep all installables on your micro sd card. BUT, you should install ONLY the stuff you TRULY need. also remember to clear up browser caches and temporary files that are dropped on the device internal memory from time to time. skyfire, opera, minimo...thats THREE browsers in addition to the builtin IE...i just stick to the latest official beta of opera 9.7 in addition to the latest IE built in to my winmo6.5 ROM. my point is, windows mobile (pre 6.x, 6.0, 6.1, and 6.5) is somewhat delicate and sensitive in terms of the specific versions of applications you install. i've had my kaiser (my FIRST winmo device) for just over a year...i still use pretty much the same applications as i did the first couple of months, i've abandoned some in favor of better ones, and nearly all of them are newer versions that i am certain are compatible with the winmo build(s) i am using at any given time. your stock ROM is quite an OLD build and quite a few corrections and improvements have been made to the OS, so much so that the build number is now in the 21xxx range (compared to your 6.0 build of 18125) and still going further (a bunch of new bugs and issues are inevitable as the OS moves forward). my point is, perhaps you have accumulated some newer installables that don't quite play well with your old OS build 18125.

thats odd...once again, kaisertweak and advanced config have both progressed to newer versions...if you have an old installable, try a new installable. if you are already trying the new installable, try the old one from the era that your build belongs to.

i'm not saying you should try att's newer official winmo6.1 ROM but some people have reported great improvements, but your milage may vary. i, on the other hand, SWEAR by "cooked" ROMs and there are some particular cooked ROMs that will impress the $H1T out of you

i never used TCPMP and i quickly moved on to coreplayer, even when i was on winmo6.0. so far, the BEST video performance i have gotten was with the following configuration:
1. Sakajati's HyperDragon IV Rhodium ROM (April 10th, 2009)
2. chainfire's gfxboost v1.1
3. coreplayer 1.3.2 build 6909
4. coreplayer configured to DISABLE QTV mode, and video mode set to DirectDraw @ medium quality
on a side note, the ROM mentioned in item 1 above is STELLAR if you're looking for a good cooked winmo6.1 ROM.

make sure your wifi is set for "Best Performance" as opposed to the default "Best Battery". you might want to look into changing your radio ROM as well, making sure to match the radio version with your winmo MAJOR version. that is, some radios are made ONLY for winmo6.0, others ONLY for winmo6.1 and winmo6.5. same concept applies to the particular HardSPL version you use. finally, quite a few senior members and cooks here claim that wifi is the ONLY radio that is NOT AFFECTED by your radio version but my experience has been different.
also, you need to understand how windows mobile "picks" an available connection and uses it. if your data connection is set up and enabled, it will almost always be picked and forced to connect, even if your wifi is already connected. you'll have to read up some more about the concept but here is what i do. i have my data connection DISABLED all the time. i force windows mobile to always pick "My Work Network" (which is usually the wifi). note that windows will NEVER force the wifi to connect and won't be able to connect the data connection because i have disabled it. this way, i have TOTAL control over how it "dials out". so when i am in a wifi area, i connect my wifi manually and when i am not in a wifi area, i enable my data connection and i let windows dial out onto Edge/GPRS, etc.

errr i think the zoom level is controllable in the camera ONLY in non-3-megapixel mode. that is, if your camera's picture taking mode is set to 3MP, you will NOT get any zoom control. set it to anything lower and you should get zoom control. you must have inadvertantly set the resolution to below 3MP and 3 months ago, either you or the hard reset must have caused it to revert to 3MP, hence your inability to zoom in picture mode.

i said it before and i'll say it again and i don't mean to sound harsh but windows mobile is powerful...and with great power comes great responsibility...the user HAS TO BE AWARE of what he/she is doing and what is going on in the device to be able to tweak it and customize it and to get it to do EXACTLY what is desired.

Hi all,
completely new to the ofrum although i've visited a few threads in the past.
I'm now in need of help so am appealing to the knowledgeable demi-gods on here for help.
I've had a TD since July 2008 (launch day in UK) on vodafone UK.
After having some issues with it being slow/sluggish etc, I did a rom update to 1.93.161.2 WWE (Aug 08).
Now, the vodafone sat nav hasn't worked properly since about May this year (don't use it very often), its always stuck at "acquiring satellites". So after speaking to VF they advise me to flash the newer rom 1.96 (iirc).
But, i've spoken to a few people who recommend going an alternative route, i.e. back to HTC 2.03 rom?
Basically what i want from my TD apart from the usual phone/sms funtions is:
pop3 mail setup (like i have now)
exchange sync'ing (like i have now)
sat nav (like i have now)
Before wiping i need to take my contacts off the phone, copying to the sim isn't an option as there are too many and it trunkates the names.
I've been advised about THIS for taking contacts off (activesync doesn't seem to want to do it).
I've also been told that using HTC rom will render my vodafone satnav (which is free with my tarrif) useless, but that igo8 and tomtom are better. But are they free?
I'd really appreciate a gentle approach to doing this please. I've done a search but there's so many topics on roms etc that i felt it needed a new thread.
I'm actually an I.T. manage by day, so i'm not new to technology.....just flashing mobiles i guess.

Before you do anything i suggest you try the htc gps tool, you can use it to erase old gps data maybe you will get a fix then, also try quick gps if you dont have it, it uses gprs/3g to download that latest sat data so its easyer to get a sat lock quicker

Thanks for the reply mancsoulja. My TD does have quickgps installed, but it makes no difference to helping get the satnav working sadly.

Actually, what i forgot to mention in my op is that if i get a sms during the day; i click on it, read it, then try and hit 'men > reply' it can take well over a minute to actually respond. The same happens when i want to make a call. I use the TouchFlow to browse to my favourite contacts, but trying to scroll down the list of only 10 contacts it simply does nothing. Then about a minute or so later it catches up with itself and goes all over the place trying to catch up with every key press since.
This was the original reason i had for upgrading the rom.
Its as if waking it up after doing nothing for ages makes it all sluggish (bit like a pc when waking from hibernate i guess) Its very laggy.

Ok, the htc gps tool? Lol i have nooooo idea what i'm supposed to do with that.
Google maps works fine, in that it knows my location and i can plan a route using it, so GPS is working. Its just that vf satnav won't work.
Any ideas on this please?

Flashing my TP2 to remove Telstraisation

Hey guys this is just quick.
I can't find any other way to remove everything Telstra on my TP2 other than "flashing" the "ROM". Having no idea what that means could anyone please link me to where I could find how to do this and how to "back up" my phone if it stuffs up.

To de-telstraise or basically to make your phone not suck follow the energy roms thread for flashing your rom and read the flashing for noobs thread to see how its done.
As for backing up its not as easy as it sounds, I havent found an easy way so save your contacts to your sim or better still sync it with outlook on your PC. You WILL loose your SMS messages, emails can be saved using outlook to sync.
You WILL need to Hard SPL see the thread in this forum for how to do that - DO use your original USB cable, you WILL need to run the enableapinew.cab fiel on your handset, send it via the sync cable and launch it on your handset first.
In order, back up your ****, transfer enablerapinew.cab to handset run it, sync your handset and run the hardSPL tool then flash with what ever rom your decide to use, energy roms seem to work best with our telstra model.
Once its falshed you need to go to the phone settings and tell it to setup for telstra it will then handle the GSM settings and Data settings to get you back online. hit the icon that look slike a red antenae at top choose the menu at the very bottom and then phone setting from the popup menu, choose telstra.
Doing this removes allt he Telstra BS from your phone, no more going to telstra landing page for web, no more going to sensis for search, the phone runs WAY faster, like noticeable, when using bluetooth headsets the handset responds faster at the end of the call too - like you can hang up and answer the next call the handset doenst sit idle for 30 seconds with it ending on the sense screen with the clock rolling over extremely slowly, it just works.
So this and you will wonder why the phone doesnt ship this way to start with.

Yeah the speed increase was amazing. Still a few lagg spikes every so often but nothing I can't live with.

Just so you guys know, Microsoft MyPhone comes with the stock ROMs and backs up all of your stuff. It doesn't back up mail, but it covers contacts, SMS, pictures, documents, music, calender, video, tasks, and browser favorites. It will also sync your SD card contents if you want. The only thing you really loose is your settings information and whatever applications you have installed to the internal memory. All the apps on the SD card remain in tact, however.
