Hi guys - I have a strange problem where files I have downloaded from PIE seems to be on the device (or SD card) but I cannot find them with File Explorer / Resco File explorer.
I have used Kaisertweak to set my download location as storage card\My documents\images (for images obviously - videos for video files etc).
When I download an image the picture is opened by straight after, so I know it is there - however in the property box it is listed as being in My Documents\\storage card\My documents\images. However I cannot find this directory, even by using the find file dialogue!
Has anybody else experienced this / found a solution?
I am especially concerned about there being a hidden directory in the device taking up valuable storage space - I believe I downloaded a 20MB video file at one point!
Cheers!
I think I ran into the same thing, and it was just a user misunderstanding of poor terminology. When the popup comes up saying "Would you like to save ... file to the Device" there are options for "Yes" and "Save As". If you choose yes, it doesn't seem to actually save it to the device (as you would expect, since it just asked if you want to save it) but I think that is intended to only temporarily save things like .cab files that are supposed to run and install something, kind of like the RUN option when opening a file on a regular PC. If you want to save it, I think the only way is to hit the "Save As" option and you can then choose the location.
EDIT: I didn't read your whole post before answering...as far as the Kaisertweak options for photos, video, etc., the same thing applies. Basically, the storage location defined in KaiserTweak doesn't seem to make any difference, as you still have to use the "Save As" option to get it to actually save.
Thanks snooginsguy - hopefully that means I don't have any large hidden video files clogging up my device memory!
I am surprised nobody has mentioned that the storage location defined in KaiserTweak doesn't seem to make any difference on the (long!) Kaisertweaks thread though - I would have assumed the default location is where files get saved if you don't specify a location (as they would on XP).

Wondered if anyone else has this problem?
Most of my documents (.docx, .doc, .xls) are stored on the SD card for obvious reasons. If I access them through a file explorer, they open fine. However, if I open the Office program directly, they don't show up - only the one stored on the device do. (Although, the text files from SPB Backup stored on the card show up through Office!)
Thing is, I'm sure when I first got the phone, docs stored on SD card showed up when you opened Word or Excel (with a little mem card symbol in the corner of the Office file icon). Any ideas what I might have done to change things.
Am running stock Orange ROM, with too many added cabs and programs to remember, never mind list here!
I have looked through the forum, but I have to admit my attention started to drift by page 205, so forgive me if it already addressed.
On a side note, if you read the entire post list from page 1 to current, it is amazing how many repetitive posts there truly are. If people just updated the previous post re a particular question, rather than reposting, the forum would be 1/3 the pages! Although from experience, the forum search rarely brings up the right entries - I almost always have better luck just scrolling through the pages. Perhaps an index of all post headings and thread addresses would help people to find what they want. Perhaps if I have some free time... Do people think this would be useful?
Anyway, I digress. Any help with the above would be much appreciated (the much dreaded hard reset is hovering at the back of my mind, but I would much prefer a less drastic solution!)
Are they in the storage card root? (\Storage Card)
Also, have you gone into P.Word, Options, & selected the storage card for where to store doc's?
Try this: \Storage Card\My Documents. Also, you must have the templates in the original \My Documents\Templates folder or it will not open word docs.

Really, the wiki is supposed to be the central bank for known issues & the fixes. Kaiser is just too new & no one has really taken charge of the wiki because everyones still try to get everything ironed out & customized.
They are in Storage Card\My Documents\sub-folder
I have already changed the default storage location.
Strangely, Word lists all .txt documents on storage card, regardless of which folder\subfolder they are in - some are not even in My Docs.
But all will open normally if opened via File Explorer.
Further to the above, Word will list the files if they are stored in Storage Card\My Documents but not if they are in subfolders of My Documents. Seems odd, seeing as .txt files show up wherever they are located.
Anyone know of any fix to this, other than dumping all doc files in My Docs, with no sort of filing - seems a bit messy (but not surprising for Microsoft software I guess).
Just discovered that even if I navigate to either my Work or Personal folder via Word, it still does not show the .doc or .xls files there! Apparently my files do not exist, even though I can open them normally via Explorer. What's going on ?!
If you mean that your files dont show after opening word, thats just because Mobile Office programs dont show deeper than the first folder.
There is programs that make them see more deep in the folders and fix this issue, like Pocket Plus 4.
There was some freeware solution to this also, search and you will find...
Thanks Sane for the advice. That certainly explains a lot. I have Pocket Plus 4 installed - I have checked the "File Open/Save Dialog" option when I installed but unchecking and checking it again hasn't made any difference. As mentioned in the OP, I have scrolled through all 220-odd pages and couldn't see any previos posts regarding Office documents. Any idea of the rough direction I should head for more answers??
I recently upgraded my Acrobat Reader without uninstalling the former version. Everything worked fine. Then I uninstalled the old version and it seems to have taken the file association for PDFs along with it. While looking for a solution, I found a lot of complicated schemes to modify the registry (no thanks), install a tweak program and do it from there (better, but why complicate things), etc. But it was actually quite simple. So for anyone who's in a similar predicament...
Here's how to set a file association in WM 6.1:
1. Open File Explorer and find a file of the type you want to associate to an app.
2. Hold down the stylus on the file name for a couple seconds (til you get the context menu) and choose "Open with program..."
3. Choose a program from the list on the top part of the resulting window, then check the box labeled "Associate selected Program with this file type."
4. Hit Open.
5. You may get a message to overwrite current association if there was a previous app associated with the file type, chances are you'll want to go ahead and overwrite so it will remember the association you prefer.
You're done!
This works great if you want to open some multimedia files with one program and others with a different program. For instance, I couldn't get Media Player to open my .AVI files, but it was the default association, now I set .AVIs to TCPMP and all is working great! ( I know TCPMP is one of the few programs that lets you set the association, this is just an example - and it was actually easier doing it as described above!)
That menu option's not there
I've got 6.1, but "open with program" is not a choice that pops up. I looked under properties, and it's not there either. Are you using a 3rd party file explorer?
You need File Explorer Extension, here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=421723&highlight=file+explorer
Nice!
Thanks for the tip!
I have a several different media players, and this is just what I needed to choose which program opens what file type.
Thanks again!
Thanks guys, really good software that complement very well the unfinished software of Microsoft..
Great for removing the "DocsToGo" association!
I was really getting sick of being unable to open email attachments because I didn't choose to shell out for the DocsToGo bloatware on my AT&T Fuze. Great fix!
Thanks!!!!
MadSci
Thanks for the software but there is a problem
The file explorer is amazing. But I am facing a problem. I have an HTC Touch 3G running windows mobile 6.1. When I use this file explorer to change the file association, it successfully changes. However, the icon of the program it is associated with doesn't appear on the left of the file name. Only the windows icon appears to the left of the file name. However whenever I click on the file, it does open with the required software/player. But because the icon of the file type it is associated with does not display, it becomes slightly confusing for me to make out with which software will it open.
Thanking you in anticipation for the help!!
thanks a lot
FExplorer ext is a gr8 tool. It solved my file association problem for .jpg files.
Thank a lot again.
I tried to install FEE on my WM6.1 smartphone (non touchscreen) but it gives an error and won't install saying it's not designed for my device.
Has anyone found a way to install it, or found a similar free product to change file extensions?

Schap's Advanced Config can also change file associations, as can Total Commander.

Thanks, I'll have a look at those.
There's any way to Vito SMS chat instead default WM app for SMS managemment ?
Thank you
very very thnx to you
still not the correct icons ?
same as @sahilhshah.
Changing the file associations in either described way is working fine. But the icons are still the windows system icons.
Interestingly viewing the icons from the files which are not corrected to the specific program icon, in the taskmanager, I can see the right icons.
Any ideas?
Using Total Commander for Pocket PC u can change file association and file icon as well, it will be coresponding to specified program. Just give it a try
(That's my firsth post on this great forum )
Hi people.
Could you help me? I tried to change the file association, as explained, but my phone isn't touch screen (is a Samsung Jack) and the File Explorer Extension doesn't work.
Someone know a way for change the file association on Win 6.1?
I lost the association when try Foxit pdf reader. Now I have to open the Adobe PDF fist and open the file by the program (I already uninstall the Foxit).
Thanks in advanced.

Hello, I have got a question. When I receive photos via BT I can, without any problems find them in file explorer. But how can I move them in such a way, to be able to see them in photo gallery in Touchflow?
Regards, fck.
move to Internal Storage/My Documents/My Pictures
Obvious really isn't it?!?!
Obvious as hell. The point is, in my case it's not working.
Regards, fck.
May I ask which ROM do you use? as this can be ROM dependent
May I suggest a couple of programs that may help
1) HTC4_Inbox A program that saves BT transferred files to storage card Start -> Settings -> Connections -> OBEX Inbox to choose where u want to recieve files.
2) Advance Config 3.3 a useful tool that allows you to specify the mapping of folders like;
My Documents
My Videos
Etc
I am using the Aztor x2 Ultimate. I am familiar to Advanced config application, I am using it for battery saving features. The problem is, why no photos are beeing displayed in the photo album although they are in correct location.
Hi,
All i'm doing is copying images to my \\internal storage\my documents\my pictures and they always appear right away in Tf3d.
What is the path you have for your images?
Hello all,
It was suggested to me to post this question here.
I am looking for a way to basically poing any and all possible to the storage card. I think I remember a couple years back finding one for my Hermes here at XDA-Developers.com but now I can't seem to locate it??
I would like it if someone knows how to or an app to do this if they could let me know. I think I remember the other one being a .cab that directed everything to the card.
Does this make sense to anyone?
PS: I know on the camera app you can select the device or the card.
Make it little clear
do you want to receive files(say songs etc) through bluetooth and get them stored in memory card and want to place inbox in memory card ?
chand
the moon
Well what I was thinking was I would like any and all files to be stored on the card.
For instance, when active-sync creates a short cut on the desktop (pc) for files to be sync'd there is a list of folders... If I click "Explore" in AS it opens to files on my device. Now if I follow it correctly, all the files in the (pc) desktop shortcut leads to the folders in the "My Docs" on the device.
The last sentenance is what I would like to change, I would like for any and all files besides apps or system files to be stored on the card.
Meaning, no "My docs" on the device memory, just the card.
Is there a way in the registry or something else to change the path for said folders to be redirected to the memory card?
I don't think there is an app that will do this
SKTools has a "move file" option that says it will move the file and update information in the registry, but its not clear if this applies to folders
Now, you could try using a registry editor with find-replace to find all instances of "/My Documents" and change it to something like "/Storage Card/My Documents", then soft reset and see if that works -- I can't seem to find a registry editor that does find and replace like this -- anyone?
Advanced Config Tool (attached) will allow you to specify default locations for directories.
I have had this problem several times and although I am sure that most of you know the solution, there might be people who will find this useful. I post it here and not in the general or other sections, because many Xperia owners have asked this.
I do not know what is the reason, but every so often my media files (music, videos, etc.) get either associated with the wrong program, or with no program at all, (picture 1) in this case mp3 files.
When you click on a such a file, you usually get the message "file type not supported", or "cannot be recognized". The other side effect that I have noticed is that when you open a folder containing such files, they tend to be shown literally one by one in a very slow and frustrating process.
There a couple of ways to alter file association in WinMo, but the only one that has worked for me has been "SKTools"
http://s-k-tools.com/index.html?sktools/m_feat.html
I have tried some reg tweaks, that didn't work and using Resco File Explorer's "open with" function, but it didn't work either.
Here is what you have to do. Open SKTools and go to the "System Tweaks" category (picture 2). Click on "File Types" and wait 20 seconds for it to load the file types list (picture 3).
You can see that mp3 files are associated with the program "Kinoma Play". Sometimes the association is blank. Either way, you have to click on 'action" and press "edit".
This will open the edit menu (picture 4). Change the association of the file to the desired program, in this case "Pocket Music" (picture 5). Press "ok" and check the new association (picture 6).
You can go back to the folder where your files are stored and behold the new icons (picture 7). Clicking the file will open it with no annoying "file type unsupported" messages.
The same procedure is used for other types of media files: mov, 3gp, mp4, jpg, gif, bmp, etc.
I hoe this was helpful to someone out there.
Cheers .
