Very Poor Signal - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hello, and pardon if this is in the incorrect forum for this question.
I just got my Kaiser yesterday, and all the features and things are really nice. However, I can't seem to get a signal on it. My old Nokia 3595 gets a completely full signal sitting side by side with the Kaiser on the same network (both are AT&T). The Kaiser only gets 2 bars. When I try and dial out, the phone says "dialing" for about 5 seconds and then hangs up. After about 3-10 tries it will actually start ringing. When someone answers, I can hear them perfectly, but they either won't be able to hear me at all or won't be able to hear everything I'm saying. I called AT&T and they told me to RMA the phone. I am hoping there is a simpler fix, since I can hear incoming just fine; seems to me that isn't a signal problem then.
Any suggestions? Or should I do like they said and just RMA the phone? Anyone else had similar signal problems with the Kaiser?
Edit - Fixed, thanks to Bandswitch! Sweet little utility that allowed me to tell my somewhat belligerent Kaiser not to use 3G because the coverage here sucks.

Utility
Hi, may I know where to get the utility? I'm also hving the poor signal problem. Thanks

Can you please elaborate on the utility.........me too having the same problem!!!!!
Thanks.............

Calls drop

Guys,
When I got my P3600 some weeks ago I didn't experience any problems with problems with calls dropping. But ever since I've upgraded to WM6 I am experiencing this problem... the calls drop at random, sometimes I can talk for hours without any disconnect, and sometimes the call drops and I cannot even call the person back... And even after downgrading to the shipped rom, I still have this problem... That made me wonder if maybe I have had problem when I got the device but at that point I was just lucky not to have calls dropping.
Yesterday was the last time a call dropped on me. I couldn't call the person back, the phone didn't establish a new connection. When I finally got the person back on the phone (2 minutes later) he/she said that the whole time she thought I was driving through a tunnel and that I would reconnect because... I stayed connected at the other phone... After 2 minutes, she said, the connection was finally broken and that's when I was able to call again.
So sounds to me that windows mobile disconnects me and that the operators network still keeps my number connected.
Well, needless to say, I want to fix this issue. I have a 3G Vodafone NL subscription but I read that 3G could be the cause of my issue. so I've just disabled 3G. Now I'm just running on GPRS... Which isn't how I want it to stay. Any ideas, same experience/ pointers how to solve this?
Thnx. Arend
Reply from HTC
This is the reply I got from HTC:
Try to remove it off 3G go to settings / phone / band - then select GSM from the top drop down menu.
Should now reset.
If it comes up with an error, turn on flight mode then do the above again.

So based on this reply it seems that 3G might be causing my issue.
I replied to HTC:
I have followed your instructions but now I can only use gprs... but I have a 3G subscription with my provider. So even if this workaround works, it's not to my satisfaction.
Pls advice.

I'll post their reply.
Further, if someone has more info on the subject please let me know.
Same problem here...
No issues before upgrading to WM6. Sometimes the call drops out after a few minutes, sometimes a few seconds, and sometimes already after a few rings. The other day I had to make a call 5 or 6 times to finish the conversation - very annoying...
I'm running the first official Australian WM6 release for Dopod/HTC, i.e. the one that got pulled off the web for a while. Possibly going to the newer release of the ROM update solves the problem? Even though I think both versions run on the same radio ROM.
I've used the same rom as you to upgrade to WM6. But in my case, even when downgrading to the shipped rom, I still had calls dropping. And like you, sometimes after minutes, seconds etc.
Still having no drops since I have turned 3G off. But I just wanted to look something up on the internet... took minutes to get the info on my screen with GRPS, so it's not much like a solution.
This is the reply of HTC:
Dear sir,
Regarding your situation with the device , I would suggest you, to? resolve your issue with the network coverage ,to practice a hard reset on your mobile with the following step:
START -> Setting->System->CLEAR STORAGE and follow the procedure, if you have already done this manipulation , I would direct you? to this service and check the right number on this area with your network ush the green button to call->then go to menu-> option ->Services->select the on the following list ->Voice mail etc-> and then get setting -> and check that the number is right with your network provider.
Click to collapse
Needless to say, but I'll say it anyway, I have performed hard resets... indeed, multiple
The second action they adviced, sounded a bit strange to me. But when I retrieved the settings I saw that there was no number filled in for voicemail. So I've entered 1233 (Vodafone NL voicemailnumber).
So maybe the last action has nothing to do with my issue, but who knows.
So now I am running again on 3G. I'll keep y'all posted.
Just checked it on my device and there is already an entry under voice mail. So I severly doubt that it has anything to do with the voice mail settings, too.
No, I guess you are right.
Further, since I am running 3G my signal I noticed my signal is weaker then running GPRS-only. My calls have not dropped since but I do get complaints that people sometimes cannot hear what I say because my line goes dead, and a moment later it's back again.
I've got another reply from HTC:
---
If a hard reset didn't solve the problem and the problem only occurs when switching to 3G, than this can be caused by the following;
1. Problem with the device.
2. Problem with the network, ???
I would suggest to test your SIM in another HTC device with 3G and see what happens. If it happens again than it is a? problem with the network. If it works with that 3G device than it could be a faulty device. The experience is that it is related to the 3G network himself. If it is a network issue, than you can ask them to deactivate the 3G/HSDPA.
We can't find this out for you in the UK, you need to see if you could determine the problem yourself.
---
Thus the support of HTC.
So now I have written an email to vodafone. I'll keep you posted.
Same problem !
Try to flash your device with ROM_Radio 1.41.00.11,

Ok... but I'm somewhat confused... are you experiencing the same problem with 1.41.00.11? Or did you solve the problem by flashing to 1.41.00.11?
2----> solve by reflashing with 1.41.00.11
Ok, I've upgraded to 1.41.00.11.
So far, I've experienced no calls dropping on me.
Nevertheless, I've also made a phonecall to Vodafone explaining the issue. They acknowlegde the issue... SAY WHAT?!! Yes... they acknowledge the issue and recommend turning the device to GRPS only. WHAT?!!.. Chill, they can at least try that, who knows, maybe I would have said yes.
So, I explained GPRS only is not an option since it is a tiny bit slower then what I am paying for.
They've put the call through to their 2nd line and keep me informed. So as soon as I hear something I will get back to you.
ps. What I found very great is that they did not cut it off with "Ow, you are using the HTC P3600... I'm sorry, we do not support that device." Vodafone NL, keep up this great level of support!
Ok, so far I've heard nothing from Vodafone. And so far I have had one call that dropped. So although that is a huge improvement, it still sucks.
So... now what? The way I see it:
1. I want to have fast internet on my PDA (3G), so only GPRS is not an option
2. There are problems with the 3G network which make calls drop every now and then
3. Vodafone isn't going to fix this in a short period of time.
So the question is: what is more import to me: 3G or a reliable phone connections?
The answer is: reliable phone connection.
So I will switch my network to GSM instead of auto and when
I really need fast internet I will switch to 3G.
Case closed... well, not really... but still, case closed.
Hi
I think is not the operator problem and could be the phone problem, I am using the D810 in Singapore with Starhub and have the same problem with drop calls once I use 3G network. If I switch to GSM only than is perfect no drop calls and calls quality improve also.
So sad having a 3.5G phone and can't use 3.5G service
Could be, but HTC and Vodafone confirmed me that it has to do with the 3G network. And I do not want to know the technical details about all that so I'll leave it at that.

Phone not working, but showing that i have a signal

My first full day using the phone. Hadnt had an issue until this evening. For some reason i can not make a call. Im in an area that only gets edge, but it shows i have three bars. When i try to make a call it never rings or says connected, it simply ended after about 7 seconds or so. I can however browse the internet or watch my slingbox on the phone so it seems my connection is good. I tried a hard reset, but issue remains. If i try to make a call it will go through maybe once out of every 20 attempts.
I saw a few similar threads, but nothing like this. Anyone have any thoughts?
apparently there is a huge outage in the NYC metro area with cingular. So, thankfully its not the phone. way to go cingular!
im having a similar problem on fido in Vancouver, tho i dont think its as bad as yours. intermittent phone use at best.
I am having the same problem as well. It just says dialing but no tone. I remove the battery and it works again. But a day later and then it starts to act up again.
I was advised to update my sim card since its 3 years old now.
I am with Fido in Montreal Quebec Canada.

problem: i hear my voice echo when talking

the caller on the other end said that it is clear on their side however on my side (tilt) i hear my own voice echo on every call. its not very bad, but not acceptable either
has anyone else had this problem and a fix?
I have the same problem. Sounds perfect with a bluetooth headset,,, but horrible with just the handset. Hopefully it can be fixed with software, because as it is now my 8125 had much better call quality.
i am having the same problem, i am on the tilt rom. what rom are you using? is it just tilts or all kaiser?
if kaiser is fine i will just put a the kaiser rom on it.
It seems as if the phone was doing that the first 3 days, and now its completely stopped doing it. It is the tilt rom, with a lot of add on programs. Im not sure if it worked it out itself, or if it is because of the programs on it though.
This used to happen quite often on my 8125 and was so loud I could not hear the other person. It now happens very rarely on my 8525 and not nearly as pronounced. My mom has also experienced it on her flip phone.
I always thought it was a network problem with AT&T.
I also get this on the handset.
Tilt, no EXT ROM cabs installed, just a few apps.
its happening on my tilt tom
I have this on my Dutch Tytn II but only when i call one particular number. Figured it was my friend's phone, but you guys make me wonder ...
Ditto. I am hearing alot of feedback. What makes it worse is that my wife also has the Kaiser, and has the same echo problems.
I just returned my original Tilt to the store.
New model has the exact same issue.
I do hear my own sound, sometimes not all the time. Is it the AT&T service or the phone
I had this when I first got my Tilt. After flashing the Kaiser ROM, it was gone.
Have a tilt, and also have this problem....
i have a tiny echo. annoying all the same.

Usually it's a network problem. I had it on and off with a variety of Verizon phones, usually when signal strength was weak.
Haven't had it yet with AT&T, but I'm sure it's a matter of time.
I just had a thought. This may be the side effect of a "feature".
On the Hermes you could not record both sides of a conversation when using the recorder in notes. If I recall (correct me if I am wrong) you could only hear your side.
However, on the Kaiser (I am rocking a Tilt) I just tested it and the recorder, sure enough, picks up both sides.
Just a thought.
Later, Lew
solutions?
I have the same issue. I just got my tilt 3 days ago, heard the echo of my own voice on calls so I took the phone back for another and the echo is still there. Has anyone found a fix/reason for this yet? This thread died down about 2 months ago... are people still having this problem?
My guess is the network problem, I have the TytnII on T-Mobile network USA. And I have the same problem once a while.... but usually is at a weak signal place.....
I have the same problem with my razr phone. Wonder if we all have AT&T for service?

Calls are disconnected

At my company we use more than 30 S730's which have the same issue.
Randomly, while people are having a conversation (mobile - mobile / mobile - landline),
the connection is being cut off resulting in the inevetible 3-tone "Your call is being disconnected" sound.
Does anyone have this issue? I'm trying to figure out if this problem is related to the combination of Vodafone and the S730,
the S730 itself, or that there's something else that's dark and dangerous and wants to take over our phones.
Regards,
Korny
I dont use Vodafone, and only have dropped one call since the phone released due to bad reception where I was. Whats the connectivity like when your dropping calls? Anything causing interference or generating a signal that could bump you off?
Do you have bluetooth on?
With a t-mobile sim I couldn't make or receive calls when 3G was active, turned it off and it worked fine. This does not happen all the time.
Does that help?
edit: I have bluetooth off, as per question above.
Flame-bait:-
I've only had a quick search so I'll keep trying, but if anyone has a link to anything to automatically make sure you use GPRS unless you ask for data, then I'd be grateful.
Also links to reg keys or anything as I am not shy of a bit of tampering.
Something similar to mortscript for kaiser...
I have the same problem with my HTC S730. I think that dropping calls is someway connected with poor signal, but not that bad to dropp call. Also a WiFi may have some impact to this, but i'm not sure of it. I'm using phone in Poland 3G mobile operator.
Same here
Hey Guys,
My s730 seems to have the same issue. At least its similar. Sometimes incoming calls are auto-denied just after one ring. The problem is gone after a cold-start.
Greets,
Sam.

I recently have again this problem and even cold restar didn't help After another restart it finally start working as it should. What was most strange in this is fact that I received sms, but I couldn't make a call!
I wrote to HTC about it, but as usual my questions were ignored.
EDIT: I had enough of this and I flashed my radio from 1.58 (shipped) to 1.64 version. I hope this help and resolve my problems.
The new radio didn't solve the whole problem with disconnecting calls, but now it happens a bit rarely And battery life also has slightly improved.

[Q] Can Anyone Reliably Make and Receive Calls?

I recently switched from an iPhone 5 to the One Dev Edition. After having some signal issues, I went to AT&T, got a microSIM, they switched me an Android data plan, etc. But I'm still having an issue where I can't reliably send and receive calls, especially from my desk at work. I can dial the number and hit Call but that's it. No ringing, nothing. Just dead air, then the "call" ends. If the call does go through, I can hear the other person but they can't hear me. Same thing when receiving a call. I'll hear them but they can't hear me. Sometimes my phone won't ring and it just rolls to voice mail. I can see the signal switching from LTE to H, etc, and I have practically full bar strength. I just don't understand why the calls aren't going through.
Is this an issue with the phone itself? Something with AT&T? Is there a newer radio firmware I can try flashing? I didn't have any issues with the iPhone 5, and I even had my coworker put his iPhone into field test mode so we could compare the numeric signal and they're about even, though the iPhone usually does have a slightly better db signal. I really like the One but not being able to send or receive calls while at my desk is a deal breaker.
Thanks!
From the sounds of it, you are running the stock firmware still? Any root or other possible modifications? If you answered Yes then no to those questions, I would head back to the AT&T store and have them try it out, if anything they should be able to take your SIM card and put it into another Android device and see what happens.
What about text/data, do those work?
You said mainly at your desk you notice this issue, so does that mean it happens at other places as well, same symptoms (full bars, allows to send call then nothing?) You may just be the lucky contestant with a defunct unit, HTC should be able to help you out.
I would suggest first going to AT&T store, try out their suggestions, then if anything give HTC a call/email to see if they can be of any help. At this point I would stay away from flashing custom radios as they may void your warranty then you will really be up $hit creek.
Sounds like att.
I had this problem with tmobile once. The signal wasn't strong enough and it wouldn't call.
Some please are spotty.
Something is wrong with your phone. That should be obvious. Of course the vast majority of people who got this phone can reliably make and receive calls or it would be the biggest mobile phone bust in history.
Sorry to be blunt but you already know it's not the signal so it has to be a defect in the phone.
Thanks for the suggestions. This is the stock Dev Edition ROM. I haven't made any changes other other than just installing apps.
I haven't made a lot of calls but I don't seem to have an issue any where else.
No issues with LTE. Data has been fine.
I wasn't sure if AT&T would assist since this is the Dev Edition but that's worth a shot to have them run some tests on it. Otherwise I'll try to get a replacement (or refund) from HTC.
Thanks!
