Unlocking Sim Card? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

What is the reason people unlock there sim card?
I keep reading people unlock it, but I don't see the reasons why. Nobody seems to do anything with it once it is unlocked.
So my question is - Why should I unlock it and What can I do once I unlock it.

My 8125 Unlocked Becuz iam with cingular right now and if i switch with a different company like t-mobile i just insert my SIM Card!
Becuz the phone its unlocked and i can use any SIM Card With it!

I SIM unlocked my 8125's because I use T-Mobile.
If you use AT&T, then there's no reason to SIM unlock your 8125 except maybe for resale value. You're more likely to find more interested buyers if your phone can work with T-Mobile or any other provider worldwide. I always SIM unlock my phones before throwing them up for sale on eBay.

Ok so unlocking the sim is not Unlocking the actuial SIM, but making it so any sim could work in it. Ok now I get it . Thank you.

the phone is SIM unlocked; you can use on any GSM carrier.

I'm almost positive that you should be able to pop in any sim card, pre- or post-paid, and it should work...
i just tested it with a nextel chip with a plan but no data service and i still get no bars??? i will try to put up some pics....please help if ya can...thanks
As far as I know Nextel doesn't use GSM networks it has it's own iDEN network, I don't know what the difference is, or if it should work with a GSM receiver but I can't say I'm surprised it doesn't work. Also from what I've heard, the phone has only received FCC certifications on T-Mob and AT&T for the phone you have, Verizon passed separately. Again, don't know if this helps, but I'm not shocked it doesn't work. Your phone is carrier unlocked, it came that way from HTC and unlocking the bootloader has nothing to do with which carriers it will work with.
no all i did was i bought it on a tmobile network through google then i had unlock the bootloader then rooted the phone now is there a way to use differ carriers??? i did not buy it unlocked......from google.....so is there a way ?

Dude... your question is moot! The phone, even if bought on a T-mobile line, IS NOT LOCKED TO ANY SPECIFIC CARRIER! You can pop in ANY GSM SIM CARD, and it will work. I bought mine on a T-mobile upgrade... but I can throw in an AT&T, Rogers, Fido, Vodaphone, etc., SIM, and it will work just fine.
o okay will try it out with att thanks...

[Q] Unlock "deactivated" phone?

Hi-
I've searched around, but haven't been able to find any info on this particular scenario.
I've just upgraded my two G1s to G2s. I'd like to sell the G1s, but want to unlock them first. Is there any way to unlock them, since they've been "deactivated"?
Both are rooted, running Cyanogen 6.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Nipper
Of course you can! Phones are not deactivated, they are just not used at this point.
Call T-mobile and ask them for unlock codes. If they give you any crap, politely tell them that you did buy the phones from T-mobile and they have to give you those codes by law. You should get them within 3-4 days. Put different sim card in the phone to unlock it, it will ask you for a that code. Any sim card other then T-mobile will do (even if the phone doesn't support it, like Nextel's sims). AFAIK, you can not do it without non-Tmobile sim though.
Good luck.
Thanks - could I just borrow a friend's SIM temporarily, just to unlock?
As long as it's not T-mobile's sim - it will work.
Thanks, I'll do that!

You should contact Verizon for an unlock code. If they won't provide you with one then you need to contact one of the sites on the Internet and purchase an unlock code for your phone.
Unlike a lot of previous HTC devices, a software solution to SIM unlock your phone no longer works on the IncS.
Thanks for the info...
I don't know how it is in the States but here in Gemany I usually got such a code with every SIM-card I bought... Maybe search dow your papers?
EDIT: OH sorry, got that wrong... Thought your SIM is locked not your phone SIM-locked Confuusing

[Q] HTC One not asking for unlock code?

I am going to sell my HTC One and wanted to unlock it first so I bought an unlock code. The only non ATT sim I have is a verizon one but this is not making the phone ask for a sim card... Will a verizon sim card not trigger this? Do I need to use a GSM sim card?

LG G4 Unlocked?

Hello,
I just purchased a LG G4, it is locked to T-mobile. How can I unlock this in a timely manner?
I tried the "unlock" app, but that said it "failed"
Also, I do not have any friends who have tmobile to help me, by putting their SIM card in it and then using the "unlock" app.
Do I have any other ways to do this, besides paying $50 online? Is there a way to install some sort of Custom ROM that also unlocked the SIM?
Thanks a lot!

To permanently unlock the phone you have to use T-Mobile's sim card, make at least one call and then usual wait is about 40 days before they will let you unlocked the phone. What I have heard you could use temporary unlock which gives you 30 days to use the phone with another carrier. I would suggest you go to t-mobile store, tell them your story and ask for a sim card that you can try in the store. They have many activated sim cards in their demo units.
