3600mAh battery problems & WM6 - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Hi All,
First post. I have been an XDA user since the first O2 XDA came out in the UK in about 2002.
I now have the XDA IIs and I upgraded to WM6. Thanks to everyone for their hard work
I also found the battery was draining faster (the system 'metabolism' seems to be faster since it picks up WiFi and Mobile networks much quicker than the old Radio Stack and Operating System on 2003SE).
Anyway, I bought a 3600mAh extended battery on eBay from Cameron Sino Batteries (HK). The new battery cant be recognised on the XDA IIS by WM6 and it wont hold any charge. Also a pain in the neck because the XDA IIs wont fit in the cradle either, but even when i use the mains AC charger, the battery wont charge nor even get hot. The charger is OK and the Blue Angel is OK.
Anyone know whats going on or what is the work around?
Thanks all.

I know its the hols....
Sorry about the bump.... lots of views...
just wondering if anyone has also had this problem of upgraded batteries not reading properly on the WM6 upgrade on BA / not charging
I thought there might be more as people with this problem as a few are having battery drainage issues... the natural remedy is to get a new battery if you have the funds.
...anyone any answers?

This battery very big, oh no, i'm never using it. You must replace changer, because your changer 800mA +/- 5%. You don't change your XDA on USB !!!

I have the same problem as you.
I also bought the 3600mAh battery.
You noe what I do?
I get a screwdriver (star key). Open the 6 numbers of screw (from cradle) then wala.... done.

The charger is not the problem
Hi,
The charger is not the problem... OK OK... it does not fit in the standard O2 XDA IIs cradle but that it not the main problem.
The main problem is that even if I charge the BA using the AC plug and adapter ONLY (ie. not using the cradle) the battery still does not charge up; it doesnt get warm and the BA does not recognise the new 3600mAh battery.
I hope that made sense!

You need to be patient and leave it to charge overnight. I bought one from ebay and it took more than 6 hours for any sign of charging to show. I had already concluded it was no good but decided to leave it to charge overnight. In the morning when I checked it was 100% charged.

Was it the same?
Hi,
Thanks for the reply; was it the same 3600 mAh battery? I left mine for about 8-10 hours with no result at all.
No charge
Not recognised on wm6
No heat (like a charging battery / battery in use gets warm)

Battery options
If no one has a solution, does anyone know what battery options there are for the BA and what SIZE they are?
The people I bought the battery from might provide an alternative:
Such as
* 1490 mAh
* 3600 mAh
any others?

WM6
Sorry to bump it but need some advice all!

I am running two batteries sequentially on my BA:
1490
2400 MAH
the 2400 MAH Does survive for 5 Days !! soem times more, but the drawback is : when the battery meter is close to 30% it suddenly drops to 9% where it can hold for 3 more days !!
n.b: i am running helmi's WM6

Helmi WM6
I'm running Helmi's WM6 too - great package by the way!!!
The big battery (3600mAh) IS NOT recognised and it does not charge. Is there a solution?

I had an old 3600mAh battery as well as a new one from Cameron Sino that had exhibited the same problems ever since I upgraded my HP4700 PDA to WM6. Cameron even sent me a new replacement battery but the problems remained. Hence, it is most likely an issue with WM6. Since I can't charge them anymore, I don't even know if WM6 had "killed" the extended batteries.

What about 2400mAh and 1500 battery from CS?
Have you guys use them?
I'm looking for a new battery. But i'm totally afraid of 3600mAh from CS right now.

Actually it works!
I have an 3600 battary, and it works fine with WM6!
The only issue is, that if it gets to 30% of charge, it also drops down to 9% instead! That sucks! But my battery works pretty well!
So either your accus are bad, or something else, but not the WM6.
Try to downgrade once, and try your battery then.
Actually I have updated my WM6 with my 3600 accu in, maybe it could help, if you do it aswell?
Once again:
1) Downgrade to 2003
2) Plug-in and test your 3600 battary
3) if it works - charge it completely
4) Upgrade to WM6
if it still shouldn't work, than I can't help you either, sorry. But my battary works, as I already mentioned, fine.

Hi,
I got my 3600 mAh battery today and it seems that I have similar problems to charge the big battery. I connected the oem charger directly to my mda III and....
- The orange charger led is off
- Battery manager diplays "AC-Only"
- Main battery is charged with 0%
I' ll wait until tomorrow from now an will see what's happened over the weekend. The interessting thing is when I disconnect the charger the mda III stays on . Dont know for how long!
My 1700 mAh battery work like the oem battery
I´ll keep you informed
rgds.
Jens
Edit:I 'am not able to charge the 3600 mAh battery by using WM 2003, WM 5 and WM 6 either. I think I replace my battery against a other battery.
Did someone know which battery (capacity in mAh) could be charged by using the stock charger?
1700 mAh battery works fine

hi friends,
check with a multimeter the voltage on the battery, if it's under 3.0v try to give a shock directly to the battery with 9v power supply.
if it's not under 3.0v than it's seems that wm6 don't like the battery or the battery is defective.
give me feedback...
i received as a gift a brand new BA two weeks ago, and i'm also figuring to get 3600mah battery.

Cradle ?

Has anyone seen anything about a cradle being available ?
I generally pop my blueangel in the cradle when I get home at night and it charges up and syncs really quickly there as well.

I haven't been able to find one. I bought my TyTn II from clove and they are to have a cradle "soon". http://www.clove.co.uk/viewProduct....Category=0A33F854-4108-4A5E-805C-63811E7D6256
I'm not going to buy one until I get confirmation that it will be able to charge a second stand alone battery.
Hey,
My TyTN II fits in the cradle from HTC for my TyTN. Not perfectly , but 95%. It is fully functional.

Thats great. Thanks for the info. So this one will work fine then http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300149305916
And does yours charge the extra battery in the back with no problem?
I guess I should look up the charging specs before purchasing one.
I just got the TyTN cradle today and the extra battery charger in the back of the cradle has 5 connectors but my TyTN II battery has 4 connectors so if any one is getting a TyTN cradle to charge an extra battery its a waste of money. I know the poster recommended the cradle to charge and hold up the TyTn II and did not advise on the extra battery charging so it was my mistake. I'm just posting this in case another user may find this information helpful.

Strange that the TYTn II fits into the TyTn cradle... I have a car holder for my TyTn and even though The new TyTn II fits into car holder 95% but it does not charge strangely enough.
Yup, the TyTn Charge cradles work but the back of the Kaiser is thinner which places most of the support work on the connector. Plus that extra battery charger ports are now useless. Definately wait for a "real" Kaiser charge cradle. Ahh, the trials of early adopting
I took the TyTN cradle apart, pealed back the glue holding 2 of the end pins down, popped off the center right pin and placed the end pin in its place, went under it with super glue then over it with loctite glue. I put the extra battery in the back, it was at 1% charge and it took 6 hours to get to 100%. It shows red for charging and green for charged. It doesn't get as warm as a battery usually would when charging which coincides with the lengthy 6 hour charge time. The cradle doesn't charge the phone unless the usb is plugged in. But I believe this will suit my needs and any other impatient users out there. It took less than 2 minutes and was super easy.
Which band cradle? Mine has no way to re-locate the pins, there are "divots" on each side of the contacts, right where the moved ones would need to be.
Did you mean which brand of cradle? The guy on ebay has 3 more of them. Do you want me to email u pics of my modified one? Its no trouble. http://search.ebay.com/search/searc...+htc+cingular+8525+hermes+tytn+b78&category0=
If anyone decides to do this I just wanted to single out the fact that my findings were that this works but charges the battery very very slowly. The last 10 percent to reach 100% took 2 hours to complete. The battery is cold in the charger. However the upright cradle charging the phone charges at a normal rate.
I'll prolly wait for Kaiser docks to surface. On the one you modded, did it charge Hermes batteries slowly as well? They are the same capacity and if the Kaiser takes longer I'd be concerned that the charger wasn't monitoring the charge correctly. I use a lot of lithiums in R/C gear and they burn really well when chargers go astray.
Ive never had a Hermes. It charges the battery at almost a normal rate but then when the battery is 90% the charge light turns green then the last 10% takes a few hours to charge up.
Any updates on this ? Finally got my Tilt yesterday and am ready for a cradle

I would like one of these also, but I would like to make it work as a speakerphone while in the cradle. I guess I would need a mini USB splitter and an audio and mike adapter too?
Anyone seen such an animal or have any ideas on just how to do it??

Battery life?! - please confirm the influence of radio version (post 38)

What is your experience with battery life? How often have you recharge it?
Twice a day. But thats because Im using high speed data (3G, HSDPA, WiFi), browsing the web a lot and testing/developing software.
Thanks. And what is "stand by" time? If I leave the mobile switched on without using.
hey
i think it can last for more than 3 days on standby. i recharge it once a day (normal use). if i do heavy data/multimedia use its twice a day.. not so nice as i think
I am disappointed to find that using gps in car with Tilt plugged into car charger, the battery drains faster than it recharges - requiring a charge with phone off to get full battery. Anyone else?

I guess he means HTC Kaiser / Tytn II aka AT&T Tilt.
mine is also not really great, if i compare it to my old vpa compact II, which has a bigger touchscreen and only 200mah bigger battery, its really shameful, cause my old vpa holds easily 3-4 days, but it has only 200mhz i will look for a stronger battery for my s730...
please report in if you find a stronger battery

does the battery from the s710/vox fits inside s730/wings?

1800 mAh cant have the same size as the 1050's from HTC. It may be bigger but this meand you need special cover. S710 and S730 uses same batteries but the cover is different (I tried that).
1) And the cover is included - or it is the bottom of battery?
2) Can you make the photo?
3) How it increase the battery life?
Yeh moneytoo - you mean the differences between the original battery putted to s710 and s730. well it be interesting if somebody will share the experience with this (maybe thicker) stronger battery and put here the back loop.
Thanks, R.
P.S. On the other side - the capacity of AAA cells is still growing - but the size is the same.
ive found this one:
http://cgi.ebay.de/2250mAh-Extented...ageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p1638.m122
but the question is: it is the right cover for s730? if not, where can i get it...
The battery life is just useless on this phone and I'm ready to give up on it.
I charge it fully overnight and with normal use (less than 1 hour of calls, some texting, web browsing on 3G) it is completely dead by 6-7pm! This is without using WiFi, Bluetooth, media player, skype or anything else you might think would be more battery intensive.
I'm often out at work all day and don't get home until late in the evening. I need a phone that will last at least 12-15 hours with normal use, and the S730 does not seem up to the task.
Is this just par for the course with WM6 phones or what?
i just got mine and talking all day it has lasted two so far with 30% left on the original (out of the box) charge.

XDA II, batt. help..

Hi, Need help.. Is it normal for O2 XDA II to turn off at below 40% batt. life? it turns off for atlst 4mins. then turn back ON again and if u try using it again, it turns off again. Is this some kind of there safety features so that batt. life will not be drained? thnx in advnce..
why are you letting it get that low?
you have to remember it is more than a phone so to preserve your data it does shut down if the battery is low, but the standard battery (1300 mAh) isn't vast and if your walking about with the screen on all day it will drain very quickly turn the screen off so its not running the battery flat and it should be fine OR buy a high Ah battery as I did for my XDA IIi from HK cheap as chips and I can go two days easy without charging
It only goes for about 6hrs.. dont know y, yup i kept on turning off the screen. wat Ah capacity did you buy? mine doesn't go long for a day, kept on charging it every day.
3600 mAh if I leave the screen off it lasts about 48 hours comes with a new back cover that while a little diffcult to shut it does and covers the battery fine
think this is the link
http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/battery_centre/
it cost £9.99 plus I think it was £4.99 P & P
Thnx owl, maybe the prob. is with in the batt., i'll try to buy new one..
I just had a replacement 3600mAh battery from a retailer here in the UK (Ebay) as the first battery they gave me was faulty. This one seems to take forever to drain
A std 1300mAh OEM battery should last a couple of days with the radio/Phone on but screen off in standby mode.
The 3600mAh battery should last the best part of a week or longer before it needs a recharge if left on standby. If yours only lasts for a couple of days then you have a faulty battery because yours is doing the same as the faulty one i had, which wasn't even lasting as long as my OEM 1300mAh battery.
I'd get the retailer to exchange it.
Hi!
I'v just bought 3600 mAh battery at http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/battery_centre/ for my xda 2i.
But instead of original 1300 battery, charge indicator shows only 100% or just 0.
Is it because of new battery and i simply need to fully charge and discharge new battery 2-3 times or is it problem of ppc?
Thanks in advance for answer, Gleb

[FAQ] Extended Battery is not Recognized correctly (discharging like the original)

the forum here is full with problems of people who did get a cheap chinese battery from ebay or somewhere else, that is not recognized by their htc hd2 and is discharging at the rate of the shipped original small battery.
also the forum is full with "solutions" that are NOT WORKING that WILL NEVER WORK.
this is the reason for this thread to give the people the one and only answer to fix their problem!
first of all, be sure to have the newest firmware to have the extended battery driver.
but this will only solve charging problems if you got one of the first shipped firmwares.
after that get the ORIGINAL EXTENDED BATTERY. also the 2300mah battery from the company "leicke" is working for me. (looks identical to the original extended battery, maybe its the same)
this batteries will be recognized correctly and will discharge in the right speed!
--- got a chinese "noname" battery? ---
your battery is crap like most other extended batterys for hd2. get another one, but continue reading the rest of this thread before!
i had a cheap 2400mah chinese battery before and had the same problem.
the thing is, that these chinese batteries are faking, they are normal ones because the driver of the hd2 origininally didnt support bigger batterys in the first roms.
the chinese batterys are out of date (they only added a kickstandcover) and also the capacity is mostly a giant fake!
i disassembled my chinese cameron sino battery and here is the result: its made of 2 small batteries pakaged in one frame and controlled with one chip that is sending fakedata to the phone, also the temperature is recognized wrong because it doesn't really have a sensor! it always shows 25,X°C all the time. like i said: totally faked data
tip but not a solution: if you discharge your chinese battery to 0%, remove it and put it back into the device, you should have 50% again, but thats no calibration because a calibration of this batteries is not possible!
my "leicke" battery did cost 21 euro incl shipping and is working correctly, also the high quality cover with metal-kickstand is fitting perfectly, not like the chinese ones that never fits!
dont try to fix the problem with hints and tricks or calibrations, it will NOT AND NEVER work with the cheap crappy chinese batteries! i already tested it!
i hope this thread is helping the most people with their cheap-battery-problems.
thanks for reading
Cheers for the info,,,, really was dissapointed with the cheapo one i got the other day..... Could you provide a link for the leicke battery?

How long does the Leicke battery last by you ?? By me not too long , just a littel more than the original -.-
for me it lasts with wlan on and permanent internet using ca 10-12 hours (and still is not empty). in standby-mode many days and maybe weeks with windows mobile. (under 5-10% draining a day with phone on)
it lasts nearly the double time of the original battery. i can tell you, that the 2300mah are the real capacity and how long your battery lasts depends on your systemsettings, phoneusage etc.
i use battclock to control the current powerdraining. with wlan on it is ca 140-300mah but mostly a little bit under 200mah. so you can calculate yourself how long the battery lasts until it is empty
I'm using the licked battery too and can confirm that it works correctly with the hd2. With current android builds the battery last for 3 days with moderate use. If you can live with the bulky shape, the leicke is definitely a great alternative to the official HTC extended battery. Cover and stand are also quite ok, aluminium cover would be nicer but can surely not be expected at such a low price.

I use the cheap China batterry 2400hr
I bought off ebay for $14.00 US shipped and it works perfectly. The back cover fits like it was made for it. Snaps on cleanly and has never come off or stick up on the edges. The battery charges with Android and WinnMo to 100% and lasts for days. Most of your charging problems may be your rom or radio version. There are probably multiple makers in China so some may be better than others. My Cheap China works works okydoky!
can you share the companyname and capacity of your battery? many people are interested in that
Here is the current link.
It has gone up a little bit. Just bid on it to get the cheaper price. There are several in his store. I got mine several months ago. Just buy a cheap silicone case and cut a hole for the cover to stick through on the back. Works good and looks fine. Only HD2 snobs will know any difference!
http://cgi.ebay.com/2400mAh-Extende...211159?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item4cf386c897
Just bought the Leicke too.
Unfortunately it does not charge at all in WinMO
I use an NRG rom.
It seemed to work in Android but it went really fast downhill at 50% at 7% or so it was at 3.9 Volts which is rather high to be at that %.
maybe your rom don't support extended batterys. try another one like the oem rom from htc and test it.
the first roms didn't charge real extended batterys.
and you need the right android kernel for extended batterys because many kernels are buggy,
i use the kernel of froyo sense 2.4 and its working perfectly
Which WinMo rom are you using Schildzilla?
i am using a german rom called "EPS V5" - it is only a little tweaked oem rom with the newest drivers
thanx a lot.. i'm gonna update the kernel
Its nothing to do with the battery , its the android os and he kernel which is main cause of the battery not getting detected where the manufacturers are putting in the code which only detects the stock battery and thus your extended battery reports and drains like the normal battery.
I have a mugen 4800 for my dell streak and because of dell's coding my battery is not getting detected on froyo and on gingerbread, however it is getting detected properly on android 1.5 and 1.6 so its nothing to do with the battery. I agree to your point regarding the kernels having the extended battery support and that is the main cause for this reporting error.
Thanks! Great info mate
Leicke Extended battery only charges when switched off
I've just bought the extended Leicke battery (from Amazon @ £15.)
When plugged into either my laptop or to the mains adapter I get orange and green alternating blinking lights and it doesn't charge. When the phone is off, the light is constant orange and charges.
I have the standard WWE ROM 3.14.405.2 and have just reapplied the same ROM in case I've done something to cause the problem.
This FAQ seems to confirm that the battery won't charge when the HD2 is on as a result of something that HTC have put into the Kernel to try and make sure that we only buy HTC branded batteries. It seems that I will need to go to a custom version, although I may just leave it off over night when charging.
Thanks.
Hi guys,
Got an HTC extended battery. Not recognized by my hd2 running Pdaimatejam WP7 ROM Ver-7.1. I have read though many threads on XDA, but no solution !
After charging in magldr mode for 10 hrs it shows only 55 %. And the battery tool by HTC only shows capacity as 1230 , while the actual capacity is 2300.
Can any one guide me to a wp7 rom which will recognize the extended battery.

Could someone please help me with all this Kernel stuff etc. I´ve read a lot but I don´t know what special Kernel is compatible with what ROM...
EDIT: Is it an alternative to just buy an externel battery dock so that you could just switch the battery if it´s empty?

New Extended Battery "possibly" 3'500 mAh + External Charger - "Update 10.16.2011"

New Extended Battery "possibly" 3'500 mAh + External Charger - "Update 10.16.2011"
Just recieved my new extended battery with extended back door for my Milestone 1. Bought it from here:
www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180686832371&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:CH:1123
It took a good month to arrive from china to europe, but it's finally here.
It weighs 47 gramms vs 27 gr for the standard BP6X and is twice as thick.
Can't say much about the accuracy of the amperage as I just fully recharged it with the external charger I ordered from here:
www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250859367106&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:CH:1123
As you can see it's quite cheap and although ordered on the same day as the battery, it arrived 3 weeks before..! (About 10 days after my order). It's working very good and sports also a usb port (5.2 Volts and 800 mA output) at the end for standard charging. I haven't tried yet which of the battery or the device will be charged first, though. Will report about it later.
I'll also report about real life battery time in a few days, after testing.
I'm still very happy with my good ol' milestone 1 (european droid 1), and although it's a little short on memory, latest CM 7.1 developpements make it very fast and usable.
Edit: Just tried to charge through the usb port of the charger, it doesn't work. I guess 800 mA is not enough, had the same issue with other car/home chargers. I think motorola's ones have 1A output. Even my Galaxy Tab's isn't powerfull enough... What a Milestone Beast!
Edit 2: Battery has reach 10% after 31 hours of standard use. As I though, real intensity most be around 2800 mAh and not 3500 mAh as stated. But it's still around 2x what we can expect from the original one. I run my Milestone on CM7.1 ROM and 1800MHz network.
Edit 3: I'm experiencing the "1% battery left" effect of some other devices' extended batteries for about 9 hours now! So until now It's been working for more than 40h. I tried to switch the phone of and back on again, but still 1% left and red led blinking (on some devices it makes it measure the value of the second cell, I guess, and brings it back to about 90%. Don't ask me why... It happens on my Dell Streak 5). I hadn't had this with my Xperia X10, where the energy left of my extended battery was accurate.
Final edit: worked for a good 48 hours. I must add that I put my phone during night time in Airplane mode (about 16 hours, but with some wifi surfing).

which charger do u use for charging the new battery through ur device's standardnusb port?
I charged it first with the external charger, as I think it's the best way to be sure that the whole battery is thouroughly and fully charged. But since first charge I also recharged it through the device's microusb port, which seems to work fine.
Since my first post, I also recieved my second extended battery:
www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190572457987&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:CH:1123
It looks almost the same as the first one, except the font used on the sticker is smaller and the price is cheaper.
I'm testing its power time right now, expecting it to be close to the one of its siebling.
I had also ordered a standard sized 1870 mAh battery from here:
www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150585920125&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:CH:1123
Problem with this one is it doesn't show battery status on the phone, as the mAh level can't be determinated by the phone. Will check with the seller what can be done (problem only with my battery?)
I saw another standard 1800 mAh battery for sale ($ 10.-), maybe will give it a try, seller seems more serious.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
Some updates about my second extended battery: I now have had a full discharging/charging cycle (in the phone itself) and it seems that the battery is now calibrated. My updated "Battery Monitor Widget" shows me now 2885 mAh for the full capacity and the phone gives apparently the right power status. Real life use time seems the same as my first extended battery, about 48 hours.

My updated "Battery Monitor Widget" shows me now 2885 mAh for the full capacity and the phone gives apparently the right power status. Real life use time seems the same as my first extended battery, about 48 hours.

How can you even put your Milestone in your pocket?? The battery door looks HUGE
Right now I'm using this battery:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130579480018&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:GB:1123
it has cca 80% of the original battery capacity, however it is much better then the other chinese battery I've owned in milestone, (I think) it supports the 1% mod, and it did cost me $1.89 delivered to my place.
I always take the old original battery and the dying chinese battery in my bag in case this new dies. I will get probably the same power-on hours count as with this extended battery yet with smaller package.
I just order one like this... thank's for the review
