I have an annoying new sms alert that wont go away.
Ive discussed it here before and the problem didnt go away. I did enter the registry and manually zeroed the unread counter but it still shows a new sms everytime i receive a new sms.
So ive decided to hard-reset. So that I have a fresh new device.
Now my question is, can I restore my contacts-sms-mms and appointments using PIM backup from dotfred.net?
Meaning I will back up now, hard reset then restore. Does it defeat the purpose of hard resetting?
Also, I have several SPB apps like diary - mobile shell and so on. They all have backup settings options which I use. After ive hard resetted, can I re-install these apps and then restore to previous settings or will this also defeat the purpose of a hard reset?
Thanks guys!
A hard reset will more than likely not fix this. What you are having is a network issue, not a hardware one. What's the message you keep on getting?
For some reason, I dont think its a network issue.
I receive no message.
This is how it is. Ill soft reset, and upon start up it will say I have a new sms, but no new sms exists (thoroughly searched all inbox folders).
So ill go to the following directory in the registry:
HKEY_Current_User\System\State\Messages\SMS\Unread and then set the count value to 0.
For some reason, I have 2 items under Unread.
Count 1 (0x000001)
Text SMS \ MMS (1)
After I set it to 0, the bottom string still shows SMS \ MMS (1)
In the past, ive deleted the Text SMS \ MMS (1) string and restarted, but it keeps coming back.
Lets assume it is, what do I need to do to clear it?

Hi
this is my first post, so sorry if i say anything stupid
I have had a long look for topics covering this problem, but can't find any, if it has been covered already would someone please point me in the right direction.
I have just updated my O2 Mini S to the latest O2 rom. Before the update in an attempt to save my text messages i copied the file "Messaging" from My Device/Windows to my storage card.
After finishing the update i copied it back into place, overwriting the (now empty) Messaging folder.
However, none of my old messages are shown in the text inbox, and all the new texts i get are lost after a soft reset.
I thought i must have done something silly with the copying across of my old Messaging folder so i did a hard reset and started again, leaving the messaging folder well alone this time, but still all inbox messages are lost as soon as i soft reset (which is something i need to do alot with this phone).
Is there a way to stop this?
Update: I have checked the messaging folder and the texts i've received after my hard-reset are still there after the soft reset, but the text inbox doesn't seem to detect them. Same applies to Hotmail inbox, i received lots of emails and the messaging folder now has over 30 items in it, but after a soft reset they are not shown in my inbox :?
Thanks for any help

try to search this forum, I think I read about this some time ago. Unfortunately I cant remember where was it.
I tried to soft reset, clean all sms/mms box but not success... only highlighted that I have 1 unread meesage...
U have to clear it out from the registry.
I had this same problem for a very long time.
I had it so bad that even after clearing it manuall from the registry I would still get a new sms after receiving an sms.
Do a search with my user name and unread sms and you will find the address of the registry change needed.
It is nice this registry change but it not helps after SW restart / restart by Power Button.
Any other idea?
FIXED !!!
Find utils to fix this issue. So run on device and SW restart...
I've used fixunreadcount.cab, tried turning off threaded messages and deleting from there, but nothing works! It says I have 1 unread SMS, when NOTHING IS IN ANY OF THEM. I am NOT going to hard reset, i put too much into this phone
might it be an MMS waiting to be downloaded?
Hey,
if you have a registry editor on your device, please check the following registry key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\State\Messages\sms\Unread]
You should find under it the following entry: "Count"
Try to set its value to dword:00000000 - afterwards exit the reg editor, open shortly another program to give the device time to correctly store the value, then soft reset your device.

I randomly have to fix this myself.. Sometimes I'll get a text message and it'll beep multiple times, as if I have multiple SMS, but when I read 'em I only find one, but the unread count is 2, so once I read it, it's still 1. Then I have to go in and edit that registry key.
Very annoying. I wonder if anyone has made a simple program that 0's out all of those unread keys to make 'fixing' this simple?
It is just not worth the effort to write a tiny little program for it.
Simply export your REGISTRY KEY once it is set to "0", then import it whenever it is needed ...
maybe U guys can look here...
was having the same problem...

nid to disable the Threaded SMS as there was a "hidden" sms.
try SMS Tweaker 1.5

Friendly Warning: My friend you have now opened two threads in as much as a day that covers topics already discussed. Please make sure your search before your post a question. Forum Rule number 1 is "Make sure it hasn't been asked before."
Hi everyone, i hope this hasnt been resovled before, but i did a few searches and came up blank.
Ive had my TyTn II for quite a while now, and managed to rock up 48000 SMS on it, which stuffed up the memory, making me do a hard reset. But now i have a different problem.
I tried to delete all my SMS, which was about 14000, as i didnt want a repeat of what happened last time, but after a long tiime the SMS appeared to delete, so i did a soft reset, and about 6900 SMS remain, all in sent items. i tried again, and the same thing occoured. also once after resetting the SMSes that i sent/recieved the past day dissapeared.
Has anyone expierenced a problem like this? i think its a corrupt SMS in the Data files somewhere, but i really dont want to fish out a particular one, or hard reset my phone again.
And FYI im running the stock 6.1 TyTn II AUS ROM (Rom version 3.29.710 WWE)
Thankyou for your help
not completely sure whats going on but i have a suggestion worth trying out...
assuming your requirement is to keep a clean house with a minimum number of text items in your inbox and sent items, i imagine you would like to archive those messages (as opposed to simply deleting them) as a bonus.
search for "pimbackup" here on xda and download it and install it to your device. pimbackup has two kinds of backup operations:
1. backup and keep existing items
2. backup and REMOVE the backed up items
try option 2...this way, you will have an archive of all those text messages and you can let pimbackup handle the mass delete operation...who knows, maybe it will "stick" better than a manual mass deletion.
good luck!
i thought when u delete messages it just goes to the deleted folder not really off the phone go to that folder in messaging and delete them from there or from the pc.
Yes, but the default limit for deleted items is 50 messages. then it starts rolling them off and deleting...
Hello friends,
I have this peculiar problem, when i delete sms/ smses and also delete them from deleted folder, and then soft reset the device (both from the hard button or from soft reset button) deleted sms reppears in the inbox again.
I have currently 6000+ sms and wants to delete many sms from it but they reppear after soft reset.
I have also selected below options in menu>tools>options>storage>empty delted items
1) immediately
2) Mannually
3) on connect / disconnect
but nothing works,
Friends kindly help into this.
Regards,
Vishal
Friends please help
Friends got the solution by myself
Here is what i tried
1) Before deleting smses my device (main) memory was just 2.6 mb free, i cleaned up / deleted unwanted files from my device memory and brought it to 12 mb free
2) After that i deleted the smses that i wanted to delete and
3) VOILA after soft reset, none of the smses reappears
Cheers,
Vishal
You are a genius!
I've been having the same problem for a month and a half now. Messages would keep reverting back to the "magic" date of 9/8/10. But I also had the same memory problem, maybe 3mb or so free and again 6000+ texts. My hotmail account would also resurrect emails back to 9/8 after every soft reset. I've looked on these forums and a lot of people were saying go with a hard reset. Well, I have to much apps/settings on my phone to just do that willingly. So I tried what you said. I also tried removing Windows/Messaging before a soft reset. After reset, texts stayed gone, but hotmail account went back to 9/8/10 (and before) emails. But I noticed I now had like 35mb free of memory, so I tried deleting all the hotmail emails and went for another soft reset. And they were gone after reset! So removing the messaging folder may have worked, but I think it was being able to delete the messages(emails) with enough memory to I guess, fully "temporarily store and erase" within the memory. Thanks!
