MOTOROKR S9 works awesome... - Touch CDMA Accessories

...right out of the box!
my only beef is that you cant really lay back with them on. They dont rest on the back of your neck (probably by design) so when your sitting on a plane they get in the way a bit.
other thatn that they are sweet. Nice sound quality and all the controls work as expected.

The first one I got half of the buttons stopped working but so far the second one I have had has worked through many workouts.

Have you tried these?

Has anybody tried the Jabra BT620s on their tilt? if so, are they good and loud? Are they clear and no skipping? If not, what are the best bt headphones less than a 70 dolars.
Playing mp3 with BT620s and more player, great louder sound, no jumps...
all is ok.

How old are they? Are they better than the moto s9's?
I actually just purchased this headset and it came in yesterday.
I like it so far. Good sound quality and OK range, though it's the first bluetooth device I've purchased.
However, some notes.
1)
The side of the earphones has a round circle shaped thing with LED's inside. This is an indicator led. The device has RED circles on the ears when it is charging. Yellow when battery is low, and blue for indicating when it is turned on among other things.
This is fine, but when the device is on the left side blinks every 5 seconds. In addition, when you get on a phone call both earpeices blink every 5 seconds. If you're playing music the same thing. If you're plugged in to the computer it will start to charge (red), but if you play music on the computer using the headset as USB headphones, the device will blink red.
I don't know about you, but I don't like looking like I'm on the Barney or Tele Tubby show. I prefer coworkers not know the device is even on. It'd be one thing if the large circles of light stayed ON, but blinking is a distraction to those around me. One godsend is with it in bluetooth mode (NOT connected to usb) you can hold the two buttons down and disable the blinking, but in USB mode you cannot.
2)
Being one of my first mass-consumer bluetooth devices to purchase I'm not sure if this reflects all devices. However, you cannot change the PIN number that allows the phone to authenticate the device. It's default is 0000 and it stays that way.
I have hacked bluetooth devices before using both my laptop and a high gain bluetooth antenna, and having done this I know that 0000 is the default for many headsets and other bluetooth devices. With the software I have on my laptop, I could have someone talk on my headset/phone and listen on my laptop to the convo, I could also barge in and say what I want in their conversation. I've done it to other people at starbucks with their bluetooth, with the high gain antenna I did it over 30 feet away.
This is a security risk, and I don't want my conversations monitored. Unfortunately, with this device you cannot secure yourself from such an attack. 0000 PIN is hardcoded to the device. Lame.
In summary, this handset is a good device other than the two major problems above. The sound quality is great, on par with any other standard USB headset -- but it has a Mic, it can pause/stop/play etc etc music on your Kaiser, or Windows media player when used in usb mode. Etc etc.
Thanks for that nice review. I'm really stuck right now, idk which to get out of the jabra one, soutwhing sa505, or the moto s9. I'm leaning towards teh moto s9's because they are small and supposedly have loud volume.

i would personally recommend staying away from the southwings. i personally was not fond of them at all and found the overall quality pretty bad. i own both the jabra's and the moto's and would have to say that both are great quality. but due to size and weight, the s9's win in all around comfort and usability. and the above post is right, the VERY obvious blinking rings on the ears that make you look like robotic princess leia can get annoying on the jabras (although you can turn them off). on the other hand though, they are fun to stare at sometimes.
great, thanks a lot. i think i'll get the moto s9's. i have a bit for around 12 bucks for the jabras, so if i win that, i'll get those to. found the s9's for around 60. hope they're good. are they the best out there?
@ jon_k :
LOL, please cut the leds !!! After turned it on, click on both left side & right side during 8 seconds.
I have this BT headset since more than 1 year, perfect product, maybe a little bit too big but jabra not planned to launch a new one
I personally bought the Jabras BT320s and am very satisfied. It does have removable headphones, leaving a standard 3.5mm jack so i could easily replace the stock ones(which are VERY good) with my Sony earbuds. Loud and clear, and even the built-in mic works wonders.

Permanent, or after shutoff/turnon does blinkies come back? I do shut them off using this method, but such a pain to do every time. ;-)

I had both the jabras and the s9's for 3 months. I sold the jabras right away after using both for awhile. the jabra's big, ugly and dont sound any better then the s9 does. I am more then happy with the s9's. Much smaller and the sound is almost the same.
Blinkies come back on every power cycle or recharge, as disclosed in the owner's manual. Makes you look like an idiot.
Great headphones, but a second problem is that the big, round buttons are way too big, so you will be hitting them by mistake a lot.
On my Tilt with the ATT ROM, sometimes they work great, sometimes they are cutting in and out, sometimes they won't connect with A2DP no matter what I do.
When watching video, the buffer lag can be a bit of a pain.
Jabras
I love mine. I look like a fool driving down the road with them on though. I use them for music and as handsfree. The handsfree works and sounds so much better than the normal BT's. Everyone noticed a huge difference on their end when I started using for handsfree. I love how the Music pauses and them goes right back when you hang up. Got them brand new for $20 at the AT&T store at the mall!!!!
Kevin
20 $ !!!!!!!!! what a good price !!!!
I've sold my Jabra 620 and replaced it with the Moto S9.
The S9s are much better in:
- size
- less geeky look
- smaller, easier to carry
- sound is good
- No super dorky light show
- buttons small but useful
The S9s are worse in:
- ear inserts fall off headset a lot, ended up using superglue
- only one earphone is active during phone calls, which is lame
- less comfy for long haul
- tend to interfere with collar shirts at base of neck
The 620 are better:
- comfort
- two active earphoness during phone calls means easy to hear caller
- sound great
The 620s are worse:
- Dorky lightshow
- you will look silly
- big buttons get hit by mistake all the time, will kill your battery in a bag
- big and don't stow well
Both of these worked much better with the Fuze than with the Tilt. The Fuze can handle multitasking like music and a screen rotation, the Tilt...not so much.
I'm sticking with the S9s for a while.

Tilt + Motorola S9 = Audio Skipping

I can barely play a podcast or song without it skipping around and sounding terrible. I’ve looked around for possible a2dp fixes, but cant seem to find anything that works. I tried the cab fix floating around, and it seemed to make it worse...
Anyone else having this issue, or know of a fix?
Ill even try a new ROM if need be. I’m current running the latest stock AT&T ROM at the moment.... haven’t tried any homebrew stuff on the tilt yet. I just broke open my old 8125 and installed WM6.1 with the touch flow cube... that was cool!
Don't use bluetooth headsets, but there is a fix for that in kaiserTweak as far as I remember. Besides, I've seen lots of threads about bluetooth issues here. You should search around.

Wow... Dont use one... Great idea... Thanks for the advice.
Im gunna go return my Tilt and grab one of those bag phones off eBay today. Screw technology....
I haven't had an issue streaming internet radio over my S9's, on the old or new ROM. There are some BT tweaks in advanced config though...
-Jay
You talking bout the advanced config in KaiserTweak? I just unlocked my tilt and installed Dutty's latest and it still does it...
What advanced config are you refering to?
EDIT:: I just noticed there was an advanced config in system settings on Dutty's... playing with the BT settings now... but even the call quality with the S9 is garbage...

Advanced config is a similar program to Kaiser Tweak. It is made by Shapp's. You mentioned that you saw it in your Dutty ROM. Dutty may have baked that Shapp's goodness right in...

Bull****...Here's your problem
Lower your bit pool setting in schap's advanced config......Set your bit pool to 61....max supported bit pool to 64.....minimum pit pool to 14....sample rate to 48000Hz that will fix your problem...I promise
Moto S9 are ****n' awsome.....

I agree. I wear mine to the gym. I stream internet radio over an HSDPA connection on my Tilt to the S9's. I can't stand when I forget to bring my S9's and I have to use a wired headset with an mp3 player. The wires really annoy me.

I had my bitpool set at 20... Max 80... Everything else the same... Heard lower bit pool was better... haven’t tested your settings yet, but i did notice something strange. I paired the headset to my buddies laptop, and the audio worked fine after a few seconds...
Paired it back up with my phone, and as long as I’m not holing it in front of me (the phone), the audio was actually fine. Holding it in front of me, and having it gripped as if i was just holding it to hold it, covering up the majority of the phone, the audio sucked.... I placed it on the table in front of me, and off to the side, and the audio re-establishes a decent quality... really strange....
do the radio versions make a diff on the BT quality for a2dp? Should I try a different radio....?

Huh... didnt think about that.... although i usually have wifi off anyway.... ill double check
At least its more widespread than i thought.... is it just an A2DP issuie? it didnt seem to do it with a regular BT headset for talking.... and using the s9 for a conversation didnt seem to suffer the same issuie either... just sterio audio...
Still Having issues
Wireless is off and bit pool is down to 64 but I still have the "skipping" issue about 3 or 4 times a song
Hmmm
Yeah i have the settings set like suggested, but still have the issue when the device is obstructed.... I suppose thats just the nature of the beast. Not sure what else to do...
Will a different radio version provide different bluetooth performance?
Hate to say this, but I bought some S9's yesterday and they seem to be great! I'm using the default settings for A2DP.
However, I can see that there might be issues if the phone is directly infront of your head, since the transmitter and the receiver would have your head between them. Doesn't bode well for having the phone in your pocket and using the controls on the headphones does it! I'll see how they fare over the week with normal usage and then see if I'm still pleased!

I found some posts saying to delete the reg keys involving min and max bitpool, and that seemed to help somewhat... and it seem slike after the first bit of skippage, it seems to be fine.... all this and I havent had time to hit the gym to really try it out yet lol... Ill report back when I know more real world testing... on my desk seemed fine...
S9's are just crap. I have a set, and I hate mine, due to the constant interruptions unless there is direct line of sight between the transmitter and the receiver, and the pressure they put on my ears while still being very loose at the same time.
Not recommended.
Surur
Well, here is the report back! I'm still pleased. Tonight I gave them a real work out streaming audio through WMP since it's the biggest memory hog, surfing the net using Opera Mobile via a WiFi connection, logged into Skype and MSN and occasionally sending/receiving SMS. There was one heck of a lag whilst sliding the keyboard out. i could type SMS, but it took a few seconds for the screen to catch up. Im not dissapointed since all the other apps were running in the background at the time and would have all been reformatting for the switch to landscape mode. However, the S9's were perfect. No jumping, skipping, or lagging at any point, and I could use the headset audio controls without delay no matter what else was being done to the phone.
All in all, a great set of headphones and I reckon will give me 5 days of use based on around 4hours a day of music use. However the Kaiser is only just lasting a day now I'm using approx 5hours of the screen being constantly on, with 3 hours being WiFi use, and 4 being streaming music. Bigger battery time and larger memory card me thinks! (Larger card, cos I want to store more music than a 2GB card will let me!)
Hey guys the problem isn't totally the Tilt's fault. Playing with the Tilt's BT settings will make it a bit better, the real issue is in the S9. The BT radio is not very strong. If you review the S9 manual it will show that the phone has to be put into the "optimized zone' of the body, which is basically above the waist and below the neck and preferably to the left or right side of the body. Yes I know it's BT and it should go 30 feet and does well (not quite 30 feet) as long as the device is not right up next to something, like your body. Also, make sure nothing is covering the back bar of the S9. i can use my hand to cover the bar (where the radio is) and I will get drops immediately. i found this out because the first day I tried to use the S9 I had a jacket with a big thick collar. I would get skips left and right. Once I moved the device to the "optimized location" and made sure the s9 wasn't obstructed then I got good signal.
I think the s9 is great for workouts where you can leave your Tilt sitting on the bench, then you can go without any issue. As long as you don't throw your sweat towel over the Tilt.

That's all I've ever used the S9's for is going to the gym. I usually either have the Tilt in the cupholder of the treadmill, or otherwise I have it on the floor at my feet while I'm using another piece of equipment. Never had any problems with it.

For what it's worth, I own both a pair of S9's and a pair of Motorola HT820's. As much as I love the size and styling of the S9's, they do not hold a candle to the HT820's.
As mentioned in previous posts, I believe that the BT antenna on the S9's is extremely weak, and perhaps they lack a large buffer for streamed audio? What leads me to suspect this is that when using my HT820's, I can go a long distance from my device without skipping or interruption, even having music play on for a few seconds after going outside of what I would reasonably think their range would be.
With my S9's, all I need to do is turn my head the wrong way to have skipping.
If I was buying again, I would never spend money on the S9 headset again. Try as you might, tweaking out out device settings won't really fix your reception.
Anyhow, that's my $0.02

Jabra BT8040

VERY COOL BT EAR PIECE!
The thing i enjoy about this the most is the ability to listen to music from my phone! I was kinda sketchy to the concept, but it is MONO sound, and sounds very good. The sound quality and volume is nice.
The ear bud fits snug in my ear and doesn't slip out or bounce around when i turn my head.
Since it allows music, you can also hear your ringtones, applicaiton/game noises, and other sounds your phone makes.
Another rad feature is the "MultiPoint" connection that allows you to connect up to 8 devices, and have 2 working at any one time.
It's a small ear piece, but is good quality, sounds great, and works well!

i really like the looks of itt nice and small
i was jus wondering i have a HTC TOCUH from bell
and with this bluetooth will i be able to hear songs from my phone
in other words i can use this as a wireless headphones too?
cause couple of days ago i stopped by to look at some bluetooths
and the guy at the store told me tht HTC TOUCH doesnt support that
soo no metter what bluetooth u get it wont work.
and that was disappointing soo then i didnt buy one.
I just bought one of these... they're on sale right now at:
http://www.2daysbargain.com/
It ends today so you need to make up your mind pretty quick.
HTC Touch supports A2DP which is the main thing in supporting stereo music. The BT8040 also supports this (majority of mono headsets won't), so you shouldn't see any issue using the two together.
I hope at least... that what wryun mentions he's doing. It's also what I plan on doing. And from other reading it sounds like there won't be an issue.
I had one of these. In theory it could have been the greatest earbud ever. Unfortunately I had constant issues.
First, you cannot keep it in the traditional diagonal position for an earbud as the microphone rests on your cheek and is thus muffled.
Second, and this is what really pissed me off, the mic eventually stopped working. I would try the voice dial and it would never register my voice. Call after call would come in and I would answer without the caller being able to hear me. Seriously, the only way I could get it to finally work was to throw it at something...i.e., the ground, my dashboard, my windshield, the walls, etc...
I retired it and it has since been lost, possibly in the wash. I currently switch off between an invisio g5 (as small as the jabra with few issues) and a Samsung WEP470. Neither have A2DP and I must admit I miss that, but actual functionality is more important to me.

TIP: Jawbone ICON BT Headset

Received my new Jawbone ICON BT (ROGUE Ed) headset two days ago and modded it with the new A2DP-software available with the updater from Jawbone.
Before I used the Jawbone PRIME and was very satisfied with it, but after 1 year of constant use batt.cap was not so satisfactory anymore.
The package is charming and contains charger, micro-USB connector-cable, ear-buds for any ear size and a very wisely designed earloop (mobile in all directions and the first one ever that fits to my funny ears).
Once plugged into the ear You can dance rock´n roll with it without loosing it. In the evening only my pillow reminded me that I forgot to take it off
Once the Jawbone ICON updater is downloaded from the Jawbone-HP You can change the voices whispering into Your ear and download apps like Voice dialler and other apps as well as the new A2DP-sw which I did.
It pairs clean and easy and multipoint so I paired it with my LG GD910 Handy/CellPhone-watch and my HD 2.
And let me tell You: it works PERFECT !!! I can accept calls from both phones, put one call on hold, get the other and switch between them. The sound is excellent and loud and can be set directly on the phone.
The best is: it fully works with HD2s Widcomm-BT-stack ! I can listen to music, get the directions from Copilot and You-Tube vids as well as TCPMP-player (netdrg ed). Volume for music can be regulated up and down simply by pressing the call-button.
The noise assasin kills the background noise so that Your phone partner will believe You are in a silent graveyard.
Pricy though but worth every single cent !
Thanks for the tip! I've been shopping for a new headset for my HD2 and that sounds like a great solution.
yes the icon is a kick ass bluetooth and goes wit the HD2 very well
thanks
Good review mate. Iv got the prime, bit of an hit and miss for me.... waitingfor it to die or lose it before investing in a new one!!! keep the reviews coming

Replacement Headphones for Samsung Focus

I recently destroyed my OM headphones that came with the phone and had the arduous task of finding a compatible headset that offered quality and functionality.
I found out that these do not work
iBeats Dr Dre edition- mic does not work and volume buttons do not work (100)
Skull Candy- Mic does not work but the play and pause buttons do(60)
and finally the one that did work
V-moda vibe duo- full functionality but only comes with an answer button which does play an pause. (100)
feel free to add your experience with purchased headsets
Sound quality was the best on V-moda, then iBeats, then skull candy
Skull candy is a company and not a specific headphones... they have many models. As for the skull candy full metal jackets, the mic does work. I cannot compare them to the others mentioned, but the sound is very good.
My Marshall Minors work on the focus. Not the cheapest but they are pretty cool looking and sound great.
this might be a little late but I need some new headphones for use at work and do not want to spend a lot. I searched "ehs60annbe" on amazon and found plenty of merchants selling what appear to be the exact headphones that come with the phone.
These ones are $6.83 +free shipping

I lost my pair that came with the phone, so I was excited to see these.
I ordered a pair and they should arrive tomorrow.
If they are indeed the same as those that came with the phone, I might order me a couple more - I really liked them, and they worked perfectly with the phone (control wise).
Thanks for the post.

Unfortunately I'm having problems with these headphones - for some reason, the controls will only increase the volume - you can't decrease the volume.
Perhaps I received a "bad" pair? Anyone else tried these?
The Focus has a VERY clean audio output. I've fed it into my home stereo and was impressed with the detail and clairity. I listened with Etymotic 6i headphones and was blown away. After that, the included headset sounds muddy with a artificial bass boost.
For those who can afford to splurge on a headset, consider the Etymotic mc3
Any recommendations for matching the original pair that came with the Focus?
My priorities:
-Must be able to trigger voice control
-Must have working microphone
-Must be able to answer/hangup calls
-Must have volume up and down
-Must not be expensive
-Should be gel like for in-ear
I've tried iPhone ones, they don't do volume/up down.
I've tried tried the common silver Samsung one with one button - the button doesn't pick up or hangup calls.
Help!
This ones looks identical to the oem ones and they are pretty cheap!:

Headphones that WILL be fully compatible with wp7, and sound pretty decent as well.
Though it will probably be a few more months until they are released.
Anyone had any luck finding headphones with working volume and answer call buttons? Preferably ones with a more sturdy cover over the connector since my cable broke because of too much twisting and bending.

jkimrey, Did you find a solution? I have the same problem. I read somewhere that it's because Samsung is using a newer standard that allows for TV Out or something. But this is really annoying.
same here i cant find any that the buttons fully work on, that i'm willing to buy. I got some on amazon that only volume up works. my wifes blackberry ones that came with her torch work but i cant find them anywhere. The cat ate my original ones

I can say that these are the ones i got from amazon same thing with the button... It doesnt even look the same as the OEM ones.
Has anyone tried the Zagg Smartbuds? they appear to have all the controls that one could want [play/pause, skip FW/BK, Volume, answer/hangup(I assume would work with voice activation as well)] but they are a bit pricey.
Am I the only one who would like a non-in ear headphone that works with the Focus?
At this point, I just want something that's compatible! I have had zero luck so far in getting earphones compatible with my Focus. I too found the common Samsung ones. Thankfully, I got two pairs for less than $10. Guess what they work perfectly with? My effing iPod touch. GAH.
I honestly have no idea why this is so hard...
V-Moda =
I have to second the V-Moda headphones. I'm currently using them in conjunction with Monster replacement foam tips (medium) and the sound is amazing (albeit the highs are a little muffled but the bass is punchy and responsive). It is a one button setup which bothered me at first, but with a dedicated volume rocker on the device it's really not so much of an issue that I thought it would be. If the Focus only had an equalizer of some sort to bring out the highs, these headphone would be perfect. The mic quality in the headset is beautiful and these 'phones are as durable as all heck (they've been: stuck in a car door for 50 miles, went through the wash, stepped on, trampled, chewed on by a dog, caught on bushes etc.) and have never even began to show signs of wear. If you can live with pocket adjusting the volume, I would recommend getting these.
I should probably mention that I DO NOT work for V-Moda despite how it sounds... I just happen to be a sort of audiophile and while the Focus itself doesn't have the BEST sound quality (I'm coming from a Cowon S9 lol) these heaphones help to bring out its above average playback capability. Another side note is that in response to the OP, the Modas don't only pause/play/answer call/hang up. While listening to music playback you can double tap the button to skip to the next song or triple tap it to skip back.

The iPhone headphones work decently. They don't fully work (microphone / volume up and down), but pause / play / next song/ previous song does work. Before the mango update, I was only able to get the play to work. It seems Microsoft is slowly making the iPhone headphones compatible with the Focus.

Does anybody have a link to a hardware specification for what these in-line buttons actually do for the WP7 phones?
Pretty much all the headphones with in-line controls and a microphone have 4 conductors which are:
- left-audio
- right-audio
- common/ground
- signalling/mic
Here is the spec for IPod Shuffle remote headsets:
pinouts.ru/PortableDevices/iphone_headphone_pinout.shtml
david.carne.ca/shuffle_hax/shuffle_remote.html
So the three buttons operate as follows:
Button 1 - short to ground through 10K resistor (up)
Button 2 - short to ground (answer/hangup/play/pause)
Button 3 - short to ground through 4.7K resistor (down)
But the ipod remote (no mic) has an onboard microcontroller that receives DC power on the mic line as well and is used as a sort of authentication device allowing the Ipod Shuffle to uniquely identify the remote through a challegage response tone scheme. I'm not sure if this is included in the iphone remote cause the circuitry would probably interfere with the mic signal.
Headphones with only one button always short mic/4th conductor to ground so that will always work, but I bet WP7 and Iphone/ipad specs for the resistors for the up/down buttons are different.
I hope WP7 remotes don't have the microcontroller.
I may disassemble my OEM Samsung headphones and try to figure this out. It would be nice to get some Shure or Sennhesier hi-end headphones and plug them into a little adapter that provided to correct buttons. All the hi-end earbuds are iphone/ipad-only.
Presumably I could just cut off the ear-buds on the samsung headphones and solder some of the Shure connectors on there - then just plug in the Shure ear-buds. (all high-end Shure earbuds have replaceable cords
