Hey guys,
Was wondering if theres a button you can push to activate the password lock instead of having to wait for the timer to go. Thanks!
-Anthony
hold end call for a few seconds(red phone button)
ekw,
as I mentioned in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1780468 holding the end call button just locks the keys, but/and
- "any child who can read" is able to unlock it (unlock & *)
- this way of locking doesn't ask/require a password/PIN to unlock the device
I'm using the standard HTC Rom.. maybe your's is different?
Mine: HTC TyTN II (Dutch)
R: 1.27.12.11
G: 22.45.88.07H
D: 1.56.00.00
Use htc endkey then . Holding red phone button locks mine!!(maybe i changed it a long time ago and forgot )
ekw,
does 'HTC endkey' invokes the 'enter PIN code' screen to appear or just tap 'unlock' and then 'tap here to unlock' on the screen or use '*'?
i can confirm the using "HTC Endkey" to lock the device DOES NOT invoke the pin entry screen when you have the pin/password entry enabled. The only sure fire way around this is to set the pin entry/password "prompt if device is unused for" to 0 minutes; this way whenever the display is automatically OR manually turned off (through power button or device lock (assigned to a key etc)) when the phone is woken it will always ask for the pin to be entered.

I'm "happy" that you can confirm our 'problem'
Fact is.. I've put the screen to turn off after 2 minutes of non-activity, but when I'm for instance at home, the device shouldn't lock itself with a password when the screen is turned off.
So I'm trying to find a way to be able to enable/disable the device lock by for exemple tapping an icon on the today screen or hitting an assigned key.
Briefly said.. see attached screencapture..
instead of opening that screen (settings, lock, <entering the password>) and enable/disable the option.. I want that (!) enabling/disabling to be done by hitting an assigned key which edits a registry settings..
I do think that the option which you'll see in the screencapture is being remembered in the registry.
I'm willing to find the registry key and programming a 'tool' myself which will edit the registry key.. but I must do some searching (programming for xda).

Is it possible to remap my voice-dial button to use as a device lock button?
Or any other way (without using extra programs) to achieve this?
yes it is, check out the thread named "Yet another device lock application" or search for amstrong, he made such an app. It calls the device lock today-plug-in, but you can disable the plug-in from the today screen and the app will continue to work. I use AEBPlus to bind it to my comm manager button, double clicking the button will lock the device. Binding it to your voice dial button is also possible with AEBPlus. I'll attach both files here.
Great stuff Koksie.
Thanks a lot!
One thing I discovered, instead of AEBplus you can also use the "buttons" option in the settings to map Device Lock to a hardware button.
Yes, you can of course do it that way, but then you loose the original functionality of that button. With AEBPlus I just bind the devicelock to a double click on my Comm manager button. One click still brings up the original Comm Manager. In this way I can bind apps to buttons and still leave the original button set-up as it came out of the box.
That's true, but I never use VoiceDialing so it's no problem for me
What is different with Device Lock on Today? And how to turn off backlight except Power button? It's mean like Nokia. When you in key lock mode, you can't turn on backlight excep press unlock keypad.
the basic function is the same as the today plug-in. By using this app, you don't have to use the touch screen to lock your device and you can remove the plug-in from your today screen, thereby freeing up space on the screen.
I don't really understand your other question. If you mean that you want the backlight off untill you unlock the device, that is not possible with this app, since to unlock you need the touchscreen and therefore the backlight comes on.

Can you attach the files pls?
log in to this site and you will see the attached files in my first post in this thread.
whoops...
Is there a way to use it to unlock as well? I'd like to use the button to lock and unlock without touching the device
I was wondering is there a app that will lock my Diamond by clicking a shortcut?
I don't want S2u2 it's buggy imo. But i would just like to use the std. locking through a shortcut.
Pressing and holding the hang-up button just doesn't work for me.
If pressing and holding a button for 2 seconds is too hard for you then perhaps you should consider buying a slave to do it for you....
It isn't the fact that i don't wanna push it.
But after using it one week i already notice that the pad hangs to the hang-up button a heightdifference of a mm is already present.
I don't like that so i'd rather push a shortcut.
I press the power button briefly, not sure if that's lock, but it works for me.
chech the thread "Lock Screen or put into "standby"? Best set-up?", post 9 & 10.

You could do HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\BackLight\AutoDeviceLock Enable from 0 to 1 and everytime your backlight goes off (which is quite quick with the Diamond) the device will automatically lock
Ensure that Long Press End Key is set to lock your device (Start -> Settings -> System -> Long Press End Key -> Automatically execute the seleted action: Lock device.
Next open a registry editing program and navigate to HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\HomeLSKPath and enter \windows\endkey.exe.
Then navigate to HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\HomeLSKText and enter Lock (or whatever text you want to be displayed on the button).
Save the changes and soft-reset the device (or disable and re-enable HTC Touch Flow 3D) to implement the change.
Personally i've started using Sensor Lock which seems to work really well

Locks and unlocks by rotating the screen. Has lots of nice options and locks the hardware buttons too which is good.
PocketShield looks pretty cool. It's around $11 if you decide to buy it.
So...
1. Install S2U2 v.16 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=412418
2. Disable any other locking programs or settings; could be used for autolocking only "Turn off backlight if device is not used for 30 sec" on Start\Settings\System\Power\Advanced.
3. Install a registry editor (my favorite is SKTools v.4.3.1.2)
4. Open HKLM/Software/HTC/manila/HomeLSKPath, which is the left softkey (Standard = Phone, but nothing is listed there), and write here: \Program Files\S2U2\s2u2.exe
5. Open HKLM/Software/HTC/manila/HomeLSKText and write here: Lock (or anything you want for the name of the button)
6. Close registry editor and... you could lock your device anytime you want!!! The left soft key that was "Phone" on default TouchFlo 3D is now "Lock" (the Phone key is already present on hardware buttons, so nothing to loose...)
Many thanks for this to A_C and mkhattab.
But this version seems cannot lock the Home key, any idea?
if you press the home button, it will unlock, but only for a second. It then automatically goes back to s2u2 screen. Although it is still possible to use touchscreen during that brief moment..
thnx.. this is a great tweak!
i did the same thing after installing the s2u2 but after a while i realized that this method has 1 disadvantage: anytime you want to lock you have to go "home first" and only in the "home" tab you can lock the device.
how i solved? i used HButton and put the lock on the "call" hardware button.
now, it doesn't matter in witch tab i am..long press on "call" and my diamond is locked.

Guys am i doin something wrong?
I got my HTC Diamond yesterday and been using it for a day now... i just press once on my power button every time i dont use my phone, and in that "mode" my phone is locked and in standby mode too. U cant use any keys apart from power key which brings my phone from "stand by" mode to normal mode?!
Is this way safe? To me, looks ok.
I think my rom is 1.93.0.0. this is original phone rom (not cooked one)?
Any suggestions/advices?

start-settings-system-power-key lock-> check "do not lock buttons" , and after this you could use my instructions on the first post to lock your Diamond with style...
If you want, I could provide you an registry tweek that will lock your phone automatically when the light is dimed. To unlock, you should press a softkey "Unlock device".
Or you could tell me what is your more convenient scenario for lock and unlock and maybe we could help you!

I have two questions regarding mapping the Manila key using registry...
1. Currently I map the right key to psShutXP to switch the display off... However I have to press two times to switch the screen off... Any better way (e.g. map to other program) to get it done?
2. In WM's Today, there's a plugin named (sort of) "Device lock" which can lock the screen. Is it possible to map the Manila key to trigger it?
Of course by setting lock the screen when screen off will results in a combination of 1 & 2... but I'd like to know if the above 2 problems could be solved
Thanks~
Hi, im quite new to the Touch Diamond Pro. Is there a program that displays on the main screen a button to lock the Touch pro (Raphael) ?
I found some programs to turn and it locks, to take out the styles and put it back in it locks, but nowhere a simple program that had a button (for instance next to the time...) that displays a lock icon, wich is pressed and the Diamond is locked.
Hope someone can help me. Thanks
The default Windows Mobile home screen(Today screen with TF3D turned OFF) has an option for this under Settings>Today>Items.
Don't know about similar option/program when TF3D is ON.
Hold the end key for 3 seconds and you should get a menu including a lock option. You can set this program to automatically lock without showing the menu.
The program that makes this work is Windows\Endkey.exe so you can assign this program to your left soft key for quick access.
