Is it possilbe to use MP3 Files as Ringtones for the Qtek9090/MDAIII? And if it is possible, please let me know how
Thx Rex
No but you can use WMA which are better anyway. Just download the WMA covertor free from MS windows Media Player down load page to convert them
Yes you can, Its old news
Yes it is possible, as long as your using a version with windows media player 10. You need to copy whatever mp3s you want to use to the \windows\rings folder. Alternatively if your using an updated version of Photo Contacts then you can leave the mp3s where they are an assign users specific mp3 ringtones
Yes you can just put this file in your PDA and instal it.

Thanks! Works with my XDA IIs!
If you install NetFront3, you have mp3 tones in call.
got win med 10, installed the cab, copied the mp3s to the rings forlder and although I can see them, I don't hear them. weird
sam-man - I installed that, and did a soft reset. I get mp3 files listed now, but when I attempt to play 'em, I just get "beep" every 4 seconds or so. Any tips?
dude just get yourself a free Windows Media Encoder from MS. It takes seconds to convert them and if you pick the PPC profile it will make them nice and lound as well.
thks mate, seacrhing for it for quite long time.

hey guys
I wanted to know if it was possible to transfer the songs i save from youtube to my phone..
i have tried changing the file extension but does not seem to work
I really want to add songs to my phone without having to spend anymoney
anyone got any info?
Thank You.
Chris
Yep. I don't know what program you use to take the music from Youtube. I use Free Youtube to MP3 Converter 3.1.1.1. by DVDVideoSoft.com( think I got it from CNet). Anyway, you save or tranfer the file into one that is monitored by Media Player. Open Media Player, if it isn't there try updating the library. After that hook up your phone and Sync it. Done deal! PS- You have to have the file you get from Youtube in a format Media Player can play(mp3,wav,wma,etc.)
thanks man...got the files on my phone...only problem is they dont go to the windows media library..i put them on my storage card, and have to listen to each one individually to my phones windows media player
does anyone know how to put music thats on itunes one the music player of a hero i tried but when i go to play the sng it says that it doesnt play this file type
I use a program called double twist on my mac. It's not great but it gets the job done. I think it supports Windows now too.
Could also bee cause your music is all aac files and Idk if the hero will play those. Google it. If not you'll have to convert your library to mp3 or a compatible type.

The only way I know of would be to burn an audio CD and then rip it with your computer as an MP3 or similar format the Hero music player can support. The audio format of iTunes is a protected format and without some unique software tricks you cannot directly import these files into another player.
I use itunes agent....double twist does not seem to sync all songs at times, it is quite haphazard for me
You could drag and drop the music from the folder on your computer to the Music folder on your sd card, that's usually what I do, and it works a little better for me than a sync program.
I've used doubletwist and it always syncs really rally slow for me. I love the doubletwist app on android, but the desktop app is terrible for me. When you put the music on your sd card whatever music app you use should read it and load out into your library automatically.
That Being said, do you know what file format up have?

thats how i was doing it and it wouldnt play when i went to my music player on the phone and i found a program called salling and it syncs it but doesnt sync the album that wont play in the first place so i think its the file type that keeping it from playing
If your music is protected then you wont be able to drag and drop it on your sd card. As far as i know, iTunes no longer sells their music that way. Ctrl+i (Cmd +i for mac) will tell you what format your music is in. Under summary it will say either "Protected AAC Audio File" or "Purchased AAC Audio File". I have no problem with the Purchased files but I do with the protected. Hope this helps!

Any idea if its possible to convert the protected aac to a purchased aac format? I ask because aac is usually much smaller than mp3 and before I knew that aac would not play on most players I let iTunes convert all my mp3's to aac in order to save space.
Just a heads up for anyone else new to WP7. You can add custom ringtones to your HD2 WP7 using Chevron Custom Ringtone Manager.
Your phone has to be Chevron unlocked for this to work. Also, your mp3s need to be converted to WMA 48KHz format. This can be done easily with Microsoft Expression Encoder 4.
I've shown here how to convert using this tool:
Once converted, you'll find the WMA file in C:\Users\xxx\Documents\Expression\Expression Encoder\Output. Now run the Chevron Ringtone manager, browse to your WMA file, and click Build Ringtone XAP.
Then install the XAP the same way as you do with any other. I recommend Tom XAP Installer.
For alarms and alerts, there's an two extra steps involved. You must rename your WMA file to Alert-01.WMA (or which ever one you want to replace). Note your original one will be overwritten.
Once you have copied it to your phone, you need to install TouchExplorer. use this to move your Alert-01.WMA file from My Documents/My Ringtones into /Windows.
------------------------------------------------
An alternative is to sync your music with Zune, and then use TouchExplorer to copy one of your MP3s from My Documents/Zune/Content/xxx folder and put it into your My Ringtones folder. This works too
I've tested both methods and they both work great.
If you have any problems with it, just ask and I'll try to help.
Its also possible to copy mp3 files to My ringtones folder, I checked it by copying a random mp3 file from zune folder =)
I wonder if you can add extra alert or alarm files by just using higher numbers instead replacing the files? Didnt try this yet because it takes ages to load the windows folder...
Why the hell did MS use the folder to store all the files without any sub folders =S
Does the mp3 work as a ringtone? I didn't think this worked.
yep using it without a problem =)

It's tricky if you dont know where to look.
Using Touch Epxplorer, browse to My Documents > Zune > Content > 0100
The files will have different filenames. Just find the one you want as a ringtone by playing it (double tapping it). THen rename it and copy it to the My Ringtones folder

Thanks for the fast reply
That is the problem, all the files is numbered with no original names.
Is there a way to go around this ?

Unfortunately not...that's just the way that Zune transfers files when you sync...it does this with all files.

I had this problem too.
You can just delete the ringtone from the ringtone folder using Touchxplorer. (My Documents\My Ringtones)
When using Microsoft Expression Encoder 4, do not select WMA Professional. I did this in error and although the ringtones sounded good on the computer, the phone played them horribly.
Select WMA, then 48kHz.
If you select WMA and 48kHz is not an option, convert to WMA Professional at 48kHz, then import the new file and convert to WMA at 48kHz. Worked like a charm for me!
YES YOU CAN USE MP3 FILES AS RINGTONES BUT IF YOU WANT TO ADD ALERTS OR ALARMS YOU HAVE TO CONVERT THESE TO WMA FILES & RENAME THEM TO Alert-01 or alarm-01 in windows folder.

There's no need for the CAPS. And I also already explained this in the first post.
Anyone know where alerts are found (ie SMS/email alerts) would be good to change these too, I assume it would work using the same method (TouchXplorer)
I did the alternative method of syncing with ZUNE and did exactly what was said on the post and i was able to do it BUT when i set it for my ringtone it does not want to play.? I tried several songs from ZUNE(All i can listen to) and have the same problem. I can hear them before i do the method but after that there is no sound when i select it for my ringtone. I do have everything installed as the post says. Is there anything I'm doing wrong?? Any help please!!!

All you need to do is make sure the file is mp3 or wma less than 1mb and 40 seconds long. right click the file you want to transfer go to proerties then click details go to genre and type Ringtone click ok then transfer to your phone via zune and it will be in your ringtones under custom.
Seems a lot to do but it is easy good luck and give it a try.

Zune was being really picky about what it would add for me. I had a mp3, Titled GalvanizeRing set to 38sec and it wouldnt add it until I changed the name, seemed to be clashing with Galvanize (chemical brothers song). It would say it synced it, but it would not show up in custom. Anyway once I renamed it it synced and showed up.

You can used zune to sync songs you like, but you need edited it before sync to you windows phone, open the zune, choese the collection--music,find out the song you want it used as a ringtone, right click, choese edit, at the gener, input ringtone, ok, then sync to you windows phone, good luck to you!
I used Zune to transfer some MP3s as ringtones and they worked a treat. I also used Touch Xplorer to change a synced filename to Alert-xx and copy to windows directory so I could have some custom alert tones.
They learned something thank you
