I am running the stock Tilt ROM and was playing around with my PTT button the other day. I decided to enable PTT and ever since then there is a permanent icon (blue circle for inactive; happy face for active) in the title bar for PTT. It is annoying because it permanently takes up the icon space for notifications such as text or email. Is there any way to get rid of this? Thanks for any answers.
For great justice...
Firstly, Are you comfortable mucking around with the registry? (Although, it's been a while since I played with PTT. Start in the windows folder & see if there's anything in startup. Then check:
HKLM\Services\PTT
HKLM\Services\PTT\ButtonPressLaunchValue
HKLM\Services\PTT\ButtonHoldLaunchValue
Otherwise, get yourself a copy of SK Tools & use the trial (or buy it; It's great tool) & kill the service in the "Services" Section of tools.
Then search XDA-Dev on how to assign something that's actually useful to replace the wasted PTT button

With Kaiser not having a transreflective screen, I've really been missing the ability to map a key to toggle the screen brightness like I could with Vijay Lumos III on Hermes.
I don't use the HTC Home screen, but today I activated it and played with it some. I found that it has an app preloaded in the Launcher tab that toggles the display in 4 steps from Low to Hi and back. Using the add function I can see this application as "Adjust Backlight" along with most all of the other programs loaded on the unit.
I would like to create a shortcut link to this app and then map a hardkey to do this function, however for the life of me I can't find this program! I'm hoping that there is some kind soul that can help me locate this prog so that it can be used outside of the HTC Home Screen. I've been looking for a couple of hours and it's got me whipped.
In \Windows I found HH_Launcher Backlight.png which is the icon for the app.
Hopefully I'm not the only one who whould like to have this capability
bump.
Looking to do something like this as well.
found WkTASK (http://soft.photoracer.net/docs/wktask_en.html) which is a nice utility and is supposed to have a brightness and volume control. Everything BUT the brightness and volume control work on my tilt however.
Here's what I've done to work around this... using AE Button Plus, I've mapped the center dpad button ("enter") with standard behavior on single click, and I've mapped a press/hold to the "backlight" application. This brings up the app in settings that lets you set the brightness levels for "on battery" and "powered". Since it wakes up with the "on battery" section active, you then just have to use the "left/right" dpad buttons to turn the brightness up or down (and down/up flips between the battery and on power settings). Not quite a one-click fix, but a click of the center button, and a few of the right button will brighten your screen fairly easily.
The trick here was that AEBPlus didn't want to map directly to the backlight.exe file. When telling it to map the press/hold to an application, it simply didn't appear in the list (even thought I could see it in the directory). Perhaps it hides system files to keep you from accidentally doing something bad. So I had to make a shortcut to backlight.exe, then map AEBPlus to the shortcut.
Kind of a clunky workaround, but it works.
Is it possible to remove to whole bar at the bottom of the home screen? Mine has links to contact & calender, but I just want to remove it since I dont use them at all...
Any ideas?
soft key applet
you can use a program called soft key applet, which is downloadable from the xda ftp site, not sure if you can simply turn these off, but you can assign different programs to them.
I use dcinobar, you can just click the .exe to enable / disable it. I have mine placed in the \windows\startup folder works perfectly.

nice post, def. gonna try this one out when I get the chance as I never use the on screen soft keys anyway,(plus I know I ain't the only one who can't stand the fact that the home screen plugin from HTC doesn't allow one to scroll down the today screen in landscape mode)and a little extra room is welcomed with open arms. I'm guessing you can still use the soft keys if you want to by pressing the hw buttons on the device right????
cheers
Heres the trick..
It LOOKS a lot better. It makes more of your image available to use.
But wither or not you use the buttons doesnt even matter, because when at the today screen, even if you press those buttons they still work. I use mine all the time, but I dont like the clutter, but it doesnt matter. I just remember what buttons do what, since they still work.
Im adding this to my newbie thread
Thanks!!
This gives the homescreen just a bit more room.
Another nice mod is to remove the iconset for the unlock/com man/etc located above this bar. I used the regedit method using total commander- simply delete the following from your registry:
\\HKLM\INIT\LAUNCH92
This is the key that launches the tray application at boot (To re-enable create the registry key above with the value TrayAp.exe)
Have fun!

Actually I found the tray icons very useful and actually added my own tray from batterstatus. One touch activation of any of the radio's and various programs makes using the tray very efficient. Plus you can access the tray without even touching the screen so its a win-win in my eyes.
Regarding Neptunes' first post at the top,
"(plus I know I ain't the only one who can't stand the fact that the home screen plugin from HTC doesn't allow one to scroll down the today screen in landscape mode)"
I have spent days looking for a fix/patch for this. Is not having the scroll feature in landscape mode the final answer on this one?
Thanks guys!
Scroll
Go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\HTC Home and change the type to 4.
Poweroff and poweron.
Thanks, exactly what i need.
Hello
I am a new owner of an att tilt. I believe it is the same as the tytnII. I am looking for two cabs to install on my phone.
1) a cab that lets me assign a button to switch between vibrate, silent, and ring. I found vibra switch, but it does not include silent.
2) a cab or program that allows me to assign a call log feature to a button. I use the call log quite frequently on my old phone.
Thank you for anyone that can give a newbie a suggestion
Adam
both of those can easily be accessed without cabs.
1- if you have the htc home screen, just press on the symbol that looks like a phone with a music symbol beside it, and it'll give you the option of switching profiles
2- just click the green talk button and then press up on the dpad
want the button press
Thank you for the response.
I have not tried htc homescreen yet. It appears to have a large clock and a tab system of the today screen that I am not fond of. Am I able to leave the today screen basically like it is with that program?
Also I want to be able to map these functions to a button. The reason for this is for easy access while driving. I feel a button press and using the jog wheel is a lot more accurate and requires less attention.
Thank you

Hi all,
I recently added a battery bar program called Batti2.1. It is a really great program and i like it a lot. There is, however, one small bug...
When using the program it remaps the Calendar soft key to "Notification". Rather it does not remap it but always displays the "Notification" word. I guess this is so because it gives me a setting asking me if i want the battery indicator in the top bar (which is what i want). When i click on the notification icon it gives me detail about the battery etc. When i am done and click on hide, it goes back to saying "Notification".
When i recieve an sms or missed call, it then resets the soft key back to the original "Calender" and does not come up with the "Notification" key i usually get when i have a missed call or sms notification.
Is there a registry setting to disable the batti program's notification icon or am i stuck with this for good (so long as i have the program installed)??
Has anybody else used this program? Had this same problem? It is a really good piece of software and does not affect anything else.
Can anybody help please. I have included screenshots and attached the batti file incase anyone is interested in looking at this useful program.
yep...that happens...i remember when i used that program...get...um...damn i cant remember the name of the program i used..

Wow... that is annoying. Nice program, but I see your dilemma.
Whenever there's a notification (such as wi-fi detected), the left soft key is remapped to it. PocketPlayer does that on mine. I don't mind because I can use the today screen plugin to access the calendar.
Use VistaHide battery gauge instead.
Thanks to those who replied.
Tinkering around with the program i discovered a solution. In settings option set the following settings:
<PLEASE SEE IMAGE CAPTURE NUMBER 3 IN THE ATTACHMENTS>
I then click ok and hide the diolog box (hide button). The notifiaction and icon on the top bar are gone. However, there is a small bar right on the top of the top bar with graduations along it. This is the battery bar and each graduation represents 5%. When you tap this bar once, the notification box comes up and displays all the info. When you tap on hide, it all goes away. No more remapping.
Thanks to those who tried to help out.
batti 2.4 is out but the sounds portion doesnt work on the touch pro ... plays the sounds at random rimes
http://code.google.com/p/batti/
very nice work...
perfect for my touch pro.. i didn't check the sounds part, but i'm not interested right now..
i'd like to have a button in programs tab to open the view information page... can someone give me some help?
respect!
I'm looking for a task manager that I can launch with a hard button with the help of AEButton,
in which I can scroll though my open programs using the scroller not the touch screen and close each in turn or close all.
I've tried a lot and they all either;
- They dont have the facility to use the buttons as a scroller, touch only.
- They cant be launched to open using a hardware button, as in the program launches but all I get is the little cross, dot button appear in the top right of my today screen, not actually open the task manager.
- Or they dont have the facility to close all apps.
there must be a simple little program that does this, and im starting to feel like i've tried them all...
I can distantly remember using a version on RomEOS 1.2.1 but cant find any reference to it, it allowied me to 'check' each program and close them, and launched as an actual program, rather than enabling a cross on my today screen. And it wasn;t HTC Taskmanager.
Any suggestions you lovely people? I think one handed PPC use is they way to go and this is frustraiting me.
Install SPB Pocket Plus
Soft reset
Go to Settings-Buttons
Assign "Alt-Tab" on any button you want.
Press button, see all open prg's and scroll with the wheel to the one you want, press wheel and you are there.
Hi,
ever tried WkTask (freeware) ?
Quickmenu does the trick for me. Much better than WKTask. Also freeware. X button closes the app, gives a PC feel to menus and you don't ever have to use stylus.
Thanks for the replies
tried both WKTask and Quickmenu, but evenually settles on HandySwitcher, turned out to be a bonus that you can customise the colours, since i have a white background and couldn't read the white text on the menu.
Success!
Why wouldn't you use the task switching part of phoneAlarm?
You can set the default function to the switcher and be managing open tesks with 2 button pushes.
I second Quickmenu. Once you click the exe once it'll auto start after soft resets. Goto the settings and customize the startmenu the way you want. I set mine up to have Running programs first and that set to be shown as submenu and then it allows you the close one or close all feature, quickmenu popout second, then a break and then program, settings, and office folders all set to submenus and then my regular programs as links below. I can control it all with my finger or with the jog dial. Retains your windows TSK theme and if you set it to replace windows start menu it is like the other never existed. Excellent program and very lightweight. To fix the text issue I use UI Tweaker. Also helps me match the color to my TSK better. Just my personal preference.
