Anyone use a car/bluetooth radio - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo Accessories

Any luck synching it to the Athena/Advantage/whatever?
Thinking about replacing the one in my car for sirius/bluetooth. Mostly interested in playing music from the Athena via bluetooth instead of casette adaptor.

Hi polstein,
I'm using a Pioneer DEH P75BT ( http://www.pioneer.de/de/products/archive/DEH-P75BT/index.html )it works perfectly. I'm using the Ameo microdrive and the a2dp functionality as a big CD-Changer. Make sure, that you have the right bluetooth configuration (for instance use Shaps "advanced configuration tool, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317070 )and set BT settings to sample rate 48000 and booth BitPool Entrys to 58. If you have mp3 files with 256 kb/s you will have a very, very good sound quality.
I use a module from Dietz ( http://www.dietz.biz/ ) for the steering wheel interface of my car. So I control my ameo (volume, skip up and down) via this interface and the radio, thats really cool. I'm using the mortplayer (last beta!).
The handsfree set works also very well, only the transfer of the contacts and numbers from Ameo to the Radio is time consuming (Only works contact for contact). I've used a test-version of jetware http://www.jetwaremobile.com/index.htm to tranfer all my contacts (140 contacts) in 3 minutes to the Pioneer.
Last Advice: I asume that the antenna of the ameo is on the upper side of the case, so it's very important to install the ameo higher in the car as the radio, otherwise you will hear this typical noise of a mobile phone in your loudspeaker.
Regards
Andreas

A2DP does the XDA2i support it and other questions

Ok ive got an xda2i and mini s.
I have tomtom on the 2i (not changed it over to the mini s cos i like the larger screen) I want to get a stereo head set for use on the motorbike so i can listen to music, also want to be able to listen to tom tom comands. When a call comes in take the call as i pull over. (saves takin off the helmet).
Does the xda2i support A2DA?? its standard UK spec with only the O2 upgrades from them.
Now using the jabra 205 headset i have at the mo, i know i can play music (poor quality) and have tomtom run at the same time. Thing is when a call comes in the music and tomtom mute and the call comes through (which is good) but when the call ends the music and tomtom revert to the xda2i. i have to press the button on the headset to switch back.
Is there also a good voice dial for the xda2i.
So if the xda2i does support a2da will it do what i want?? I know that if it will ill have to strip the system and fit it to the helmet (doesnt bother me if it will work as im an electronics engineer)
You can download the audio bluetooth from Broadcom via google (Broadcom Corporation BT-PPC AV is the download you may want to check out).

Can A2DP
XDA 21 support A2DP
gone to that link... thanks. ive dloaded the file but have no idea what to do with it. im serious i have no idea at all. i need complete idiot guide for it.. post in the other location or here, i dont mind
many thanks
cool i got the file installed and have nice clear sound, it switches between a call and wmp BUT if i run tomtom5 the music starts to drop out.. big gaps and the same happens with the tomtom comands. this happens to tomtom even if i dont have wmp running.
getting fed up with this stuff now. at least with the wired headphones it all works....
Did you install any battery monitoring software...
the xda is from a hard reset, tomtom 5.2 installed, then the A2DP cab. thats it.. not even put on my contacts or anything. totaly clean. then added the BT-Q800 GPS and its little test program which only when run is used to find which com port the gps is running on. used the setting from that to set tomtom correctly.
TT tested with the gps fine.
then added the headset. tested fine.
BUT when i try to have both the GPS and headset working thats when it gives up. i have a feeling its going to be something to do with the bandwidth on bluetooth.
The audio starts to chop up as the GPS is connected. Ive not tried it with the wired gps though

Kaiser and bluetooth / USB car stereos

Has anyone had experience of these?
I was looking at a blaupunkt hamburg car stereo and whilst I can always use USB or 3.5mm aux jack to connect with my kaiser, I would like, if possible, the full bluetooth experience - with the stereo playing music off my kaiser and handling calls as well. I know it will handle the calls part, but what about the music part?
I guess the Kaiser supports BT "headphones", but I wondered if it was possible for a car head unit to pull track listings via BT from a phone, select which track to play etc.
I would really like to be able to have TomTom on the kaiser screen and select what music I want via the car stereo's controls.
Is this possible via BT? I know this unit does that via USB, but I can't seem to work out if track selection is possible via BT. I spoke to some salesmen, but all they quoted at me was "It has Audio Streaming" - I looked that up, but all it said was you could skip track etc - I want to be able to browse playlists on the head unit as well as play, pause etc.
Does BT degrade the quality too much? Would I be better off using the USB port?
depends on if the car stereo supports Stereo over Bluetooth. Go to the bluetooth on your pda, click and hold on the paired stereo and if it gives you the option - you're good otherwise you may need to find another solution.
It's not just stereo over bluetooth (A2DP) I want, it's the ability to browse playlists via the bluetooth device
I don't know of any BT unit that supports playlist browsing -- as I understand it, the AVRCP profile that supports skip, rewind, etc. doesn't support playlists. AFAIK, there's no BT profile for that.
I have a JVC (BT1)unit that can control the music player and stream the music from the Kaiser ,browsing the songs is mot possible
OK, so hard wired it is then.
I am thinking now that maybe BT isn't so wise anyway, I have an active holder, so wires are not a problem really and wires don't cut out randomly or get interference.
Mind you, I just realised that for it to work over USB, the device has to present itself as a mass storage device, which I don't think pocketpc phones do, do they? You need activesync...
Does anyone know if it is possible to run an app on a pocketpc that makes it present itself as a standard usb mass storage device and not an activesync device?
my motorola a2dp bluetooth stereo headphones worked with my unit just fine - they had play/pause/next/prev/volume buttons that worked too - decent sound quality also

You don't necessarily need activesync for this, but you might try Softick Card Export or WM5torage (when someone gets it working on the Kaiser).
I tried the demo of Softick Card Export II and it works, there also appears to be one called WM5Storage on Modaco, but it won't let me download it, I think I need a subscription or something. What is the license on WM5Storage? Can someone send me a copy?
[Edit - heh, was writing this as you posted. So WM5Storage doesn't work on the Kaiser yet?]
This should provide the best possible audio quality - an error corrected usb link to the stereo and also the best functionality - the stereo can browse the phone so you can scroll through lists of your music on the stereo head unit whilst tomtom displays on the kaiser screen

One problem I see with this is that AFAIK, Card Export, when in use, prevents all other access to the card from your pda, therefore your maps on the card would not be accessible to TomTom while you are playing music via USB.
Surur
order of contacts displayed
Does anybody know how I can change the order contacts are displayed on the screen of the car? After I have sync the Kaiser with the BT car device all cantacts were sorted first name / last name. I do want to change that?
Any tip?

You seem to be right on the money mate I got the stereo today, fitted it and got memory access violations when using tomtom and pulling tracks via USB
This is highly annoying, is it not technically possible to overcome this?
You could use smaller regional maps and store them in main memory?
Surur
Yeah, I could I suppose, but annoying - I paid for Western Europe and would like the whole thing on there all the time. You never know - you may go to a stag do, get drunk and wake up in France somewhere!
Persuing other angles at the mo - not got a word back from softick yet as to whether it is technically possible to access SD card via USB and phone at same time, and I have another thread exploring the possibility of an activesync to Mass Storage Device dongle.
We shall see.
I've got a Sony bluetooth unit and (MEX BT2500 or something) and use my Trinity for handsfree, TomTom and streaming music over Bluetooth - Kaiser turns up tomorrow but should be the same.
I use Coreplayer for music, it works great. You choose the music from the phone, but then you can skip tracks from the head unit. Sound quality is similar to using the aux port on the front - never had problems with interference or cutting out.
yeah, at the moment I just use the 3.5mm AUX input on the stereo and use pocket music.
I use "Double Launcher" to remap the internet explorer button - 1 press for tomtom, double press for pocket music - that way I can quickly switch between the two whilst driving by touch alone.
It's pretty good, but I would rather not have to take the map from the screen to select music, especially if you have a passenger who wants to browse available music. Plus the car head unit display is in big glowing letters which are easier to read at a distance. Also, it cuts down on a cable as the USB would cater for charge and audio.
Unfortunately the head unit only does audio for calls not audio streaming anyway, but I wasn't buying it for this as I figured bluetooth audio involved a lossy compression and so degraded quality - not an issue for phone calls but not the best for music, especially when it is already been through MP3 compression.
I got an answer from softick today, and it seems the limitation is imposed by their software. I have argued the case against the limitation, and they seem to be swaying towards giving something a go. Fingers crossed for a solution here.
HELP
Sorry to bring this back from the dead . .
But I am in the middle of purchasing a stereo for my car and want to be able to do a few things . .
1) More than anything i want to be able to stream my Iguidance or TomTom turn by turn directions over my stereo through bluetooth.
2) I want to be able to take calls while still having my directions being played. ( Ie. while driving and being told where to go, if I get a call it will silence the directions and the call will take over. )
3) I want to be able to switch from BT to CD or radio. So if say TomTom tells me, drive for 10 miles, I can switch to radio for a while so i can listen to music and then switch back after some time to get back on track with my directions. What would be even better is if it treated the directions just like a call and allowed me to listen to the radio or cds, and when TomTom decided to talk, it would mute or turn down the radio/cd and play TomTom over it for the moment of " In 2 miles, exit on the right ".
If this is not possible then it isn't really worth it to spend the extra $100 or so on a good headunit with bluetooth. please give me some info or ideas.
(On a side note, if I were to use a BT headset, and had tomtom running, would the commands for turn by turn directions be fed through my BT headset? And would I be able to take calls while still doing this? ) If yes, I may just end up getting a good BT headset and just a nice CD player because of cost.
anyone have any ideas?
please, someone? help me help me

A Good BT stereo Headset!

OK shoot me if this has been said before but too many BT threads to trawl through...
Just want to pass this on.
Just obtained the Sony DR-BT22 Stereo headset and using in conjunction with HTC stock WM6.1 (latest on site) Rom and absolutely perfect!
No skips, loads of Bass and volume.
I advise anyone to try these as they are full Enhanced audio with a BIG buffer and also have integral mike for voice calls.
BLISSS....
(edit, just one prob for me...bought them in US and only supplied with 110V charger there..anywhere else in the world it would be 110-220!! just got a REAL Sony charger today..)
edit..edit I hope you dont forget to go to BT properties and with the stylus, tap and hold the DR-BT22 and select 'Set as Wireless Stereo' everytime you want to hear good audio or you will only get the basic headset mono version peeps!!
Just for the noobs viewing....
Thanks. I'll check them out.
Local Circuit City stocks them and they show a 4.3 rating (out of 5) from users so that seems pretty good.

Enable A2DP and/or headset profile for Tilt...

Hello everyone...sorry for bothering, but I'm so frustrated that I'm about to scream...I really need some help here.
I have an AT&T Tilt (Kaiser) running their standard ROM. I just bought a Motorola H780 bluetooth headset for it. The salesperson said that he knew of some people who connected this model to their Tilts and was able to listen to music through it...and even on earpiece box it says that the H780 supports both the Hands Free and Headset profiles. However, I have not been able to accomplish this: it pairs for normal use (phone calls, etc), but nothing else. The "wireless headset" option is greyed out for me; the earpiece only gives me the option to connect using "Hands Free" profile.
I have looked...and looked...and looked for how to do this. The best I found from Google was for people who have Windows Mobile 5 (I have 6)...and even so, I tried a couple of those registry tweaks. On here, I keep running into countless forums that tell you, not how to enable A2DP, but how to improve it (using modified bitpool value in the registry, etc). Can SOMEBODY PLEASE tell me how in the world to get this working? I would really appreciate it...THANKS!
Well this is how i do it. I downloaded this http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=freeware
that is the page then you get a2dp toggle
and then when my bluetooth is on the the headset is on i then go to this program and double click it and it puts another icon by the bluetooth icon and i get sound that way for my music and also calls still come threw too. I am not saying this is the right way but it works great for me...
bluetooth toggle
bluetooth toggle turns on the headset (single ear normal everyday talking sets) like a speakerphone.
all audio will get directed to it, im, e-mail, meeting announcements.
I had a sony headset model, with 12 talk time, nice because it will eat your battery while on ( tilt and headsets rated for talktime will apply to this ) . my plantronics only does 4 hours, so at lunch or when not in use I charge it and phone via usb cable.
I am in IT and most peaple are ok with me wearing bt headset (plantronics 655) and write me off on the gadget side when I wear it 24/7. In reality I listen to music (10% volume on audiomanager) all day (literally) from my 8 gig card.
I have streaming and resco radio, and podcasts. Mostly I converted my common mp3s to wma to have more on the phone and high audio cd quality is not to be expected over bluetooth. The right rom and radio are very helpful and the ability to tun off screen but still play music are all important or battery will suffer even more. using the stock rom and radio will work, just not a good balance team.
duttys roms and a few others had it included btw. I found a way to use audiomanager 1.2 on the new roms with 1 registry setting change to allow suspend mode.
I use a very simple version of it. I attached it because, I searched a bit to find a link, (still recommended for education on the subject) but didn't find it or in the chefs and mods downloads either.
Thanks to both of you for your responses! I appreciate someone taking the time out to help.
Blinkste21957, I tried your solution and it didn't work...for some reason, it saw my headset as being "unusable" (my term) with regards to headset mode. I don't quite know why; my headset clearly says on the box that it is. (Motorola H780). This is why I think that there must be something missing on my phone that will enable the "headset" option for my earpiece.
Acehole, I tried your solution a while back...but it was with the 8525, not the tilt, and with my (previous) plantronics headset. I was less-than-impressed with the problems I had to deal with last time...but I could give it a whirl again with this phone/headset and see what happens.
If anyone knows of anything else I'm missing in terms of "activating" the headset capabilities of my phone (which I thought was supposed to have A2DP), let me know. I'm just very puzzled why, for an earpiece that supports headset mode, my phone would have that option unavailable.
Actually, I think that it is the phone and not the headset. When I had a nokia I was able to listen to music via my bluetooth with no issues. The tilt will not allow you to do this without the use of a third party application. The following is what many people have used and are using as a work around. BTAudio, BlueMusic, A2DPToggle. Tech soft makes BlueMusic and the A2DPToggle and can be found here: http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=products. Unless one of the bright developers here on XDA takes this on, I fear that it will never truly be resolved.
Thanks ACEHOLE.. I was struggling with my iMate.
Someone on here recommended the Sony DR-BT22 some time ago. I bought a pair and they link up and sound is impressive on the Tilt with Windows 6.1
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8458466&st=bluetooth&type=product&id=1184369168158
I can also control forward and reverse functions of the player with them too.
Bluetooth - especially compatibility - is still one temperamental beast! My car's built-in hand-free made me and the poor guy from AT&T a believer. They can plaster A2DP, HSF, HDP, ESP, JMDP, whatever on the box and it it means squat as to whether it will work or not. Only ones that do are manufacturer-to-manufacturer....sometimes.
Mack
If you have WM 6.1, and if you have a headset with the A2DP profile (NOTE this is not the same as the "headset" profile) then you can listen to music without any problem. If you don't have both, then you need to mess with the software add-ons mentioned earlier in this thread .
As for me, I got the excellent Jabra BT8040 and it works great with My Kaiser with stock 6.1. Only about $30 too.

A2DP Windows Media Player Problem HELP

First I would like to say thanks to everyone on this site I have found helpful info on everything so far....
The problem I am having is as follows, I use my phone for almost everything, as I am sure most of y'all do too. But I also use it for everything in my car, I only have a A2DP stero in the car, no cd etc etc... I stream all my music thru the phone (AT&T Fuze) run TomTom etc... the problem I am having that I didn't have with the Tilt is that when I press the next/back etc buttons it automaticlay brings WiMP to the front and hides TomTom, or other Media Players I may be using. This is really annoying, I mean going 75mph down the highway I can't just reach up there and click close everytime n the switch back to TomTom.... any help would be much appriciated.....
bump bump bump
I hate the way media player hijacks my bluetooth a2dp headphones when I want to use it with pocket music or coreplayer
pocket music has a plugin that overrides wmp's ad2p control. found this through dr. google
http://www.conduits.com/products/player/plugins.asp
I am having the same exact problem. It is extremely frustrating! This is the only thing i have not been able to fix on my Fuze and it is driving me nuts! I have tried the stock ATT rom, various cooked roms, and am currently using HTC rom 5.05.405.1 WWE with radio 1.11.25.01. I have also tried multiple BT Stereo devices including Moto T505 and Gold Lantern mbsh-c3.2 having same results on both. However, i have noticed that occasionly it will function correctly allowing me to play/pause prev/next without tomtom losing focus. This is completely random and i am unable to reinact this on demand. If you find out anything else, please let me know.
Also having this problem
Also having this problem.
I'm using "A2DP Toggle" in combination with "auto a2dp manager" to auto connect my HTC touch HD to my car stereo. This works fine.
Then, in a perfect world I would like to start pocket player instead of media player when i press "next" on my car stereo.
Then once I've started tomtom and I press next again to go to the next track TomTom should stay on top. Or even better show my pocket player playlist for 5 seconds and return to tomtom.
