Hey everyone,
Is there a good program out there you guys can recommend to convert DVD's and other movies on a computer to a size that fits well on our Tilt screens? I know ClodeDVD Mobile will work but it's a tad pricey ($55).
Are there other alternatives out there that cost less that do a good job?
Check this out. Any Video Converter. Converts all types of video formats. Also has output option for psp or Ipod, which I'm sure would also be suitable for use on a kaiser. Enjoy the open-sourced goodness:
http://lifehacker.com/software/downloads/download-of-the-day-any-video-converter-windows-218253.php
I use this one
Code:
http://www.pocketdivxencoder.net/
I use Mediacoder for most of my video transcoding needs.
http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/
More open source goodness....
"Super File Converter" is another good freebie.
One other option, rarely mentioned, is this:
If you're on a Windows PC and the file is compatible, Windows Movie Maker can be used, not only to trim and edit your vid, also to make it suitable for your Kaiser.
Once you've finished editing (or not), you go to "save movie file" and choose the "other options", one of which is "Video for Pocket PC (Full screen 218 kbps)".
Save it onto your hard drive, then drag it over to your device.

Pocket Divx doesn't work? can it nor read directly from the CD?
CloneDVD Mobile, works very well, updated often;
http://www.slysoft.com/en/clonedvd-mobile.html
I use PocketDivx, it works well..
but I've also got Aplus DVD Ripper that works as well, but it does cost money.
Try the trial version and see if it works for you
It has several options to rip the dvd to, PPC is one of the choices
from their site:
"it also able to convert almost DVD to Apple iPod MP4 files, Apple iPhone MP4 files, Apple TV MP4 files , Youtube's Video, flv video , Sony PSP MP4 files, Cell phone 3GP files, Zune files, Pocket PC files , PDA files, Xvid files etc, So you can enjoy your DVD movies in your portable media player."
it works for me, but it does cost $40

Me too - very user friendly.
SPB mob DVD+ coreplayer = driver issue solved ?
I tested at least 5 rippers.
SPb wasthe best and the fastest.
ripping a dvd to 25fps Xvid format with a bitrate of 499 results in FLAWLESS playback on coreplayer 1.2.2.
i got no lag, perfect Q image and sound.
this said, i more and more believe that the original file being converted is the main reason of having lag and blaming it on missing HW accelaration.
Don't get me wrong. 3D support will certainly still improve, but playing a full dvd seems not a problem anymore.
other tips; free enough RAm, disbale any virus scanners or other soft running in the background.
This is the coolest bit of software about for WM devices.
Convert any dvd avi flv, anything to watch on your mobile.
I made these two vids on my Kaiser and then used SPB DVD to convert and send up to YouTube, check the quality and the framerate, keeping up with that rapid hand movement is difficult!

Anyone else used this software to convert files back from the phone?

Is fantastic isnt it? i used too the DVD Catalyst GT another one good ripper.
I haven't tried that one, I will give it a go.
so i woould like to convert hd films(mkv container) into dovx or mp4 to watch on my diamond(of course i will change resolution to 640x480), i am not sure what program do i need to do this, also i am not sure what bitrate to use(600 enough??) and what format is better divx or mp4??
also i have some divx films is it better to change them into mp4(again what bitrate and aspect ratio??)?
thx
Movie converters....
Have a look here... there are loads of solutions.
what about codecs and bitrate and aspect ratio???
now i am using xilisoft video converter
I just dump the complete 600MB-700MB. DVD rip into the phone and play it as is with Core Player. No conversions or resizes.
Very good quality. Very good.
Greets.
so you just rip them into divx and copy them into diamond and than wathc?? what about subtitles?!?

Dont use subtitles so I dont know.
Just rip the DVD and dump the ripped file into Internal as is.
I use Coreplayer to play and it works awesomely.
For converting DVD's Spb Mobile DVD is a really functional converter. I don't know if it still has that audio bug in Vista, but it works great on XP.
For other video files use Coreplayer (1.3 is the latest version), consider it as the VCL player for the PC (if I may compare).
i have coreplayer 1.2.5 not sure how much better 1.3
i use vista and i have some dvd-r at home but when i rip them ant than put them on diamond i have black flags at the botom and up(probably aspect ratio problem?)
1.3 doesn't differ much from 1.25. And you might wanna change the zoom to "stretch to screen". Pixel aspect ratio is best on "auto". Be sure to put the video output to "qtv display" and enable the "TytnII driver mode". I got every movie going flawlessly on my MDA IV. (Maybe some frame drops on the 1st 30 seconds but rewind and enjoy the video...)
it is enabled and i also use stetch to screen but there is stil black flags at the botom and up?!?!
and i cannot get why i cannot convert hd films into sd(640x480) films?!?

I'm using SmartMovie, which is the only player for WM with subtitle support as far as I know. It comes with its converter on the PC side. See Lonely Cat Games web site for details.
Hey guys i did a couple searches and really didnt find to much info..Im just wanting to know threw trial and error what converter did you use for the best playback from a xvid/divx avi to Mp4. i have used alot of them and there is always issues. Also The player is def important, is cinema the best?
I think the playback codecs are a lot more important than the player. With that said, I use Combined Community Codec Pack along with Media Player Classic. You could go with VLC for full, out-of-the box codec support too, but the interface is almost an OS itself and I'm a minimalist.
For encoding, I use and preffer (and so do many others) SUPER © encoder:
www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
well i have used super to convert 4 differnt ways but the G1 doesnt even detect the movies. Is there something im missing? what settings should i choose?

Ya i did follow that but for some reason no matter what i always get an error. I have all the codec's installed, i think, is there a windows 7 codec pack? Also the video is an xvid avi.

Another good one but it cost $25

Most codec's are packed into windows 7 now. You can always update your divx codec. There's another program I use at home called DVD Fab Platinum that works good to.
DVD Jon has his Doubletwist "iTunes Replacement" app out.. It takes all the guess work out just a litlle clunky on the interface...
Before that i used handbreak, with the old ipod settings (and a little tweeking) works great and only takes about 15 min for a 700mb avi...
So im new to Android, I absolutely love my Streak 7. I'm now trying to watch movies on it that I've ripped from DVD's . the Program I'm using for the actual rips is Handbrake on Linux.
The default settings are "OK" but I'm really looking for the optimal settings for video and sound, while still keeping a minimum size.
What I'm looking for:
1. NO black bars on videos (i want to use the whole screen)
2.Minimize the size as much as possible (not the biggest thing in the world)
If anyone else is using handbrake to put DVD's on your streak, What settings are you using?

Have you tried using the "iphone 4" format" on Handbrake?- I used it last time I ripped Guilliver's Travel(paid for DVD but converted to mp4 to view dell) - looks sooo good on Dell Streak 7
Thanks! ill definitely try that next time I rip a dvd and post back here with results.
Sent from my Dell Streak 7 using XDA Premium App
downoad mobo media player with latest code tech for arm ...use this to play your mp4 very nice...
Great advice! Thanks
So ripping with the setting at iPhone worked wonders, and the Mobo player works great as well. The mobo player allows screen rotation and also gives you the option to fill the screen(which is what i was looking for)
Rockplayer works well, also.

I don't use handbrake to rip or convert, but I do have some advice.
To remove black bars, keep the same aspect ratio. Make sure to make it cut from the top and bottom, or sides, to make it fit. Not to stretch it. Since the screen is not your typical 4:3 or 16:9, you will need to use a custom resolution.
Be careful with bitrates - too high and you take more memory than necessary. Too small the loss becomes noticable. Using proper bitrates will save you alot of headache about filesize and quality - just find the best balance.
For the audio bitrate, try 128kbps stereo. 128kbps is the quality of a listenable MP3 - noticeable differences from a CD or DVD, but still good enough to use.
