Better screen for my SX66 - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Are there any better screens for SX66? Because i have awful screen, it's not contrast

Better screen? im clueless...
LCD(physical) Screen? or Home/Today Screen?
what do you mean by it's awful? and it's not contrast? the colors?
please explain your problem in detail, you might get some pointers.

i mean LCD
>>and it's not contrast? the colors?
YES YES!

hmm... if that's the case.
havent found anything yet about changing the LCD from QVGA to VGA yet.
i think one suggested if we can change LCD to OLED.
i also want to change it. but that remains to be seen and proven.
i'd like to take apart my BA but i can wait till it runs a lifetime in me.
i love my BA so much that i wont touch it or open it up until it's "sick"
But i will try to find something.

we have not found the solution to that yet.
Why does the bootscreen need to look pretty? Look away as you do a hard reset, if you can't bear it!
I don't think this would be very high on my priorities!

Wallpapers that we like!

What is your favourite wallpaper? I've had varying experiences with wallpapers I've used on the Hero, some look good some don't.
What wallpapers do you use both for the lock screen and the home screen? This is my current lock screen wallpaper:
And my homepage wallpaper is from Vista:
Maybe we could all post/share images of our wallpapers which we think work rather well? I've also found that a plain black background looks pretty good on the homescreen too.
I use these.
If anyone wants the full jpg pm your email.
I took these photos. Views from my window btw.
Currently using these ones (as attached).
Also attached a shot of how my home screen looks with the 1st wallpaper.
There are some great ones here :

What resolution are we actually supposed to be using for our wallpapers? Am I right in thinking its 620 x 480?
I know the screen res is only 320 x 480, but theres 7 parts to this screen, heard a roumer that they had 50px moved when sliding from one side to the other (150px on normal android)
Just found out its 640 x 480, close
You can use any size image, when you choose a wallpaper you are presented with a box which you can change the dimensions of to have it scaled correctly. The actual aspect ratio would have to be equivalent to 640*480 to avoid having to crop part of it though.
@Huey85
It appears from your third picture that you have fitted you Hero with a protective case. Would you mind telling which one it is? Thanks
Sorry for the off-topic
Love the martien one thxz....and do any of you know what kind of flower the second one is....maybe a lotus ??

Hello guys! U may try the application from market called "wallpapers" made by Mabilo android team. U can find there a lot of categories of wallpapers and u can download and save in to your phone if u desire.
I can't wait to get my hero on the 11th....can't we use the g1 wallpapers..?
Here's my lock screen (default size 1920x1200):
I needed to choose a dark background due to the default white font from Drizzy's lock screen.

Much appreciated.

Larger resolution I guess, because unless your monitor is 728 x 483 or even close to that the picture is going to be stretched and blured, Might be alright for a phone's resolution but not PC
I think if the picture was streched, it wouldn't be so bad. Maybe just me.

Anything a bit bigger really, around 1024x768. My screen resolution is rather large but that sort of size should be ok when stretched.
Good luck getting it. Your best bet is to contact either AP or the author of the photo, and I don't think they would let it go too easily. lol
Lol, worth a shot. I've emailed the author and will get back to you.
In the meantime, if anyone's found a bigger one, you know where I'll be

How to do Sceen test +Banding on Windmill wallpaper?

I would like to know how can i check the screen of my new phone for dead pixel, patches etc.
I have already tried *#0*# method, but i want to check with light colors.
Some apps are there in market, but i dont think they support HD resolution.
Next, i can see horizontal lines across screen whenever i use the live wallpaper "Windy weather", its the one with windmills. The lines are especially visible during daytime in the wallpaper... so is it just a problem due to lower resolution of the wallpaper?
I havent seen any other color problem yet, except the above.
Look long and hard enough and you will find something that bothers you.
I'd say just enjoy the device.

I agree with you and i am happy wid my purchase, i just wonder is this because of low-res pic or its a minor banding.
Update: I am also finding horizontal lines in the Sky when playing original angry birds...

Day one with HTC one

Hi all,
I'm coming from and SGSII and I'm in the process of trying to setup my One how I like it. There's a few things troubling me though.
-The blacks of the screen don't seem especially black and it seems there's no way to adjust the contrast. The whole screen seems a bit flat/grey
-The menus are black text on white, I much prefer the white on black of the SII
-The scroll 'brakes' too quickly as your finger comes off the screen, it's like sliding something on sandpaper as opposed to ice. There's no 'mega scroll' flick
-I've had to download a task manager killer but I cannot end google+, gmail and googlemaps. I don't want them.
-The icons on my SII are a lot better
-I'd like the notification bar to be black
-On the SII I have gps switched off but weather apps still work, with the HTC gps has to be on.
-I'm going to have to root this phone to get adfree aren't?
I'm using nova launcher so a lot of things are similar but those things above are really bugging me. I've googled all of them and had no luck so let me know if I'm missing anything.
Thanks.
I didn't read your whole post but to get white text on black you are going to have to go with an inverted Rom, like d3rp or 42One I am sure there are others but those two come to mind.

Thanks, I might hold off on rooting for a while.
The main thing I wanted to check was that I wasn't missing an obvious settings and that the screen was working properly, it's VERY flat and grey compared to my SII.
Overall it's doing a good job but the screen is going to have to take some getting used to.

This is the difference between AMOLED and LCD. The contrast on the One is pretty much the best available on a phone LCD, but it is still an LCD, and cannot match the black levels of AMOLED.
-The menus are black text on white, I much prefer the white on black of the SII
The menus on the SII are white on black because white is a very expensive color to display, battery-wise, on an AMOLED screen. Inverted roms, or themes, will fix this for you.
-The scroll 'brakes' too quickly as your finger comes off the screen, it's like sliding something on sandpaper as opposed to ice. There's no 'mega scroll' flick
Depends on the app you're using. If you're speaking about within Sense (settings, app drawer, etc) then yeah I guess, but I'm not sure why you would need the long scrolling in such short lists.
-I've had to download a task manager killer but I cannot end google+, gmail and googlemaps. I don't want them.
Uninstall/disable them via settings>apps or kill them with an app.

You had to root your S2 to get that too.

Thanks for taking the time, much appreciated. Much as I feared the about the screen. It's a shame, I do really like OLED. Those are the two big things now, the screen and lack of centre button. It's stupid because most apps now have a black bar at the bottom which takes up about 10% of the screen for the 'options' button. A button would be much better. If it had those two things it would be the perfect phone in my eyes.
Makes sense about the menus, I checked out the 42One rom and it looks pretty good. I spent yesterday getting everything set up so I'm going to wait to root and flash.
The scroll/flick behaviour is a bit different but some lists do have a 'mega-scroll' so that was me I guess, I'd still prefer it if it was a bit looser.
I found the only option was to disable certain apps, I guess I won't be able to get into removing stuff until I root the phone.
Maybe I should have said i don't like the stock icons, I still prefer the SII one but have since downloaded some icon packs so we're all good there.
On my journeys I saw someone had written a little program to guide you through rooting your phone so I'll have to find that again. I'd also like to backup my stock setup in case of warranty issues further down the line.
Thanks again.

You can use the HTC Logo as menu button. But you'd need a custom kernel that supports that.
AMOLED displays are usually very over saturated compared to IPS LCD displays. But IPS will give you a more accurate color and truer whites and blacks.

The HTC logo doesn't have a capacitive sensor, the "logo button" feature actually uses the first row of pixels immediately above the logo as a button.
Not trying to attack anyone here, just want to make sure that the information is explained a bit more.

Yep, it's the tradeoff you made when you picked LCD.
If its any consolation, displaying white on your S2 actually caused the display consumption to go up drastically (sometimes double the power required) while on LCD the screen uses a much more consistent amount of power. The whites on your One -should- appear as truer whites, while yes, the black will be more washed out.

Useful to know, thanks!
Thanks for the input, being brand new to HTC I'm still learning what's available.
Ideally I like Nova so I'd like to keep that. I'd like the general menus to be white text on black BG, I can clean things out with Titanium and stop ads with adfree.
From what I can tell I'm going to need to root the phone and then install a rom.
Are there 'pre-optimized' roms? Are there any Roms which are basically stock except for the colour flip? Can I get 4.3 in there as well? That middle button would be great too. My SII came with swype, I miss that.
I've found instructions on rooting but a little unsure which rom to go for, konfuzion's suggestion of 42One looks ok but I don't know what's out there, supported and up to date.
If you have any more thoughts they're always welcome
I'm gonna need some help on this guys.
I'm in the UK on the EE network, can I download any rom or do I need a specific 'EE' one?
Do I need a rom if I just want superuser privileges and a reversed/inverted menu? (also be able to install titanium backup and adfree)
I think I can handle the rest of it.
Thanks.
Well you most likely have a gsm one so you wouldn't want to flash anything in the sprint one section. And seeing as your gsm i believe there are a few roms over there that are 4.3
