Ok. I've been trying to get this program (DVD to Pocket PC) working properly, with no success.
I downloaded the demo version, and it 'started' to make a 5 minute copy of a DVD. It ripped the DVD, then crashed when attempting to turn the MPG file into a WMV file. I was able to manually convert the file to WMV format, and it ran on the XDA.
The problem is, the program doesn't work anymore. I can't get it to rip ANY more DVD's, not even the same DVD I used initially.
I love the idea of the program, and was really looking forward to buying it if it worked properly. I have a shiny new 512MB SD card just begging to be used.
Does ANYONE out there have the actual, whole version of the program that they can tell me about? I have been burned before buying badly written Pocket PC programs, and don't want that to happen again. If someone can loan me the full version so I can evaluate it, I'd REALLY appreciate it!
I just want to make sure the program works properly. The demo seems to be really flaky.
Thanks.

The demo crashes for me too at the same stage you described, so I uninstalled the damn thing and moved on.
I'm using Win2K, and this may be my problem - the website says XP only. Whatever. Can't be bothered.
I guess this program must work - otherwise, why do they sell it? Crashing halfway through is an obvious bug, no?
I have the full version, running on xp pro, it works flawlessly, I leave a dvd in the drive overnight and in the morning I have a film for transferring to sd or cf card, never crashed on me either.
That's interesting.
I am also using XP Pro, and like I said in the previous post, the program (demo) 'started' ripping the DVD, then promptly crashed at the point when it was supposed to be converting it to WMV. I was highly disapointed to say the least.
I even tried uninstalling the program and reinstalling. The exact same thing occurred.
I'm using the full version on WindowsXP, and it's GREAT!! 8) 8) 8)
I uninstalled it again and reinstalled, and now it's working properly. VERY cool. I think it's worth the $25.00.
I also have the full version of this software, worth every penny
One thing worth mentioning is the Step 2 Only option from the Special menu
If the program doesn't complete the final step of converting to WMV, just select the Step 2 only option and it'll finish off
You can also trick it into converting any mpeg files into wmv by renaming them to DVD.mpg, placing them in root c:\ and running a Step 2 Only
Very useful for TV episodes, as it compresses Simpsons episodes to 30mb
I think I saw this software in PC Magazine. Are you saying that you can download an entire Movie DVD onto your PDA?
Yep,
It compresses a 90minute movie to approx. 128mb
so increase the size slightly for longer films
i've had two 90minute films no problem on a 256mb SD card, and haven't had any issues with slow load time or memory problems
Hope this helps
How do you download the DVD? Can you give me kind of a dumb guys version. I'm a bit new to this stuff.
Also, maybe I can ask you... I can't seem to open images with TIF extensions?
how to make a dvd small enough to fit on your 512MB sd card
http://www.makayama.com/dvdtopocketpc.html
the easist way to open tif is to use
irfanview to change the picture from tif to jpg
otherwise maybe this program does it

This is slightly off the thread, but...
I personally thought that $25 was a bit steep for software that just rips a DVD, and then uses freely available microsoft tools to convert it into a small file. Theres a whole load of free stuff available that will do all this.
Another problem I had with the software is that it is not configurable. The demo 5 minute video I produced had a frame rate of 20 fps. The playback was noticably jerky. I would be prepared to suffer a 25% increase in file size for 25fps.
I would recommend anyone thinking of buying this software to check out the following free tools, to see if you can't get a result as good or better:

I downloaded vTap and loaded it onto the latest HTC Official WM 6.1 ROM and it closes when you press the play button to start a movie.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
try soft reset after installing...u might have to take the Vtap icon off ur home screen also since it puts it there automatically after install/reset...
i installed it a week ago, ive reset many times since then and removed the today icon right away. There just isn't enough room on the today screen for all this stuff!
Anyways, it just crashes when the video starts to play (I don't get to see any video, it crashes right away)

I know this is specifically for vtap, but you can use other, more reliable, methods to watching youtube or any kind of flash video.
vtap was just too much. Quality wasn't that good either compared to tcpmp.

is there any application that works like vTap? Those 2 links are websites. I like programs more then websites for my Pocket PC because of the screen size and overall speed of programs is just faster then websites.
EDIT: The avot mv thing is an app, but its REALLY choppy and it doesn't preserve the aspect ratio (it stretches the video to fit in the screen), but im guessing the choppiness is thanks to those GREAT drivers from HTC.

the avot mv is a program u download to ur device from tht site its similar to Vtap (i like vTap better tho) and the tcpmp player and bundle are also on the other link so u can go directly to youtube and play from there...ur choice...
I have used TCMP w/ flash plugin and i have vTAP on my kiaser right now and it works great... no issues at all. I like its simplicity of use.
When I use Vtap, the quality of the video is really poor.. is it suppose to be like that?
vtap resolution worthless IMO

Hello. I work for Veveo Inc. who provide the vTap service. We have just released a new version of the client which should greatly improve the video quality when playing Youtube, or Metacafe videos.
You can download the latest client by pointing you browser to www.vtap.com and downloading the client.
Here are some details of what is fixed in this release:
http://forum.vtap.com/index.php?topic=4.0
Once you install the client, you will want to enable the DirectPlay option under Tools/Options/Media
Inorder to enable the direct draw option, you will need to install some additional files on your phone. More detals about this can be found in our FAQ #15 - http://forum.vtap.com/index.php?topic=6.0
Please give this a try, and let me know if you see an improvement.
Thanks!
You could also try the new CorePlayer 1.2.1 which has a Youtube viewer in it.
Is there a thread somewhere with instructions on how to install and configure TCPMP with flash bundle? I have tried getting this working on my Tilt with no success.
I'm going to try out CorePlayer in the meantime. Thanks for the suggestion.
This is my first time posting so go easy.
Since getting the Kaiser I have really wanted to be able to stream videos from Youku or Tudou since it has pretty much everything. The TCPMP video loader doesn't seem to be working anymore and the only way I have been able to achieve this is by searching the site for the video I want, copying the link into www.clipnabber.com and then copying the download links into TCPMP. Does anyone know of an easier way, or perhaps is anyone willing to write a program similar to youtubeplay to allow us to do this. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Just wait for the new Opera mobile to come out which supports flash?
Then you can go directly to youku or tudou websites and play whatever you want.
have you tried skyfire?
its not like tcpmp (instead it plays within the browser) but it has a nice zoom feature that basically makes it full screen.
Actually my version of Opera plays video from youku in the browser. It only started about a week ago, problem is it's slower than a three legged dog. And as for Skyfire, not in the US so thats not an option. I just thought somebody might be willing to write a program considering how many TV shows and stuff are available on youku. By the way is TCPMP with videoloader working for anyone?
After many messages and interaction with CoreCodec, I have given up.
Coreplayer on the Fuze, TP, Diamond, and Touch HD from all accounts absolutely sucks.
I have tried to get CoreCodec personnel to discuss when a fix is coming for newer devices. He dances around the topic like Fred Astaire. He won't admit that CorePlayer does not perform as advertised and expected for these newer MSM72## devices, yet CoreCodec is MORE THAN WILLING to take the money of people just discovering their software after purchasing their new HTC devices.
There have been forum bans, user deletes, message deletes, and more on their forums. People just want to know why they are getting hosed and when it might stop. There have even been postings from CoreCodec personnel about advances and the like for freakin Sony PlayStation 2's in response to our questions about our mobile devices.
Riiiiiiiight.........
SO- I say this:
Diamond, Raphael, and HD users BEWARE. Do Not spend your money on Coreplayer until we have proof version 2.0 works becaus as of now- Windows Media Player is kicking the crap out of CorePlayer when you encode your videos with these settings (Courtesy of Sketchy in the Diamond Forum):
Video Format: MPEG-4 AVC (saves as .mp4)
Resolution: 640x360 (still maintaining the original 16:9 AR)
Video bitrate: 1000 kbps
frame rate: 29.97 fps (progressive)
Audio format: AAC
Audio bitrate: 96 kbps, 48kHz sample rate
To prove it, I have placed this video on YouTube. Crank up the volume as the Fuze's speaker was abt 3 feet under my camcorder. You can clearly see how CorePlayer at this time is NOT worth your $$ (I should say they are stating that the new version that will fix these problems will be additional $$ if you buy their product now).
Here is the video on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lf4xteVs8M
I should state I am NOT a new purchaser of CP. Had it since my Wizard. I am just pissed they are not addressing customer concerns nor answering questions when we ask. We just want decent playback.
If it takes a while, fine. Just be honest.
**MODS> I know sticking this probably isnt too cool, but people are getting screwed. Please consider this. Tnx.
And I've been deleted from the user base on their forums.. Heh!

Out of curiosity, what apps do you use to convert videos to that format?
Use Super!

Man they must have deleted a lot of stuff in their forums because the threads are all wishmaster replying to non existent posts lol. I am curious why bother with CP if WMP is doing such a good job?
BTW I remember CP being slow to get the video support on the Athena, actually it may never have fully supported the hardware on that device...

It is sad actually. There were questions posted that were very simple to answer yet CoreCodec refused to do so.
I took screenshots of several of my posts knowing that they would get deleted. I'll post them tomorrow- I'm pretty wiped out from all the holiday stuff today.
All in all, I'm blown away at how little regard they have for their customer.
They have a pretty ignorant business model. I mean seriously- they portray their mobile player as the end all in the industry, yet they dont offer a trial period (oh no! people might figure out they aren't delivering what they promise depending on device) and they arent willing to let people know when they might be competitive with current apps that are... get ready for this...
INCLUDED IN THE WINDOWS MOBILE PACKAGE!!!!!
Wow!
Bad form, CoreCodec..... Bad Form!
I dont understand this thread tbh, ive been using coreplayer very happily since i got my raphael....a WIDE variety of video formats and they all play nicely....ive gotta ask are you still running a stock os??
I've also been running coreplayer since I got my Touch Pro, and for almost all videos I've tried (mostly DivX and XviD), it has performed remarkably well - I got coreplayer because WMP can't play (to my knowledge) videos requiring codecs like XviD and DivX, and most of the videos I watch are in those formats. I also tried DivX's mobile software, and that performed really poorly.
I'm always willing to try something new, so I will try converting some videos for WMP, but as far as I can tell, CP isn't giving me much of an issue at all.
The OP's point is well-taken, especially since Coreplayer doesn't have a trial ... but a little bit of due diligence would keep most people safe. TCPMP is kinda-sorta a trial ... the issue is Coreplayer is not optimized for the Raphael graphics acceleration hardware.
I do hope they manage to do it, then I'd purchase it.
Coreplayer is only good for XviD and DivX videos. When it comes to H.264 or its variants it sucks really bad. Only capable of playing half of the frames on average ( about 50% drops more or less). This is all based on my testing so far.
I am running v1.2.5 build 4506 for arm and the only issue I have is with flac files (no surprise). Even with a 500mhz cpu my phone has moments of complete silence as it tries to unfurl 30+mb songs.
I'm also running CorePlayer just fine. No problems whatsoever, and it outperforms WMP. I haven't tried the exact settings from your first post, but the normal desktop xvids work perfectly without having to transcode to a specific format for my raphael.
Make sure Qtv is enabled in Coreplayer (menu -> tools -> preferences -> select page -> qtv display -> tytn ii driver mode).
Btw, I'm not running stock ROM anymore. Maybe that makes a difference too.

No, I m still running the stock rom. At some point I'm sure I'll reflash, but I sure as hell am not going to because CP isnt up to the task of playing an mp4.
If you watch that video, you will see the various settings I used in CP and the result.
Maybe it is a Fuze issue (doubt it) but most of my vids are mp4 h264 (well they are now anyway) and CP just cant handle it.
It's not just my Fuze. Touch HD users are supposedly experiencing the same issue as are some Diamond owners.
The trick is that you wont see the complaints on the CoreCodec forums because posts are being deleted and people banned for "CorePlayer bashing".
I think that video speaks for itself.
Like VaThInk said: "Coreplayer is only good for XviD and DivX videos. When it comes to H.264 or its variants it sucks really bad. Only capable of playing half of the frames on average ( about 50% drops more or less). This is all based on my testing so far. "
Thats exactly what you are seeing in the video.
Fine- but if you are going to sell a app to someone with no trial then it better deliver. When it doesn't, then don't get pissed when those people want to know when it might.
Tap dancing around release dates for upgrades and then not being up front whether the upgrade is going to do anything (AFTER YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IT-AGAIN!) to remedy a problem is simply not cool.

And I said exactly that on their forum- if it could deliver on the formats I use with an upgrade, I would gladly purchase the upgrade.
Don't get me wrong people- I did NOT buy CP for my Fuze. Had it since my wizard but my point is they are letting people purchase it then when they find out it is truly not doing what they say it will on these newer devices they say you will be able to BUY an upgrade soon.
When? They won't say. Will it be in the 1.30 upgrade? Won't Say.
2.0? Probably but won't say for sure.
The ONLY thing they WILL say for sure is that you will have to PAY all over again- thus the title of the thread: Buyer Beware.
slight update:
http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=961
yeah sucks that it is getting hammered by wmp but they are working on it and were the ones that gave us kaiser users the first bit of hope when it came to the vid driver issues there.
i have played files of the type you mentioned (although the only setting different is i use 1200kbps) and they run fine on my touch pro
ive used coreplayer for ages now and never use wmp, so cant comment on which is better
coreplayer has a few bugs (esp tv out) and support for graphics isnt that good (htc fault) so i cant wait for a new release with these issues fixed
I had similar issues with H.264 vodcasts and Coreplayer. I thought I would have to reencode them, or subscribe to a different feed, but I happened to select one in WMP on the Fuze, and was very surprised to see it worked there, since it would not play better than 1-3fps on Coreplayer.
I love coreplayer and have no problems whatsoever, it is way better than wmp.
If you have problems with CorePlayer try different ROM or at least different video drivers. Try to put this to \windows
Code:
http://rapidshare.com/files/168326876/d3dm_ati.rar
I am playing full DivX DVD RIPs on my Raphael (ca. 800MB per movie) and it runs flawlessly even during fast actions.
Hey folks, I'm curious- Would it be fair to say that a lot of us (myself included) originally purchased CorePlayer because of the wealth of different formats it would play?
In other words letting us use one player to play our multimedia so we didnt have to take the time to re-encode the files?
Yesterday, I was attending the UEFA Europa League Final and I was filming the starting ceremony.
I didn't know that I had a merely 1.6 GB left on my SD card. When the memory was full, the camera app did the unthinkable (FC). I entered a file manager and saw that the video is there under the name temp_video but without any extension.
Can you please tell me how can I recover it?

Nope, that doesn't do the trick cause, you know, the file is not finalized one way or the other by the phone itself.I guess I should edit the file somehow on the PC.

Thanks for reply i'll keep the files, but there must be a solution (
Various free video conversion software should do the trick. I've had success using the conversion feature of VideoLAN's VLC media player to 'convert' to .mp4; the video is full size, with sound, and at the original quality. The VLC media player could even play the temp_video file as-is, without any conversion...the conversion was only necessary to play with other players/to burn to DVD.
Hope this helps.
Found a utility that does the trick
I had the same problem. Some people claimed vlc would work, but it didn't. So I tried out this tool: http://grauonline.de/cmsimple2_6/en/?Solutions:HD_Video_Repair_Utility
It worked when I gave it a reference video (video shot from the same phone), but it only saves half the video unless you buy the license. After watching the video, I determined that I don't need the second half for the price they ask (29 euros), but at least I got half. If the author would only charge say $5 per video I'd probably buy it. In lieu of that, I simply joined the file together to create one file twice as long and re-ran it. In windows "copy /b file + file combined_file". This worked as a stop-gap, but the sound got really off at the midpoint. So, if you really want it to work right, I'd suggest paying for the license.
Credit to this person for pointing me to the tool.

DId you bought programm and got better result with or without added longer file? Cause for me full version got and maybe thats all there is to get- all ok but video or sound is going at different speed. So just readjust that in video edit programm. Also in options can select to divide files in seperate audio and video files and then combine changing speed only for video in video editing sofware.
Recovering the temp_video file
Dear all,
i know it is odd to response to a "long time ago" post, but i wish that this may help people who are facing similar problem.
I have just tried the app from the Google Play, MP4fix.
It requires the corrupted file, temp_video and a well-recorded file, i am not sure is it better to be a similar length for the well-recorded?
After processing, you can freely play the recovered file or paid to save the file.
Which means you can use another phone to Rexxxx while the phone is pXXXing the video.
However, it is better to pay for the developers who make this app.
VLC Works as of This Writing
I had this problem. Went looking for a solution and found this article mentioning VLC. On a Galaxy Tab A (purchased new in late 2017), VLC was indeed able to play it as-is. Renaming the file with the mp4 extension (no conversion) meant that even the Samsung Video Player could play it. Maybe Samsung improved the readability of the temp files.
I got the fix
I know this is 7 years later, but I just got this problem and got an actual fix for it. Go to your file manager and click on DCIM then on Camera then scroll all the way to the bottom and press and hold on your temp video and press share. Share it to your google drive and then once its on your Google drive, you can download it if you want to back on your device. Worked on my s7, hope it works for yall
