Enable Back Camera For Videocall On At&t 8925 Tilt - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

ENABLE BACK CAMERA FOR VIDEOCALL ON AT&T 8925 TILT
It is possible to do? Do I need some registry hack?
btw:
-My service provider has 3g videocall enabled, so I can use it to receive videocall but I cannot send my own view.
-I have reflashed my 8925 with an Tytn rom (the dialer has the video button)
Thanks for your help!

use the back camera and stand in front of a mirror so you can see other person on your screen. Think about it, it would work but little silly though

Hold on I'm going to move to the back of the phone so you can see me now.

You missed the point.
There are times where you need to show something other than your face to other caller. Eg. Showing an engineer re the machine damage, etc. This is where the back camera comes in handy. Yes, you can take picture then send as MMS but if there're multiple things to show it's just not as convinient as using video call.

Easy solution!
Sell ur tilt on ebay, use money to buy a real htc kaiser. Ta da, now u can use video call the way its supposed to be used on ur phone. Wasnt that easy now?

Why would you do that? think man...use mirror reflection with the back camera. Use your imagination

My point is, I wish to know if it is possible to TRANSMIT VIDEO with a At&T Tilt, no matter what kind...just transmit the video to the other person during a call using 3G. There must be some registry hack to do this!...Pof, Olipro, Sleuth255: Tilt users need your help here!

There is a way to do this.. with my hermes (imate jasjam with front facing cam) in video calls you could go to options and switch to back camera.. I cant test it for you now cuz i'm in the US but heading overseas in mid june and pretty sure it can be done..

Great idea
I think that feature is good to have on the AT&T Tilt. Its a good idea to use the back camera with a lower resolution offcourse. Is it possible?

if you have dialer with video call and options like HTC dialer you can go to the option and turn the camera from the front to the rear one.. i think with this way you have video call on tilt

If you want the provider-supported videocalls then of course currently it can NOT be done (although in theory I would say it shouldn't be any problem just to force the use of rear camera in a small resolution and route it for videocalls, that should work for as long as you have 3G connection).
But
you can always use it for videocalls using other web-based communication apps, the only "problem" is that the other person have to use them too...
There was Microsoft Portrait - I had excellent videocalls using my old iPAQ 6515's and TYTN "rear" cameras; it even support connection to NetMeeting on your PC and that way I could i.e. have a peek whats going on at home (when PC's NM is set correctly you can enable it to autoanswer etc) Skype worked too; I bet bunch of other apps works that way too, and they probably work great - I can admit that i.e. MS Portrait had better video and audio than when using my provider's 3G videocalls.
The only problems are that i.e. MS Portrait is very picky about the cameras (i.e. it doesn't recognize the camera in last version of iPAQ6515 while it did in the previous model) or Skype fiddles with their app so often and so much that it is hard to even say which one works on which phone (there are versions that I don't even had sound over wifi on TYTN II, not to mention old iPAQ...)
So, if you want videocalls - and not necessarily through your usually crappy provider - there are plenty of options... you just won't see yourself or the other person when youre using the "rear' camera, thats all.

I have done this using webcamera plus: provided the necessary ports are open and the windows xp/vista software is installed, put the receiver's ip address on your pocket pc part of the software and you will be transmitting video with either camera.

TNTY II and skype

I have just installed skype which seems to be working fine. The only problem I have is that the unit has to be left switched on. If it goes into power save mode it seems to drop the WLAN connection so does not ring when someone calls me on my skype in number. Any ideas how to get this to work as the power drain on battery means that I have to leave the handset plugged into the mains.
I am also keen to change the ring tone but am unsure if this is possible as there are no options on the set up for the mobile skype.
All help and ideas greatly appreciated.
using skype, did the video camera work?
As far as I know the camera dosenst work....
Well I dont know if it's possible. But the Data connection useres alot of batery, so it may be a problem, even if the display itself is switched off.
This phone is sold as a high end Business device etc. yet its impossible to use the video camera with yahoo , sykpe etc. What is the point of offering a front facing camera designed to be used for web type use if it will not work
I still cannot believe the HTC head engineer allowed this phone to be sold with such silly issues
Skype works here on but only on speaker and not with the Telephone speaker. Is there a solution for that??
I've got a slightly different issue besides the fact we can't use the camera. I tried both fring and skype for VoIP, but in both cases the voice quality is always pretty bad. The moment I use the phone as a modem and skype with someone over a laptop, the quality is perfect.
I am currently using skype version 2.1.0.65 on the vario III, as I read somewhere that older versions work better with the Vario III. The quality seems to be slightly better than when I had the latest version of Skype Mobile installed, but it's still far from using it to have a decent conversation. I wonder how everybody else on this forum is managing to speak over skype or fring... Or is everybody having the same issue ?
Thanks

Hi, try to use Kaiser Tweak from this forum and enable WiFi on sleep mode. Haven't tried this myself, but it should work.
Greetz,
Hans Olo
Is there a video option on Skype for Windows Mobile in the first place?!
Guys thanks for the input and help. My skype is working fine so voice calls over a wlan connection is perfect and not sure what was meant by speaker and telephone speaker but the volume controls and microphone quality mean that you can connect to skype as a phone or handsfree phone.
Will try the Kaiser tweaks to see if that does anything and will let you know.
Haven't tried the camera but I guess it doesn't work but that doesn't really bother me. Too many camera's out there these days watching ou anyway

Why do you persist in knocking this phone at every oppourtunity?
Please tell me which phone can be used with yahoo, skype etc? I won't hold my breath for a reply, because, these services are cut-down, mobile versions of the PC based software and don't even offer video calling! So why is it HTC's fault if the people who wrote the software didn't build that function in?! Maybe they should have held back releasing this phone because my Network doesn't offer HSDPA in my area, or I can't get coverage in the middle of the Pacific, or the GPS signal is crap in the middle of the channel tunnel?! Because that is clearly HTC's fault too by your logic...
And I think you'll find the front camera is designed for 3G video calls, not web type work...so frankly, you are a bit of a Paper Hat for moaning about this really aren't you?
[/RANT]
Back on topic, changing the ring tone, not an option unfortunately, least as far as I could find after trawling through the settings options and the registry and the actual program directories.
Personally, I wouldn't bother with Kaiser Tweak to leave WiFi active whilst is sleep mode as it will still eat up battery since the WiFi is still active. With Skype using the WiFi connection to connect, WiFi will need to be 'always-on' thus any saving you make from leaving it on during sleep mode will be negligable (I would have thought). External power (or a huge battery) is the only option.
Still it is nice to at least have the option of Skype Mobile!
Have to agree with you about the phone as I think it's awesome and the best phone I've ever bought for functionality. Don't understand the web camera thing either - just use a laptop if you want that.
Shame about the ring tone as would prefer just the normal modern skype one but it's not gonna bother me that much.
Online on the lan I actually get a decent battery life anyway when on all the time so get a good 4-6 hours on just connected which is pretty damned good.

Actually last time I really used a WiFi connection seriously was approx 4yrs ago (when you could still use ActiveSync via Wifi) and my device at the time would be dead in an hour so if you are getting 4-6 hours of uptime I would view that as excellent!

Qik

Does anyone have this running on a tilt?
http://www.qik.com/
it's a live streaming web video that uses your phones camera.
Mine gets stuck on launch with "initializing camera". Other people on the qik site with a tilt have the same issue.
Wondering if anyone is running it here or knows how to fix that problem.
there is a cab to enable att video calling, i assume that since att doesnt support video calling that is the problem. search for the cab, youll find it, also try installing att disable hidden proxy cab. hope that helps

No it is not. Video calling as a native feature of 3G networks, and it's thus handled by the 3G protocol stack. The Tilt having no front cam and not being meant to use video calling, that function was disabled. It can be enabled and the back cam used instead though.
But that has no effect on any other program wanting to open a video device (either back or front one) and do whatever it wants with it like encoding and streaming its feed over the internet.
Try researching a bit before shouting at innocent people...
Re the program, looks good, I might have a try
whos yelling
I use Livecast w/o any problems.
well, i just put it on my tilt and it works fine just that i get a long delay on the live video.
Works "fine" on my tilt... 10-15 second delay though :-(

I've used Livecast as well but Qik seems to be much better.
I used Livecast at a football (soccer) game that I went to one time.
On my club's forum, people who can't make the game 'cos they're working or they're ex-pats log in and follow/discuss the game online, creating a "match thread".
I posted a link to my Livecast page and gave them snippets of the game.
At one point, my team got a penalty kick, so I was able to quickly start Livecast and let them see the goal (almost) live.
Watching it later the picture was absolutely lamentable though, Qik definitely seems to be a step up from that.
Qik support
hey Guys, thanks for trying the Qik and for the feedback. Actually I'm from Qik team and I want you getting involved in the process of development. I know there are some problems with Kaiser devices. I really want you to provide some debug builds with extended logging to figure out the problem.
If you have any ideas about Qik, things to improve, feature requests please left posts on this thread or contact me directly vovk <[at]> qik.com
Just something that may or may not be relevant to the people who are getting "initializing camera".
I hadn't had this problem but recently I tried to stream some video, realising too late that I was in a bit of a dead spot where I could only get GPRS, not 3G or HSDPA.
I immediately got the "initializing camera" message and it stayed like that until I did a soft reset.
It might (note 'might') be worth checking that you've got a decent 3G signal before opening qik.

Alright, ignore the above.
I'm just sitting here, I had a big ol' HSDPA signal and I thought that I'd try qik...............................
"Initializing camera".
Looks as if signal strength isn't necessarily the deciding factor then.
I'll soft reset, I bet it works then.
Edited to say: Yeah, worked fine again after the soft reset.
Hey, this is my 100th post!
I really wish that the quality of the video could be better. I realize that this is probably a problem more with the Tilt and its crappy video/camera drivers than it is with Qik.
This is something I'm really interested in though, I would like to see what some other phones look like but the qik website doesn't seem to tell you which phone recorded what.

Just a couple of small suggestions that may answer your questions.
When u got ur phone and opened the box somewhere in there you should have found the manual. It has great details on what the comm manager buttons do. Now it may not cover all the extra buttons that your cab installed but it will help. Read it.
Google is your friend. Where ever you got the cab file from should have told you who made it. Search on their nick and you should find details on the extra buttons.

Okay, Less the Microsoft direct push, the touch pro manual would not say how these other buttons function. I only asked because it was on topic. why would beam be in my manual if my phone doesn’t have IR?
Second, if you don’t know the answers don’t say "google it" to feed your superiority trip. I’ve been googling it since the 90's. Ive tried googling "IP Phone" with the touch pro, and found dirt. Ive tried locating the original thread to ask the creator, and cant find it.
So...the manual wont help......Google has nothing....and I can’t find the original thread. So im left with my last option...

1. VOiP (Not for a headset for Skype but actual skype itself)
2. Verizon uses CDMA not 3g, so does not apply to you
3. works with lightsaber.cab and garagedooropener.cab
4. Verizon chokes chickens? Sounds like a personal issue. If it's that big of a deal I'd look into a proxy or something, not sure if that would help

On a sidenote, there are alot better comm managers out there might want to look into the Raphael CDMA threads for stuff that people use with Verizon and the Touch Pro. GSM devices such as ATT and Tmobile are different hardware wise then those of verizon and sprint(?) which use CDMA as radio frequencies. Hope this helps

So you got a cab from someone that you cannot trace. You then loaded it to your $1,000.00 phone without knowing what all the functions are.
Now you are giving me grief because I suggested (in an attempt to help you help yourself) that you google for the cab or the guy who made it as most of the software developers on XDA usually give information on what their software does.
Your response was pretty much what I expected and why I did not give you the direct answers. You want to be molly coddled and fed fairy floss, call HTC. They will at least pretend to give a ****.

You can't receave files via Bluetooth if you disable Beam, don't know why this thing is still there, I think it comes from the times of IR.

What is the point of a video call if ni one can see you? What are you going to do, video call someone and then talk to them while they look at the scenery ?
With this in mind, AT$T tries to sell us on Video Share.

Moto Voice and GPS issues

I am not sure if this is an issue or if I am just being overly picky so I figured I would ask you guys and see what your experiences are.
My GPS arrow on maps doesnt point the direction the phone is moving(top of the phone). The arrow points to the right(side of the phone.) My old Nexus 4 didnt have this issue.
Moto voice is also really quite. The voice assistant does not speak with the same volume as the rest of the phone. Even with the volume turned up the voice assistant is quite.
what do you guys think, am I just being overly picky?
I've been hoping someone would respond with help or suggestions regarding this. Sitting in front of my computer, the screen orients correctly. But when I put my phone in my car, mine does the same as yours.
