I was curious if there is an app that will, upon pressing and holding a key such as the PTT key or end key, would subsequently end all running tasks, lock the phone, and put it in standby.
If there is such an app would anyone care to enlighten me? If not, I think there may be a market for such a thing. I could be wrong, I've been wrong before and I'm sure I'll do it again soon.
I tried searching xda with google and the xda search and didn't get lucky. Sorry otherwise.
I must confess that would be very useful. Not being a programmer i don't know if its possible or not. Any ideas anyone??
I have not come across such a function and all I have been looking for is a utility that will allow another button to put my tilt into standby (I find it a little difficult feeling the power button w/o looking)!
perhaps we should ask WAKU (creator of wktask) to see if he can import that excellent software into buttons. He has all functions available thru wktask such as closeall/suspend and he can add lock easily. he hasn't updated as frequently anymore perhaps more people should donate
Ill email him, to see if hes willing to do it!
I, too, have asked about this type of functionality. I'd love to hit the power button or the PTT button and have it close all apps (except for those in an exception list) and put the phone in standby.
The last time I asked about this the best reply was someone suggesting that perhaps a mortscript could be written to do it. I never looked further into it.
its possible, but i have never maked programs for ppc =/.. if someone has an idea, or if it is like c/c++ i can..
I use the excellent and free AE Button Plus.
I have a triple press of the ok button place the phone in standby.
(I have a double press of the ok button launch S2U2 to lock the phone and turn off the display but leave the GPS running)
pjam
Its definitely possible. All the individual components have already been done: You can remap the PTT button, , some 3rd party task managers have "end all" features, and software like S2U2 can easily lock your phone. Perhaps you could rig some sort of script to run them all, or find someone to program up a less jerry-rigged version. I don't think that the app would be all that popular, maybe the script is the best way to go.
I am fairly certain I can do this with an action sender & using one of the keyboard driver shortcuts (Short_Power.lnk). I will have a go at compiling a small actions send proggie & seeing if I can compile the kill arguments into it. I can definitely get you into suspend or stand-by, it's the killing of everything else that getting me. So far I can't get both functions into the same key press.

Hi,
I've successfully re-mapped the PTT button by following the instructions from this forum. I imagine the same procedure would apply to the small OK button immediately below the jog-wheel, but I don't know where to start. Of course, the button is not present in the Settings/Buttons applet - that would have been too easy.
First, how to disassociate it from its present function (Start Menu/OK)? And once disassociated, what is the button code to enter in the registry?
I tried aebplus, and it sort of works - but the start menu still comes up on the first keypress if invoked in the Today screen.
Any ideas on how to re-map this otherwise useless key?
Thanks,
Mike.

You sound like a jerk for posting that I did not search when the reply prior to mine was 6 months ago.
Did you even read the thread? None of the links you posted had instructions/advice on how to remap the side "ok" button.

yes i was about to say. non of them have steps or even telling you anything related to how to get it.
all it says is people trying it matter and they failed.
if there was no solutiion you should have just said no solution, it would have saved you time searching all that and also us bashing you
the 4th link does have some good information, lemme just quote from it

The side "ok" button is a tough one because it has multiple functions. In programs, explorer windows, and settings it acts as an OK button but when you're at the today screen it acts as a Start Menu button. I kinda get the feeling we're not going to be able to change this for a while. Not until someone releases a keymapper specifically for the Kaiser.

It's really easy with help of AE Button Plus.
You can pretty much map any hardware key on your device with this great app.
I have it setup to be able to copy and paste by using the sliding keyboard and pressing Window Key + C to copy and Window Key + V to paste among other cool shortcuts.
Cheers!

Thanks Rayan. I downloaded the AE Button Plus program for my AT&T Tilt, and it is working fantastic for remapping buttons. I was able to remap the side OK button to lock my phone by holding it for a few seconds. I love the way it also lets you leave the button with its default setting for one press, but create other actions for multiple presses.
By the way, the phone locking works fantastic. It allows me to answer calls, but doesn't activate any of the other phone functions until I unlock the phone. That's perfect for carrying the phone in my pocket. Also, incoming notifications don't unlock the phone, so that I won't accidentally turn-on a bunch of applications while the phone is in my pocket. The unlocking action is very simple.
I've also mapped volume up and down to a long press of the soft keys. That alleviates the need to use the stylus to select the volume button. Great.
The AE Button Plus program was what I've needed all along to customize my phone. It would've saved me a lot of time.
One other note, I downloaded the 2.6.3 version of the program, rather than the freeware version, but I haven't gotten any info on the cost. I may be disappointed in the near future if this program automatically deactivates. Do you know if I should expect a disappointment? I would pay for this program, but I'm not sure how much it's worth to me, but I saw no information on the cost. Do you know?
AFAIK there is only one version, if you want the registered version you buy a license and there's a procedure to activate it, otherwise it uses the free version with a couple features disabled and a nagscreen once in a while.
I know that I would donate $10 to someone who can take the time to figure this out. It has to be possible to add a Tasks tab to the TF3D interface.
I don't want to have to switch to second today or anything like that - fully integrated! A clean and simple list of tasks maybe with an "X" delete button on the right side of each task.
I know people say it's impossible, but with some time I'm sure it can be done.
If you would like this too and would be willing to donate some - just leave a post saying so - maybe someone will be enticed to collect such a prize enough to figure it out!
If you do figure it out and post a reply - you're my hero and please set up a thread for donations!
edit: By tasks I mean things you have to do in real life - NOT a list of running programs - linked in to the 'Tasks' program that's a part of outlook...
yeah, someone help!!! it a obviously new tab, everyone need that!
Manila Control?
I know it's not the answer you're looking for but have you taken a look at Manila Control?
It allows you to use your regular today screen (with plugins). It's somewhat like Second Today however I always had problems with it running. I've been using this since its release and haven't had any trouble whatsoever.
Manila Control
It's something for now until the XDA gurus can figure out a way to create a tasks tab.
count me in for a donation
I'll be willing to contribute to a tasks tab!
I'll donate too, 10-20 dollar if you can make something like alt-tab in windows for the touch pro, maybe use the capacitive touch(multitouch) for the alt tab, and when i slide my finger across that, i can select the program.

What I want is the ability to quickly switch between all the program I have running. If i'm using opera and have say, media player running in the background, right now, I have to go to "Home", than use the HTC Task Manager to switch to media player.
If there is an easier way, that'll be great, but I have been doing it that way all this time.
Hahahaha... I cancel my donation - I was thinking about "tasks" as "things to do", not "running programms"
Ok - let me clear things up since I started the thing
I want a task tab as in 'things to do'
Like linked to the 'Tasks' program
You kno - that program that's a part of outlook.
NOT something to show running programs!
To me that just sounds excessive...

try "task facade"
I have a fuze, so I set the ptt button, but you can set the long-send key as it, and it'll do a x1 style overview of windows
I have a question about the tad too, I've seen nice interfaces with a calendar tab, for whatever reason my ATT Fuze didn't come with a calendar tab, you can click calendar from the home page but it brings up the default calendar instead of the pretty calendar I've seen in other screen shots, is there maybe a cab out there to install but he calendar tab to my stock Fuze TF3D?
Thanks!!
Heres a screenshot of what I'm missing (note mines not a black theme its the default ATT Fuze gray theme)

$10*
Put me down for $10 provided that it is a tab, not a SecondToday kind of thing, and that the task display is a la TodayAdenda not just the original MS today tasks plug in.
Weird that this hasn't been done already considering how many people want it as, though I am not a programmer, it doesn't seem like it is that complicated a modification given some of the other things XDA folk have produced.
bump...............
OK, since it's for the "things to do" tab, I'll pay 10 bucks for it eventually
This is my most awaited feature. Not having easy access to tasks is a huge inconvenience. I do not understand why this was not a default tab...
Has there been a solution to this problem yet?
no... Just wishful thinking I guess...
$100 anyone???? (sarcasm btw)
I am pretty sure you cant do this from xml editing alone. I think you would need the source code for tf3d. I could add the function in the source code and then edit xml. Does any one have tf3d reversed engineered or is the source code released?
Is there a way to remap left hardware button to TouchFLO 3D home tab? I had a Diamond, was used to home button, and I want the XPeria left button to have the same behaviour.
It was hard for me to find that too, but then I realized that I can go to home tab by pressing the hang up button.
Start -> Settings -> Personal -> Buttons and map hw button of choice to "today".
Dont get me wrong, but was it really THAT difficult to just try and look for it by yourself on your phone?? It's not some fancy registry tweak..just a plain simple wm option as old as the world. Sometimes i wonder how many people buy a certain device "because it looks so cool" or "omg that ad is awesome!" and have actually NO IDEA of what's inside what they are buying...hope you don't fall within this category.

MacCarron, if you think I'm such a newbie and don't know what I'm doing, you are so wrong.
Wanna try something? Do what you said to me, map left button to "today". Now, in TouchFLO 3D, go to another tab, Internet, for example. Now press the left button, which you did happen to map to "today" (at least I hope so). What happens now? NOTHING!! In fact, that "today" is WM today. TouchFLO 3D is a plugin, so you can't assign home tab to left button.
Assign "today" to left button works different than Diamond's home button, which in fact was assigned to TouchFLO 3D home tab.
Anyway, thanks for (not) helping.
M.Ozturk, thanks, I realized that, I was looking for a way to map left or right hardware buttons.

Mine works just fine pal..whenever,wherever i am, it takes me back to today. (should i provide a video proving it? lol.) In fact i've been using the hw keys mapped in this manner for a year, and it always works. Question your actions instead of calling someone a smartass privately and publicly. Or did you think i had made up those instructions i gave you without ever applying them, either right before giving them to you or in the past? Sad. This said, i'm out, "since you are so smart" figure what's wrong with your (i'd say rom) by yourself.

Yeah, maybe it's a ROM matter (I've been playing around with two or three, since it's been 2 days I have the Xperia). But if it's a ROM matter, it's not as easy as you described initially, right?
What just pissed me off is that you assumed that I haven't searched, or tried the simple way you have told me.
Just read what you wrote:

Wouldn't it be easier if you just tell me "maybe it's a ROM problem", Mr. Xperia-expert-who-knows-everything-and-others-don't??
I also used to have touch diamond, and would love to have this behaviour as well. I use Touch X 10.1 and mapping to "today" just takes you to TF3d, doesn't take you to home screen

I apologize for taking you for a newbie without the ability to learn and search, but lately xda has been drowning in stupid questions. Since i figured out the issue by myself long ago and it was really easy i assumed you hadn't even tried, like many people around here ("guys how do i flash a rom?"). Sorry. Btw i said i hoped you did not fall within the category..If it's a ROM matter it gets way more complicated and possibly unfixable without knowing what the chef cooked in. What ROM are you using? Since i got my x1 i tried NRGZ, Itje, Smaberg, Rota and Agent and hw buttons assignment has always worked..
Ok, apologies accepted.
I'm trying now Touch X 10.8.2 Legendary, and cannot map hardware buttons like that. I'll go back to Valkyrie v4.2 Firestorm and see what happens.
I suspect that buttons functionality depends on Manila build version.

I just hopped onto an Energy ROM after I had tried one other.... I am pleased.
I am using his 28.may2010.WWE for the Rhodium and now my PTT button, which I was going to remap to my Resco task manager.. or LOUDTALKS App PTT function... and I see the the button is basically missing in the ROM. As if I didn't even have a physical one. But I do... I want to remap it. What is the deal?
Now if this was done intentionally - Well that is just STUPID period. A button you can map is a button you can map. I did this on both the STOCK ROM and clean Stock ROM that someone else offered.
I swap to this Energy Rom and the buttons in Settings doesn't even show the existence of the button to remap.
Did I miss something? What gives? Even though I just spent an hour searching here...I'm not searching any more and reading tons of posts for something that if done intentionally.... Is not my fault.
The button doesn't work/exist... The answer should come to me from the person who originated the problem. That is just fair. I'm not being a jerk But seriously... I am not looking high and low for an answer to fix something I did not break. If that was the case.... I wouldn't be whining I'd still be looking.
Sorry so abrupt. DELL screwed me on a PC case delivery and they want me to wait another month (after 1 month already) with a pile of hardware here.... SORRY!
I'm a bit put off atm... having found LOUDTALKS app and cannot bind the damn button to it.. Button is KAPUT?!?!
I'd suggest posting on this in the EnergyROM thread
Suggestion noted.... But I actually thought that is where I was.... Heh! I guess I entered a different thread from my Search results..... Feel free to move this.... Mods unless you think I should repost.
only the tilt2 has the ptt button just search for a key mapper and it will work on any rom "keyboard config" for rhodium.

Try this cab I made
View attachment 344785
The stock AT&T rom does this and I was hoping someone would know how to enable this feature on a cooked rom. I always end up putting my device in sleep when im typing anything. Ive looked through the registry to try and find where i could change it with no success. Searching also didnt seem to yeild anything relevant then again that may have just been due to the keywords i used. Anyone know how to do this?
Thanks
I would also love to know how to do that. It is really annoying when UI'm in the middle of texting and I hit the power button by accident.
I have seen a cab floating around here somewhere just after the tp2 was released, you should be able to find it with the search
i tried searching first but was unsuccessful at even finding anything related to what i was looking for. Not even someone asking about it. i guess i will have to think of some other keywords than landscape and powerbutton. any suggestions? i know its possible and its probably just a registry key
it's a good idea. Me also find that when writing to Querty keyboard presses power button. Could this feature be added to the energy rom.
well it could be added to any rom, but i wouldnt imagine NRG adding it by default. It could be rather bothersome to some people. I wouldnt be surprised if he added it to the addon folder for his roms if a few people requested it and sent him the cab to host. Then all you gotta do is put it your UC folder and it would be auto installed anyways. Anyone know if the keyboard mapper program handles the power button and could do this? id rather see a cab then using a whole app but at this point i will settle for anything i can get. mabye i will try it when i get off work
dang you really gotta choose the right keywords to get anything. long story short, found a thread with a link to another thread that had the cab. And it works great! better than i had hoped. disables the short press and you can hold the power button to bring up slide to shut down which has a sleep option. but if ur in landscape u have to hold the power button to get it to come back on. there are multiple profiles thats just the one that works best for me. give it a try:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=546094
find the program:
hAndy Power button
It's a tiny little CAB that does 1 thing.... disables the button when keyboard is open
works great.
