It still is a fairly new phone, with a supposed US version in the works and the s720 hitting Verizon I am sure we will see something before too much longer.

Wanting to upgrade ROM but would like a comparision

Hello, I just bought my MDA a few days ago and here is my current specs:
ROM version: 1.8.10.2 WWE
ROM date: 12/10/05
Radio Version: 4.0.13.20
ExtROM version: 1.8.10.104
I posted in the other forum but it may be the wrong place. Now, I want to upgrade so I can run java applets and I also heard some ROMS simply make the phone run better. Is there a place where I can see the comparisons between all the ROMs available? Trying to look each rom up is just a scattering of information. Any suggestions on which ROM to use. Now, I'm not a noob to flashing stuff I know the proper procedure for backing up, etc etc. I'm simply trying to find a comparisoin between the roms and the best place to find most of them (there is an ftp account here also isn't there?)

yeah, the newest OFFICIAL version: Not beta, not leaked, etc... If not, i would say its trial and error to find the best one for your needs.

Actually, wouldn't you think that the NEWEST version going around might be the one with the most bugs since it is the NEWEST and perhaps slightly older ones are more stable? Or perhaps all the bugs of the older one were fixed in the newest one? Maybe the newest has everything setup really nicely but doesn't have java (like I wanted) or perhaps it does but mms doesn't work right. I think I proved my point. What I'm basiclaly asking is what ROM is most stable and also has JAVA. I've read up on some ROMS with java included but some still have bugs.
I think you have to just read thru the forum and decide for yourself which one is best for you. There's plenty of info on each thread.

Dutty 1.8 ROM urgent help needed please

HEy Guys,
I've just flashed my touch HD using the hard SPL then onto Dutty's Extrem Rom 1.8 and when the flashing was done, each time i turn on the device it says
"This concludes the beta test of this software release. Thank you very much for your time and effort in helping make this a great product for our customers"
"To obtain a newer release or further information, please revisit the web site that you used to obtained your current beta software"
Thing is, I can't do anything at all when the screen shows up at the start.
Please help.
Anyone
Please anyone out there
im afraid ur a little late in the day for that rom, it was a test rom that expired back in feb. You need to re flash to another rom, if you want to stick with dutty, find his website (via google) and sign up to access his download section. 2.3 is the latest rom from him i think
good luck
Mat
Don't know if you used it but the search function is quite handy. The topic has been discussed alot already, try using the term ''time bomb'' and you'll see what I mean.

Android on a HTC Touch Viva

Hi Folks,
I use a HTC (Touch Viva T2223), I was not sure if this Vogue or Opal. (I have a RAM – 128 MB, Flash Size – 256 MB). Can you please redirect me to the download link of the Android Kernel.
I am not aware on flashing my mobile. Please let me know, how do I do the same. Will the language setting be a problem? I am referring to the keyboard layout.
Also, it would great if you can share information on how do I go back to Windows Mobile, if I had any problem with Android? How will I load Windows on it again?
Thanks in advance for clarifying my queries.
Cheers'
Vijay
Viva = Opal
At the moment, there are now Android builds for Opal. The only thing on these
forums related to Linux is this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462188
I only got my device less than a week ago, but I'm planning on experimenting with this when I can. However, I'm still far from being an expert. So I'm not sure how helpful I'll manage to be.
hmmmm...Thanks for your reply dude!!
Well, dont we have a kernel for our mobile Yet? Doesnt the same build of Touch fits in?

Apparently there are three "Touch"s: "Vogue", "Elf" and "Elfin".
Vogue has a different processor so it's useless. Even though Android can run on it right now.
As for the other two, the difference between them is RAM and ROM sizes. The ELF has less than the min required for running Android so it's a no go.
And nobody managed to get Android to work on Elfin yet (at least as far as I managed to find). Although it's running another Linux build.
Great to know that, the progress is being made..and now we hv a linux on.
Things which amazes me is, HTC touch with lesser RAM, is running Android.!!
Well, Do we have any basic requirements for loading Android OS? I mean, required RAM? Does the email in Android support Microsoft Exchange server?
Heylo Folks.. Any luck on Android for our Opal?
I have one now and guess if its possible.. there is a video that shows it working :S

Android on HTC Touch Viva
Hi guys,
Sorry if any of this was addressed on any other forum (or thread); I looked around for a little while but couldn't find it...
I have a HTC Touch Viva (T2223 - Opal) running WM6.5 after flashing it a couple of months ago. Battery issues appart I'm quite happy with it (sort of, since the only improvement was really the looks on the GUI and now my keyboard is limited to English only). However, this Android thing has been banging on my head and I am looking for a ROM that will make it on my device.
Any clues were I can find it?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,

I think what D#1 is that if Android is available for opal itself right now.
Well to that question the answer is yes and no, yes because it exists and is functional and no because its not complete and has umpteen number of glitches. Ppl have been working on it for sometime now and I think we need to show them some appreciation for their consistency even with no incentive at sight.

Hi, thanks Mr. Zeus... Does that mean I should revert to the original WM 6.1 ROM prior to try to run android on my device?
If so, is there any place I can retrieve the 6.1 original ROM for the touch viva t2223?
Thanks for your time (and patience for my newbie questions)

Xperia X1 The best setup?

Hello!
This is my first post in the forum.
I recently got a X1 prototype to play with, im all new to WM Phones. So i dont know what to do and not to do.
What i personally feel is that X1 is kinda slow, but from what I've read I understand that some people has customized their own stuff for the phone to make it faster than it is with original firmware (or what its called)
My question to you guys/girls is: What is the best setup for the phone to make it run smooth but, what ROM should i use, if someone could put up a simple guide with links so what i need to download, the best roms, best appz.
Note that i dont want a GUI that looks like win 3.11. I still want it to look good. Not neccecearly with just spb shell.
Anyone that reccomend putting WM 6.5 into X1?
Anyway, the best stuff so the phone will run at its best!
That would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
Edit: A list of "what to do" would be good, stuff i need to do before doing anything to the phone, to make sure i wont brick it.
Welcome .
I see that you are looking for the perfect setup and the easiest way of doing it, just like me, when I first came here. The short answer is that there is no such thing .
It all comes down to personal preference when WinMo is concerned. I can tell that you have read a bit, so my advice is to continue reading and do a lot of experimenting to see what you might like. You might like a stripped ROM that is blazingly fast and has only the basic features. You might want a slower, but fully stocked phone with every app available.
I can bet that if someone from the forum picked up my X1 he wouldn't like it and vice versa.
Maybe you should start with the ROMs that are specifically made for speed and smoothness and see if you like them. Just read the descriptions.
Cheers .
Hello! Thank you for your reply.
I almost figured that i would get a reply like yours. As we say in sweden: Smaken är som baken, delad = One mans meat is anothers poison. Ofcourse its hard to find the perfect setup.
But according to my directives (Going fast, but still pretty neat) As you said. Its either the basics = going fast, or a fully stocked = slow phone.
Isn't it something in between? A setup that contains both the basic features, but also some neat GUI.
And if someone has got any experience from WM 6.5 on xperia X1, please tell if it worked good.
Are they any ROMs more popular than others, if i put it that way....There must be something that a slight majority likes.
Is it even possbile to do something with a prototype?

Your problem might also be hardware, rather software. Prototypes usually don't have the same "guts" as their commercial, mass produced siblings. Some have less RAM, or a slower processor, or less internal memory, etc.

Im with you there. Its not the first proto i have, so im aware that hardware may not be the same as retail. But still..firmware can do much, eventough ram is lesser than the retail (256) I have R1A at the moment.
I will post some device info. Just so you know whats inside the phone.
Rom-Version: 1.02.936.3
Rom-Date: 08/29/08
Radioversion: 1.06.25.29
Protocall version: 52.43.25.24U
CPU: QUALCOMM(R) 7200A
Clock: 528 MHZ
RAM-Size: 256 MB
Flashmemorysize: 512 MB
Database: 32 Bit
StorageSize: 281.58 MB
Bluetooth-Version: 2.0/2.0+EDR
Firmware: R1AA017
ah yes the R1A firmware. that's what i had on my X1i when i first got it. when i upgraded to the R3A....it was BEYOND the difference between night and day. it was like night vs standing on the sun.
to get the ball rolling, i would recommend getting the Sony Ericsson Update Suite from their website, and updating the phone through their automated system. it will bring you up to date on the R3A rom and it's painfully easy, so it will give you a taste of what's to come...

Try reading this thread first as this is the 1st thing that you need to do for flashing a new ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431218
Afterwards, try reading this thread as this is where you will know how or ways to flash a ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445662 ( I suggest that you use this method as, as you said you can not use SEUS.
I suggest that you try the following ROM's as they are, imho, the fastest and best, so far http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=524043 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512050 (Try the latest build).

I totally agree - I run the Valkyrie ROM and it's absolutely amazing! I will recommend flashing it any day. One of my co-workers has the same ROM, and he's also amazed.
One thing to notice: If you're from Sweden, you might want to stay clear of the Manila versions. For me (from Denmark) I can't run the Danish keyboard settings while running Manila, and that's a total deal-breaker. After all, you want to take advante of full QWERTY, right?
Manila is what you might know as Touch Flo from HTC phones. IMO you should avoid that, go with Valkyrie's Xperio ROM (without Manila) and use the SPB panel (free). Then you have a really strong setup!
But hey - that's just me

Great, thanks for the info, i was kind of unsure what version of a rom i should install
If you're still feeling your way around, install the official Sony Ericsson R3A ROM. No need to Hardspl, and you'll still have the same interface that you're used to.
I cant install R3A :S
It says "No image found" bootloader.
And the card is FAT32, and the file is named Kovsimg.nbh
And yes, its placed in the root of the Card.

First of all: If you want the original firmware, don't take it from XDA - take it from the SE official program.
Second: If you want to install a cooked ROM, first run HardSPL. This only works in some of my USB-ports, and only without inserting the memory card.
Once HardSPL is installed, you need the Kovsimg.nbh file...
Hope it helps

[Q] WIN upgrade for t5353 diamond 2

I am trying to find upgrade rom from 6.1 to6.5 but they all say not available for this phone.
It is a t5353 sn. HT95TLXXXXXX
Is there an upgrade for this phone?
MOD EDIT: Not a good idea to post your device's serial number!!
reported it to mods, so that it is moved to the right section, more help will be provided in the right section
Thread moved to Topaz Q&A.
There are plenty of 6.5 ROMs here in the forum. Just follow the instructions for installing Hard-SPL & flash away!
If you're looking for an official update, those would be found on the HTC website (if available).
EDIT: There are several 6.5 ROM updates on the HTC website. The ones one last year include Manila 2.1, while this year's updates include Sense 2.5 (depending on your region).
EDIT 2: Here's the latest (official) WM 6.5 ROM for your device: http://www.htc.com/th/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=249&cat=2&dl_id=915
EDIT 3: If you're interested, here's the older (original) 6.5 upgrade for your device: http://www.htc.com/th/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=249&cat=2&dl_id=741
Thanks for that.
Also could you tell me what unscrupulious use could be made from the serial no. I posted (not thinking) So I could be on the lookout?

To be honest, I'm not really sure - but I do know the serial number is specific to your device, and somewhere (likely in your Carrier's system) is connected to your personal information. So, while it's not likely that someone will use this information against you, I wanted to make sure you knew that it was possible, and remove it from your post just in case.

Well i just want to tell that, serial number for GSM devices cant be traced to any Personal info, but they still they to remove it so that hacker may not clone the serial numbers
Installed the latest that you sugested and it works except I am having a problem driving it. the only 6.5 user manual I have been able to find is a 6.5 telstra one which is different in some things. If I could speak russion I might be able to find it at the same site that I got the rom.
