I don't know if it has been posted here before(search for q8 returned no results) but I've stumbled upon something that might be useful. Maybe something to give back for all the cooked roms I've used. I'll quote the text files that came with them below. Enjoy.
Real media decoder plugin for Windows Media Player 10 mobile.txt:
I stumbled across this rm decoder for WMP mobile in another forum. 1O_+6|+b
Just Download the .cab file and install.
can play rmvb in WMP mobile.
I tried this in my HP IPAQ 112 (WM6 , 624Mhz cpu, 64M ram, WMP 10 mobile)
It can play 320*240 .rmvb files but gets jerky in 640*480 .rmvb files
For details, go to http://bbs.pdafans.com/viewthread.php?tid=485020&highlight=mplayer
And for your reference,
the above file <20 small.rmvb> can be played perfectly in my machine:
Video: RealVideo 3 320x240 25.00fps 901Kbps [Output 00 (Video Stream)]
Audio: RealAudio COOK 44100Hz stereo [Output 01 (Audio Stream)]

Nice But still not compare to TCPMP because it has Avi Divx Support
I agree that TCPMP player is so much better, but it is nice to have these codecs.
What kind of WM6 theme is that?
It's darker then the official Windows Mobile blue theme, installed on my HTC Touch.
Could you please upload it?

Looks like the Tmobile Wing theme...
I tried these plugins but I could not get it to play my 3gp files. Any ideas?

this does not work for me.
does not also work for me.
It appeared to be japanese? Maybe its not compatible? Im in agreeance with the others though! TCPMP is much better, It's got PLENTY of CODEC's! TCPMP FTW!
I installed this on a Touch HD, with coreplayer 1.3. It installed but WMP couldn't open anything new so i tried with Core and now CorePlayer wouldn't even open, so I uninstalled Q8. And CorePlayer Still would no longer open. soft reset..still dead Coreplayer. so i uninstalled Core.. reset and reinstalled Core... And it still no longer works. DEAD. worked great before i'll see what their support says but thought I'd give all a heads up.
Update: Haven't heard from Core Support yet so thought I'd install TCPMP in the mean time... It crashes now. installs wont run... so some thing is hosed up I searched found referenced: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-357053.html) checked and none of the files listed to manually delete exist.
can Anyone help?
hello guys
i've dwnloaded the wmp q8 all codecs and smthin wierd just happened like my htc jade aka 3g doesnt play storage card ringtones when sm1 calls or even to review them from the sounds sittings !

rmvb! that's the file i need! heh! thx alot, but i can't download from megaupload, mind if mirror'ing to mediafire>? thx
yes but does TCPMP have rmvb codecs
Thanks for the codecs
I have been searching for hours to find a player that will launch from outlook and play an .au file.
While other players would play .au files I could not get then to work from Outlook.
Don`t use the "WMP Q8 All Codec.cab"!!!
Since i have installed the cab, my handy plays nothing more and i think i have to restore it completly. It makes me angry.
with friendly reguards
I read about that this codecs only work in devices with Intel Xcale processor, like HTC Athena (x7500), , Dell Axim x50/x51 series, HP iPAQ’s...
works perfectly with Dell Axim x51v.

I always download movies uploaded by aXXo through mininova, and I can manage to find English subtitle (in [.srt] format) for almost all of his movies.
I can watch the movie using my TyTN II through Core Player or TCPMP, but not the subtitle.
Is there anyway to watch a [.avi] movie with separated [.srt] file in Core Player or TCPMP?
Thanks...
no.. as i remember correctly, you need to use special format for watching subtitles through tcpmp.. correct me someone, if i am wrong
Found this from PDA4x.
It says that TCPMP 0.81RC is able to play movie with subtitle.
I downloaded and extract the Subtitle.plg file from the zip file and put it inside TCPMP 0.72RC1 folder in my TyTN II.
And I have downloaded VobSub v2.33 (freeware) to convert my .srt file to .smi file as instructed. And put the .avi and .smi files in the same folder before I move them to the microSD.
Problem is I still can't see the subtitle.
Anyone tried this before? Must I install TCPMP 0.81RC in order to see the subtitle? (I was told 0.72RC1 is the most stable version)
Thanks...
yeah i did all that too, with 0.72 and 0.81 and still can't watch any subtitle.. you did nice converting srt to smi (supported by tcpmp) but we need some help !!
Please if someone knows how to put subtitles in TCPMP please say..
there is so many people who can't..
thanks

Well, my solution is to "re-format" .avi file I downloaded from internet using AVI ReComp and "plant" the subtitle n as well.

what about an mkv?
would i need to recode to divx and hardcode subs?
Yes.
Like xTyTN did, I use pocketdivxencoder (its free) to re-encode the divx or xvid file with the subtitle burned in. Works great.
will check out mencoder [mplayer]
we need guides for linux - perhaps i can link to one with added instructions if needed?
Here's my solution
v0.66j, 0.72RC1 and 0.81RC1 have all subtitle support.
If you installed the subtitle plugin and you don't see an "incompatible plugin" message after opening the video....
and you still don't see any subs...
then just change the video driver setting: You may be on Raw framebuffer.
Try GDI. It worked everytime i did that.
However, the SRT format support, very much expected since centuries, is still missing. We still have to convert srt's to SMI, damn!
I use Subtitle Workshop on desktop PC to convert.
Good luck to all.
The 0.81RC1 package is downloadable somewhere around the web. I forgot the adress, sorry. It's said that some of the plugings there are stolen. I don't know too much about this but the package includes everything you may need. Look for "TCMP 0.81 FOR SMARTPHONE".
Please note that the fps performance is better than 0.66j which i was obliged to use because of the AAC plugin available in it.
Try google this: Pocket DivX Encoder
I use it. It's simple, fast and create a .avi file for most PDA formats.
If your file has subtitles the program will prompt for load together when converting.
100% Working solution !

Thanks, thanks, thanks man !!! It's working on my HTC TyTn II
1. Install TCPMP 0.72RC1 + TCPMP Subtitle pluggin.
2. Open TCPMP and load your movie: File --> Open File
3. If you installed TCPMP subtitle pluggin, you have "Subtitles" settings in "Option". On main TCPMP screen, go on: Options --> Subtitles --> Open (open your .srt, .smi, .sub, . . . subtitle).
4. Now change the video settings: Options --> Video --> mark "GDI" (GDI worked on my TyTn II)
5. That is it. Subtitles should appear now.

Im using TCPMP 0.72 (not the recompiled one) with subtitle plugin, and I have no problems watching 'standard' XviD movies with SRT subtitles.
I have mad installable CAB file for subtitle plugin some time ago as well:

shows exactly an .avi movie (xvid codec) being played with .srt subtitles using TCPMP 0.72 RC1 on my WM6.1 TyTN II (ROM eOS.4.888.FIRE)

If there are SEVERAL languages within one .sub file, how do I select it??
At the moment, There's korean as the first one and english as the second. But I can't select. JUST korean shows and no settings anywhere. Besides, the "subtitle" menu doesnt even have a subtitle listed - it just has a greyed tick next to "none" (but still subs show...)
So weird case. Wish someone could help?? Thanks

COREPLAYER "my media player of choice"
I am deleting this Coreplayer post as it has since developed problems with the rom I am using. Leos version 9. I have gone back to TCPMP along with having my Kaiser changed. Sorry about that but at the time I genuinly thought the sun shined out of Coreplayers interface.
I have Coreplayer. What version do you have because mine doesn't play Flash. I still have to use TCPMP. Luckily, I got my Skyfire invite so I can watch online videos. I will agree that Coreplayer is lightyears ahead of TCPMP. Does anyone know if you can upgrade to newer version or do you have to buy it again?

Best in Class audio and video codecs like CoreAVC our High Definition H.264 video decoder
CoreTheque media library allows for easy management of your playlists and bookmarks
It for everything inclding mp3 playback . It plays my YouTube choices straight out of the box from linking automatically to links in Pocket Microsoft explorer. It also plays flv flash movies such as animations (I use it for University projex) Not alot it doesn't do really. Tons of formats to choose should you want to use it for default player on your ppc.
The best thing of all is the volume which by using the software graphic and pre-amp is VERY loud if you need it so. It us also controllable via a bluetooth headset. I use a motorolla s9 and they rock. Track selecting from the buttons on your ear is as easy as it gets.
Coreplayer also has a ton of included options and tweaks to make it perfect to your own spec.Take a look at there website see what you think. Incidently if you didnt already know it is crafted from the same hands that built TCPMP player. Its just created better for commercial puposes.
And it has been built with included support for the Kaiser/Tilt HTC phones for increased quality playback.
Oh and the GUI looks great the buttons are nice looking and everything is there such as playback time left volume slider, time select slider.

Hi Guys,
I really want to show off the screen quality of my TD2 to all my mates especially those ith iphones, ive the core media player which i must say is very good, whats is the highest quality video i could play on the phone?
I download the film Role Models which was a DVDrip axxo, but there was a lot of jurking.
Also whats the best video converter, im using "any video converter" at the moment but unsure which is the;-
1. best film format
2. best videso bit rate
3. best frame rate
our phones can handle
Thanks for any help anyone can input.....cheers
come on people, no one knw the answer to these questions?!
My experience is you can't expect to play most DVD rips from the web, the combination of the full D1 (DVD) resolution and the usual bitrates is just too much for the Diamond2. You would need a dedicated media player like an Archos for that.
You can play DVD resolution rips if the maximum bitrate is much reduced (to 700 - 1000kbps) or you can play higher bitrate movies if the resolution is reduced to less than DVD. Either way you'll have to transcode the movie which is a pain.
From what I read in a Touch HD review, Divx encoded (avi) movies were the most successful.
There is one way to play downloaded DVD rips on the D2. You have to go to Coreplayers settings and reduce "video quality" from "high" to "medium". Then it plays without jerkiness, but the picture quality is s**t. Not good if you're trying to show it off to your mates.
Thanks for the response Peter, appreciate it! Ive just download a few more movies, Iron Man and Madagascar, both run amazingly. suffice to say mates were impressed and my archos 404 is heading towards the bin
I'm glad your credibility (and that of the brilliant D2) was salvaged! Current Archos players belong in the bin

You can also use Vuze. I use it to download the music videos torrents, and it transcodes automatically every file downloaded, so, no hassle. Just set it up the way you like your vidz converted, then off you go, mate.
Of course, for the record, dowloading movies is illegal if you don't own the DVD, and if you do, then you don't have to download that movie again, and blah blah blah.
Please refrain giving titles here, or the MPAA will come get your ass.
to the above poster...
what settings / res / file types (.avi / mp4) do i need to set Vuze too?? I'm new at windows mobile and most stuff really lol.
cheers!!
Thanks for the awesome feedback guys.....
been reading through and it seems like these would be the best settings using Super Video Converter and playing in Core media player
Settings below:
1. swf or flv (Flash) container
2. Flash Video codec
3. mp3 Audio codec
4. DirectShow off
5. 580x348 widescreen 1.6 ratio resolution
6. framerate according to source video for keeping sync
7. 2544 kbps video bitrate
8. High Quality Checked
9. 44100 Freq audio
10. Stereo audio
11. 112 kbps Audio bitrate
But note as these are the best settings for the HD, would point 5. the video scale size 580x348 be ok for the TD2 as we have asmaller screen but same resolution?

The first thing that I did when I got my d2 was the test the video improvements.
So,
1. Go and dl those HD videos encoded by me from here....(50MB) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=43OGWM5R
or the same from here -> http://uploading.com/files/1R5GNAQK/kraft_d2_mp4.zip.html
2. Don't use Core player to play them because CP has no drivers for Hardware video acceleration for HTC D2. Its not their fault, they just don't have the drivers becouse HTC is not giving them.... The only player that uses hardware acceleration is the default Windows Media Player or HTC Album (video player).... WM don't have support for all the popular codecs so u need this #3.
3. HTC Touch HD Video Converter to convert to mp4. This is free (or donate) but slow encoder.
You can find lots of HD videos here, at Windows Mobile Video HD Content Showcase.
Or here....
Any way, those are the best "TO MP4" encoder setings...
Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 800x480 (with aspect ratio) 25.00fps
Audio: AAC 44100Hz stereo 1411Kbps [Audio]
- If your source videos are SD (DVD, PAL etc), use the default 600 Kit/s or cubit/s.
- If your source videos are HD (1080p/720p), use 750kbit/s.[/I]

Most of the standard and low quality movies will run smoothly with Core player..
Download, try and compare the example HQ videos from the first line from the post above....
Unfortunatly, Core player has no hardware video acceleration drivers (long and ver old HTC story) so you cant even compare it with WM player for HQ video playback....

KraFT your a Legend, just encoded a few of the windows HD clips and there Amazing. This is a must do....
Haha I've opened a topic just today describing the video formats and all that.
Too bad I didn't come by this post first though....
I'm using formatfactory right now for my conversion, since you can actualy convert ANYTHING to EVERYTHING with it....but i'll try the stuff above, since I have to set my quality really low (though there's no loss of filmquality whatsoever, it does lag, like 18 to 20 frames a sec.)
if this works better and easier, props to you man,
if it doesn't, you'll be hearing from me.....!
Allright, you got me convinced. one of the most important imrpovements is the framerate. though my setup shows just a very smaal decrease of framarate, i like my movies totaly smooth. mine play 20 or 21 frames right now, while this is just that bit nicer .
Quality though, is a bit worse.....but i'm talking maybe 1% loss of quality, actualy only noticable when played on a desktop computer, but still....plus the files are much bigger....but it's not a problem for me, I have 8 gig SD card and tons of space left.
thx for this wonderfull thing! I'm encoding some of my favourites (la haine, kill bill 1 and 2) directly
thx again!
-EDIT-
Did manage to find another downside on ecnoding with this tool. The options for it are by far not as great as formatfactory or Super!......that's a shame, since I usualy use direct converting from DVD, which is not supported by this converter. i'm trying my luck using your settings in my converter
Guys. For the drivers, it's not HTC fault. It's QUALCOMM's fault. somebody should really sue their ass, dammit, it's becoming unfair competition.
And btw, using CorePlayer i've never had any problems. but the bitrate should be less than 800 tho.
I have a problem playing some mp4 movies. I have downloaded about 5 movies, 3 work perfect!! But the other 2 just play a green screen? audio is fine but just get a bright green screen.
Any ideas guys as to what this might be?
Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 800x480 (with aspect ratio) 25.00fps
this is all wrong for me, if i use resolution 800x480 with default Streaming Videos program (came with my mobile) then this resolution does not fit at all.
(I use my phone on the side NOT vertical)
tbh 480x272 looked better on my screen

Do you have HTC D2?
In the HTC camcorder even you choose the encoding method as MPEG it would save the file as 3gp, but with this it will save the file as mp4. I had to modify a few smali files to get it working.
This is only changing the extension. The videos are already being recorded in an mpeg-4 stream, they are just being created with a .3gp extension. This is really only for people who need the extension to be mp4 for some specific reason.
I have tested this a bit so be sure to back up your original HTCCamera.apk just in case.
Download it here.
As you can see below, nothing with the encoding has changed.

Does this also change the audio codec to something useable like AAC? Love your roms, use them and enjoy them heavily, mp4 usable on the ps3 would be amazing!

No, I can't change how its encoded. This is only changing the extension. The videos are already being recorded in an mpeg-4 stream, they are just being created with a .3gp extension.
Can you make 720p or any other recording resolution do > 30fps. The framerate on 720p is garbage.

Nope, I have no idea how to do that... This wasn't very difficult, it just took some digging.
720p at 30 fps is fine. The problem is that we aren't hitting that fps.
Can't squeeze blood from a turnip, and you cannot make hardware do something its unable to with the current OS.
As for aac audio streams, I doubt this phone supports it. I know where to change it, but so do a lot of people, esp. on the N1 forums. I've not heard of a successful case yet. Not even CM6 does it.
Before i flashed to your newest rom, i decided to try this on the existing rom.. Took footage of my room and what do you know, streams to the ps3 just fine.. But i pressed select and the Audio had dolby digital in it, meaning sound worked.. I took another video but this time played a song. Tried it and it worked!!!
This is AMAZING news! Before i had to sit there and convert the videos and they usually ended up not even working, now using PS3 Media Server, they work no problem. Thanks so much, you should take a look for the Evo guys and get it fixed for them as well if you can, i have a feeling all my evo owning family members are going to want in!
If you folks want to see if the aac audio codec will work, you can try this. Install it via clockwork, but make a nandroid.

Well, i look forward to this .MP4 mod cooked into your next Rom, also, the recent WIFItether AP mode. Which by the way works great on your #2 Rom. Great Work.

Im just about to re-flash/wipe the whole phone, would i need a nandroid for any reason?
Is it possible to record videos that use H.264 when res set to 720p?it should improve its 720p quality.it can only set to WVGA when it uses H.264.
Used the AAC Flash zip. Tried another video, using PS3 media server, it played fine with audio. Decided to plug the phone strait to the PS3 and try it there, Unsupported data on all 3 mp4 files. So no dice on native, but works streamed which is what i wanted in the first place.
I was digging through some files on the stock froyo kernel last week and it seems that they may have added mp4 as a container option, although I haven't loaded up the .zip to check.

Are you using Twonky server to connect to ps3 as a media server... or you got something better?

Use PMS (PS3 Media Server). Everything else is a joke.
quepaso- PMS is for windows/mac/linux correct? so your saving newly encoded media files to a computer then accessing via the ps3 not connecting android to connect to ps3 directly via a media server. correct?
Yes, i just copy the mp4 file to my media server pc (it houses all my music, pictures and blu-ray movies that get streamed to the ps3s in the house), and the ps3 plays them back fine.
I am not streaming directly from the phone because that would be insanely slow. My entire house is wired with ethernet.
hmm... im getting unsupported data error from ps3.
vid records just fine and is stored as mp4 with the acc zip installed... i then i moved video from android to desktop.
When i access the file from ps3 via PMS i can see the file (even with the thumbnail preview)but clicking it causes it to go "unsupported"
any ideas?
Try mediainfo to see what the contents of the container are
mediainfo.sourceforge.net
Will all do respect Quepaso implied that the mp4 extension was already supported by the ps3. If I have to convert from .mp4 to another supported output what's the point in having the vids save as mp4 in the first place?

I have got a new Nokia Lumia 1320.
Is there an app launcher to install apps like there are launchers in Android devices?
Is a free media player that supports most formats like .avi .mp4 .mkv .flv? Or that which is free in some countries?

1. No, but there are programs like Skinery Themes, or Transparent Icons, Cool Tiles and 8.1 HD Tiles that can help make your desktop like you want, there are and other programs, i listed only those I know.
2. Although not entirely free, Moli Player Pro is fully functional in trial version with some limitations, but you can watch approx. any video format.
1. thanks for themers, I'm waiting for 8.1, no need for themers
So there are no launchers hmm
2.Moliplayer Pro free does not play .mkv and .flv. It only plays .mp4 and .avi, and that too not all .avi as some movies it didn't play. IF I purchase it once and uninstall it and want to install it after 2 months, will I have to pay or where it gets recorded that I installed particular apps.

It's just you need to know some specifics in how to operate and where to put those movie files, as there are some limitations in WP 8.0 ( should dissapear in 8.1 ), there are help videos when you open the app. to guide you in understandin better how it woks.
If you purchase the app it get's linked to your Microsoft account that you used on the device you purchased it from, so if after a period you'll want to reinstall the app you just need to be sure you're using the same account, and all will be smooth an cool.
All that must be in paid version of Moliplayer
Anyway in free version it shows thumbnails with some snapshot of video for some .avi movies, but does not play it.... so they were at the right place. It asks me to pay for it to play that format.
Can we check all apps installed or previously installed on phone in the Microsoft Account on computer? where?

Why is there no free version available of VLC media player its like for free for every other existing device and OS, except for win 8 mobile
I have MX player and it plays MKV and AVI. I also think there is a free version that works perfectly fine.
Edit. Yeah in fact I have the free version and it great.
