Is there an online service and software that enables you to synch and share securely files and photos so that i can access all my files from anywhere in the world. Would also be useful if it natively synchronized changes to files. Was looking at sharepoint but not sure if there is a more suitable personal service enabling photo hosting and file hosting all in one place.
For accessing files on your pc, you can use ORB, which allows you to access (and stream) media and other files from your pc.
I do use orb but I was loking for an online hosting service
There are loads of free online storage companies, offering up to 50gb but not with synching, that I know of.

I need some advice on where to get some web hosting.. I basically need LOADS of disk space, LOADS of bandwidth
Needs to be relatively cheap though, im not rich :?
Thanks.
Erm this may not be exactly what you're after, kind of depends what you want.
I use a little proggy called no-ip (www.no-ip.com). It's free and creating your own website with WHATEVER name you want (as long as it's not taken) is FREE. ALSO you no NOT need to pay your service provider for a static IP address.
no-ip turns your computer (at home) into an internet server itself & the no-ip website automatically resolves your selected website name to the dynamic IP of your PC. Using your PC as a web server means that you can use WHATEVER web services YOU want for FREE. (I use Apache for my website itself - when I can be arse to run it that is)
Oh, and another thing, the amount of webspace you can have is limited purely by the available disk space on your PC, i.e. HUNDREDS of megabytes - again for FREE.
The only down side is that you (obviously) have to keep your PC on all the time.
The cool thing about this (for others reading) is that before I go to work, I fire up my PC & clickiity click no-ip into life, turn off the monitor & sod off to work. When I'm at work & in a lull period, I CAN REMOTE DESKTOP my PC at HOME from WORK. Ha!!!! No more restriced websites & site monitoring - Who-hoo! (Oh, that's only as long as someone else, e.g. the bloody wife - isn't using the PC as well)
Andy
Thanks for your reply...
I cant be doing with all the hassle really m8.. I have found these:
www.simtu.com
I have signed up to them on the advanced plan, 25GB of space and unmetered bandiwdth lol
Hi Guys
I hope someone can help here, my Kaiser has office mobile but does nto have access built into this package
Is there a version of MS Access for WM6 at all and if so where can I find it?
Thanks
TW
www.kaione.com
sprintdb is probably the best option, but their sync is not yet compatible with active sync 4.5!!!!
Will this work with MS Access 2003 files though?
I use a Access DB a lot for one application and rather than converting query results to XLS files to view on my kaiser can i view access files while out on the move.
I am not worried about synch functions as i will simple upload the file to the device.
Check out www.syware.com they have database products. I used their product for several years when I was on the road.
You can get Access for windows mobile, i have a TYTN2 from orange UK and it is pre loaded with office, word, excel, powerpoint and access. I'm not sure where you can get an upgrade but it must be out there.
HandBase from ddh software is my favourite. If you get the professional version ($40) it comes with a PC sync conduit and forms designer. You can then link MSaccess tables directly to tables on your device and when you activesync they sync up too.
Worth downloading the demo.

Anyone know of free solutions to allow local testing of web pages on a tilt?
In my free time I write HTML, and I'm curious about how I can include this in my Tilt so I don't have to be home or use an FTP server to test the pages. I can already do uploads VIA Total Commander, but I want to test before I upload!
Also, SQL Servers on mobile, I suppose that'd be a funny joke right?
(Yes, I tried searching, but 'web' 'server' and 'mobile' are too common! If I knew the name of some software I could do further research)
I call BS. "Web server windows mobile" comes up with several results.
And there is a mobile SQL server, called SQLCE by MicroSoft.
half-true, I did see 2 pieces of software in the search, but was also looking for feedback on them as well as comments from anyone that also tried the same thing...
I'm currently giving http://www.sphinx-soft.com/MWS/order.html Mobile Web Server a shot.
For the latest MS SQL Server Mobile Edition, have a look here:
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/editions/compact/default.mspx
Of course, don't expect the same performance you get with the standard one
The main issue would be finding a web server which can interface with sql server...
There's also PocketHPH which is a lightweight webserver with PHP scripting support!
http://mobileleap.net/hph/ - it's a (maybe crippled) free-for-dev/personal-use demo, with commercial licensing available, looks like.
There's also an FTP server for PPC
There's an FTP server called ShareitFTP for PPC. It's commercial software:
http://www.noisette-software.com/products/pocketpc/ShareIt
I've played with it before, it seems pretty decent.. does users and folders and such.

Hi there,
I was just wondering if anyone knows of file storage sites that have mobile friendly pages. Something like DropBox would be ideal.
Today I am on a library computer and have a folder of word files I really want to read on my Magic on the train on my way home but can't use USB to mount my SD. I tried zipping and emailing it to myself but gmail didn't let me download the zip file. I had a preview option but that just tried and failed to open it in Astro. I love Zoho writer's mobile version for viewing files but that doesn't let me batch import. Most free backup services have hugely bloated web clients and wouldn't play nicely with a mobile browser.
Anyone heard of such services/apps?
Setup an FTP server at home and use AndFTP on your phone to connect to it. It's probably the easiest and then you also have full control over your own files. FileZilla server is free and fairly easy to setup.

For that you'd have to let your PC run when you're away... pretty useless.
You turn your computer off when you're away? :O
Pretty useless reply if I may say so.
@rahux: Did you try uploading files without zipping them? It may be a hassle if there are many files... Maybe you could just rename the zip file to .txt or something like that and you may be able to download it.

If it is just word files you want to view. Upload the files to google docs. Then get 'gdocs' from the market and away you go.
Hi. Does any body know how to transfer an ms excel file from my desktop to HD7.
Officially, I believe it's via skydrive, but I've not quite got the hang of it yet. Your best bet is probably to email it to yourself, to be honest!
I also thought skydrive would be the key, but having been into the Office App a few times I can't figure out where the files would be. All I can see is the option for Sharepoint.
Any info on viewing skydrive office files on wp7 would be appreciated.
Email is the only option at the moment, unless your company uses sharepoint. I think I read somewhere that Skydrive support was being added in a future update.
OneNote does sync very well over skydrive though.
I'm sure I read somewhere that you could get the files from skydrive.live.com via the browser on the phone, but I have no signal here to test. Anyone want to have a go?
Just tested, and actually it does work! Very well infact. Skydrive has quite a nice mobile site. You see a preview of the spreadsheet in the browser and a button to download it to edit on the phone.
I never realised you could download anything from the browser like that!
Check out the Office section page of Paul Thurrott's excellent Windows Phone 7 review:
http://www.winsupersite.com/mobile/wp7_05.asp
I'm hoping improvements will be included in the update early next year.
It would appear that you can download spreadsheets but not word docs from skydrive, still a nice feature! I have set my skdrive mobile page as a tile for ease of access
I can get word docs too. Although they do get squashed up on the phone.
is there a mobile version of the skydrive site as i get the full pledged web page and when I'm out and about might be best to get a simpler one.
Do you have your IE settings to 'desktop version'?
you should use the following:
Settings -> Applications -> Internet Explorer -> 'Mobile Version'.

SkyDrive will be integrated into the Office hub a la Sharepoint in the coming updates.

As soon as i posted i realized i had desktop version turned on, though it would be good if there was an address to go to the mobile page even with it turned on like say www.m.live.skydrive.com or something.
Don't know if I'm right but I thought files could be synced with the zune software? (dont have my win 7 phone in the us yet)
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Sky drive works but the issue with using sky drive is that when you download and save a file on you mobile phone, you cannot manage or place them into different folders. Is there any folder option for managing our documents ?

Nope. The only files Zune can sync would be its own library. Music, videos, podcasts, etc. But no files, pdfs, etc. Essentially, if you can't add it to Zune now (and Zune currently only handles media), there is no way for you to get it on the phone.
That being said, the Windows Phone 7 browser can handle downloading of files, including ZIPs, PDFs, Office documents, etc. So either e-mail yourself a file, or download it through SkyDrive (or another online storage system) through the browser.

Also, not possible at this point in time. They just show up in your Office hub as a list of files. No way to organize them... yet.
