PIE locks up on Kaiser with standaed ROM - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Not sure what causes it but lately my PIE locks up such that i see the title bar when i switch to PIE from another app ut nothing else.
tried clearing cookies and files....wondered if it only happened in switches from portrait to landscape but it seems random.
no task manager wioo close PIE and the only fix is a soft reset.
tried searching to see if this was a common issue but couldnt find anything. anyone's help would be appreciated

Did you move the cache to the storage card? PIE doesn´t seem to like that....

No, my cache goes on the device.
I've looked at other threads dealing with lockup and they all talk about the whole unit or temporary lockups with PIE.
This is strange behavior in that the rest of the apps work fine, and I can "close" PIE but if I open it again, all I get is the title bar with no window below it (I still see what was on the screen before whether it be the Today screen or another application).

I thought I was the only one having this funny problem on my device. But the difference is that the problem is solved when I exit PIE and launch it again. My cache is on the device too.

Strange problems (wifi, top toolbar, some unusual force closes) after froyo update

Hi there guys, I have a few problems,
1.)
I have unusual problem (like no one had before )... Sometimes I get an error when I try to enable wifi over top toolbar (on my Samsung Galaxy S). Wifi is like frozen, no signs of activity or whatsoever. When I go to setting tab and see wifi state it is shaded button and after some time it states "Error" just below same shaded button. When I click on it after it states error sometimes it fixes it self (i.e. turns wifi on), and sometimes I have to reboot it to work.
2.)
This one is a more strange than unusual problem )... Sometimes as it is some kind of collision, when I scroll down my top toolbar it just remains opened as big as a little line no more than half an centimeter of a width. And I can't get it down to fully see information (since after installation of some widget or application or when I receive mail there is everything summarized up there). I don't know if I had installed some game or app or widget which interferes with standard top toolbar?
3.)
Some force closes when browsing Internet (via stock browser) or checking mail (via gmail app) are really annoying, but I was looking for related problems here on forum and it looks like "nothing unusual" for Froyo users....
Are there any solutions to these problems or any related thread that I have missed in my search so you can reference me to or if you can give me some solutions or at least explanations of these strange/unusual problems?
Thank you in forward . I really love this community and one day I will do Android programming too. I really need a kick start (this is not topic related question) ... can you tell me how can I get some applications fast up and running and which books/video tutorials to use to quickly become android developer / how much time is needed (I have devotion and zeal in my toolbox and I have some programming background in Java )?
Respect!
Factory reset?
Well I really want to avoid that solution any other suggestion?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I have all problems you describe as well, I did a factory reset (3 times in total since froyo - for these reasons. the last time I formatted the internal SD card as well, just to be sure) and they remain.
The notification bar might be caused by an app, I am still not sure, but I disabled my quick settings shortcut in the bar and the 3G watchdog notification which indicated I am using 3G and it has not happened since. Rebooting the phone also works.
I have the WIFI thing as well, it happens and works exactly like you say, I press it again and it fixes itself - or not. Weird.
Browser force close and gmail force close happens here as well.
I am contemplating bringing it to a service center but I am unsure if that will solve anything or if it's just buggy Samsung software? Any ideas?
Froyo - Galaxy S - Status Bar Problems
Any one guys? Are we only two people on the internet having this issue?
Can someone at least elaborate a bit?

Notification bar is automatically closing

I have googled and searched everywhere and can't even find someone else having this issue. I have about a 2 week old note 8, and it happens any time, but I have made sure that it wasn't because the phone was locked, but for example, with the screen unlocked from the home page, I can pull down the notification bar, start scrolling down through my notifications and the whole bar will disappear, like I scrolled from the bottom to close it but didn't. Sometimes I swipe it down and it closes immediately, other times I can swipe it down and scroll through all my notifications and it will stay open, and sometimes it will close as I'm scrolling. I would think it was an issue with the touch sensor on the screen but in no other app does it randomly scroll anywhere. I've tried restarting the phone multiple times, with no fix. It just started doing this either yesterday or the day before and I can't think of any apps that I installed that would maybe cause anything like that. I haven't completely reset the phone because I don't want to and it would be pretty bad to have to reset it after 2 weeks.. Does anybody have any other thoughts or similar thing happening?
Is it possible that you have the fingerprint unlock set to allow you to pull down and push up the notification shade?
There is already a thread discussion for this. You are not the only one with this problem, I have it also.

thanks for the update. Didn't see that thread before. Looks like its not an isolated issue then..
I am hoping this will be a firmware/software issue. I currently have very little installed on my phone, so I am thinking it's fixable.

home screen and apps not staying in memory?

So as of late my brand new device keeps having to refresh the home screen every time I exit an app.
Also apps that are open already always have to reload when going back into them from the recent apps menu.
It just started happening randomly. It's very annoying. I've done a hardware check on the device and everything passes. Samsung store also didn't find a hardware issue on the device.
I have 42GB of free storage space left. I only ever have 1-3 Apps open at the same time and I've done a hard reboot of the device.
Anyone else have this problem? What can I do?
Did you activate Developer Options", i.c. the one "Do not keep Activities"?
No
Think I may have fixed the issue. I cleared data in touchwiz home, and now my apps are staying in memory and home screen doesn't refresh.
Not sure what would be caused it or why it would've fixed it though?
?????...
If your home screen was reloading it sounds like a touchwiz or launcher glitch
Yeah but why would that have made my apps not stay in memory?

Toast "Disabling screen overlays for 10 seconds"

Yesterday a toast I guess you would call it because it's not the normal gray color started showing up quite frequently on my phone. I haven't made any changes or installed new apps recently with the exception of about 8 malware scanners. I installed one at a time scanned then uninstalled. I'm at a loss for what could be causing this and how to fix it. I tried resetting the app preferences regarding draw over other apps but the problem persists. I Googled it with no results so I put it in quotes for a more specific search and it turned up absolutely zero. It troubles me to ever have in there but even more so that it's one I haven't seen before. I included a screenshot because sometimes it pops up multiple times in a row back to back so it was easy to capture. I'm hoping somebody has at least saw this before. I'm on Android 7.1.1 unrooted unlocked Note 8. Any help or ideas is appreciated.
Nobody has even seen this before? I turned off every single thing on the draw over other apps section of settings including system apps and it still keeps popping up.
Try booting in safe mode to see if it still happens

Frozen screen after waking up screen

At some point after upgrading to Android 9 I started having the following issue where if the screen turns off due to inactivity and I turn it back on by pressing the power button, I see whatever screen I had open before it went to sleep but it's frozen. Scrolling touching etc still perform (invisible) actions but the screen is frozen until I either press the app switch button or perform some action that would change the current application. While the screen is frozen the drawer from the top works just fine. Also when the app that gets frozen is the desktop (I'm using the default launcher), I can see the background scrolling if I swipe left or right but the widgets don't change, they are frozen.
Does anyone else have the same problem? Any ideas what could be causing it?

FWIW I have not really solved the problem but I am circumventing it by having the screen lock immediately instead of waiting 5 minutes. That way I have to unlock with a fingerprint every time the screen is off, and unlocking refreshes the screen which "fixes" the problem.

There were lot of reports of glitchy phones after the Pie update.
The cure was a factory reset or software repair with Xperia Companion
Use Xperia Transfer to back up your calls/contacts/texts before you reset the phone

Can you please link a thread, where users told, that problem is solved after reset?
I have the same frozen display (since Android Pie), when turning display off and on again.
Don´t wish to reset and install all again, if that does not help.
bye,
Ralf

Hi Ralf,
the phone will always work better with a reset after a major update, all the Oreo applications are trying to work under Pie. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Oreo apps aren't made to work under Pie and they can error.
here, is one example, or another, but I didn't jump to Pie because of all the negative feedback and the scores of people trying to downgrade.
A reset will fix your problem and if you use Xperia transfer then the amount of personal information lost will be minimal.
Thanks for the links.

This sounds to me, the combination of "old" Navi-apps with Pie is the problem. May be only with Pie on some Sonys.
I'm afraid, a reset will not change the frozen display.
All other apps till now do not freeze after display-on except MagicEarth and Osmand+
This 2 apps i deinstalled (+ deleting the data) and installed again.

Xperia transfer shows me only 2 apps for backup.
I'll probably try a reset in the next few days anyway.

Looks like there is know issue with the Osmand+, the date of the post is may last year, but it may just be a 'feature'
When backing up with Xperia transfer, make sure you select all the boxes that are optional. It's things like text messages/contacts/phone history that are useful after a reset. Some apps can't be moved and have to be downloaded directly from the playstore, but Google should give you that option, after you log back in to the wiped phone.
Edit: I can recomend Sygic, free maps for one country, works without data.
In the meantime, I found more users with this problem and a little solution that another user describes:
I can confirm I have the exact same issue since Android 9 with my Xperia xz1 compact.
I normally have no lockscreen options set. So when I wakeup the Phone, it sometimes kind of 'locks' the screen. Widgets do not respond, I cannot switch home screens. The time on the status bar remains correct. If I then click on an app and go back, everythning behaves normally.
So I'm quite sure this must be a software issue, as other people have this problem to.
My workaround for now is to have a lockscreen option aktive. But I would rather have not, for conveniance.
I tested this also with safe mode and complete factory reset of the phone. The 'bug' is still there.

If I disable lockscreen, then apps stop when it is switched on again. However, I always have to enter pin or use fingerprint sensor, or smart lock.
This often does not work when cycling and is dangerous when cardriving.
On Android 8, the lockscreen did not need to be active.
So the problem is not Osmand and MagicEarth.
It is a Sony 9 bug with Android 9.
bye,
Ralf
Found in an other forum an easy method to reproduce the problem.
disable the screen lock (it must be set to "None");
lock the phone and then unlock it;
lock and unlock it again.

Because I believe that Sony will not fix the error, I could imagine a solution:
An app (possibly tasker), which puts a selectable running app from foreground while pressing the power button in the background and immediately brings it back to the foreground.
Does anyone know such a tool?

Ralf
