Hi.
After hours of searching and reading here and endless talks with my mobileoperator without any luck, I turn to this fantastic community for your help.
My mobileoperator offers a "newspackage" which includes access to livestreaming of some of their tv programs. These are supposed to be viewed in Streaming Media, but I can't get it to work. I get a "Network cannot be found" error. It works on my Hermes, so I'm wondering if this is due to the lack of videodriver or if it's something else TyTNII related? All I can find here when searching is solutions to YouTube viewing problems.
Does anyone have any ideas or something I can try?
I'm using an original HTC WM 6.0 ROM (5.2.1620 18125.0.4.2) DK-version, but I don't mind to have a WWE version of Streaming Media, if that's gonna fix my problem.
Thank you in advance.
How is the media streamed?
Through RTSP, MMS, HTTP, ASX,...?
Normally this can be seen by checking the 'prefix' of the link or the extension.
I presume you have already tested every possible type of data connection to stream the data? (Wifi, EDGE, UMTS, 3G - whichever is applicable)

On AT&T here in USA, I get this error if the hidden proxy is enabled. Don't know if you have a proxy with your carrier - if you do, try disabling it.

Thank you for your reply.
It's streamed through RTSP..
I have tried a lot of different settings and even a few versions of HTC Streaming applications, without luck. When I first had my Hermes it didn't work, but after installing a Dopod 838 ripped Streaming player, I had it running.. Sad thing is, I can't find a similar rip for the Kaiser..

No proxy...
I have done a lot of testing myself some time ago because I wanted to stream my own media over Wifi to my Kaiser.
But I never got it to work.
I had 2 RTSP servers running: VLC player and Live555 Media server.
=> Connecting over PC to the RTSP server: no problem
=> Connecting over home network (Wifi) to RTSP server (my PC) with Kaiser: NOT working
I tried the following apps:
Streaming Media app
Windows Media
TCPMP
Coreplayer
RealOne Player
PocketTV
VLC player PocketPC edition (discontinued project)
mPlayer PocketPC release
Absolutely none of these applications worked... Every app produced its own error.
(I switched to Orb but that is not relevant to your problem)
NOTE: Coreplayer v1.2, which will be released later today (21 Feb '08), will support RTSP. This might solve the problem...
Check these threads: http://www.corecodec.com/forums/index.php?topic=717.0

Hi Doc
I'm really happy for your advise. I'll keep my fingers crossed for the new release of Coreplayer, and hope that it will solve my problem.
Thank you, Sir.
Confirmed: CorePlayer 1.2 works with RTSP streaming
Hi Dr. Strangelove.
Thank you again, for your superb answers and possible sollutions to my question. I just downloaded CorePlayer 1.2 and .... tadaaa.... I have streaming video now. It's gonna be a great weekend!

Hi all,
Am tearing my hair out trying to figure this one out! I've got:
Windows Media
Coreplayer
GSPlayer
(Flash, not sure if this is needed)
All installed, as I'd like to listen to a radio station stream that I work on/manage the internet stream/technical setup for.
However it just won't connect at all! I have managed to play another shoutcast stream, but still never managed to get this one working.
Can anyone advise on why this could be? The stream in question is:
http://mobile:[email protected]:8000/hartlepool-mp3
Which works fine on all other players on the PC, etc, but cannot seem to figure why its not working on my Kaiser.
Thoughts/things to try, etc please!!
Can't see the link in full to analyse, or click it to open it.
Please repost it, perhaps not as a link but just as text and I'll take a look in the morning.
Cheers,
Joe
Oh strange when I pasted the link it was just a link, must have been the forum software that auto-linked it. Here it is, just cut the spaces out
http :// mobile:user @ arctic.thebmwz3.co.uk:8000/hartlepool-mp3
I've been trying a few other things here, and still cannot seem to figure out what is wrong with the stream/player on my Kaiser.
I've tried changing the stream from mp3 to ogg, same problem, have also set it not to require the username/password authentication, same problem.
Not sure what to try, anyone??
I stream a few stations, here's what I did;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=350675
Good Luck.
Thanks for the tips, unfortunately since this is a small UK regional/community station that I operate, it isn't in any public listings, so cannot stream via pages or other links.
The bit i'm struggling with is why the kaiser won't stream the link, as its a fairly standard CBR mp3 streamed from icecast2 at 64kbps/22kHz and I cannot stream either over 3G or wlan when I'm at home, so that negates and proxy or anything like that with my cell provider, so it looks like I'm struggling with some form of incompatibility with my audio applications and the stream that I'm running.
Help! Don't suppose any kind souls out there can try my stream I posted and see if they can play it on their kaiser?
Thanks everyone for your input, its been driving me mad this!!

I tried the stream as posted, with .mp3 rather than -mp3, and without the mobile:[email protected] both as . and -
It couldn't even find the stream! Kept saying the file (etc, not typing the whole message) could not be found. Tried it on a couple of other streams for local radio I know of in South Wales, and it was fine. Couldn't seem to handle Radio 1 tho, but no loss there...
I have no clue about streams, so can't help with what might be wrong, but least this confirms that a Kaiser and WMP will run streaming internet radio. Maybe there is something on the config that a PPC couldn't handle? Does this stream work for you:
http://gmga.planetwideradio.com/RealWales
Thanks Steve, thats what I was wondering. Yes your link works fine which confirms that the streaming to my WM kaiser is fine, its obviously how I'm handling my own stream.
Interesting that you've tried all the combinations that I did, and with no luck, and yes very strange it doesn't find the feed at all and errors with unknown url, etc, I'm wondering if its somehow because the stream runs on port 8000 instead of 80?
However, in pocket IE, you can get to http://arctic.thebmwz3.co.uk:8000/ which is the admin for my icecast2 server, so PIE does seem to accept the alternative port too.
I'm very confused! I'm going to post to the icecast2 forum to see if there are any answers, but anyone else can give me any pointers too??
Cheers!
Right,
Chatting to the Icecast streaming developers, they suspected the authentication being the problem.
So I disabled authentication and sure enough the stream connected immediately, so I suspect there is a bug in the internet/backend on the WM that doesn't interpret multiple colons correctly, as obviously I had two in the URL, one for the TCP port number to use, and one to separate the username/password.
So think thats the problem.
Mobile YouTube:

Just upped a video and tried searching on the mobile site. It was searchable and could view it with the HTC Streaming program.
This is why i made this post:

The whole reason for me posting this cab is because youtube changed the way that files are played. So the TCPMP and FLV plugins no longer work.
EDIT: There is a new flashvideobundle released fixing the youtube with tcpmp problem.. The link is below. Includes the right version of TCPMP also..

Seems ok for me, it open up stream media player and connecting......, still connecting......, only gprs availble right now, might take a little bit longger time. Looks going to connecting forever!!! No luck!
Could it be that youtube have blocked non-us ip-addresses?
When I click connect it pops up a dialog with a box that has:
rtsp://
In it. I tried putting http://m.youtube.com and rtsp://m.youtube.com - it errors with invalid URL.
Any idea how to proceed?
Found out that some mobile operators doesn't allow direct access to internet, hence rtsp protocol won't work.
However found that tcmp + flashbundle works great.
Note: this is for the non-mobile site, www.youtube.com
Might be a little more bandwith demanding.

Yup, as has also been explained in several of my Mobile YouTube-related articles. Unfortunately, the majority of them use NAT.

I guess it's because Opera Mini re-directs the page to another one which re-processes the page itself so that you can view it on your mobile... Ok, the explanation is not very detailed and professional
Anyway, it works like that.... at least, I read that!
I have searched the site and found a bunch of threads on viewing you tube vids, however there are so many post edits etc. that I can't follow which .cab etc we are supposed to be using.
I have downloaded that TCMP and the new version of flashget but still no luck.
Can someone that has a tilt please post what they are using and if it works on this thread - many thanks!!!!
I simply go the mobile version of you tube (m.ca.youtube.com). When I click on a video link the HTC Streaming application (which came with my Kaiser) starts up and plays the video. That simple.
Two notes, however;
1) Over my WiFi connection I need to configure my wifi router to put my Kaiser in the "DMZ - Demilitarized Zone" so as to allow full access to the internet. Otherwise the RTSP streaming fails and the HTC Streaming application complains about an inability to access the connection.
2) Streaming doesn't work over GPRS for me. This is most likely due to my cell phone carrier not allowing full internet access (much like when I don't have my WiFi router configured to put my Kaiser in the DMZ).
To use the "proper" YouTube, as opposed to the mobile version, you need these two .cabs:

I searched too but all I found was some blurbs about youtube changing addressed and wifi in DMZ mode (which neither seemed to apply)

Follow these steps & pay attention...
Dude, Seriously...You may have read the thread, but you really need to pay attention to what you read. FLASHGET??? FLASH LITE??? Both of these have NO IMPACT on playing flash video.
What you need is:
(A) TCPMP either .72 or .81 (You said you have)
(B) FlasVideoBundle
Instal This:
http://rapidshare.com/files/87945596/FlashVideoBundle.CAB
After installing, make sure that the following files were all copied to the TCPMP root directory (i.e. For .72 \Programs\TCPMP or \Storage Card\Programs\TCPMP or for .81 \Programs\TCPMP\Player):
DiagVL.exe
DisableVL.exe
flvffmpeg.plg
flvsplitter.plg
MenuToggle.exe
VideoLoader.dll
These files must be in the TCPMP directory! It should do it automatically if you use .72. However, for .81 you must copy the files by hand.
After insuring the files have been coppied to the right directory, then launch TCPMP & go to preferences & set the file associations for the flash video, i.e. flv)
Note: without the current version of FlashBundle Youtube will no longer work. I have attached the most current version to the link above.
AND YES, you must use either PIE or (OPERA Mobile 8.65 (NOT MINI) with the macromedia flash player 7).

Dude, excuse the hell out of me...when neither the TCPMP and flashvideo bundle worked - someone suggested flash lite so I installed that as well...I don't think I EVER read where you couldn't use opera mini - thank you to you guys for pointing that out. I will try what you just posted, thanks for taking the time to help someone who obviously "didn't pay attention to what I read"
I can provide some insight, although I really new at this. I installed both cabs and can view all youtube videos through a portal site called ytpocket.com, using the search field at the top. This does not address the larger issue of how to play streaming flash videos from other websites. Specifically, on real youtube, I get the error message "youtube swf args not found" and the title bar of the error message is "VideoLoader." I have no idea what this means.
I also can't get the m.youtube.com site to play videos becuase the Real Player doesn't recognize 3gp files, and my attempts to associate these files with TCMP have apparently failed.
Hope this helps and hope someone smarter than me can solve these two problems! Thanks all.

Would MLB.tv work on my mobile phone over HSDPA/3G or EDGE?
Also, would this get past blackout restrictions which are done by ip address?
Thanks for any info
According to a generic non-XDA Google search, it does not appear that MLB.tv will work on the Kaiser. On the PC side, it requires Flash 8 or higher.
However, I did come across a post that uses Slingbox to stream MLB.tv to a Treo over Sprint's network. As long as you're in a good 3G area, that could be a viable option. (Probably won't help with the whole blackout by IP though)
Check it out here: http://forum.treonauts.com/palm-smartphones/treo-700p/3657-mlb-tv.html
Actually, it doesn't require flash player as you can access the "old version of the stream" from MLB.tv page.
I do want a slingbox though!!!
how do I get to the old verison on the mlb.com page?
Does it work with the old version on a PPC?
Does anyone know of a player that plays VC-1 (Windows Media Video 9 Advanced codec). If so I may have a solution for the mlb.tv problem.
Hi all,
This is my first post but I hope it will help. Also, beeing french, it might be crawling with mistakes.
I've been looking around for a way to have youtube working on my Kaiser. Here is what I wanted :
- possibility to launch youtube videos from the m.youtube.com site
- possibility to watch TV (from the SFR portal page)
- using HTC streaming media to play the videos
Here is what I did not want :
- using youtubeplay (which is a great app but I like to be able to search or to play specific videos)
- using the TCPMP plugin (for no specific reason except the I was deadlocked on using HTC streaming media)
My config is :
- HTC Kaiser
- ROM : ROMeOS v4.1 with some tweaks for french (keyboard mainly)
- SFR Illymithics (France)
After several unsuccesfull atempts (despite searching the forum), I finally found a solution.
First, I installed the HTC diamond streaming player found in this forum (thx P1Tater for posting it). Appart form updating the app to a newer version, I did not change the fact that I couldn't play videos. The error message was always the same : "error connecting".
Second, I added the following REG key :
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\StreamingDShow]
"OpenOriginalUDPPorts"=dword:00000001
Videos are now working perfectly.
For the record, I did not find the solution. A friend of mine had the same problem with his Diamond. He found a cab version of HTC streaming media which seemed to work. I tried it on my Kaiser and except for the VGA interface, videos did work perfectly. I then compared this app with the one listed above and I found 2 differences :
- the above reg key
- a newer version of Emz3GPStreamingFilter.dll
The new DLL did not seem to improve anything so I just droped it.
Since the Diamond working cab was sent to me by email, I don't want to post it here 'cause I do not know where it's from. It's called Tom's HTC diamond streaming media (or something similar) if you wish to look for it.
Well I hope this help.
Thanks for your feedback but.... the m.youtube.com already works fine with the french shipped rom, isn't it ?
I don't know about the French shipped Rom. If you mean the WM6.1 FRA found here, it did not work for me. I did not try going back to the the SFR ROM which is still in WM6. i tried several other Roms (French or others) found here but had the same issue. What's your Rom based on ? Any preferences on the existing roms ?
Thanks for your post. I am facing the same problem ...
the registry key that you mention, how did you find it?
Nice, I'm going to have to try this out. I keep getting the "connecting" issue.
for your first post this is good work and another way of getting youtube to work for people.
-youtube player works great
-skyfire as well
add your tweak to the list (although I haven't tested it yet I acknowledge you and your friends discovery)

I screwed htc media...
I think I screwed htc streaming media.
I have an XDA Orbit II with htc streaming media 2.2 (built 1026.711) pre-installed. I could open Youtube videos from Explorer with no problems.
I installed flash player 2.1, real-player and TCMP as I was playing with Opera 9.5 (as many of you…)
The result is that htc streaming media (using Explorer) is not associated with youtube videos anymore. I have removed all other players form the ppc but it still doesn’t work. Every time I click on a video I just see the opening bar for 1sec and that’s it.
I tried to re-install htc media I found in the post but It doesn’t work (installation unsuccessful).
Does anybody know how to configure the htc again?
I went in the reg but I don’t know the keys to change.
Please help
