ADDRESS BOOK & OTHER PROBS FACED SINCE GETTING KAISER!-1st TIME HTC USER, NEED HELP!
Hey Everyone..
Have major probs with the following:
1) You can't have more than one mobile number per person. Some people have more than one number
2) Being able to create lists for purpose of emailing or texting a list. I mean you can create categories but you cant use the categories for anything apart from filtering your address book!???
3) Also being able to insert a number from your phonebook within a message (without sending a vcard)
4) When you slide out the keyboards, my appointments cant be seen on the screen (if held vertically you normally can, but when keyboard out you cant, well you can see the top of the text for this only) and you cant scroll down to see it neway but you should be able to see this only on the one page.
5) Speaker phone microphone doesnt work properly. People complain they cant hear me!
Anything out there to solve these?
Really appreicate your help.
1) You can't have more than one mobile number per person. Some people have more than one number
There more than 1 spot for phone #'s. work tel, mobile tel, home tel, car tel, company tel, work2 tel, home 2 tel. If someone you know has more than 7 phone #'s, and you didnt get them on the first 7 phones, they're probably dead in a gutter anyway.
2) Being able to create lists for purpose of emailing or texting a list. I mean you can create categories but you cant use the categories for anything apart from filtering your address book!???
Create lists for emailing or texting? Not sure what you mean here. But when sending email or texts, click on the "To:" and it will bring up your address book and you can add to your list of people getting it.
3) Also being able to insert a number from your phonebook within a message (without sending a vcard)
Pull up contacts. Select|copy| paste. It's just like windows XP.
The speaker phone sucks on these phones and has since the first generation. Learn to not use it.
Hey Cheers for your reply,
in regards to your answers
1) Yep, I know you can put more than one number within that section, but lets say they have 2 mobile numbers (which many do these days to save money). Then if you put it within the home field you cant text it...?? Again anything that can be uploaded to improve this?
2) In terms of lists. On virtually every other fone..nokias, sony ericssons PDA phones, samsungs etc. You have the capability of making a list. i.e. if you are messaging the same group of people on a regular basis...e.g. for work you deal with a group of 10 contacts for a certain issue..you can select that list and it will come up with contacts in the "to" bit without selecting the contacts individually all the time..this is usually basic functionality in most phones to do this for texting and emailing..but surprised the Windows mobile doesnt have this. Its a function I have used a lot...so wondering if there is any program or something which can be uploaded to improve this?
3) With the copy and paste function tried it..and didnt work..even if it did.. it is really impractical..imagine you are writing a text to someone..Hi.blah blah blah..btw the number of ... is...and then as most phones again have..which is really basic..there should be an insert number from phonebook..but instead you have to come out of the whole text..go to the phonebook (which i have done btw)..copy the number..but guess what..as soon as I go back to the text..it doesnt allow me to paste it! Basic functionality problem there
4) Any body got a response to my number 4 above?
5) Yep thats what im trying to do
Thanks for your help..and appreciate if anybody has more suggestions for the above

You can definately text the second, third, or whatever number in your phone book. Create your message and rather than starting to type the name of your contact into the 'To' field, click in the empty 'To' field to bring up the address book. if you select a contact with more than one phone number, a box will pop up asking you which number you want to use.

You're right - it's a pretty common fuction and WM6 should have it. There may some commercial app available but I'm not aware of anything.
I normally try to get the phone number before starting the text! it's then so much easier to insert when you're writing your text. Again, it's a pity this fuctionality isn't built in.
4) When you slide out the keyboards, my appointments cant be seen on the screen (if held vertically you normally can, but when keyboard out you cant, well you can see the top of the text for this only) and you cant scroll down to see it neway but you should be able to see this only on the one page.
You mean the HTC home plugin takes up to much room? Yep, it does! But then you don't need to use it. Experiment with different home screen plugins from SPB software, such as SPB diary, SPB shell etc. You should be able to find something to suit you.
5) Speaker phone microphone doesnt work properly. People complain they cant hear me!

5) Yep thats what im trying to do
The speakerphone sucks? Does it? I don't use it, but will have to test it now!

I agree its a little inconvenient, but if your a fast user you can easily tap the windows key then contacts then quickly locate the contact, copy the number and then paste it into the msg (by hitting start then messages or the message button on the phone itself).
# 4 You need some software like SPB Mobile Shell (search for the thread called post a picture of your today screen). Because there is no current way to decrease the size of the clock. You can disable the HTC Home plug in (clock and sms/phone/email notification icons) then the whole screen will be the bottom part, but you forego the cool weather/launcher/profiles/today plugin of HTC.
# 5 speaker phone like camera plain SUCKS!!!
hey,
looking for a way to be able to dial a number off my contacts when using a calling card. ie, when i call the calling card, it tells me to enter the number i wish to call, so instead of having to hand dial it in there, is there a way i can just go to contacts and insert that number? seems silly that i have to write that number on a piece of paper and then hand dial it. thanks
omar
Insert a "w" into the number to have the phone stop and wait for you to press send to enter anything that follows. Insert a "p" to have the phone pause for 2 seconds and then chug along. So for your contact:
(Calling Card Co. Phone #)w(CC Access Number/PIN)#p(Contact Phone Number)#
would dial the calling card, wait until you pressed send, enter your access code/pin for the calling card followed by a pound sign, pause two seconds (so the system can do its thing), and then dial the contact number followed by a pound.
You'll obviously need to customize to match the way your particular CC works.
Is it a silly question to ask why you are using a calling card on a cellphone? Are there any plans left that don't include long distance?
I'll make my guess in two words - "International calls."
Either that or he's trying to hide those 1-900/976 calls from his gf/wife.
$2.99/min doesn't last long...
haha na guys, i'm calling international. much cheaper to use calling cards than to dial straight. i'm still at school, and i tried what you said, didnt seem to work, but i'll try it again once i get home. btw, its the type of calling card where my number is saved with them, so i call the card, and it automatically asks me for the number i wish to dial thanks
omar
Well the same dialing suggestions apply. Whatever you dial on your phone manually needs to be inputted using a 'w' for anything entered manually or a 'p' for a pause, which sounds like what you need. You can put multiple 'p''s for longer pauses like: 1234567890ppp12345 which would give you roughly a 6 second pause.
You can also try inserting commas, e.g:
18007777777,,,0119991234567
But I don't think you can tap a contact phone number and have it inserted mid-dialing stream. If the numbers you are calling will always use the calling card I would just save the calling card sequence as part of each of their numbers.
My personal recommendation is to use SunnySoft calling card and, if you are in the US calling internationally, GorillaMobile.
I'm originally from the UK and call the UK a LOT on my cellphone.
This combination makes it totally painless, just have the international contacts in the phone book as a regular contact (preceded by +44 in my case) adn just press dial. All completely seemless and Waaaaayyyy cheapper than AT&T (even reduced rate) International calling.
Just my 2c
This program could help solve the problem for you.
You can store you calling card and pin with this. Then, you can use contacts and select any phone number and you will see a "Call with calling card" on it.
I use this extensively.
Hope this helps

Very cool. Thanks so much for the binaries.
I think the source can be found here:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb158783.aspx if anyone needs to tweak it. I went ahead and installed the signature (pulled a copy off the CAB in PK7 format), but I don't think it's required.
I've wrestled with it for a few days before I found a post claiming contention with the WM version of Google Maps. Sure enough, after uninstalling GMaps and and uninstalling and ReInstalling the callingCard cab, all worked well. I can live without GMaps.
Contrary to the doc, you can place symbols along with letters in your pin. Since I have to enter two pins with my card mine looks something like:
12223334567#pp1234#
That enters the first PIN (Account number) # then two pauses. Then it enters the second PIN (PIN) and #. I think reboots are required between regedits for this to work properly.

Hello,
Thank you autosoori and Dan. I've added a very quick and dirty configuration GUI to it (its been a while since I've done any C++ programming to decided to use C# instead - apologies for the rubbishness on my part, but you will require .NET CF). The GUI is launched from the context menu in the Contacts list. Context sensitive help is provided within the app. Changed DLL so that device reboot is NOT required when registry changes are made.
I've only tested it on my Trinity running AX3L's WM6 ROM. Plan on adding support for multiple CC vendors (wife uses several calling card companies depending on destination). Apologies for the lack of clipboard support on edit controls.
Two files:
CallingCard.dll
CallingCardEdit.exe
I've wrapped them in a cab file. Alternatively, copy the two .exe's from zip to the original CallingCard's install dir; add a regstring in HLCU\Software\Microsoft\CallingCard called "ConfigApp" with the value being the full path to CallingCardEdit.exe; restart device.
Cheers
it works fine at my SX66 WM6, but only works with contact Menu than any other GUI .
hope for more functions
Changes requested
Hi,
My previous username was a bit non-random (for obvious reasons!), so I've changed it. Anyway, tell me what changes you want and I'll see if I can fit them in. If anyone wants the source, I can mail it to them.

I installed it and it's works fine, but today stopped work... the link appears, but I can't call with it. I tried to install it again... the same...
any idea?!
Here is a big problem I have with this CAB when used with GoogleMaps. If I install CallingCard AFTER GoogleMaps ... no Context menu for CallingCard appears in Contacts.
If I install CallingCard BEFORE GoogleMaps ... both GM and CC context menu appear, but when I select something like "Call work using calling card" it tries to use GoogleMaps instead
GREAT Application / New Features
GREAT JOB!!!
Thanks a lot !
works very well !
is there a way to use it with the call shortcuts for fast dialing ("numérotation rapide" in french) ?
it would be a very very very nice feature !!!
other options (less important, but pretty nice) :
1. ability to dial # after the "dial number"
2. in settings : ability to choose "0 secs" on each menu (pre-pin pause and pre-dial Pause)
Thanks in advance

GREAT Application / New Features
I havent reviewed this app for a long time - apologies. I've moved calling card provider to one that gives me a local number for each of my international contacts - nice!
Anyway, if someone desperately needs some work on it, I will try to fit it in - let me know.
Phil82de: I noticed the problem with Google Maps. I will try to look into it.
samerweb: Again, I'll see what I can fit it. What exactly do you mean by call shortcuts? If you mean phone Quickdials, then you could save the number that is actually dialled directly as a contact. Can you clarify.
Thanks.
hi i have installed this file on my mobile, but can't find the setting. please help
Hi Guys
Im a total Newbie to XDA's... Just got the XDA Ignito, within minutes of reading some post on this site I followed the instructions and flashed my ROM, what a difference! o2's Rom is sh*te!!
Anyway just having a few problems that may be so simple for you guys but yet so annoying for me.
1. Contacts are displayed "Surname, Firstname" how can I change my contacts to display "Firstname, Surname" ??
2. When on the net via Opera, and go on a video site like metacafe... the videos do not display? do I need to install any plug ins? the built in youtube works fine.
3. I have installed tomtom, but when I make a phone call, then end the call tomtom appears.... Ive tested a phone call without it to my ear and this doesnt happen, I can only think that my ear is pressing start and selecting tomtom from the quick launch at the top.... anyway to stop this? without holding away from my ear
Any advice is most appreciated
Many Thanks
Adam
1 - i would like to know where that option is too, most my contacts i have manually told to display like that.
2 - Opera / all the mobile browsers i think (inc IE and safari) dont have a flash pluggin. So any web based movie sites using some flash video player wont work. Thus reason for standalone uTube app
3 - is tomtom the only app which has got launched, seems a bit odd if it's selecting only that app from the start menu. My phone's display goes into standy during phone calls, so buttons dont seem to get pressed. Also using Sensorlock too.
to 1.: When you edit an Contact (Outlook) at the 6th Position, there must be a line "Save as" - when you click on it, a Pull-Down appears, where you can choose the other appearence with swapped Surname and forename.
1 - in each contact, there is a field 'File as' where you can select whether to display last. first, or first, last. There's no option that i know of to do all of them simultaneously.
2 - Spot on about the flashplugin. Although i believe that flashlite 3 is supposed to work with FLV vidoes, but don't quote me on that....i don;t even know if it's been released for winmo yet.
3 - this should only happen if you have TomTom running in the background instead of totally shut down. when you've finished with TomTom, make sure you close it properly.
Thanks for all your responses.
In regards to the file as, i was refering to all my contacts on my sim card. Surely there is an option somewhere to change the view of contacts...??
Found out how to shut tomtom down properly, will test it shortly.
Thanks
There's a faster way to rearrange your contacts...
Here you go.
NoWorthWhile
Thanks for that, but unfortunately it didnt work... i put it in the storage, then run it from programs... selected the way i wanted them displayed, clicked change.. looks like its going to do it then nothing happens.
Any ideas?
I have linked contacts to little squares. When I hit the tab with the person's name on it, it automatically dials the person's number. I far more often use text messaging. Is there an easy way to change what happens when you press the little square?
When you click on Add, find the person in your contacts.
When you select them, it will give you the option to add their numbers.
If you select the one where it says 'txt' after it, the little button with thier name will be mapped to send them a text message, instead of calling them.
Of you can just click on the persons picture and it will open up their contact card.
Doesn't work on stock ATT Rom
When I click on the "+" button, it takes me to my contacts list. When I click on anyone's name, it adds their name to the little square. When I click on the little square, it calls them. I need to set it up so that it gives me the option to send them a text. Maybe my rom is corrupt. I can add pictures, and they show up on the today screen in the little boxes, but when I click on the little pictures, it places a call. I can't or just don't know how, to change the function from "place a call" to "send a text". I called AT&T and have scoured the internet but could not find a solution. I've installed a few programs, which may be causing the conflict, so I guess it's a quirk I'll have to live with.
Finally figured it out
If you tap the little square, it dials their mobile telephone number. If you hold it down with the stylus, it gives you the option to call (home, mobile, work) number or text. I wish when you tapped it, it would text!
Are you using the HTC Home plug? If you use a rom with Manilla when you hit the square it brings up the contact and you have your choice between calling or texting.
I'm using the stock rom minus the bloat
I haven't made any mods other than adding the hidden proxy enable and disable cabs and installing the mp3 ringtone fix. However, I'm about to attempt to remap the PTT button because I hate how you can't mute the phone if you forget to put it on vibrate before a meeting. There is a post that describes how to use the PTT button to toggle among the various volume options.
Step up and flash your tilt...on second maybe thats not a good idea...
have you thought about trying a modded Rom? there is some really great rom out now that will do just what you want plus a whole lot more....
For me, mapping that PTT button was really tough
I went through three different registry editors before I could find the hklm folder. Once I found and deleted that though, it was pretty easy. I am so thankful to horndog1 for the step by step instructions.
Here's a link. I suggest using PC Commander. It was the only one that worked for me. Here's the link to the instructions.
I like this stock rom minus the bloat. So long as it's stable, may stick with it.

i would love this, i hardly ever call people (i only use about 50 minutes per month of voice, but i'm always on aim/texting). If there was someway this could be edited w/ a regedit i'd love it. TF2D is great, but i've have yet to find a ROM that is as stable as any of the simple 6.1 HTC home roms, and the things i use my phone for (lots of note taking, data logging) i can't be doing soft resets to my phone all the time. i did this once and lost a 3 hour session of notes. that WAS...NOT...GOOD. on top of that, it BLOWS not being able to use the TF2D in landscape. i'm really surprised no one has cooked any of the tile icons into any of the manilla roms
FAQ:
Question: Why do the CallBack and SMS buttons seem unresponsive at times?
Answer: Make sure you have 7,10, or 11 digits entered, also while gVo Online Features are loading in the background, CallBack and SMS buttons are disabled. They will be enabled upon loading.
If we don't disable them, then we can't guarantee that the number you selected will be pasted in the correct spot. This is a result of having to wait for google's responses to our actions. Sorry!
Question: Is WM6.5 supported?
Answer: I don't run wm 6.5, but it really depends on which rom you're using. Custom 6.5 roms that use the newer beta Internet Explorer browser do not work correctly with gVo because of the newer IE dlls.

So ever since the public invites started going out to google voice users, I've been looking for the perfect google voice dialer. Google has yet to release a windows mobile version for what ever reasons, and so I was on a mission to make my google voice life easier. I came across subpro's iDialer, which worked great but still wasn't as easy as I wanted it to be. Plus its integrated as a regular dialer too so it was a bit more complicated then I wanted. There is also OneDialer by m_drunk, but it wasn't exactly what I wanted either. I read about GVdialer but that one isn't free, so I didn't get a chance to try it. Anyways, so I spent two days (and nights) working on my own dialer. Finally, I have a workable application, so I thought I'd share it. Free of course.

MAY NOT WORK RIGHT WITH THE THE NEWER IE VERSIONS
Anyhow, here's what it is:
Current: v0.6.0
Select contact and dials their Number (Mobile)
Enter in a non-contact number and dials
Supports ALL Resolutions (QVGA,VGA,WVGA) new!
No Skin Support (since this is meant to be a quick and easy app, no need to worry if it looks good)
Landscape support new!
Google Online Functions such as SMS/CallBack/Inbox/Voicemail
Support for International Calling
ChangeLog:
v0.1 - v0.2
added online feature
changed graphics / layout
v0.2 - v0.2.1
Made change to dialing pauses In the hopes of speeding it up more. Doubt it changed anything though. (so you don't really need to update to this version)
v0.2.1 - v0.3.0
Made online features a bit faster. (but realize that if you have the gVo online features enabled, it will try to connect to google on start up. If you don't want that, then disable it in the config)
Added a red button to select which number to use from your contact. (M = Mobile, H = Home, W = Business/Work)
v0.3.0 - v0.3.1
Changed username length up to 50
passwords are up to 25
v0.3.1 - v0.4
Removed Graphics (so we don't have to worry about skinning and resolutions)
Now supports ALL resolutions!
Now supports Landscape!
v0.4 - v0.4.1
Added dedicated Online/Dial buttons (Online Button only visible with online feature enabled in config)
Google Number can now be 11 digits
Changed config page's layout to be landscape friendly
v0.4.1 - v0.5.0
Changed dedicated "Online" button to dedicated "SMS"
Added "CallBack" Checkbox in config (for those who want a dedicated callback button)
Made the graphics look better (goodbye google colors! Hello Black, Seems everyone likes black)
Disabled SMS and CallBack buttons while online features loading (If we don't disable them, I can't guarentee numbers pasted in the right box)
v0.5.0 - v0.5.1
Changed dialing requirement of 7 or 10 or 11 digits to only 7 digits or more (since international dialing can vary in how many digits total)
*** if you don't dial internationally, you don't need to update to 0.5.1 ***
v0.5.1 - v0.6.0
Added better support for Google international calling
(added checkbox that enables support for international calling, everytime you dial you will get a message box asking if it's an international call or not. I know it's kind of a hassle but it's the only way to really support international calling. If you never make international calls, do not enable international calling and you will never see the message box)
*** INTERNATIONAL CALLING IS NOT FREE, YOU MUST HAVE GOOGLE VOICE CREDIT ***
Voice Features:
Dial - gVo dials your google number, enters your pin number (if you have one) then dials the person you want to call (from manual dial or contacts list). Basically, it does what you can do by yourself, but in an automated way. Also, this method allows your google number to show up to the person you're calling.
Online Features:
SMS - Logs you into google's site, and pastes in the number you dialed or selected from contacts. You should be tabbed into the text field ready to text!
CallBack - Logs you into google's site, and pastes in the number you dialed or selected from contacts, then automatically clicks call. After that, you may have to choose which callback number, but if you only have one callback number, it should only ask you once, then be automatic from then on.
Both Online features will also let you check your voicemail, and do other things to/with your google voice account.
(DONT FORGET, ONLINE FEATURES USE DATA/INTERNET! SO DONT ENABLE IT IF YOU DONT HAVE A DATA PLAN!)
Anyhow visit google's website for more info on Google Voice.
And oh yeah, I do not take any responsibility for any harm this application does to you whether it be mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, etc. Also, I am in no way affiliated with Google, so all logos and whatever belong to them. I did this in my spare time, with the intention to share with everyone else in this great XDA community. **Also realize that I'm not trying to make the ultimate best google voice application with bells and whistles, I just want to make it easy and simple to use.**
Enough of my blabbering and here is the cab, enjoy!
Tips:
If you enable gVo Online = Google Voice Callback, SMS, Account Settings, VoiceMail (uses default internet connection)
If you disable gVo Online = Google Voice Call (Calling Card Method)
For gVo Calling Card method, you can either dial the number or get a number from the contacts list.
For gVo Online, you can also dial the number or get a contact's number, then connect to gVo Online which defaults to the SMS feature. If you need the number you selected, its in the system clipboard, so just paste it.
nice.. i want to be able to use this with wifi if possible... without using the phone method. keep up the good work bro
good going...look forward to added features
awesome, the more the merrier hopefully I like your implementation.

keep in mind that with cdma phones a call will go to voicemail if the phone is connected with (active?) 1x data (EVDO/3g connections will pause for calls)
I'm not sure if it's possible to send the call back request and terminate the connection fast enough, but I'm willing to test if you find a way to try.
edit; further test proved my suspicion that you can be connected with 1x, but no data sessions can be active. there is a registry entry to control this (evdo or 1x)
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings]
"SuspendResume"
Works great on my HTC Touch Pro Please please add the SMS please Please

Ok, I added an "online" feature, and since I don't have a cdma phone, let me know what/how it does. Like you said, we may have to do a quick data termination to receive the call. Thanks!

Hmm.. I did a hard reset and tested it on my device, and all is working fine. Make sure you entered your google username and password and number/pin correctly. I'm not sure what the issue is if there isn't an error code or I can't reproduce it. Hopefully if someone has the same issue, we can figure out what it is.
i have same problem as brownhornet. im on energy rom 6.5 on touch diamond. this looks sweet by the way. thanks for doing this

Can you describe to me how to recreate this issue? Are you on GSM? I'd like to get to the bottom of it. Thanks!
interesting
I am also on energy rom on a Touch Pro, Fuze to be exact. I am running the latest build as of this writing, which would be the august 11th 09 build. I have no problems at all...well the online mode pretty much blows(Onedialer isn't much better here either), takes FOREVER to load the GV page, the calling card method works great, however perhaps you have to many pauses here and there cause the GV Dialer uses the same method but zips through a little faster.
However I like your implementation better as the GV dialer asks which service to use everytime you make a call, whereas yours can be assigned as a softkey and used only when needed. I was using iDialer in the same fashion however, in order to call from a contact you needed to install iContact in addition, whereas yours uses the existing windows list. Cool.
If you could speed up the calling card method(try the GVdialer trial and see for yourself) and mabye implement the sms in the same way or better as one dialer, then yours would be byfar the best in my opinion. Keep up the good work.

Hey, thanks a lot for the comment. This definately will help me better understand how to improve it. Yeah, I haven't tried GVdialer yet so I'll have to find time and try it out, maybe I can impliment a similar sms solution. I just wanted an easy way for people to connect to their google accounts. Basically as an all-in-one online feature. I'll see what I can do! Thanks again!
If I use it without the internet it works fine... but as soon as I click the checkbox... I click connect a blank page comes up... then after a few seconds the program just closes.

Ok, so I tested both GVdialer and OneDialer, and they are basically using the same method I am.
About the calling card method, you have to wait for google's prompts and then enter the your selection. So there isn't a real way to speed it up much more than it is already because I'm using the most minimum pauses I can. In fact, as soon as you hit dial, my application sends the number string with pauses included to the built in dialer, then my application exits. So my application actually has nothing to do with the dialing after you hit the dial button. (You can listen in after it connects to google and hear it dial against google's prompts) The only way to really optimize the speed is to make a real standalone dialer and time the google prompts with your selection, but even then, you'll only save a second or two.
About the SMS features, because google doesn't have a real api yet, we have to improvise, and so what we're essentially doing is logging into google's website first to get credentials then we can send the text. The only difference between onedialer and mine is that onedialer has a built in SMS form, which is what I had originally too but I thought it would just be better to just use an all in one solution (the google site itself). Because no matter what, you'll always have to log into the site to get the credentials first, hence the long wait.
Once google provides us with a real api, we'll be able to provide faster solutions.
Ok, anyhow, that was a semi technical explanation, sorry if it was confusing.

Ok, it's most likely a connection problem then. Are you connected to the internet? My application "should" try to connect you if you're not already connected but maybe something in your settings isn't allowing it to connect. Try connecting to the internet first(wifi or data plan), make sure you can browse the internet first, then run the gVo application and see if that makes a difference.
When you hit the "Google Online" button, all it does is connect to google's website. If it comes back as a plain page, then it's just not reaching google's site. So I assume its more of a connection problem.
Would this work on a Axim x51v just to control GV, like you can from the web site?
