READ.THE.WIKI.
Well i think it was mamaich who finds out that the Paging Pool size was only set to 2 MB.
Now in the new release the Paging Pool Size is 16MB and this improve the speed.
example:
Befor i was looking for an Internet Browser replacement because the speed was terrible slow.
Now the speed with the buildin Browser is very nice.

PS: Here is the complete story

mamaich found small page pool, made it bigger, saved the rom.
basically in my experience wm5 is now running almost, if not as fast as 2003se on b.a.
btw download the file n read the readme after reading the wiki.
if the wiki confuses you lots of the things in the readme will clear it up, if not then i suggest you dont mess with ur b.a.
This thread is for everyone using one of FARIA's 3.2 ROMs. I want to find out and share information about which paging pool size works better on your phone, 12 or 8.
Some Explanations:
There are 2 versions available, one with 8MB paging pool and one with 12MB paging pool. The paging pool is like virtual memory on a desktop windows computer. Basically, it's memory for open, running programs to sit in until the computer needs them again. More paging pool equals less program memory available. (program memory is similar to RAM on a windows computer.) A smaller paging pool equals MORE available program memory.
We all know WindowsMobile devices lose available program memory over time. Because of that, we have to soft reset the devices on a regular basis. I have tried both versions of FARIA. It seems that the 12MB rom uses memory BETTER! Since I have loaded the 12MB version a few days ago, I have only had to soft reset the device once or twice. When I had the 8MB version I had to reset every hour or so.
What has been your experience?
yeah, i installed the 12mb version. I don't have too much problem with the memory leak. After i closed all the programs, i still have almost 10 mb memory left. I had it running for almost 3 days already.
Can't really say, as I haven't tried the 8mb version yet. Other than a few known issues, I've been really happy with this ROM, so I won't change over to the other one until sometime next week (after I purchase and use Sprite Backup).
The 8MB version works good so far... Requiring a reset once per day or so if i am using my copy of Pocket Player...

Ive made my own rom, based on Faria OS 3.0 with 4mb paging pool (and 2Mb)
Now i have 35 Mb free memory (and 38 on 2 Mb pp), and this releas is very stable and fast. But i have only one problem - battery decrease very quickly in gprs session (cause of pp's size).

Can you upload this 4MB rom? I would really to try it out.
Attn Lurkers
It would be really good to get everybody to chime in on this. So far, it looks like there is little, if any, difference between the roms. Let's hear what the rest of us have to say...
Got the Tmobile wing, or HTC Herald. I'm trying to put preferably a 32bit EMU (e.g. PocketGBA) or at least a 16 bit EMU (Pocket SNES) on it. Used MemMaid to kill a bunch of programs but I'm still stuck without enough memory (RAM). Anyway anyone knows how to squeeze some more memory out of the Wing?
The best method IMHO is to allocate more to programs...since I have a 2GB Micro SD card I don't need storage, but can't seem to do it. And I don't know enough to find and change the memory allocation in the registry (if that's where it is)
Anyhelp?? I just want more memory, nothing fancy?? Suggestions? Looked through several forums and haven't found what I need.: p

The problem is the pagepool.
All cooked rom for wizard have 4 or 8MB pagepool because that´s enough. I guess on wing it is the normal 12MB - too much.
We have to cook smaler ones and we will get back the big RAM like 30MB.
Let´s wait for official update and start cooking without the possibility of bricking.
lol
Dang-it
I was hoping I didn't have to cook the rom, I've bricked things before and once burned....
Oh well I just want it to play GBA, (wanted to wait for PSP2 to come out to decide on getting a portable) I'll hang back and wait for a popular Aserg cooked OS or something. Something using the original windows mobile WWE edition.
Oh damn I've deleted stuff from my extrom, crap should have backed it up... I think it was only the tzone thing, still just in case. well I'll get around to it whenever..
Now to look up how to make sure I use 802.11g and not 802.11b
Thanks man.

I also have a wing and experiencing the same memory problems.. your saying that if i lower the "pagepool," a term I'm unfamiliar with, more program memory will be allocated after a soft reset; right now only 27% of the program memory is free after a soft reset. Is this pagepool thing a simple registry hack, or do u need to flash a custom rom to lower it? either way, can someone please explain to me how to lower the pagepool, or easier, a recommendation for a custom rom that allocates more program memory.. before I switched to the wing, my mda would always have atleast 50+% free program memory.. please help. thanks.

Just a thought. Have you deleted your emails and cleared the temp files in your Internet Explorer?
In any case you should set it up so that these get saved on the storage card.
yes.. doing that on a regular bases does help but pagepool makes a big difference

i thought it was a better idea to set it to 6mb instead of 4mb??
im not sure whats better but i have the 4mb and it works great plenty of memory on a fresh reboot...about 25-27mb
With all applications closed, using the 4mb pagepool setting, I get 21mb.
Apparently each device is slightly different? Wouldn't it be nice if HTC had supplied more memory in the first place...and if Windows wasn't always sucking mem. for no reason

I just got my Wing a couple of weeks ago, installed a new ROM and did the page pool and am very upset with the lack of storage memory. With my MDA I had both vanilla ROM's and full ROM's installed with lots of memory left any where from 24MB to 30MG free storage ram. With the Wing I had installed only a few programs like Intellisync for work, PocketCM all emails and IE cache are on the card, with this I have just 13 mg of storage space. I do not have the newest updated Office...when I tried to intstall it the old was not deleted but this just installed over it and took away precious memory.
I do miss the days of a full stocked cooked ROM with lots of storage memory. Am considering getting rid of this phone and getting something else.
I'm running about 20lb on average. I did have about 23mb before, but had to hard reset (for other reasons) and reconfigure everything. I think I need to see what else I can put on my storage card. Only using about 81mb right now, but was running about 250mb before. Going to reinstall a few programs onto the card today and see how much more I can free up.
Wow i am an idiot. I did figure this out. Thought I set it up to storage card but... anyway thanks,
try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=324594
much easier to do. I have 6mb pagepool set and when i boot up fresh i get just under 20mb of free ram with a total program memory of 49.89mb. I'd suggest the 6mb pagepool as many people have said the 4mb pagepool is too small and the device will suffer performance issues.
Is there anyway to change your page pool with a registry editor or something ? got the rom installed but only 16 mb Memory :S
Thanks In Advance
Nick..
No other way but to...
...follow the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=313263
just my opinion but i found a 4mb page pool made the device run slightly slower, i am now using 6mb which seems the perfect balance for me.
Hi,
with this tool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323269
it is possible to change the page pool size of exisiting roms.
The new R2 generic german rom has 6MBytes
This one (based on the new R2)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=476386
has 24MBytes
As far as I was able to get informations about the page pool size there is not the "one and only" setting.
But is there any experience allready on the X1 with different sizes?
Best regards
dingolino
i make more testing on it and it depends on the rom in my eyes, sometimes i used 16MB and also 32MB, with my last build i feel that 24MB gives me best performance, if you look at cmex he uses i think 12MB as example, so i think it is hard to say what the best is.
Regards,
cHarOn
some people seem to have had success with 0mb ones, but personally I prefer a 16mb one, it seems to load bigger files a bit quicker.
I'm using 32mb and it seems to be quicker than my 16mb build but i think i need to decrease it.
