This program is so cool - I love stuff like this that uses your hardware in new inventive ways.
This program sends out chirps then records as they bounce back - measuring the time and therefore the distance to an obstruction. So it's basically a pocket sonar!

Unfortunately I can't seem to get any results on my Kaiser. Everything appears to work okay with the exception of putting results on the screen.
From the support page:
"If the device uses for playing and recording the same speaker or for some construction reasons the output and input uses the same connections the program will not work. It needs separate lines for input and output."
I don't know if that is the case with our Kaisers, but I really hope there is a way to get this working.
Here's a link if you're willing to try it out: http://www.eddiem.com/nerds/tiki-index.php?page=Sonar CE
Doesn't work on my Tilt, either. Pretty cool looking program though!
Pretty sure that the speaker is on the back and the mic on the front. I'm guessing that would cause some issues, but don't know.
I did like the look of this, but really couldn't get it to work on my Hermes.
It at least seems to emitt and record on the Kaiser, but I have no idea what to push to get it to do some calculating.
Any hints?
Progress .... sorta. If you go to Settings->Set Out Signal, and select Chirp <>, instead of Chirp <, it starts plotting. Unfortunately it just plots the same the over and over. Even if it just plotted random cool patterns, I could convince people it was working!
Hello,
I'm using the HTC prophet and I just stumbled over this thread via Google.
I made some progress by running some of the tests, especially the "audio system". It seems that I can record the chirps only up to a frequency of some 5500 Hz. So I changed at Settings -> Set out signal, the frequencies between 4 and 5 KHz. I also shortened the recording time to get a more accurate picture and less echoes. And finally, at Settings -> Set scale, I set the Cut off to 120.
Now my picture is changing according to the position of my PDA. Nevertheless I get by far to much noise / echo and it's pretty useless so far^^
But the programm is really cool, maybe we can get it running together
I really don't see a practical application for this but I'll bite anyway...
One of the issues may be due to the mono speaker. From the authors website:
This program depends on build-in sound drivers and thus strongly from the device model. If you can’t record echo signal than as a first step you have to check the /Tests/Check recording (just speak to microphone after selecting this test. After some time you will cheer the recorded sound). If this works use the /Tests/Search offset test to find the correct value for your device. The offset value depends on the device. If you here the recorded sound you can check the analyze window. This also gives you information about the offset between the played and recorded signal. Standard value of offset value is 5000 bytes in stereo 44100 samples/s mode. In mono mode with 44100 samples/s is selected than this value is 2500 bytes. After that you can try to record echo.
could anyone please post the default setting values for the out settings? i messed with them and cant get them back to default...
you know what. if anyone is bored enough could you just post all of the settings so i can keep messing iwth them.
Every time I exit the program and start it again, all my settings are lost and set to default..
i get a plottin on my screen but dosent look anything like the screen shot... im using xda stealth
it doesn't work on my BA (win 6.1)
the app doesn't start at all
click -> 1 second... -> nothing happens
Just found this app and this thread. Don't suppose anyone got it working?
I have WM6.1 and Mogul.
using Touch HD (blackstone) and WM6.5.3
it ALMOST works.. but dosnt if a new version was made it probably would but dosnt look like its been touched for about 5 years.
anyone up for making somthing similar/simpler?
Searched for offset, replotted and i just got garbage
I think my kaiser doesn't have a good microphone.
btw:
There is a video with a Toshiba TG01 and a(maybe this) program.
It used a Sonar-device (i don't know how it's called in English), which had been connected over USB-Host.
i look a round and i see this
does this really work?
I take it indoor and the ruler function reads the furthest distance being 2.34 meters...
i take it outdoor the longest distance reads 2.34 meters when clearly it's like more that 15 meters...
this is a blonde application
It does work...
I had an earlier version working on an HTC Vogue with WM6.5 (NFSFan ROM)
This version (1.30) works on HTC HD2 with WM6.5.5 (Elegencia ROM). The programme is unfortunately displaced about 5 mm down the screen from where it should be (obscuring buttons a bit) but is working.
Its not perfect but a really fantastic gimmick to have on your phone to shock and amaze (especially those dweebs on iOS)

Several times when typing with the keyboard on my Tilt I've found I get double letters when I only press the key once. Is that common? Is there an adjustment for this?
Perhaps you need to re calibrate your device as perhaps when you did it the first time, you calibrated your device in such a way that made your screen too touch sensitive
I guess he means on the physical keyboard, not on the touchscreen. This happens to me too and I find it mildly annoying, especially if I'm in a hurry. I'd love to find a fix for it.
There was another thread describing the exact opposite behaviour, but I haven't played around with the settings yet.
Robert
Ooops- My bad.
Same here, especially with the "d" key and sometimes multiple repeats not just doubles. Other keys doing it also. Thought at first it was sticky, but thats not it.
Rfka01 is dead on, of course. I'm referring to the hardware keyboard.
I looked for a 'repeat rate' setting or such to see if that would fix it, but can't find any setting of that nature.
Hi, did you check the thread I linked you to? They are toying around with registry settings for keyboard repeat rates. ATM I don't have enough time to try it.
Robert
Sorry - I was trying to help find the keyboard repeat rate setting and thought that I knew where it was and failed.
Message removed.
I think we all know the real problem - keeping it in the family a bit too much eh?

Are you a GTA fan Vijay? Nice. I'm almost through with the story mode in GTA4.
Another thing I think the button repeat rate setting applies to the keyboard reapeat rate. So adjust that and it might help.

@juiceppc - to tell you the truth, I haven't played it and am trying desperately NOT to! I'm rebuilding my PCs and "upgrading" from Vista to XP, so shuffling 2 terabytes of data around, accumulated over years of coding and hacking, is taking weeks and weeks
As soon as I finish, I'll get back on my xbox 360 and give it a go.
Do you like it? (better respond offtopic, I shouldn't be polluting threads)

For some reason, the keyboard repeat rate is actually tied to the volume up/down control settings. Go into your Setting, Buttons, Up/Down Control page, and twiddle the "Delay before first repeat" setting. That should fix it.

The game is sick! A technical achievement of this decade IMHO.
Yes, this is a frustrating reoccurring issue. Sometimes it'll even give you double letters of two of the first letters in a word, for example, "like ththis." It's especially ridiculous when it happens to only two letter words, like "to" for example, which results in "I'm going toto the movies."
I've filed a report with Google, so please visit the link and star and add your own testimony if you wish. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=14755
I even made a video demonstrating the problem to show Google. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUZdvr6Pdjk

hoping someone smart could either say this means nothing dumbass or picks it up and makes it so our kaisers can run vga like manilla (if those divers really are about to work)

The display would need to be capable of VGA 640 x 480 Resolution to run in VGA mode so thats a physical limitation.
The HTC manual thats accessible via the wiki makes mention of VGA though so perhaps there are some plans to release a VGA screen equipped version of the Kaiser one day?

Hello,
I checked everywhere for a solution, but have not found a working one...
I was using NATF v.3.1 Rom and everything was fine - I was able to turn off my phone and still listen to the music.Couple of days ago (I don't remember installing or doing something to the phone) I noticed that if I press the power button, Audio Manager stops playing.
Things I've tried:
Installing/Reinstalling ROM:
I reinstalled NATF 3.1 (no joy) and installed HyperDragon III Opal (still no joy)
Changed the registry settings:
"Unattended play" or something like that - I changed the registry settings for WMP and HTC Audio Player / Preferences (No luck)
I use advanced config tool v 3.2 and I wonder if the problem can be the source of that?
Any suggestions are welcome!
Thanks a lot, guys.
How can you turn off your phone and still have it on playing music? Half the time I can't even turn off my screen and have the music play...
I got smart though and mapped a key to disable the screen while in WMP so that it plays while the screen is off.
Your phone is hard core if it can be off and play.. I wonder what happens if you take the battery out? hmmmm

Yeah, I think the OP meant turning it to standby...
I guess the big quesiton here is, are you listening on headphones or bluetooth or on the external speaker on the phone? AFAIK, the speaker on the phone will shut off regardless of the app used (WMP, Audio Manager) when the phone goes into standby. However, over headphones or bluetooth it should continue to play. So, which situation are you referring to?
opps I posted in the wrong thread. : ) <3
Get a registry editor and then navigate to this key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences]
Then see if there is a value called "UnattendedPlayback". If not create a new dword entry and name it "UnattendedPlayback" and set it's value to 1. WMP should now play when in suspended mode.
NOTE: The version of DShow in the ROM will ultimately determine if playback while in standby mode is possible. That is why some ROMs will play while suspended and others wont, even with the above registry setting.

funny ass post!!
woot woot woot
pfft..phones off and still playing music..lol
Thanks for all the answers, guys ...
As I stated before - I checked the registry settings, and there are fine (for the unattended playing), and before that thing happened ,was able to press the power button on my phone, and still listen audio manager trough the speakerphone.
Do you think that something happened, and now my phone is going to a different "sleep" state ? Because this is the only explanation that I can think of ...
I got same problem - Audio manager stops playing when i turn power button...
Any help?

Go figure all of the new ROMs are using the OPAL DShow. I guess that is ultimately the cause of this? Does anyone have a fix?
Yup easy fix is S2P .... better interface and plays when the screen is turned off!! Hope this helps.
Hello,
I have the same problem, I tried to add the Dword in the register, use different players and also S2P but the problem is still here.
Do you have another ideas to solve this problem please ?
Oups !
Sorry,
I placed the key in the wrong directory !
It works fine now, thanks for the post ...
is there a workaround without having to use s2p?
I have an application that i still want to sound when it goes into standby. (not media player)
How feasible is it to port this to the xperia? Anyone know?
basically, it gives you a useable cursor via the optical joystick
Could you give a link to the original application?
Its not an application you can download, it is a standard app only found in the Omnia because it has an optical joystick similar to X1
yeah unfortunately it's not an application i can find anywhere.
Shame, as its a really cool app - allows you to have a mouse cursor on your windows mobile
the d-pad (side) buttons must be flatten, or the cam must be come higher in future versions of xperia x1.
the pad is to deep in a hole. its not the feeling, it could be. htc/sony/ericsson have to lift up this sensor!
touchpad style...
but tomorrow, i will test, to glue a 1-2 mm transparent pet foil over the touchpad`s cam.
normaly, the pet foil (acryllic glas) will transport the optical informations
i hope to become the touchpad sensor field, exactly to the d-buttons frame`s hight.
so i hope, it will feel as one unity with a plain surface. so it`s easier to slide with the thumb
over the senor.
touchpad style... *G
ehh, okay. Don't destroy your phone
What about the HTC Mouse. The one on the Artemis or Touch Cruise.

Brilliant idea, please keep us informed on what happens with that mod.
Would it not be easier to steal the CAB from an omnia or i780 rom and see if it works? Would give it a go but not sure how.
I've found something that works...
http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com/fr/index.php?soft=758
But it's not much like a real mouse, or how I think it *could* work with the optical joystick. It moves around like it does in Opera mini, I think SE have coded the drivers to make it more useful in scrolling up/down/left/right through menus, rather than to be used like a mouse.
I wonder if someone can create a program that reads the data directly from the sensor rather than through whatever drivers (HID?) are currently being used.
e: Has anyone found a way to boost the optical sensor's sensitivity in the registry? That'd help a little. It takes ages to move around the screen atm.
e II: It's certainly not perfect; the transparency of the pointer causes problems with menus. also I noticed that the pointer is taking commands from both the optical sensor and the directional buttons around it. I wonder if SE really have made the drivers so that the optical joystick only emulates the directional buttons.
I've got an i780 and the FingerMouse on it was truly awesome - allowing for genuine one-handed use and setting it apart from the rest of the WM crowd. I've now "upgraded" to the X1 and while a lot of the problems have been fixed by Jack's Rom, getting the optical mouse working as a cursor will be what stops going back to the i780!
I've copied the attached dll and fingermouse.exe app if anyone can make any use of it. I'm afraid I have no developer skills whatsoever, but if someone can talk me through anything else that's required off my i780, I'll happily oblige There's also the full i780 rom kitchen here:

Thank you so much, been waiting for someone to post this. I'll happily send a donation to anyone who gets this working.
I'd love to get this working properly too, it'd be especially useful for some games... COD2 with real "mouselook" on a phone would be fantastic.

HAHA, very funny
Hi,
I have been using BAF GPS Toggle for a few weeks now and it works great.
I am also using the HTC Touch Pro (see signature) which has VGA
Resolution: 480x640
Colours: 65536
The button/icon is small and the Today space is about half the space of other Today plugins/features. Thus I need my stylus to turn it on or off. The fonts are however regular size and thus cut off halfway by the size of the plugin. This means I am sometimes guessing... is that 1 satelite or 7... I'm sorry, I don't have the ability to do a screenshot as I am travelling. I suspect the issue could be solved if the (status) icon is larger for this kind of screen size. (guessing)
(Note I believe the HTC Touch HD has XVGA and its GPS performance could certainly use this plugin as I understand from their owners)
Performance:
Great! (I am using original ROM and Radio, see signature) It picks up satelites almost immediately and this overcomes the slow searching and fixing that other programs use. I've used a few GPS programs to test them out. Both regular car GPS software like Tom Tom and my favourite Route66 as well as off-road software like GPS Tuner... It works great with all and I would advice this clean (low memory) software to any HTC Touch Pro user... (even with the small sized Today plugin as it is)
www.baf.cc developed this and says he has no time to update a fix soon. Is there another way for us (HTC Touch Pro users) to fix this ourselves?
Anyone has a fix/suggestion?
Thanks,
How to adjust today screen to fit GPS Toggle program? (or reverse)
Hi there,
(note: After install, first use gives error 21 and won't activate. After it will work as it should, HTC Touch Pro)
Listen, Robert Ferris created a great little tool. I really use it all the time. However, as you can see in my screenshot it does not go well with VGA visually. It is really difficult to open and start with a stylus as the space is very limited and often I open an adjoining program/function....
As Robert seems to be busy I think it is up to us to make the necessarey adjustments. If I want to do that,... Where do I need to make adjustments, how can I change the today line to fit the text? Where are the images, so I can increase their sizes? And would that do it?
Not only would it make a solution, but it would be fun to learn to do this myself as well.

I would like to know this as well.
