I guess I'm hitting on a topic that has had endless discussions and has just plain been posted thousands of times, so it's probably a big annoyance for most of you; however, I have yet to see a concise and informative post or even a website anywhere that helps me get applications for my first Pocket PC, an AT&T Tilt. So if it's not too much trouble could you guys please help me out here? Please follow this format for each application you post:

Even though I expect this to be an thread for great applications, if you feel the need to criticize another application please do so in a thorough manner following the format. Thank you for taking your time to read this and I hope to see some amazing applications!
[PIM Manager]: $29.95
Application: Manages your contacts, tasks, diary & Todo lists.
Description: An impressive all round product to help assist with managing your data in a simple but complex interface. Even create contact links within your appointment or tasks' subject and notes let you quickly access a named contact without having to resort to links or a search. Positives: Very customisable, easy to use, all in one management.
Negatives: None that I can complain about

For me the best application which in fact has prevented me from shifting to Symbian is SoftMaker's Office.
Category = On purchase. This is a suite of Spreadsheet and word processor.
Positives = So powerful that it can do almost what the PC counterpart can do. I need extremely complex spreadsheets even including conditional formatting and drop down lists. Never once I have encountered a situation where there was a mismatch between the desktop and the device. Round trip integrity of documents is just perfect.
Negatives = Not really many except for the steep price but I guess I do not mind this much as the overall functionality it provides is just great.
website = www.softmaker.com

Tomeraider
oops - doublepost
Tomeraider
[db / ebook reader] - £19.95
Application: Tomeraider
Description: "TomeRaider is a text database browser and reader for handheld devices and Microsoft Windows made by Yadabyte"
Positives: Not just an eBook Reader but SO much more. On my SD card, I have a file containing the whole of wikipedia - it is very, very fast too. You wouldnt know that there were literally millions of articles. I also have IMDB on it too - lots of files available (4000 according to the site) - you can even author your own
Negatives: None found as yet
Rating: 1 being worst - 5 being best: "5+"
Where to get: http://www.tomeraider.com
[GPS navigation] - around $150, depends on country
Application: iGo MyWay Plus
Description: excellent GPS navigation software
Positives: Best interface that I've ever seen in any GPS software. Extremely convinient and easy to use. Fast, reliable. A lot of infromation on the screen, yet nothing is ever covered by anything, you get the whole view. Has a very large selection of maps. Not sure about others, but California map is very well detailed - last update was in Jan 08 with over 2 million POIs. Nevada map is ecellent too, other states probably the same. Supports TMC, internal/external GPS, speed cameras, excellent voice guidance, day/night skins, various transportation devices, toll road avoidance, and much more stuff.
Negatives: Does not get traffic updates from the web. Rest is minor glitches: If device goes to sleep, it may not return from it if iGo is running (happens very rarely). If phone is on vibrate - switches it to "silent" mode... although maybe this bug has to do with my config/device.
Rating: 1 being worst - 5 being best

Excellent idea! Should hopefully curb the "Just got my HTC xxx - what programs should I put on it?" posts!
My contributions
[Synchronisation] - £16.00/Free trial
Application: Easy Sync by Pocket Wizards
Description: Excellent program that lets you sync any files from any location on your PC to any location (including microSD) on your PPC
Positives: Much better than Active Sync file transfer. Leave all your files exactly where they are on your PC. Set up a sync partnership for that file using the straightforward wizard and choose where on your device you want to sync the file to. Choose your update frequency and job done - whenever you change the original file, the synced copy also updates. Can set up uni or bi-directional sync, so changes made to PPC version are automatically transferred to your PC file at next Sync. Can be set to trigger when ActiveSync starts up for a fully automated process. Also allows for sync of entire folders.
Negatives: The only one I can think of is that it is compatible with .NetCF 2.0 only, not with 3.5. Other than that, very smooth and stable. Well worth the money.
Rating: 5
Where to get: Handango etc
[Utilities] - Freeware
Application: GroupSMS
Description: Easy way to send SMS to multiple contacts
Positives: Allows you to choose multiple SMS recipients by ticking the boxes, rather than choosing them one by one. Can set this up for different contacts groups too.
Negatives: Can only set up groups via Outlook, although this function is on the creator's To-do list
Rating:4
Where to get: www.shubaroo.com - lots of other great little apps on this website too!
App Launcher
[App Launcher/Today Plugin] - $15
Application: UltimateLaunch 1.2
Description: Tabbed app launcher and today plugin. Animated tab transitions, unlimited tabs, gestures.
Positives: Very customizable, unlimited tabs, custom icons, low memory usage.
Negatives: Learning curve to configure, uses icons instead of png.
Rating: 4
Where to get: http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/Launcher-Applications/UltimateLaunch-56169.shtml
[SIP Keyboard] - Usually $19.99. But at the moment, $12.98 for two licences. Give one to a friend like I have!
Application: TouchPal 2.0 Professional
Description: Finger/thumb-friendly predictive keyboard with a special technology called T+ where you tap and slide each key in a different direction for different symbols, letter, case, number etc. Many many features including multiple languages, dynamically-resizable keyboard, fast custom word input. Innovative design.
Positives: way too many to list. accurate and quick predictive input due to design of two letters on one key, powerful, looks great, excellent support people who will consider your feature requests VERY quickly, excellent value. Still looks like a normal qwerty keyboard.
Negatives: Some people not used to predictive input may undergo a little learning curve. Try it, it's much faster and with this one, it usually has the word you want as the first one so you can just keep on typing!
Rating: 5+

Pros:
I would like to use the GPS on my phone to map my position on a static map or a jpeg. I don't want to use the web at all, I want to store my maps in static images and pull up the appropriate map and be able to find my position on that map
Does anyone know if this is possible and how it would be done?
Thanks.
TW,
BeeLineGPS
I realize you want to be able to import maps, something you cannot do with BeeLineGPS (http://www.visualgps.net/BeeLineGPS/BeeLineGPS), but I'd still strongly recommend the program. It does not do anything over the Internet but it does do just about everything one could do with GPS data. As far as getting some kind of reference of where things are on a blank map, you can import waypoints or mark them on your phone and you can export the movement you've tracked into KML (Google Earth).
From their website: "BeeLineGPS is a high performance Pocket PC cache navigation and management software tool. Import GPX files and manage thousands of waypoints with the advanced Waypoint Manger. View, manage and hunt geocaches with ease and confidence while having fun, a perfect paperless solution. BeeLineGPS also includes active waypoint technology where a waypoint can trigger a warning window for speed traps, safety cameras or play a sound byte while on a guided tour. Other features include waypoint averaging, altitude profiling and a comprehensive trip computer. BeeLineGPS is the ultimate GPS tool for your geocaching and outdoor needs. BeeLineGPS waypoint database can support thousands of waypoints with over 120 icons to depict specific locations."
It's 30 day shareware that eventually turns into nagware but you may find it's worth the $30. Here's the cab: http://www.visualgps.net/BeeLineGPS/BeeLineGPSInstall.CAB
I have not used this at all, haven't even installed it yet, but you might want to look at MyMotion
Very interesting, thanks guys.
I think MyMotion is the closest I've seen yet. I don't really care about tracking where I've been - does anyone know of any open source similar to MyMotion?

I think you should take a look at GPStuner. It does a lot of things
- Maps can be downloaded from the phone, or from a computer and stored on memory card. (i currently have 50 JPG covering 200 sq km)
- It records your track, gives information about your current speed, altitude, average speed...
- You set up points aywhere on the map and it will lead you to them, or search nearby points. I use it for things that do not come on Tomtom, like bus stops, libraries or free WiFi hotspots
- You can save your track and open it on Google Earth
Another similar software is tracky, but I like GPSTuner more
chinomoreno, it's not polite to hi-jack a thread... start another with your question.
You can also use LEM's TrackMe, using it off-line it will store your data on your device until you decide to upload it (by example when connected with Wifi or ActiveSync). It also stores .kml files you can use in Google Earth.
We've kind of moved off topic to tracking software as opposed to being able to find a point on a static map or image... is it really that difficult to do???
TW,
Desktop app exportable to kaiser
I use Memorymap on my desktop and it can be fully exported to pda. Incorporates standard maps and arial photographic images which you can flip between:

PathAway, but it's way more than what you're asking for. You can create a map, calibrate it, then upload it. You can do large maps, small maps, etc.. And you can pull in topo or sat maps in on the fly over the data connection too if you don't happen to have a map already made.
How is this thing for viewing medical journals and text books in pdf? When you side load the pdf is it easy to view and zoom in on the multi column pages of texts like the ipad? Or crappy like the original nook?
Thanks.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Here's a video of the NC viewing a PDF: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEh0y0safQs&t=0m52s
Also, that's just the default NC app. With it rooted you could install any Android PDF reader.
Terrible for textbooks. I've been meaning to write a review of my experiences. I got the NC almost entirely for use with PDF textbooks, after being disappointed with the Kindle3.
PDF on the NC:
Uses the QuickOffice suite. I don't know if this is optimized for NC (I think it is), but you may be able to take a "test-drive" of the software on another android device.
Approx. 4 seconds to turn the page on a 160mb PDF.
You must swipe down to page turn, unlike .epub, where you tap left/right. This is often unresponsive, moving the page instead of turning the page.
Does not interpret page renumbering. If book preface is in roman numerals, with the relative numbered pages starting after the absolute numbering. (I.e. Page 1 starting at absolute page number 90), it only displays absolute numbering.
No bookmarking, highlighting, notation. Although it will display highlights made on the computer.
No search of scanned images with an OCR layer of text. I did not test native-created PDF.
Zooming could be better. There is a plus/minus zoom, and it has three or four levels, but nothing inbetween.
Doesn't save your place in the PDF. (Are you kidding me!? And because of the page numbering issue, you have to keep track of two different page number systems. And you cannot just text search for a page.)
I do not know how it handles DRM/password protected textbooks.
Root is starting to roll out for NC. But, I've done a casual inspection of other PDF viewing Android software, and I wasn't impressed.
As of right now, my impression is that the iPad is probably the best PDF tablet solution. Note, I hate Apple, and haven't used any PDF software, but I expect that it is well-done.
I think that the Kindle DX might be a solution (I loved everything about the Kindle3 except that the screen was too small for text-scanned PDFs, and the conversion process wasnt' very good.) However, I don't think I want to carry around the DX. They have demo units at Staples. In a case, the Kindle3 feels sturdy. The DX is so large and thin, it makes me nervous. Maybe I'd feel differently if it had a case. I suppose it might end up being about the size of a legal pad holder. Finally, I don't know how I feel about spending ~$400 on an e-ink tablet, which is limited in the applications it will support.
I'm also keeping my eye on Win7 tablets. Native Adobe Reader might be the best solution.
I'll answer any additional questions.
DroidReader has been seen a lot of activity lately and is quite usable. Follow the google groups mailing list to get the latest test packages.

Hello the Nokia Transit Beta are out now:
Here is the Download Link
Please test it and help Nokia to make it better....

As with all Nokia apps for WP7, the 'enter' key is not highlighted like it is in native apps. For apps that the enter key is a necessary step, it's always white. Based upon the 'common sense' formed from the rest of the WP7 UI, it takes a small leap of logic to realize that a single grey button must be pressed. I digress.
Needs to be able to browse contacts. Manual entry and/or paste will keep me from using it, when I can access my address book via Mango Transit.
Integration into Local Scout would be handy, too. Again, reliance on copy/paste isn't as productive when I can flick over to apps and get immediate transit routing using Mango Transit.
I look forward to Nokia Transit getting bigger and better. I do like the swiping left/right of the different routes when one is in view.
Most advanced GPS calculations app for windows phone just got even more advanced!
GPS Calculator is an advanced app that allows you to do almost anything with GPS coordinates. Convert between 4 different formats (including UTM grid), calculate distances, area, and project points. It also does geo and inverse geo-coding (via bing services), maps true geodesic lines, works both offline and online, and allows you to manage waypoints. GPS Calculator major update to version 5.0 brings new features, including sharing of location in any supported format via sms, email or social, time zone, local time and sunrise-sunset calculations for any location, and the most advanced altimeter available on any mobile platform. With the new Altimeter function you can not only view elevation profile graphs and get current GPS elevation, but also compare it using five different elevation data models! In this update we support SRTM3 (shuttle radar topography mission), ASTER (Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer - a high resolution imaging instrument that is flying on the Terra satellite), GTOPO30 (global digital elevation model from topo maps), USGS elevation data, and finally Google’s elevation data web service.
GPS Calculator is not a tool for everyone. It will not take you from A to B, it does not record tracks or replaces your car GPS. There are plenty other apps that do that. But if you feel a little geeky about GPS technology, or just want to learn about it – you should give GPS Calculator a try. Hey, it is completely free and has no ads too, so there is nothing to lose.
GPS Calculator does speak your language (if it happens to be English, Russian, Italian, Spanish, French, Dutch or Swedish). Kevyn82, BigwaveMx @XDA, NebZonNe, Willem van Vugt, Johan Spanberg and others helped me translate. When Tango ships even more languages will come – including Ukranian, Arabic and Turkish already in the works.
This message would not be very useful without the marketplace link at the end. So here it is:

Nobody saying much here, so I'll say thank you for this useful and interesting app!
Peace
just installed, not bad! thanks
Thank you fellow WP7 users. I appreciate your comments here and even more at the marketplace. It is quite hard for a little non-commercial app like mine get noticed.
And just to let you know - new update with even more useful functions is already in the works.
hi kitya,
will be happy to update the translation if you introduce me to that NebZonNe...
little request : would be nice if we could find the app amongst other "G" named apps...thought the "space" was here for easy testing purpose...
Thank you. I will let you know as soon as I make some progress. Takes some time, sorry
Great Application
I will say this is a terrific app - works like a charm. Very ingenious! I would like to make a request though. If it were possible to save area calculations and email them, that would definitely be a big PLUS!
Thanks - great job! Greg

Thank you! But what exactly do you mean about area calculations saved. Just the result number? It should already be possible even now to select it and copy-paste into an email, if needed.
