Can you use Tilt (8925) as wireless modem via Bluetooth? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I cannot seem to figure out how to use my new 8925 as a wireless modem via Bluetooth as I had my 8525.
Via USB it seems to work but I have not had any luck with Bluetooth and of course the AT&T Tech support has no idea.

1, welcome to xda-devs
2, read the Internet Sharing + PAN BT client tutorials. There're several of them - Google for them.

I have solved my own problem. Duno if anyone else has the same issue.
Seems the tilt just comes missing the shortcut to the internet sharing.
If you want Internet Sharing via Bluetooth do the following steps
1- Open File Explorer
2- go to the "\Device\Windows" Folder
3- Touch and Hold on "Internet Sharing" and select COPY
4- Go to "\Device\Windows\StartMenu\Programs" and Touch and Hold and select PASTE
5- Restart Device
6- Enjoy!

you didnt have to copy the whole program, could have just made a shortcut to it.
you should also take a look at wmwifirouter

my XP desktop can't net share via bluetooth either but if i use USB my tilt shares just fine.
couldn't find anything helpful in the guides, just lots of references to the toshiba stack

Just like a any BT accessory, you must make your phone visible & pair it.

If you have a WiFi card on your laptop, try using WMWiFiRouter instead. It has been discussed many times in this forum.

The file "Internet Sharing" was a link, the exe was something along the lines of intshar.exe or something. If you COPY instead of COPY SHORTCUT than your link wont have a pretty icon (its only 26byte file)
btw. wmwifirouter looked kool

Bluetooth sharing

I don't know if i'm missing something here, but the bluetooth manager folder in file explorer seems useless. It never finds any of my devices and i have no idea why. It says searching but can't find anything. It can't find my 8525 when it' on and visible. Does the 8525 have to have this for it to work? If not, how can i get it working? Thanks

I had problems with this too, couldn't find the receiver device when trying to send a file.
This worked for me:
You have to do kinda "shake hands" of the devices the first time.
Goto Start menu -> settings -> connections -> bluetooth -> devices -> add new device
(could be named a little bit different, I translated from my german device)
You will be asked for a password. I normally use 0000 (standard BT password), even if it's not the savest way I think
The other device will recognize this and also askes for the password.
Once the device is mentioned in the devices list, sending and receiving to/from it will be possible.
I hope this was what you asked for.
Greetz,

My problem
I have done the whole pairing thing but when i do the discover services it say no services found and it's not connected please advise
u need to go in the BT configuration and under FTP tab check the Enable File Sharing.
For some reason or maybe for me only, this settings does not stick, and I have to do it anytime I want to exchange files. But once I tick the box, I am able to transfer files, contacts and such.
On the same FTP page you can choose to activate the BT explorer. This will browse other BT enabled phones ?! I guess. More like BT jacking?!
is there a cab for the BT Explorer as it is not cooked into the rom I have ??

4 Questions (WifiRouter, PTT Button, Change My Docs, & HTC Brightness Icon Fix)

Hello to all. I don't expect you to know the answers to all of these questions. If you know one or more, can you please reply. I've tried to search for about a week and couldn't do it, so if ya can help me out that would be great. Greatly appreciated!
1. I downloaded WifiRouter and did everything it said, changed my IP address, ran the program, created an Adhoc network and when I connect my laptop it says it's connected, which is a success, but it my laptop doesn't have an internet connection. The whole point is to share your internet via wifi using an Adhoc connection right? It's not working for some reason. I've tried this wifirouter program in hopes that I can share internet via my wifi with my friend's laptop.
2. I need a program where I can change the PTT button on the AT&T Tilt. I want to customize the buttons on the right and left of my AT&T Tilt to open up programs. I've searched and can not find the program.
3. How the heck do I change the default folder of My Documents to something else so when I'm sending files to my phone via bluetooth it goes to my storage card or a separate folder NOT My Documents? I want to change it to my Storage Card from now on. Can't find the program.
4. Where is the brightness fix for the HTC Home? I search and found one here on xda and it crashed my phone. The brightness icon does not work and I've tried multiple HTC Home's and the brightness just won't work on my AT&T Tilt. Does anyone know a definite fix. I heard it was some dll file that I have to replace.
Thanks

3. In the Register. (Use KaiserTweak for that)
4. Update your ROM.

Alittle help please :D

Hey, i just got my HTC Touch Diamond yesterday and i'm already loving it. Well i was looking around to improve it even more and found a couple of things like the tweaks and stuff but how would i go and put them on my phone? like .CAB files, Gsen, Diamond TF3D Config, lightsaber, and disabling 3G and... w/e that other one was that connects to internet other then wifi. Thank you if someone could answer my questions
Easiest would be to copy them via activesync / Mobile Device center, or just connecting the Diamond as a Storage device. Just connect the USB cable to your PC.
So i pretty much just drag and drop them into a folder of my chose and it'll work? Also do i do the same with tomtom7 application and maps?
hmm.. I did what you said and i just put the unzipped files into the harddrive in my program files but it didn't work i tried opening setup but it's and opera file.
on another not where can i get the cab file for no 3G ?

Accessing a local share via file manger..

I have a local file server accessble via wifi (or should be) its "\\server"
WHEN Wifi is on and connected and I put that in File Manager "\\server", it says cant connect, but if I put that in PIE it goes there.
Anyone have any ideas how I can get this to work? It used to work in WM6.0.
You should try Resco File Explorer; a LOT better for that purpose. I have been in a similar situation in mapping the drive and it works flawlessly. There's a 15 day trial to check it out; think you'll be pretty impressed.
Try "\\servername\sharename"...
try to access a particular share instead of getting the shares list by using the "\\servername" convention...
try something like "\\servername\sharename" and see what happens...
alternately, i highly recommend schap's rip of the HTC Network Plugin v1.0 Build 30468...it will make the steps of accessing commonly used local shares a whole lot easier by allowing you to map the drive into the "\Network" folder on your device...see 4th post in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359458
enjoy!!!
I dont want to buy Resco, but it does work nicely.
\\servername\sharename fails as well and \\servername\sharename\ etc..
I will try the plugin and see. (Update) I instlled it and cant find it anywhere.. How do I "use" it?
Thanks!

Total Commander is free and does this well.
It also has a registry editor, text editor.
Did I mention it is free.
Another thing to check...
maybe your wifi connection is set up in "Internet" mode as opposed to "Work" mode...might explain why it works via PIE...
i think i remember experiencing total failures accessing local shares if my wifi connection was set up as "Internet"
on Settings->Connections->Wifi, edit the particular wifi connection you use and on the first page in the second combo box labeled "Connects to:", make sure the value is "Work"
give that a shot and let us know!!!
That was it!! Thanks! Odd setting really.

woohoo!!! i'm a noob WinMo user as of May 2008 with my Tytn2...coming from 5 years of using something from motorolla that was equivalent to a nokia 3310...totally basic PHONE in the truest sense...no color screen, no camera, big and clunky, pathetic interface...useful ONLY for voice and sms
but my point is that coming from decades of using Windows, somehow WinMo makes sense in a microsoft kind of way with all its occassionally cryptic features and inexplicable odd behaviors...i'm a geek and i'm lovin' it
before this thread is closed, the network plugin is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED...i used to use resco for mapping drives but found its behavior to be erratic when my wifi signal was weak...sometimes taking ages to try to open a share just before the wifi icon would show that the connection had dropped
network plugin, IMHO, seems to work a bit better...YMMV

check in Settings->Connections->Network Plugin
while resco's network drive mapping configuration is accessible only from within resco (even though the shares resco mounts are accessible system-wide in any application whether resco is running or not), the network plugin gives a better "integrated" feeling with WinMo even though it is not much different from resco's capabilities
Got the HTC network plugin working. Now I have 2 ways to access the share.

Is it possible to allow the X1i internet access through a PC that has a connection to the internet itself?

This has been asked, discussed and answered before.
May I suggest you to search previous threads titles to find ample details about this
BTW: YES it works a treat and it's worth (at least for me)
I can share my 3600kbps HSDPA internet to my laptop and my PC by just plugging the USB cable or thru WiFi
All you need is activesync and launch the "internet sharing" program

That's the other way around from what he wants, from what I understand he wants to share from PC to phone. You need to check "enable advanced network functionality" on the phone, and configure ActiveSync to share the connection, forgot which part of the AS UI it's in (I've been using Vista for too long, and Vista does this by default)
Um...yeah, my xperia does this automatically. I have not configured anything either on the phone, or on the pc itself. I have customized all the programs that need internet updates (like weather, rss feeds etc.) to update themselves when the phone is connected to the pc. Works like a treat and it doesn't matter if it's activesync or simple usb data connection.

Leddy thank you. The "enable advanced network functionality" on the phone was already checked, but I still could not find the desktop pass-through option in my ActiveSync 4.5 software on the desktop.
I did not give up though and I've finally got mine working - so for those who experience the same issue, this is what I did:
1. Open Registry Editor on your desktop (Start/Run and type "regedit") and locate the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services.
2. Right-click on the value list and choose New/DWORD value. Type the name "AllowLSP" and leave the value zero. Disconnect and connect your device and programs on your phone will now have internet access.
This worked well for me. Another possibility that I haven't tested is because I set my "Computer is connected to the Internet" as illustrated here:
http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2006/11/20/wmdc-activesync-pass-through-feature.aspx
Thanks guys!
I think it needs set up proxy setting on PDA and install proxyserver soft on PC...
thank you for the sharing... will try....
Internet by Activesync
Also, If you PC is running a firewall, you might need to 'allow' activesync in the firewall settings.
