Hi all,
I'd like to start a thread concerning Radio GSM updating. (For Wizard G3)
Which Rom's are available and what are the experiences.
How to update and which tool to use to update.
The aim is to gether the information instead of fragmented in many threads.
(I spend many ours on this forum and found lots of info, but not so much about the Radio GSM ROM, furthermore when you use the search function you might end up in the wrong thread)
I hope all the cookers and engineers will post and many users will react with there experiences.
What's your radio. You should up radio Rom which attached in OS if your radio <2.2. It's safer.
Radio attached in OS
Ok,
that sounds interesting. I bought a used Wizard with a German WM5.
Off course I'd like a ducth OS WM6. So found a great one cooked by DRAVEN187!
I CID-unlocked (It wasn't SIM locked) it and flashed the ROM which was great. Then I was experiencing trouble with the Bluetooth of my new car (Citroen C4 GP) and decided to upgrade the IPL/ SPL and Radio.
I succeeded in upgrading the IPL and SPL but not in the Radio. So the IPL/SPL are 3.08 and the radio is 1.08.
My qeustion is: how can I determin if a OS has also a radio inside?
If i got it wright you mean first to upgrade with an OS with the Radio included < 2.2. Where Can I find this?
If this is done is it advisable to flash the dutch WM6 (again) and upgrade the Rom to a even higher version?
Does this higher radio version solve the communication problem with the car-bluetooth? (actually I don't think so...)
It seems more people experiencing trouble with WM 6 and car-bluetooth. Is there a cooker who can repair this?
Thanks for helping
There should be no ROM makers that will bundle Radio ROM to it.
And...there are standalone installers for Radio ROM only such as 2.71 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1808328).
Bluetooth problem is a OS problem, upgrading Radio ROM should not help (I have a i.Tech Clip S that doesn't work with any devices that uses WM6 ROM and Microsoft BT stack, no solution)

Hi, I have a pda2k and am trying to work out which is the best Rom version to upgrade to. I have tried to work this out from the wiki and other posts but am still unsure, and am slightly nervous! I also cannot find many posts from other people who have upgraded pda2ks.
The versions I am currently running are below.
ROM Version: 1.12.22
Extended ROM version: 1.12.169
Radio Version: 1.02.00
Is this latest Imate rom (i-mate_PDA2k_WWE_12200_162_10600_SHIP.exe) the best one to install or would something like the 1.33 Siemens rom be better (would it work on this device)?
Thanks
Pda2k rom upgrade
A new rom upgrade is available at www.clubimate.com.
Thanks Junie, the rom I refer to in my post is the latest English rom on the clubimate website. I was wondering if that was the best one to install.
Well Wiki says that the highest is the imate 1.31 (Arabic) with radio 1.06.02 and cooking your own exteneded rom.
It does not tell you how to use the siemens rom as nobody has posted to the "List of know Blueangel, sold as, Model ID, Operator code ect" thread.
But you can read that siemes thread to work it out.
Wiki does tell you how to fix the probem of lack of a camera with the siemens rom if you went that way.
thanks mda. I think I am going to go with the 1.22 imate rom with my own extended rom.
Don't forget the 1.33.10 upgrade from the SX66 Update made possible for PDA2K by mamaich! I used that plus the Camera reinstate CAB file I made and my PDA2K nicely. I am now getting proper voicemail notification icons on Cingular's network.
Yes, I have been looking at that. One thing I noticed is that there is no ms_.nba. This means that the fix.bat gives me errors. Is this normal?
The mamaich hack version is only the os, this is due to the fact that the ext rom is someting that you should cook your self and that the radio is outdated.
The original rom was made with the new encription, mamaich! reboxed it so that it would work with the tools.
I too have a PDA2K and am running the 1.33.110 WWE Siemens rom with 1.06.02 radio from the qtek rom, and I applied the Wlan patch, the 3900 build upgrade, and the camera patch, and all is well.I get good b/t range now (25ft) and the wifi does not disconnect me.I just put on the O2 plus cab too,and it seems to be alright.I like the Icons, but it does slow the unit down a little sometimes.

Please tell me which Bluetooth headset works best with your PDA2K. We have matching versions on everything, but I can't get more than 3 feet line-of-sight away from my PDA2K with my HS810 or my Meritline Bluetooth headset. Almost makes me think the BT on this phone is useless.
ok, flashed the siemens bios with radio. works great and was much easier than I thought!

Nice setup you have there, BeyondtheTech...!
How do you like your system at the moment? Is this setup working for you and is the iMate stable? If so, would you mind uploading your CABS, so I can play with them as well?
As far as BT, I upgraded to 3900, was not satisfied, BT headset got worse. Then I bought a new headset (Logitech, BT supporting version 1.2), downgraded to 3500, applied the patch, and all seems ok now.
Hope that helps ya!
I am using a Motorola HS820. I was using a jabra, but it sucked! I got my radio from the Qtek 1.22.167 WWE rom.It seemed to be better than the radio in the 1.22.557 rom for some reason. It is very stable now.
At about 15ft the b/t starts to get a little bit of static, but is clear enough to use easily. At 25ft you are at the end of you're USABLE range, tho!
Hope this helps......Later

I would love to try your solution!
Did you install the complete 1.22.167 WWE ROM or did you extract the radio.nbf and replaced it with the one on your OEM ROM?
I had been using the 1.22.167WWE Qtek Rom w/1.06.02 when the Siemens Rom came out,so the radio was the easy part. The rest,I read and got alot of help.....LOL

So, we have to wait for somebody to re-upload it ^^
Greetings all. I am new here, but hopefully I will be able to contribute in some small way to the community. After reading about the wiki, ROM kitchen, and cooking, I have a few small questions that will help me jump into the waters and help out.
I have a new PDA2K on Cingular here in the U.S. that came with ROM 1.22.00 WWE Radio 1.06.00 and EXT ROM 1.22.162 WWE.
I would like to update to the most recent ROMs for the Radio, primary, and extended ROM and still retain the new version of KSE Truefax 2.09 and possibly other software that came as part of the package from I-mate.
When cooking a ROM: Is it possible to retain any of the software from your own ROM and aggregating it with the best radio ROM, make a unit that is truly updated in every way possible? If I took elements from the "i-mate_PDA2k_Arabic_13100_112_10600_SHIP" release that is on the FTP site and added the 1.08 or 1.10 radio ROM, would I have certain components that are in Arabic or is that concept misleading?
My point is: I think will I lose the software that came with the unit when I cook a ROM to update the unit and I would like to keep it as I paid for it in my purchase price and I would like to use components from other language ROMs but am concerned I will have components in my phone after the update that are in a language I cannot read.
Please guide me if you have a moment.

I had hoped that I had covered all of this is wiki, but it seems not.
your deivce has 3 parts
1) the os version and its language
2) the extneded rom
3) the radio
each of these can be updated one at a time or all together.
1) The os part is based on the windows version and its build, if you can find a versiont that works with our tools you can update that. In this case the 1.31 arabic in WWE is a good choice.
2) the Extneded rom is based around the applicatons that the porvider gives you as well as the provider customization. Here you can pick and what you want and the term that we use on this site is cooking.
You will need to flush your exteneded rom and cook a new one with what you feel you want (like applications) and you feel you need (as in porider customisation)
3) The radio is based on the type of device you have and in your case can be updated to 1.08.00 as we have yet to find a copy of the 1.10.00
So your issue of the fax software is solved in the cooking of the exteneded rom. allas the files have gone as some nice person has trashed 2 months of work and deleted them. however the 1.22 kitchen is again around so you can get what you need from there or from your device. copy them into your exteneded rom, edit the config.txt and perform a hard reset.
So to keep the stuff you have you need to save the cabs out of your extended rom, update the device (os and radio), flush the exteneded rom and cook your own rom (all covered in the kitchen).
You will do fine and if you have a problem just post it.
Answer
This is exactly the sort of definitive and succinct answer I needed. Your simple clarification has helped me and will no doubt help others. Thank you, again.

WHOAH!
Am I reading this correctly? So I can pretty much update to whatever ROM version and radio version I want, regardless of language? Anything I need to look out for in particular? I've got the upgrade bug now! Got my BT upgraded to 3900.
ROM 1.22.00 WWE
Radio 1.06.00
extROM 1.22.162 WWE.
How far can I go in an English version? Or does it matter so long as my windows version is English?
Thanks again!
Sam
hi everybody,
do somebody know anything 'bout an new update?..
i ve heard bout a test version 2.8.x but i cannont find it anywhere. and when will be the new one released.
greets from the chiemsee
we are currently on version 2.17/2.18 FINAL (Qtek ROM). T-Mobile haven't released any new yet.
I've not looked into upgrading my ROM yet as there seem to be so many horror stories around here.
Could someone say what the main benefits of newer ROMs are (I'm using the latest UK T-Mobile factory-fitted ROM at the moment) and what the dangers of installing non T-Mobile ones are? (I've already turned off most of the T-Mobile rubbish, but I don't want to suddenly lose Text or MMS messaging, or my default GPRS internet connection, etc). And if I upgrade the ROM, can I just use something like SPB Backup to restore all my applications, messages, etc. automatically or do I need to re-install applications by hand?
Andre
The new Rom is faster, has DirectPush Support and there are a few other little things better. And in the QTek Rom is no T-Mob. branding.
The Danger (with all rom updates, not only with non T-Mob. Roms): It's possible that you damage or destroy your device. Important is that you use lokiwiz to unlock your MDA for other Roms than from T-Mob.
I recommence reinstalling the apllications by hand. yfor mails etc. you can use spb backup. (if you haven't it on your pc to resync too)
i know about the new qtek 2.18.. but here in the forum in a topic the tell about 2.8 t-mobile test rom or beta rom.. possibly a wrong number... do anybody still have this rom?.. better in german lang.. or a way to downgrade from the new qutek to t-mobile... cause i don t know if it s possible to take my baby back in "real" t-mobile-flair if there is a problem with warranty someday....
greets and thx for the fast answeres

Hello,
I'm also using a T-Mobile Vario with following device info:
ROM version 1.6.2.4 WWE
ROM date 11/15/05
Radio version 01.12.10
Protocol version 4.0.13.23
ExtROM version 1.6.2.105
But I'm not on T-Mobile network and I use 802.11g wireless instead of GPRS, so I don't care about whether or not to stick with T-Mobile ROMs.
Could anybody please advise if it's OK for me to update other, a newer and better one hopefully, on my device? If so could you please recommend the newest set of ROMs.
BTW, I'm a newbie and I don't understand what Protocol and ExtROM are, and if I should install them, and if yes where to find them? Can you please explain. Thank you.
Rgds,

Hello,
Just to update that I've upgraded my Wizard with the new Qtek ROM. It works much faster and there's now no problem with Wifi anymore.
Device Info:
ROM version: 2.17.7.2 WWE
ROM date: 2/10/06
Radio version: 02.07.10
Protocol version: 413.1.03
ExtROM version: 2.17.7.102
Can anybody please advise what does the ExtROM do and if I can exclude it from the device? Any good in doing this? Thanks
Qtek ROM
Where can you get the Qtek ROM for MDA Vario from? I am also on UK t-mobile rom. its just too slow sometimes! but i dont want to damage the unit so which one is better Qtek to Imate KJAM rom and which version is the best one to download and where can I get them?
Thanks I know these are very silly basic questions!
Hello,
I honestly don't know which ROM is better, I just tried Qtek one because I saw it most updated. Luckily it went smoothly for me. If you've got the UK T-Mobile please make sure that you've unlocked its CID beforehand.
You can get the ROM from here:
ftp://xda:[email protected]_2170702_21707102_20710_QTEK_WWE_Ship.exe
That's the newest English version.
Hope this helps.

I'm running the T-Mobile custom rom built on 2.17 and it works very well. As long as you follow directions and not panic if thngs look as if they are going astray, you shoudl be ok. I've upgraded, downgraded and upgraded again about a dozen different times with only one time having it going south on me. I just used the bootloader method of flashing and was abale to get out of trouble. I would use aWizard to to a full rom backup before doing a flash in case you want to downgrade. Over all, I do not know whether it is necessary but I always runb the unlock before the upgrade, even if I did it already. 3 minutes of time but could save your rear end . . . just my 2 cents . . .
Can you use T-Mobile USA rom on a UK Vario (Wizard)?
Hi all,
Just wondering if you can use the T-Mobile USA rom on a UK vario?
It seems the US version (2.17) is a lot newer than the UK version (1.06)
My advice would be to use the latest QTek rom of the desired language.
Make sure you make a backup of the current extROM beforehand.
After the upgrade you can install the backupped cabs you want by hand.
This gets you the most stable situation.
On the wiki there is a brief explanation of the various files in extROM
Its been a while since I've on here. And I'm looking to upgrade my Cingular 8125 yet again.
PART-I:
Ok the first thing I want to try is just upgrading my Radio Rom since I'm missing calls and voicemails with no notification. My current Radio Rom is 02.25.11 and I seriously need this upgraded so any suggestion to which rom to use. (Please give me a link for upgrading Radio Rom only)
PART-II:
Maybe its time for me to upgrade the full ROM which is right now 2.17.7.2 WWE with Ext Rom 2.25.11.102. Its been pretty good. Not the fastest but has been very stable for me. Any rom's I should upgrade to, maybe even the Crossbow?
flash the t-mobile one that everyone loves, for the radio 2.26, then flash another which has the ext rom you want
I don't like wm6, it's buggy, and some progs don't work fully such as sbp products
superrom is quickest for me
followed by molski's 2.3
check the stickies for lockiwiz to get the t-mob, google for the others/pirate bay etc
All I want to do is get my QTEK 9100 to work with my new Parrott MK6000 hands free kit so that I can stream music through my car speakers. Parrot have told me on their forum:
http://www.parrot.biz/forums/english/viewtopic.php?id=3759
to update to the latest ROM for my device. Is there an issue with audio streaming with the QTEK 9100? I think I read on one of these threads that there was, hence the reason I am trying so hard to update.
The device info for my QTEK is as follows:
ROM Version: 2.17.7.2
Rom date: 2/10/06
Radio Version: 02.07.10
Protocol Version: 413.1.03
ExtROM Version: 2.17.7.102
I have been reading this forum for ages now. I have unlocked my CID (even though the device is G4 and I now understand that that was not necessary) and I have tried to update to the ROM on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1172977&postcount=361
but have recieved an error 300 message.
Is that because that ROM is not compatiable with my PDA?
If that is the case, is it only the ROM's on this page
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Wizard_Upgrades
that are compatiable with the respective phones and if that is the case then I must have the latest ROM and can not upgrade any further?
I would like to have the very latest ROM (just to be flash) and have therefore set my computer to retrieve the seed for Faria's latest ROM version on this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291806&page=85
is that going to work or am i wasting my time?
Any help would be really appreciated and I am sorry if I have missed something whilst scanning this forum.
there are a bunch of roms out there , seems like everyone has there own cooked version.
It is possible that your pda/phone doesnt like that rom version.
Try finding another rom image?
jeff
Can anyone recommend one that might possibly work? Its just that its difficult to tell from all the different ones out there. Also does the Rom Image have to be specific for my phone or will any do?
