Hi
I'm gonna get to the point i need help... determining the pros and cons of xhtml tables and CSS procedures and what actually differentiates them...
loading speed of the site.
In tables you'll tend to repeat the same code over and over again.
In css, it wont keep reloading the code since you are using a template.
I'd go with CSS if you know how to for a faster loading of your site.
I'm a web developer and see this arguement almost everyday. The fact of the matter is CSS is the best and cleanest option however with complicated layouts you doing with tables turns out to be the faster and stress free option. Mainly because of browser compatibility.
So if your layout is simple stick to keeping it CSS if it's a little more involved like 3 coloumns just use a table.
Google, yahoo and MSN use tables and are not W3C valid.
edit...
It will only really affect the loading times if your table is clunky and you have lots of cells etc. You can still style the table in your CSS to keep code organised and minimal.

PikoWiki Optimizes Wiki-Editing for Phones
If your net-connected phone or PDA lacks an easy-to-sync note-taking application, or you just prefer the open-ended nature of wikis, PikoWiki is one of the better mobile-friendly wikis out there. A super-slim interface gives you all the tools you'll need to make and edit notes and lists, and search or browse your pages. Those with basic HTML knowledge don't have to learn a single bit of wiki style, and anyone can try it out on the demo pages provided. The real benefit, of course, is getting at those same notes from any other browser you find yourself at. PikoWiki is free to sign up for and use.

I've been programming for 3-4 years, about 1-2 of those years in C++(the rest in html, php, gml, js, and crapy stuff like dat). No Java, but I've heard its really easy to learn especially if you already know C++.
anyways, I've read the google tutorials and they haven't helped me since they make you download code instead of writing it (like the notepad tutorial).I've also seen all the videos that explain how android works, and I've read the stuff about it. I just want a tutorial that walks you through the process of programming an application.
basically what I want to learn is:
- How to tell if the user pressed a button, or interacted with a view
- draw an image to the screen
- open and close activities, like for a game you switch from the 1st level to the menu
- How to save data to a file, or database(whichever is best)
and things like displaying a list of items, or an alert and stuff like that.
I already setup eclipse and ran the Hello, Android application in the emulator AND my G1 with adb. So I just need to learn how to write the code
My goal(currently) is to make a picture on the screen move to the right when the user presses something(button, key, trackball, screen), but with my code, not cut & paste. I'll just turn that into a game later.
please help me with this, I've always wanted to develop apps for android(ever since I heard of it ). sorry if this sounds like a retarded question, but I've searched everywhere and I haven't found a good tutorial, and I cant buy a book
PS. I use the eclipse plugin for visually designing the layouts

I don't exactly remember from my HTML java applet days, but you can write straight to vm's frame buffer and write a simple program to change the position of the element scrolling it either way you want. Also, java input in html applets can be aided with javascript, so i used javascript to listen for user input and then have java respond to it, but that was over 10 years ago and I dont remember now T_T
really? thats helpful...
EDIT:
I've already read these tutorials on java: http://www.freejavaguide.com/corejava1.htm
How is this thing for viewing medical journals and text books in pdf? When you side load the pdf is it easy to view and zoom in on the multi column pages of texts like the ipad? Or crappy like the original nook?
Thanks.

Here's a video of the NC viewing a PDF: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEh0y0safQs&t=0m52s
Also, that's just the default NC app. With it rooted you could install any Android PDF reader.
Terrible for textbooks. I've been meaning to write a review of my experiences. I got the NC almost entirely for use with PDF textbooks, after being disappointed with the Kindle3.
PDF on the NC:
Uses the QuickOffice suite. I don't know if this is optimized for NC (I think it is), but you may be able to take a "test-drive" of the software on another android device.
Approx. 4 seconds to turn the page on a 160mb PDF.
You must swipe down to page turn, unlike .epub, where you tap left/right. This is often unresponsive, moving the page instead of turning the page.
Does not interpret page renumbering. If book preface is in roman numerals, with the relative numbered pages starting after the absolute numbering. (I.e. Page 1 starting at absolute page number 90), it only displays absolute numbering.
No bookmarking, highlighting, notation. Although it will display highlights made on the computer.
No search of scanned images with an OCR layer of text. I did not test native-created PDF.
Zooming could be better. There is a plus/minus zoom, and it has three or four levels, but nothing inbetween.
Doesn't save your place in the PDF. (Are you kidding me!? And because of the page numbering issue, you have to keep track of two different page number systems. And you cannot just text search for a page.)
I do not know how it handles DRM/password protected textbooks.
Root is starting to roll out for NC. But, I've done a casual inspection of other PDF viewing Android software, and I wasn't impressed.
As of right now, my impression is that the iPad is probably the best PDF tablet solution. Note, I hate Apple, and haven't used any PDF software, but I expect that it is well-done.
I think that the Kindle DX might be a solution (I loved everything about the Kindle3 except that the screen was too small for text-scanned PDFs, and the conversion process wasnt' very good.) However, I don't think I want to carry around the DX. They have demo units at Staples. In a case, the Kindle3 feels sturdy. The DX is so large and thin, it makes me nervous. Maybe I'd feel differently if it had a case. I suppose it might end up being about the size of a legal pad holder. Finally, I don't know how I feel about spending ~$400 on an e-ink tablet, which is limited in the applications it will support.
I'm also keeping my eye on Win7 tablets. Native Adobe Reader might be the best solution.
I'll answer any additional questions.
DroidReader has been seen a lot of activity lately and is quite usable. Follow the google groups mailing list to get the latest test packages.

Helllo! I am Russian, my English is not very good, but I have not success with my idea in my country (nobody cares about health).
I want to talk about absolutely another way for health caring, if you compare this with traditional design and usability.
Now we have a LOT of people with glasses. People take their first glasses in childhood, and most of them using tablet or PC very often, and this is really bad. Also, we can see something like this (it's not me , and it's very bad to.
Why his back is a curve? It's not only "bad habbit" of one man, it's a problem of many people . I think that the reason of bad back and glasses is very simple and stupid - he (we) physically can not see text well, and glasses or curve back it's a trying for compensation!
So, if we want to have health people, developers should rebuild old methods of text displaying, because they are not compatible with our health!
Most of Russian spend a lot of time for sitting in our social network. VK.COM . If we talk about PC (not mobile phone or tablet), it uses 11px font by default! It's not only very small font, it's very low detailed font, especially, if we remember, that "program" DPI is 96 (in paper this is 300). Really display DPI in windows does not matter - font drawing in 3 times less.
I want to say we should use 16px/12pt font size by default, and stop use small font size. It's something like this (if we say about detalization)
Why 16 px? Firstly, it is compatible with 12 pt (12pt*96dpi/72=16px). So, we can use 16px not only in web, but also in Window interface. Secondly, I want to say that "bigger is better", but 18px (for example) in most of font look absolutely different (bolder) with 12-17px, it is unusual for some people.
Also, I want to say about features of human text perception. Long line length (more 100 symbols) is not good for us, and text understanding becomes worse. If we read books, line length physically can not be very long, but in the Internet a lot of text (for example, Wikipedia) do not consider this. Bigger font size can reduce line length, but developers should to consider it.
I mean, that most of children hate reading, because this associated with big eyes's strain (small font-size), curve back and inability to get text well (loong line-length).
Also, some rules are existed - if we use bigger font and shorter line-length, we should reduce line-height. Default line-height is 150%, I think we need to reduce it to 136%.
So, these principles can be simple realized in CSS:
*{font-size:16px;
line-height:136%}
I called it ESI - eyes saving interface, and it have realization in plugin, which load custom CSS for sites. There is not only font-size and line-height, it includes rebuild site rebuilding. I does not make it good, but something like this:
It's usual VK
It's ESIed VK
It can looks unusual and bad, if compare it with traditional representation of design, but I believe it's better for health.
ESI is better, than scaling, because we don't lost information, and ideally we can control base FONT-size.
It's YouTube
It's ESI YouTube.
Ideally, user need to have an opportunity for manual tuning of base text parameters.
It's wikipedia's control (prototype). You can choose font-size, line-height, max-width, and you can change font-family (for big texts it's preferred use serif, but apply it for every element it's too global)
Also, ESI realized to Windows in themes, you can download it and try. You can apply it correct to the Windows 7 (maybe Vista) only, because Windows 8 has independent font setting.
But Windows have some "bug" - you can set 12pt for icon's text, but horizontal spaces are not in theme. It means, that icon's names will look like
«Wind...» int 12 pt, not «Windows» in 8(9?)pt. In Windows 7 you canenlarge horizontal spaces to 85 (I prefer numbers that are divisible by 17) or something, but in Windows 8 you can not control it, maybe in registry.
So... I think that ESI idea should have some support. Suppose I can rebuild every program and site for comfortable of my eyes, but it's quite hard and eats my time. I'll still see people with poor eyesight and curve back, who hate reading, and I believe, that some developers can affect on it.
Now, you can test ESI with my plugin (it's Stylish with little mod) and give your opinion. You can install it using google chrome bit.ly/esi_c or bit.ly/esi_o for opera. Then you can find esi styles for some sites, Facebook (I did not work on it), Wikipedia, YouTube...
I can not post external link for images...
It's good someone's passionate about this and I think it would be a good idea. I hope one day you vision is achieved (no pun intended)
you can do it!! :silly:
p3d.in - your 3D online
p3d.in
Something like this looks an 'element' like an image, or video, with a framed canvas...
If anyone knows about the technology, I am wondering if these are created in 3DModelling and then exported, or created within the frameworks of web-building? (something akin to CSS?) Or perhaps new platform or protocol that creates by "emulating" 3D modeling with web elements?
ARE THERE? already ways to create say a website that functions in the ways of interactions, interface itself similar to a 3D model?
Suppose FLASH would have been capable, that is being not widely used anymore.
I want to explore some new possibilities in user interface. Everything looks the same, uniform (for good reason). But I feel is a big area of virtually untested waters. I have interest in UI/UX related work.

Does anyone know where to seek jobs that test functionality of websites and apps etc. similar to game tester? I just don't know the titles of these occupations. Power User? power tester?
I believe I naturally possess skills that can collect relevant data, find things things to make better, etc.
