How to turn off data services on wing (tmobile)? - Wing, P4350 Herald Upgrading

I have a tmobile wing and will be discontinuing my use of their internet services.. I want to use the phone only as a phone. I have gone ahead and cancelled my internet plan with them, but i'm concerned my phone still might be using some data services and i'll get charged for each kb.
Is there a way to turn off all data services on the phone?
I've gone ahead and make sure the mail is set to check manually, but i'm concerned there might be some app i forgot about that is set up to check automatically

I believe you can just go to
Settings -> Connections -> Connections and delete your plans, that way the phone wouldn't knwo how to connect ( i think )

yes, you have to delete like 2 or 3 settings in connections, is there a way to specify only to connect through wifi so it doesn't look for gprs?

install Schaps tool ... and u can disable them easily there.

can you provide a little more detail about which one? Looks like he has a few tools/apps

advances configuration tool

u can open the comm manager and disable data

With T-Mobile, they won't let you connect to their network without a data plan. When I got my wing, I got my wife a Dash and no data plan for her. For the first day or two she could connect to the internet via data, so I called a CSR and they told me that if you don't have a data plan, you can not connect at all. No charge by the kb crap that verizon (former customer) pulls. Once you cancel, you are good to go. No extra charges. BTW, 2 hours after I called CS, her data stopped working. I think someone forgot to pull the plug when I signed her up.

like "splayer7" said just cancle your data plan and you will be fine.. there is a glitch with tmobile network from time to time you may get data service BUT you dont get charge for it... it will stop working on its own (i know i work for tmob) IF you reall dont want the phone to connect to data go to settings ---> connections... then click on connection..you should see t-mobile data.. click on manage existing connections.. TAP AND HOLD tmobile data and you should see a submenu come up with connect and delete..select delete and you should be good....

Disable Cellular Data on Tilt/8925

I know this is an odd request, but I'm looking to no-contract purchase a Tilt for a variety of reasons, and one stipulation is that I can disable the cellular data access as I'm unable to currently afford the additional $45 for the data service. So, does anyone know if you can lock the phone to access the internet only through WiFi, or at least to keep it from ever trying to use the 3G network? I know I'll not get the sweet, sweet GPS functionality, but I can wait on that until I can afford the extra money.
Thanks for your help!
I went to Settings and clicked the Connections tab and clicked manage existing connections and changed the number to "isp.cingula" intentionally leaving off the "r" so when the phone tries to connect to data, it has the wrong address. Seems to work for me.
I use NoData from Modaco available here. Its free and works. btw GPS still works, you just need to use software that stores maps on the device. example: TomTom

Haha what a nice workarround =)
Just go into Settings -> Connections -> Connection -> Advanced
Select "My work Network" instead of ATT Connection and voila.
In case you may want to get data again just revert back to AT&T.
I am not familiar with ATT, but they may use a proxy which can cause issue with the wifi, check this if you get trouble with this.
Have you tried adding the Mediamax plan which is only $19.99?
if I add a plan, it'll probably be the MediaMax. But, my company will be adding me to their plan in a few months (and they already have a data package) but my current phone is on its way out, so I need to replace it ASAP.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I appreciate it. One more question, though, do any of you recommend flashing the Tilt to the original HTC firmware, or should I just leave it as is? (That, of course, depends on the fact that the HTC firmware is available.)

How to just use wifi and totally disable media net

Well i dont have a data plan and only want to use wi-fi when available. Should i delete the gprs settings or is there a program to disable it. I ask this because im afraid of it useing the internet and not wifi. Is there a way to do this. I tried and searched no results
thanks
Do the following to remove any data connections, other than wifi
Do the following..
Start > Settings > Connections > Connections > Advanced > Select Networks >
(CHOOSE YOUR CONNECTION FROM THE DROP DOWN LIST).
Choose the one you want. Example MEdia Net
(After Selecting)> Edit > Click and hold on the item next to radio button (example MEdia Net).. when the popup screen (similar to windows right click) comes up click on delete. Then do the following. >> General Tab > Click the button "Delete Settings".
Repeat the steps for other items listed on the drop down list...
NOTE - You cannot delete settings for My ISP & Work Network. Which is fine.
Hope that helps.
P.S - If you ever need the settings back again.. run the Connection Setup Wizard again

Or use Modaco Nodata, which allows you do enable/disable in 2 clicks.....
Bookmarked.
I do it every time I flash, but I always have to re-figure it out.
Thanks!
wow, search could have told you this in no time flat.
I used to have a regular poo poo samsung phone with that irritating buttonmin the middle to connect. Every time I accidentally pressed it, it would try to connect, and I would cancel immediately. Much to my dismay, I still received connection charges just for trying to connect. Fed up, I called ATT, told them my situation, and requested the ability for my ACCOUNT to use internet be blocked--since I didn't appreciate 6-10 bucks in connection charges (sinceI didn't have a plan). They removed it (not just from my phone no., but from all phones on my account) , and anytime I pressed the button, the connection failed. Upgraded over to a tilt, with the same sim card, any media NET connection fails, since any connection is disabled. Ofcourse, removing the bloatware really helps.
Use Modaco Nodata. I am a wifi only. Here @ work, and @ home. So, no data really needed.
I have NO data plan and its the 1st thing I install. It has NEVER allowed any data, and its a toggle. No other setup required.

Wifi does eat batteries though.

Nice of you to repeat someone.

Would anyone that has this .cab file to disable the internet, upload it for me i would really appricate it
I believe the KasierTweak app has the option as well. Of course if you had just searched in the first place I'm sure you would have had your answer several hours ago.

ONLY ONE way to Disable Media Net (AT&T)
The ONLY way to disable Media Net from At&t is to call them and get a WIX block placed on your account. The downside to that is you lose the ability to send/receive picture messages; regular text messages are fine.
I've tried changing connection settings, band settings, etc...
I've tried turning off 3G.
I've tried NoData.
My Touch Pro 2, WM 6.5, keeps connecting to Media Net.... Until NOW, when I had the block placed on my phone account.
I know this is an old thread, but I've been doing intensive searching on the matter, and this page keeps popping up; so I'm posting to let anyone else who's looking know.
IF ANYONE OUT THERE COULD DEVELOP A PROGGIE TO FIX THIS, I'D BE MORE THAN WILLING TO DONATE FOR IT!! (And I'll bet many others would, too!)

Guaranteed data cut off?

Hey all am about to go off roaming with T-Mobile. I know it says the data plan only works in the UK but I'm sure they'll be happy to hit me with the bill if this is not the case.
Is there a way I can 100% stop any data comms from happening?

I just make a dummy data profile with no acess point names or anything and just switch between that and my real one depending on weather i want my diamond to connect to the internet or not lol
No Data doesn't seem to work for me (unless I'm missing something)
I'll try the Dummy connection
Tried blank connection too, no joy unless I need a restart?
Sorry, must've been being dumb before. I installed Advance Comm manager so I could turn off 3G and now it seems to work but I'm not sure if I needed the latter
Cheers anyway
NoData works like a charm for me..
Just install it, run it, and toggle the three different data types.

[Q] How can I remove internet?

Hey guys the G1 data plan is getting too expensive for me and I'm planning to cancel soon. After I call in and cancel, how can I get my G1 to stop trying to access the internet unless its Wifi? Or once I cancel I won't have to worry about this?
I also heard a rumor about changing the APN settings so you can still have and use the internet? Is this true?
no real way to stop the phone from accessing the web since even in the background it sends packets of information. that's just how the phone works that's why you need the data plan for this phone.
i want to cancel the plan cause my sis is paying for mine and i dont want her paying 300$+ a year on me. but i dont want to be charged after i cancel the plan cause my g1 is still accessing the internet. Anyways to prevent it from accessing the internet?

i just said no there is no way to to shut off the internet due to the fact that the phone requires you to have a google account to run it even if you flash a adp build and skip the logon proceedure the phone still access the web in the background without you knowledge you will still get billed for data charges at t mobs data rate which i think is 25 to 50 cents per meg used.
disable auto sync
if you disable auto sync you wont be accessing the internet much (assuming you don't have a ton of news widgets or something) then sync when you're connected to wifi (toggle settings works well for this)

the problem is even with auto sync off the phone still polls the internet in the background for updates and other things you could remove every internet reliant app off your phone and it still polls the internet it just the way android is designed he want to stop all internet traffic which is impossible without hacking the rom beyond what we do or pulling out the sim. even google maps requires to poll the internet in the background without him even turning it on. it's just impossible to stop it completely.
Install APNdroid.
Easiest, simplest, most reliable way: Go into settings>wireless controls>Mobile Networks>Access Point names, then click on each one and hit menu then delete. You will also need to finangle with tmobile through their customer service number in order to get them to cancel 3g for your G1 (they have some kind of a policy that's supposed to mean that you have to have an unlimited data plan with the G1, but if you're patient with them they'll let you cancel and just have voice.)
Even easier way. Download Toggle Data from market. That's what I've been using since I cancelled my plan. No more data in the background, so my battery life is longer. Sometimes my phone goes like 2-3 days without charge. (Of course without using wifi)
apns not only control how the phone connects to the internet it also handles how it connects to make calls which is also how it connect to edge/3g. so see the conundrum we have here removing all apns also kills making calls.
Before I bricked my G1, (I don't have a data plan) I just went to the T-Mobile store and told the guy what I could do to stop the internet. He just changed some kind of port number and stopped the internet so I don't get charged.

I use apndroid all the time(to save battery) and I can still send/receive calls with it.

i wasn't talking about apndroid
i was talking about the guy who told him to delete all his apns
if i use apndroid will i still be able to use wifi? also im using a JACHero's rom and i noticed this in the settings...
Data Sync > Google > Background Date Usage [X]
APN Droid only kills the data.

No, the APN controls cellular data (internet and MMS) only. Voice and SMS are "built in" so to speak - as long as the SIM matches yoru carrier's records, they will work.
Deleting the APNs (or using APNdroid) will block cellular data, leaving voice, SMS and WiFi internet unaffected.

Removed data plan -now what?-

In an effort to cut costs I removed the data plan from my phone. I setup wifi at home since I rarely use the internet while I am away from home and I plan on just stopping using it at all unless I'm home.
Here's my question. I have a lot of apps on my phone and some of them use the net. Without a data plan are those apps going to connect to the internet while I'm away from home and run up my bill?
Is there anything that I need to do on the phone now that I don't have a data plan to ensure that it is all set up to just be a phone when I'm away from home and a fully functional Android device when I'm home and on wifi?
There is an app for your issue. Can't remember the name, but I'm sure someone will come on to tell you.
You have to ask your provider... are they going to let your phone connect to the net and charge you ridiculous fees or they are not going to let you even hook up unless you have a data plan? Because the phone itself will check for stuff every so often. You can disable wireless synk for google stuff but your other apps may still hook up to the net Either way, screwing something up in the apn settings will guarantee you not to be able to get on the net, it may mess up with your mms messages too though.
Good luck
Check my provider? Seriously? T-Mobile just tells me that I HAVE to have a data plan cause they want to make more money
Try APNdroid in the market... it disables the 3g/edge data...
'Toggle Data' is also good. You just tap the icon and it will disable, and tap to enable again. I also don't have a data plan (not all the time anyway) so it's very useful.
WiSyncPlus is your friend from now on.. http://www.cyrket.com/package/mobi.gearsoft.android.wisyncplus
