Jog Wheel to change ring volume? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Ok... so me and my gf both have the AT&T Tilt with the orginal HTC rom. And I was using her phone today and found out she can change the ring volume with her scroll wheel from the home screen (just like on the Touch for example). I installed all her programs and they're pretty much the same ones on mine. How can I have that on my Kaiser also?
Thanks

I'd also like to know how to do this! Anyone have any ideas?

htc Home could be the answer
how many taps u have in each phone are they identical?

I can BUT only if i click on the speaker icon... Then it's normal... But i don't know if is that...

I was looking for some way to use the jog wheel to strictly adjust the volume while in any menu. This must be possible somehow.. has anyone done this before?

I would also like to know if this is possible.
It was very useful on my last HTC

You need to create a shortcut to the volume control and place it in the programs file. you could then map it to a key such as ptt and then use the jog wheel to adjust...... kind of a work around but it would work.

Switching ringer to vibrate

How do I make the phone silent and make it vibrate? I swear I think my phone is missing the instruction manual.
I know I can go into settings > Phone and make it vibrate from there , but is there a quick way to just make it silent if i go to the movies etc . ?
you can click on the speaker icon and move it to vibrate.
or download vibraswitch and assign it to a button
Hi
You can also tap the little speaker icon in the top right of the screen and select the vibrate radio button. This mutes the volume and activates the vibrate function.
Hope this helps.
Phil
Here is a cab for Vibraswitch if you are interested.
You can install this on your Kaiser and then go to Settings>Home>Buttons and assign one of the buttons to Vibraswitch. I assign Button 6 (Hold) so I can put the phone on vibrate without looking at the screen.
Hope that helps.
Wow thanks you guys are very helpful here. I am starting to like this forum.
Glad you found some help. I've been lurking here for ages and have decided that it's time I gave back some of the help I've recieved here over the years...
I also had one more question but figure I might as well ask here instead of make a whole new thread. I am trying to install the mini mozilla fire fox browser, but when I run the CAB, it says installation unsuccessful . Any idea on what I am doing wrong? I downloaded the cab right from the firefox site.

I thought there was a version of vibraswitch that would toggle thru:
sound on - vibrate - mute
I have been searching for it, but I can not find it. Does it exist?

side scroller thing useless, can we..

is any way to remap that scroller on the side to do something more useful like adjust volume or anything? if i want to scroll i can use the little d-pad or the stylus, that thing is just wasting space.
I agree!
Adjusting the volume would be great.

and adding weight... its terrible i tell ya... TERRIBLE...
no but seriously i thought the same exact thing when i bought the phone. now.. i just dont even bother with it.
Volume control would be really handy.
You can adjust the volume with it.
yep, you can adjust the volume with it whilst on a call.
I guess you mean adjust the volume of the ring or the windows sounds - not sure if this is poss or not
i know exactly what you mean....you want it just like the old cingular 8125 was ...instead of a wheel it was more of like a switch that went up or down to adjust volume at any time.
i use that wheel all the time for scrolling. It's WAY faster to navigate than the dpad, ...
Useless is as usless does - scroll wheel and/or tiny OK button

I certainly don't use the scroll wheel as much as I probably should . . . but what about the OK button below the scroll wheel? Talk about useless . . . I don't think I've ever used it except to test it or try to map something useful to it - I truly don't see the point of that button when there's a perfectly good OK button right by the D-pad

Both the wheel and the ok button are there for blackberry device users who use those two input devices as a good 80% of their navigation.
Only problem, blackberry device users try to use the kaiser like a blackberry and find out it sucks in that aspect, and exchange it so they can get their old crackberry back. And PDA users are used to using the other 20 pre-existing ways to navigate the device without using the wheel and OK button.
I feel sorry for those poor wheel/button sometimes.
I like to just play with it sometimes when its in my pocket or i have my phone locked and use it for useless fun.
It's all about choice, isn't it? If you're used to d-pads you probably never go near that wheel, or the little ok button by it. If, like me, you're used to Symbian UIQ phones, which just happen to have a wheel and a "back" (same as ok) button exactly where the Kaiser's are, they're a godsend. Because I'm used to them being the primary controller (no d-pad on a Sony Ericsson P910, or M600i), I use them all the time - the d-pad is just a nice extra. Without them, I'd probably struggle, at least to begin with.
I think HTC have just put a lot of thought into how different people use these devices, and tried to cater for as many as possible.
Try AE Button Plus!

I use the button alot. Maybe because my hands are large I find that using it to ok/close is more comfortable than pressing the one on the face of the device.
For right handed use, anyways. and for picsel browser its mapped to page zooming, so... Its quite handy.

I use the Sprint Plugin
I use the Sprint plugin to accomplish this. Install cabs and throw everything else into the Window dir.
I want to replace one of the Icons to initiate the Task Manager from home screen. Nobody has got an answer for that yet?

thanks for reply fcreeves, this is very helpfull but it is not what I wish to find.
I have extracted only the file WisVol.exe and I am using this to launch the volume application, it is however better than the micro icon on the desktop!!!!
Perhaps, I can give an answer to your question, even if I have well understood the question of course....
I use Spb mobile shell to launch taskmanager. I have remapped the IE hard button to start it and it works great.... you have to give it a try.

Function for Contacts is now video call after official rom upgrade ... HELP !!!

Hey Folks
I upgraded to the official Hong Kong ROM upgrade on my HTC Diamond & whilst impressed by the speed improvements I have a major bug that annoys the hell out of me & thus hope some genius reading this can help fix the problem
On the home tab using the "phone" icon it then shows recent calls. However the left hand button that used to show "contacts" now shows "video call". I never want to make a video call & contacts is far more useful .... but there is no obvious way to change the function
Hoping someone can help
Chill dude.
This ain't a bug, it's a feature.
Personally, I do find video-call usefull, but ill prefer "send SMS"
Do U really need contacts? You can use the keypad T9 to find the person U want to call easily...
Circle your finger around the middle button and it rips thru contacts!

Use your favorite registry editor to navigate to [HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila] and change the following values:
"HomeLSKPath=addrbook.lnk" 'that's the application you want to use
"HomeLSKText=Contacts" 'that's the text that will be displayed on the left soft key on your Home screen
Do a soft reset.
Now your Left Soft Key will display Contacts, so when you press it, you shoul go directly to your contacts. Enjoy!
I've changed mine to Comm Manager.

I don't have a clue how to change softkeys within the phone app, sorry. Looks like I have misread the original post...
Thanks Heretic & others
Yep ... me & 1000 others want to change the key in the phone app
With CT's rom version 4 if I tap Phone soft key on Today screen then tap the little phone icon between the video call and menu softkeys it removes the keypad and leaves me with last call and contacts list...
No ideas anyone .... it is really bugging me
For me i just disabled the phone skin with the Advanced Config tool. It reverts back to the old WM6 design. I still prefer that. Do note that once u do this, the vibration when a call connects is disabled.
Hey KGB-Agent, I have exactly the same problem...and it is bugging me as well! I upgraded my dutch ROM yesterday :-( Another problem I have is that when I look at my contacts the SIM contacts are not displayed, even when I configure this in Advanced Config Tool...HELP! Anyone else an idea how to fix???
Your contacts are opened when your in the phone app, just scroll! why do you want it to open another contacts process when its already there?!? up and down or as i already said circle the middle button with your finger
Hi Blaze,
Circling with my finger in the middle button doesn't work for me. Furthermore, with "Contacts" I could quickly scroll down with the Alphabet on the right to f.e. the letter Z. The way you recommand it takes me ages to get to the "Z"!
I called the HTC helpdesk, they advised me to do a Hard Reset. Of course...that didn't work...:-(
Go to start and choose contacts its the same screen.
I agree the videocall is a bad choice from the makers of this rom.
Most people do not use this kind of calls.
Grtzzz
I have the same issues with the loss of functionality Ries
I cant believe there are not more complaints
I emailed HTC 4 days ago with no answer :<
@kgb-agent: I phoned the helpdesk. They said I had to do a hard-reset!?! I couldn't believe it, but okay, I tried it...and what do you think: I still have the problem! :-( I guess we have to live with it...bad choice from the developers...
same problem
up
Two things:
1) why don't people use the smart dialling feature? this is where when in the phone keypad, you just spell out your contact using the alphanumeric keypad (it uses T9 to search) and it displays your search results in real time at the top of the dial pad... MUCH easier than the contacts screen - try it.
2) circling the middle button with your finger does NOT work for me, i have no idea how that is working for you since the diamond is not meant to be able to scroll using that 'wheel' unless you have installed some 3rd party software for it, or its unique to your ROM/region.

Map scroll wheel to sound volume

Does anybody know of a tool/software that always maps the scroll wheel to adjusting the sound volume?
ditto...i desperately need that.
when I was using Alex 6.0 Home Rom, the wheel did adjust the volume .I am not sure if that was due to the dialer he used....
subbin
need this too
Kick!
Anyone know such a tool? I browsed through other posts about it, but seems alot of people are looking for such a tool, but nobody knows one...
