lol alright
pressing the power button on the side?
Surely it's not a good idea to wake your kaiser up by touching the screen? As soon as you put it in your pocket it'll wake up again? That's why companies make it slightly more complex to unlock the phone...

Not sure if this has been reported. But you don't have to press the power button to wake up the Diamond. All you have to do is pull out the stylus....
cool, thankyou for the Tip. I ddn´t realize that, thu I rarely use the stylus anymore because of TF3D.
what if the stylus is lost ?

I think the "extracting" movement is like a power on, so if you extract, you can power off without the stylus in... act like a key pressed without key-lock , right?
wish there was a 3rd alternative to waking it up.
I use the stylus only occasionally and i use a flip case so the power button on top is not that accessible
Cool! I didn't realize that.

I use my bluetooth hands-free button!
It opens Cyberon Voice Speed Dial but... i can live with that!
My finger hurts since I have to press the power button (small and flat) too many times a day to wake the diamond from sleep. you can argue that I can set the phone not to sleep but sleep is a must to save battery. using all keys to wake it up can cause any keys to be easily hit by accident, which drains battery fast too. Power button is meant to be used rarely, like the PC reset button.
is there a better way to wake up the diamond? is it possible to configure ONLY the OK (center) button to do this? like the iphone, you just press the OK button. it is big and does not hurt as much?
How exactly do you keep pressing the power button till your finger hurts?

hit it once does not hurt but every time it go to sleep and I have to hit the button to wake it up. that is when it hurts.
let say I set it to go to sleep every 40 sec. how many time does it go to sleep in an hours? at least couple times.

I've found that the pressure required on the Power Button can depend on the particular Diamond. I've owned two US Diamonds and the first had a difficult Power Button while the second was much easier. Either way, another option to turn it on is to pull out the stylus a short distance - this will wake the Diamond as well. As far as using the center of the D-Pad - I've no idea . . .

even though using the stylus is less painful but it takes more steps: get finger nail in the gap, pull it out, then push it back in. if you do these steps many time over an hour, it would be tidious task.
On my diamond responsivity of the power button depends strongly on where I'm pressing it. You can try to press it different ways and find out where you get most tactile feedback of the micro-switch. I have the impression that for me it is when I'm pressing from behind, more on the left of it.

Yes, but other keys such as volumn, home, back, answer and end key are also unlocked. Anyway, there are all hardware keys available to press opening the phone in additon to the default on/off button. I am now using this option.
ya but they will complain that all the buttons are unlocked. that method is just TOO easy.
edit: OMG i was right. and too slow. hahaha
maybe next time the phone can get u a beer or work for you...man...
Surely this is the Answer..?
OK, the way I see solving this is to have the phone wait longer before auto-locking.
To sort this, go to the following..
Start\Settings\System\Power\Advanced..
Go to 2nd option - It's a tick Box labelled "Turn off Device if not used for.." and adjust it to suit..
This is found in the manual..?
Cheers,
Phil.

well, it´s maybe less a matter of laziness than of speed, my last phone was a slider ... slide, it wakes up, slide, it goes to sleep - superquick
with the diamond it takes one step more:
I use the option "do not lock buttons" in combination with S2U2, most often I press the ok button and slide to unlock
to put the phone to sleep, I press the power button or use gyrator: I just have to turn the phone face down, than the screen goes off (with S2U2 locking)
hm, maybe I should have bought the diamond pro, but diamond is sexier

Power button switches screen on, same button switches screen off. Job done.
Have you ever hit your finger with a hammer and your nail goes black....That hurts!!!
Hi All,
We all known there will be a day that one of the buttons will stop working because it is mechanic. Is there any tool that put all these buttons as touchscreen buttons in the "Taskbar" ?

Here's a silly question,
How do I tell if the N1 is off? Without turning it on?
There have been several times where I've turned it off for the night (force of habit), and later couldn't remember whether or not I had in fact turned it off...
Of course hitting the power button only turns it on if it was in fact off... meaning that I have to wait a whole boot cycle before shutting it down again.
Am I missing something here?

YES the correct forum.. Nexus One Q&A
For all your questions about the Google Nexus One
... but in answer to your Q, perhaps a momentary press of the power button when it is OFF will not turn it on. There fore it is OFF?

Use the trackball to wake mod. Then you can just hit the trackball, if nothing, the phone is off .

plug into usb. if its on, screen will turn on
is there any possible way to be able to touch the screen and return its from the timed out backlight insted of the power button then the actual unlocking....
Not sure about touching screen, but there's an app called NoLock that will make it so there's no lockscreen and hitting the power button unlocks it. Eats battery though.

Is there any way? Probably. Is it a good idea? Probably not. Just having the screen up to your thigh in your pocket would be enough to turn the screen on and thus drain your battery.
Not just drain your battery, but imagine calling people unexpectedly, random texting, somehow enabling options and selecting factory reset . There's a reason why there's a lock/unlock button.
Being a lefty, I wish you could turn the screen on using the volume buttons instead.

I can. Hold them for a second and the screen should turn on when you release them. If it doesn't let me know I'd like to investigate further.

Nope, not working. It turns it on using NoLock but then that just changes the volume too.

Holding the volume button does not turn on the screen, you probably touched the power button with you middle finger which holding the volume button with your thumb.
Widget Locker
Try the app WidgetLocker--it's a couple bucks but lets you turn on the screen with the volume buttons if you want (any hardware button). It will also let you customize your lockscreen with widgets and unlock the screen using the soft keys at the bottom if you so desire.
Mentioned this app in previous threads, should really start getting a cut from the developer.

You really should believe people when they say something works. Just because your rom works one way doesn't mean anything about everyone else.
Now if someone would give me a link to the roms which don't unlock due to the volume buttons, I might be able to fix that.
lmao love the music

I am not using a custom ROM. Maybe some custom ROM has that feature added but it definitely does not work on stock AT&T ROM.

I wish the volume buttons were lower on the case. I have a tendency to squeeze them with my finger when pressing the power button one-handed.
