Annoying After-text noise - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I'm having a problem with my XDA Stellar. O2 always displays your credit on screen after and call/text in the form of a network message. The thing is i can't find out if you can turn off the sound for these alerts. I've tried changing everything under "sounds and notifications" but it doesn't seem to be in there. The only way i can stop it making noise is to turn the sound off on the phone completely which means i then have to turn it back on before using something like tomtom.
So my question is, can this sound be turned off and if not can the alert be turned off altogether?
Thanks

Perhaps kaiser tweak will help.

No, unfortunately as good as KaiserTweak is, it has nothing to help me.

Bump. Does anyone have any idea on what to do about this as it's becoming a serious problem

when the message comes in, which sound does it make?
What im trying to get at is maybe the phone is seeing it as a system even/warning which you can't change through the drop down list but you can disable. Try going to sounds and notifications and on the first page there untick "Events (warnings, system events)" and see if that stops them from making a sound

My wife had this with her 6230i - the solution was to phone O2 and ask them to turn off the notification at their end.

Yeah, thats what I did to disable text message sounds. It works. Settings>Sounds&Notifications>Notifications Tab.....and im sure you'll figure out the rest.

How is this a serious problem? Someone that has cancer has a serious problem.. Anyways, turning off the sent notification in the KaiserTweak didn't work for you? Maybe one of the registry gurus can figure it out.

It plays the "notify" sound. I can turn off literally everything in sounds and notifications including events and programs and it still makes a noise. the only way to stop it is to turn all sound off.

Yeah i think this is what its going to come down to. I thought it was worth asking first incase someone knew how to turn just the sound off.

The reason its becoming a problem is mainly down to TomTom. I havent yet bought an in-car holder as i'm waiting for one with a stereo audio jack, so when i use tomtom i rely on the sound as i cant actually see the screen. Yesterday (and many times before) i needed to use tomtom but i forgot the sound was off. So whilst driving i suddenly realised i didnt know where i was going and i wasnt being told. I'm sure you're aware its not very easy to turn the sound on without looking at the screen so i had to find somewhere to stop during rush hour. Not fun.
I have turned off sent notification but it isn't that thats causing the problem it's because O2 send a network alert telling you your credit everytime you've used some of it.
Thanks for all the responses. I think i'm going to give O2 a ring and ask them to turn it off. If anyone knows how to turn just the sound off though it would be really useful.

well, if its just a problem of you accidentally starting tomtom with no sound.....then i suggest you use tomtom starter
http://www.klaes.nl/
it will automatically change you volume to the max when you start tomtom

Hmmm that looks very interesting. Thanks i'll give it a go.

my phone is lighting up by itself... why?

my phone seems to just pick up random reception while sitting idle on my desk. the phone screen just lights up for no reason and the signal tweaks my computer speakers and makes them make a weird crackling noise. does anyone know how i can remedy this on my AT&T Tilt? help please because it's annoying. it keeps looking like i'm getting a call so i look and then there's nothing. so on a few occasions when my ringer is off and my phone lights up i've ignored calls because this is just irritating. PLEASE HELP! thanks in advance...
The buzzing in the speakers is common to all GSM phones. Some do it more than others (my friends without smartphones seem to be surprised by the sound). I've gotten used to the sound and gotten to the point that I can tell the difference between stray sounds and when a call is coming in.
I'm not sure if I understood your post correctly, but if the screen and keyboard are lighting up at random times - not just when a call is coming in or there's an alarm or you turn it on - then you have something odd going on.
Are you using Xpress Mail? It wakes up the phone when there is an incoming push message. If you turn off push, it doesn't do this.
my phone is lighting up by itself... why?
maybe it fancies a smoke?
lol couldnt resist...
right are you sure any of the email accounts arent set to automatic polling for say every 2 hours, 1 day etc?
^^^^ haha very funny lol well anyways, i don't have push set up nor do i have any alarms set up. i really don't know what the hell is going on. sometimes it even messes with my computer speakers as if there is a call or text coming in... i don't know what in the hell is going on. it was doing that originally then it stopped after installing a bunch of programs on the phone. then i did some spring cleaning and got rid of things i wasn't using and then this crap started up again... maybe it's aliens lol
^^lol aliens picking up reception on your phone!
but seriously.... my hermes was doing that too a couple days ago, but i havent seen it do it ever since.
i dont even have xpress mail set up, nor do i have it installed. the only thing i can think of is i have a reminder on my calender that shows up on the today screen.... but i doubt that's the problem
anybody figure it out? for future annoyances, tho im glad i havent seen it do that anymore
I think it may be possesed, may need to call in an exorcist
I'm experience that too..I'm suspecting that someonne try to discover bluetooth device in range and this wake-up my device...
Two things I would check
1
Are there any apps running before and;or after the wake-up, in particular Active Sync.
2.
Are you in a band swapping area. If so try (temporarily at least) setting to GSM only.
Also, ensure any apps that use a data connection are not set to poll automatically. eg weather, news etc etc

[Q] Faulty mute toggle?

Hi everyone
Re-posting this from the general section (posted on there by mistake, was still half asleep lol, sorry)
Just got the xperia z yesterday (after my previous lg 4x was stolen... grrr... may the thief get permanent bursting hemorroids...) and I noticed a weird thing.
The mute/vibrate/sound toggle in the notification bar does not seem to work, and the same goes for the one in the popup shown by pressing the power button for a couple seconds.
Details: the mute or vibrate icon appears on the notification bar, but if I check the volumes in settings, they're still all on, and if I receive a call or get a notification or whatever, the phone actually rings despite the supposedly muted state.
All this doesn't happen if I "manually" turn the volume off with the volume buttons or via settings: in that case the vibrate icon appears and the phone actually does not ring.
Has anyone experienced anything similar?
All good here dude. Hope you get it fixed. Have you tried turning phone off and on again? That usualy fixes small.glitches.

Yep, already tried that of course, as well as uninstalling the one widget I have that interacts with volumes, just to be sure it was not some weird conflict (and of course it wasn't)
Not a biggie actually, as I can turn it down manually or by said widget, but I hope I'll figure it out anyway if only for the sake of understanding the source of the issue
Yep I understand that. Annoys me when I cant get something working lile its ment to.

I have a problem with the toggle in the notification bar and the power off menu. System settings show me notifications and ringtones are off, but the phone still has audible, unmuted notification sounds. Really annoying.

Actually, I could try a factory reset just to be sure, but I admit I'm kind of too lazy to set my stuff up again from scratch only to try and fix that small glitch

Heard about it, but haven't read the whole thing yet (yep, still being lazy)
Jokes apart, I was planning to leave it 100% stock for at least a little while to see how the battery behaves without even the slightest piece of modding (got the phone only last friday, today has been the first real "field test" for the battery and so far I'm pretty positively impressed)
Well I have already removes/frozen a bucketload of apps happy bunny, I am. Now I only need to figure out which app does what so I don't kill something and make my phone less usable.

lol I removed a few apps too, but luckily for me they were uninstallable without root or anything.
I also disabled a few more through the stock apps management, for the time being it's sufficient for my taste
Same irritating automatic toggling action going on

Yes, having the same problem as well with mine. But it has been the same problem since I had ICS on my Xperia Arc S, then Xperia V and now this when I use the toggle in the notification bar or any other toggle aside from toggling it manually via setting. Very irritating since it has never and probably will never be fixed due to the fact that it's a cross-model issue. Chances are, those who say they don't have this problem already has it but don't know it yet or will get it eventually. Sony needs to iron this out once and for all

Annoying 4 note notification sound

The sound is 4 progressively higher notes on a xylophone-like wooden or bamboo instrument. Usually plays on unlock, but also randomly throughout the day and night. My default notification sound is silence, so this might be tied to an app or the OS (MM 6.1). I just don't know what it is - other than loud and inconvenient. Any Ideas? This is driving me crazy and waking my wife at night. Thanks.
its an app, 100000%. now your job is to find out which one.
Hi and thanks for the confirmation Simms22. :good: I know. Kinda obvious.
I have gone through settings and turned off most radios thinking it could be tied to an app through BT, GPS, NFC, etc.; a successful connection or location fix. I have also gone through the various apps and checked their notification sound settings too. No dice. Whats worse is that I have gone through all my ringtones and notification sounds and can't find it.
It seems to be tied to the Google Now cards notifications, but if it is, I can't find it. I don't really want to turn those off but I guess that's next. Grrrr.

id still be guessing, but google doesnt have a xylophone-like wooden or bamboo instrument sound on the nexus 6, so i know its not a default sound.
Thanks for the info. Hope I described the sound well enough. I'm mostly deaf in one ear and can't hear out of the other. Misspent youth and all that.
I know the notifications and ringtones I've added. That leaves apps that have brought their own sounds with their install. So it's back to the haystack.
I think I'll let it percolate in the sub-conscience for a while. Besides, I'm way behind on a personal Tasker project. Thanks again. I'll update later with what I find out.

you can enable safe mode. that way you can check if its an app. long press the power button until you get the power off option. then long press on the power off until the safe mode option pops up. if that notification doesn't go off, then its an app. as on safe mode, all apps are disabled.
Flash another ROM. This happened to me on PureNex and when I switched to Chroma it went away.
Sometimes it actually happens once in a while. I'll hear the annoying "do dieu do doo" sound

I also have this problem. Has anybody found out the cause?
It started a few months ago and I ignored it, but now it is really annoying.
I put my phone into safe mode and it still happens. I assume this means it must be a preloaded app?
I installed a notification history app and nothing is listed when it happens!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Screen lits up, get notification sound, but no message

Hello, as the title says this is what's happening to my phone at the moment. Happens randomly through the day, and I've no idea how to fix it. Has anyone had it happen to them and know a fix for this?
Same thing with mine. Are you at DP4?

I'm not really sure how to check that. Got this phone a couple of days ago, and its 8.1.0.
Developer Preview 4. But it you are not.
Hi, I've talked about this in the general forum. It's the wifi disconnecting for a splitsecond and giving you standard notification behavior. I don't think you can turn off the sound for this without impacting more important sounds, I have looked really hard! ?

Thanks for your work! It's really weird then, cuz my internet works fine everywhere else. I noticed it yesterday as well that I only get the notification sound when wifi is on, but thought some app was doing it.

Question My phone randomly talks something about the time

My phone randomly talks something about the time, I'm not getting what she saying (woman voice).
Talkback option is off, I checked that one.
What is this, this is so annoying and creepy.
This is not the first bug, since I bought this phone.
Anyone can help me?
Something put into clock settings?
I found this similar problem, I have exactly the same:
"A couple days ago I started hearing a womans voice at random times, like I had butt dialed someone, but I could Identify where it was coming from. Then while I was scrolling on my phone I hear something something "time". Finally in the middle of the night when everything else was quiet I hear it clear as a bell. A robotic female voice saying "it is time". No notification. No background apps running. I've done a few things to check those things and can't find anything. It is slightly annoying. But more so, creepy AF. Any help would be appreciated."
It's Big Brother sending you subliminal messages
Don't see what it could be other than a notification related thing...something you already forgot that you enabled. There are SO many settings, I doubt I could bring my phone to the same exact config after a factory default.
Try using the notification history feature to track this ghost down.
This sounds like an accessibility setting turned on to me

Ah, yes. That must be it. Good thinking.
I'm betting that you will find the culprit in Bixby Routines. It's under Advanced features.
your question is your phone talks about time, for that u will have to search on google ..
I tried everything, but couldn't helped. I did a factory reset. I always hate to do that, because It takes to much time to put back everything and set up, but at least it helped.
Thanks to everyone.
