Latest Skyfire Beta - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Not to start vaguely but I'm not very impressed. The interface is subpar; from both the touch standpoint and shortcut. It does seem to be better than IE, though.

please die. why would u feel the need to post this in kaiser? why not GENERAL on the site not kaiser..

A mistake because I'm used to only browsing this forum. Way to overreact, dufus.
Is there a mod who can move it or should I repost?

Now Now Children. Play nice.
You got to try the Skyfire Beta? I've been on the waiting list forever.
Hows it run on your Kaiser?

If you mean specifically performance, I'd say it's quite acceptable so far. I don't have any hard numbers nor have I tried heavy video but it's pretty good in that regard. My gripes are mainly with usability. When I start the app (and it is an app you can't tab out of, must exit) it takes about 5-10 seconds to load and then begins in a "Featured" tab you can see from their screenshots. What it should be, in my opinion, is either an actual home page or my bookmark list. I couldn't care less about any of those featured tabs and resent being forced to default there. I can only bookmark a page I'm at right now, I can't edit the URL or add one in manually. I also can't rename bookmarks which means something like CNN becomes "CNN.com - Breaking News, U.S., World, Weather..." on the screen. Sometimes I want to pan the page by touch and it decides to zoom instead. It's not properly responsive to touch, at least not on my Tilt.
I'm uncomfortable with the fact that all my traffic is flowing through a third party's servers. I don't know these people from a hole in the wall and that is a LOT of trust to ask for. Do they really think I'll be checking my bank statement via their server? I'll switch to something like Opera 9.5 (if it ever comes out) because I just can't bring myself to sign into anything important via Skyfire.

actually I have been using it for the past week. To even compare it with IE is rediculous. The interface is clean and uncluttered. It works flawlessly. Literally almost ANY type of content works flawlessly....youtube videos, etc. I even went to Fox and watched their "on-demand" programming right on my Kaiser. I've been very impressed so far and this is only a beta I am using.

I was afraid it might be slow.
Yes that's my concern as well I don't like these Proxy One Like Skyfire. I'm not saying I run around wearing a Foil Hat But I don't like that it Goes from A to B via C. The more hand offs the more vulnerable I feel. Thats also why I ahven't picked a IM program yet. I want to know which are through their servers and which has direct connect.

Im with you on this i have been using it for about a month now with little issues. Only problem i have is we now stay in an edge only area so its a little slow rendering some pages. I use it for surfing but still use IE if im checking my accounts. I think it's works very well. I have used opera's new beta and netfront and even in its current version i like the skyfire better. They are adding new features also according to the email they sent me.

Accessing the forum (and Internet) from Tilt

This is a general question about people's experience with Internet speeds on the device.
I have used several different ROMs, both stock and cooked and fine that Internet browsing is very slow.
I usually am getting either 3G or H coverage with 3-4 bars. If I open up the forum site for instance, it could be a good 2 minutes before the browser is responsive enough for me to type anything in. It's almost like the device is so busy rendering the page that it can't even download.
I don't think this is a speed issue, because when I tether my laptop I generally get pretty good speeds, and that same page will come down on my laptop in 15 seconds.
I know that PIE isn't the best browser, but is it really PIE that is causing such slow browsing? I honestly haven't tried opera yet as it seems to always be in a beta and I have read posts about many issues with that browser as well.
Do other's have such a slow time browsing? It's almost embarrasing when I have to pull my device out to look for something quick and it takes 5-10 minutes to get some info of the web.
Again, I don't think this is radio or ROM specific, since I have more or less the same experience on all... I am wondering if there is something up with the connections in my area, although I find this hard to believe as I don't live out in the boonies.
thx.
Use opera
yes iexplorer is slow..
i use opera and 3G its fast !

I guess it's time I give it a try. There are apparently some new versions floating around from the Diamond? Do these work or should I stick with an older one?
If you could recommend which version I should try for a better experience I would appreciate it. I'll then comment on the differences in speed.
thx
i use the "old" one, but the Diamond one seems to work

I'm trying the newer one. I like the 8.5 version better ( I think that was the one). It was more user friendly.
However, whenever I attempt to open this forum on my device it takes about 3-5 minutes just to get into the Kaiser section.
I typically only use my internet browser for information that can be found in any daily newspaper, which only takes a minute or two during each session to find.

I think there might be some type of script on the (forum) page that slows it down. Once or twice after about 2-3 minutes of waitintg PIE popped something up that said a script was taking longer than expected.
What is so bad is that it locks the whole browser not letting you click "stop" and just browse what has already bee downloaded (which is usually enough). When it does stop, it usually takes you back to last page to start all over again .
I guess I shouldn't be so surpried to think that PIE is crud.... although not all pages are horrible...google and google news and wikipedia aren't too horribly slow.
Bengalih Gsleon3 posted the opera 781 diamond build. In there you will find the 1004 build in pages 3 or 4. I recommend you use opera too, either one will do good, im currently browsing and posting this comment from opera 9.5.
yeah, i have that problem with Pie too, hence why i found my new default browser, opera 9.5.

i am typing this now on 9.5 on a slower Edge connection and it is much faster.
however it does seem a little hard to navigate especially without the stylus.
am i corect in assuming you can't interact (click) on the scren when it is zoomed out? that you must first zoom in?
also i miss the URL dropdown like on PIE are there aditional shotcuts so you don't need to go back into the settings menu each time?
thx

Skyfire Beta 2

So... I signed up for the Beta2 of Skyfire at least 4 or 5 months ago and five minutes ago I got a link with my copy of it. I registered my account and installed the cab to discover an awesome full-fledged browser. Has anyone else received the text message for their copy? When starting up Skyfire it says version 0.61.0.4721. Is this Beta 2? Is the version other people have?
-Xidium
thats the one, pretty slick huh
Mine always says that it cannot find the internet. Any inkling as to what it may be going on? I have it downloaded twice so far.
I got mine a couple of days ago, and I really like it.

Curious, did you follow the instructions from the original thread below or from one of the many duplicate threads that made the .cab itself available?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=414383&highlight=skyfire
I ask because the .cab by itself was never intended to work alone as it needs to be registered via phone # and personal info, which acts as your login to use the program. There may be hacks out there(?), but I am not inclined to do legwork to find them, if they do exist that is.
I finally got my text last night.
Downloaded it immediately and love it.
Then, late last night and early this morning, network issues.
Now, it works like a champ again.
maybe there was a problem with the proprietary skyfire servers or something.

I went through all the steps described in your url, used the original cnet100 code and when that did not work I used a bGenius code from another site, I had the cab downloaded both ties, activated, program installed, and then nothing. It cannot find the internet. I have IE, Opera 8.5 and Oopera mini all working very well, no problem with my net connections.
I had the same issue a while back. In my case I disabled the ATT Proxy for the MEdia Net connection and then all worked fine.

many thanks!
Just downloaded it and have putzing around with it.
things i like: renders pages much like my desktops. Loads pages fairly quickly. Relatively small memory footprint
Things I'm iffy on: chunky scrolling (as opposed to NetFront or Iris), text entry into a separate text box seems redundant to me...and probably some other stuff.
This is running on a stock ATT rom, minus the bloatware. It seems fairly stable.
When on my wifi connection, its quite nice.
Yea I was about to ask about the "chunky scrolling". I've noticed that too. Opera 9.5 isn't like that at all. I was wondering if it was the software or if the new kaiser d3d beta drivers or the omnia drivers helped this at all... I haven't had any of the connection issues that others have had and I do like the small 1.5mb or so space it takes to install compared to ~8mb for Opera.
why am i not getting text messages from skyfire.
i have a valid beta code.
I just downloaded mine, but I haven't had time to play with it yet.
Hmmm I havent gotten any links to download it...... It tells me I have to wait until the beta is released for beta testing? hmmmmm I wonder what I did wrong
I got my text for Beta 2 also. It's definitely much better than Opera and IE, but still no where near the iPhone's Safari browser. I switch between my iPhone and Tilt every couple days and when it comes to browsing Safari is pretty damn good. Skyfire is definitely a step in the right direction.
I've been using this for a week now and have noticed a few things.
1. random freezing. While either loading or on a page, my version will just hang and the Tilt will not respond to anything but a reboot...which, in my case, sucks due to that infernal GoodLink lock app.
2 since this is server based, sometimes I get REALLLY sluggish performance. When rendering a simple text based page (say...like craigslist) the screen redraws are horribly slow and scrolling thru a page brings up the checkerboard pattern until it gets the screen redraw info.
3 my settings for some reason or other...do not stick. For example, I will have smart fit enabled in my default view settings. When I load a page the text does not flow correctly, and I have to enable smart fit again.
4 Load up times: horribly inconsistant. Somedays its quick and zippy and blows other browsers out of the water. Other times...it just wont launch.
Having said that: I realize that this is a beta and is bound to be far from perfect. But while the concept is great, the execution leaves a bit to be desired, especially the network connectivity issues for me.
I also have NetFront (LOVE IT) and the Iris browsers as well as the stock OEM Internet Explorer. I want to like Skyfire, but its just too damn iffy right now, whereas my NetFront and Iris are pretty decent.
This is on a stock Win6 OEM ROM (minus the bloatware)
Is there a Net Front CAB that we can download?

A Request for Everyone: Iris Browser

Guys and Gals,
I have been testing for the last 48 hours the lovely Iris browser on my Touch HD and I must say this is the best browsing experience I have ever seen for Windows Mobile.
Those who know me know I am extremely anti-Apple but I must say that internet experience on the damned iPhone is fabulous.
Well, Iris is almost there. It features the same rendering engine used in the Safari for the iPhone. You can tell that as soon as you start using it.
The page renders so clearly and it follows your finger so easily that the only thing really missing is the multitouch feature (did anyone say anything about the HD having the hardware for that already?)
I think we all must support it and leave Opera as a second option for now. All these browsers out there seem to be still quite experimental, we'd better stick to the one which - while working - gives us the best possible experience. I vote for Iris.
Chefs: The software is free for non commercial use, please let's embed it to your cooked roms.
Everyone else: Let's give it a go, download the CAB and install and see what I'm talking about.
Download Iris Browser from the developer's web site www.torchmobile.com
Moderators: just occurred to me this post could be better on another sub-forum. Feel free to move. ;-)
BTW: I don't work for them. I used to work for the Carphone Warehouse and I am currently unemployed.
Hi,
interesting !
I have test it, on two site I use a lot :
www.clubic.com
gmail.com
I can say performance sucks, sorry
the page take a lot more time to load comparing to opera, and navigation on page it really slow, nearly unusable !
the text on zoom, doesn't fit automatically the screen for reading, so need to move and move, and it's slow, no really funny.
the rotation doesn't work, you can only stay in portrait,
well it's a beta 3, need more work to make it good, but it's a good start.
I hope for now cooker don't use it as defaut, opera is far from this browser in term of functionality.
see ya
mate, that is so not true.
performance doesn't suck. it's the best i've seen so far.
i think youre being a bit exaggerated when saying about the delay and nearly unusable. i didn't want to mention opera's flaws but the navigation in it is far from being good and the crashing problem is the worst thing since the invention of Internet Explorer.
the reason i went after another browser was that i was sick of resetting my phone when trying to use opera.
the text on zoom won't fit the screen perfectly on opera either. it's very likely to overflow or just appear misplaced as if opera had missed the target when zooming in.
the difference in this point is that iris has got such clearer picture that it's much easier to read even very tiny letters also it moves smoothly with your finger unlike opera all crispy as if it was made on java for an old 256 colour screen Ericsson phone.
i just love the effects: when you open a page on a new tab, it falls like a gate and bumps. when you click on a link (to open a link you have to click on it for a second - this should be faster) it moves like you just punched it and it's so cool the fading effect between pages... just a few nice things.
all good and well, but is there flash support????
ie6 now has flash support, but the browser itself is crappy as hell!!!!! And opera keeps refusing to support flash...... sigh.....

Lots of potential
Hi mate thanks for link to the browser.
I like it... it has alot of potential even though its in beta it is showing alot of promise.
It is nice, reasonably fluid and renders pretty well... although I must say rendering engine does need some tweaking feels a little rocky still.
Transition from page to page is cool as it fades but again FPS seems a little laggy.
the second view when navigating with finger takes a little while to show the page as mini view it seems to load slowly on some some complex pages which shoudn'y really be the case as all it needs to do is load a snapshot of the actual page.
Dont get me wrong this is constructive feedback - I like it alot.
Some small UI tweaks, speed improvements, fix the secondary navigation snapshot so its instant rather loading like googlemaps then add Flash support and i think it could well be a contender (even winner) against Opera etc.

totally agree!
i think the more users it has now the best it will be in the future and this forum is a great place to start cause everyone here seems to help a lot when it comes to tweaking apps, making them more popular. I really think Iris is the one, not just yet, but it's got what it takes, just need a little bit of improvement.
anyway, i found it better do disable the page overview thing. have used that on netfront before and found it to make the browsing experience a bit confusing. wouldn't know where to look at to find what i was after...
have you seen how it displays your bookmarks? it is in a cover flow style. not with the full cover flow experience but still easier to find what you looking for than just a list of sites.
Seems like a nice competition for ie6 but for me I like opera far better than this one, I know this is beta, but this had nothing to show for me.
It failed to draw few sites properly that I tried, used desktop mode and I setup it like it should be. First thing I dislike is that it puts itself into Startmenu without notice, second is that it is like IE6 or skyfire so that you have to press few places to write address into a small area, third is that it loaded page very slowly when compared to opera.
Loads stuff in wrong order or something, pictures before css and html.
Might be better later when more work has been done for it.
Kinda like skyfire this was, good but nothing special to show.
edit: one good thing though, mouse cursor. Seen it before so not new.
all in all not bad but not as good as opera for rendering graphics. Here are 2 screenshots of it rendering my website (www.swampthing.net) As you can see the logo for my site has a trnasparant background which renders correctly on opera (to the right) and incorrectly on Iris (to the left) The screen navigation is better than opera in my opinion but I would rather things look right then scroll faster I will keep my eye on this one though. Shows promise

that's exact my point when it comes to iris, these guys managed to put on the first version some things opera took nine versions to never get. yes, iris is not flawless but it is very, very promising. by the final version it will be damn good.

the reason i avoid talking about skyfire is cause it's a browser which relies on their service to exist. if, in a very unlikely circumstance that they shut down you'll have a piece of completely useless software on your PDA. not mentioning it's not an original idea, microsoft tried that before with the now buried DeepFish (R.I.P.)

LOL man, Opera does exactly the same. Both Opera and Skyfire pre-render websites through their proxies, the difference being that Opera is text-based and Skyfire is image-based.
That's why Opera loads slower and scrolls quickes (loads the whole text part of the website at once), while Skyfire loads quicker and scrolls slower (loads only the visible part as compressed image, google maps style).
Skyfire totally rocks because:
- is has full embedded video support out of the box
- desktop-like compatibility (online banking etc.)
- saves your bookmarks under your account so you never lose them
- file download
- feeds support
- customisable home page
They just released the latest beta 0.9.
HTC Touch HD unfortunately wont be able to enable Multitouch. It uses pressure to locate the point where you push. The iPhone or the Samsung F480 uses CMOS Sensors under the display and those work with the change in Resistance when you put your finger on the Screen! Thats why an iPhone doesnt work with a stylus! It works only with parts of a human body or anything that changes Resistance when made contact on the screen.
The Touchpad of a Laptop works with the same technology used in the iPhone!

Close, the iPhone and touchpads measure capacitance, and in fact it is the Touch HD that works with resistance.

PointUi home2 is out (vga)

http://www.pointui.com/products/home-2
Installed it on my Fuze, and Im not too impressed with it yet. Still looks like it needs alot of work.
OK, I managed to download this real quick and get it installed. So far I have suffered from 2 random freezes!
After playing around with it and knowing that this is the free version, I find it to be very limited.
It is perhaps overly simple, but to be honest it seems to work pretty well on my device, after a restart of course.
Its simple, but I dont really need a world map to show me where I am, taking half of my home screen up Weathers only 2 days and gives useless info like the temp only. Its not finger friendly and requires a stylus to get around. The UI button brings you to a useless screen that just has all links that fire up the web browser and point back to point ui web pages. Google news scrolling across the screen is annoying not to mention if you hit it by mistake you have to close opera then. After 20 minutes of playing around its time to uninstall and go back to touchflo. Maybe after its matured I will give it a second chance try.
I like it very much! VERY SNAPPY, no freezes. I wish it had more customization capabilities, but I will take it. Weather is limited to some strange cities, you would think atleast all US capitals would be available.
Overal, I like it better than SPB, and TF3D atm.
---------------------
EDIT
BTW, don't miss out on some cool features, below weather and google thingy, there are a few buttons that let you choose to play a slideshow, view sms and other things. They really need to make them more obvious, or maybe its just my wallpaper.

Well in the interest of fairness, the world tab is only open if you want it to be. Otherwise you can have weather, clock & calendar all available. Personally i barely noticed the google news scrolling, and last but not least, i found it VERY easy to navigate with my fingers. That being said, i'm not giving up on TF3D for it, but overall i was very impressed with how smooth it is.

I like it very much! VERY SNAPPY, no freezes. I wish it had more customization capabilities, but I will take it. Weather is limited to some strange cities, you would think atleast all US capitals would be available.
Overal, I like it better than SPB, and TF3D atm.

You can add cities by editing the xml, check out the thread in the dev & hacking forum.
In fact, let's just move all discussion over to there:

Might be late but did big up date today

And as I see nothing changed in this update, no clue what is in it, but every thing looks the same, same crap i mean. Back to HD2 till HTC comes out with a better interface.
Good luck to the rest.

Umm, HTC does not have any say in creating the WP7 interface. If you didn't like the interface, then why buy the phone? Plenty of us on this forum love the metro ui.

Cause you can only play and see what a phone has so much in the store, it takes time to really tell if you like a phone or not.
After using HTC sense on the HD2, I assumed that HTC would have a similar interface on this good hardware.
Dont get me wrong, the hard ware is nice, the typing is much better then HD2, but the OS by its self is terrible, just like HD2 original OS, but HTC sense on top of that interface makes it better.
But the OS by its self now, even compared to the HD2, is missing a lot of must have things, settings and features which every phone in today's market, hell any phone in the past ten years market should have.
I kept hearing about amazing updates, but each one is disappointing.

Maybe do some research? If you even bothered to google what WP7 is, you would realize that manufacturers have no say it the software and that it still a new OS.
Don't blame HTC or Microsoft, blame yourself for not taking 5 minutes to research anything about WP7.

You guys crack me up, I did research it, but you really dont get a feel for an OS till you use it, you can watch all the videos you want, until you get it and use it and set it up for what you need and use, you dont get a feel for it.
The tiles I have no problem with, its what you cannot do with the tiles and other settings that bothers me, things not discussed by any one until the phone came out and used by many, I have been following this forum since the day the phone launched, and it slowly turned from "omg we love it " to "wtf is this? problem problem problem.
1. Tethering, yeah I know all the lovers will say "its the cell providers who are against it" wrong, if they were HD2 would not have the feature via third party app, LG has it in all of its new phones, Nokia has had it in every phone it has put out for the past 4 years. The cell providers would prefer you have it since it will increase your data usage, especially ones who dont offer unlimited data plans.
2. Select all - Enough said there, hell windows 3.1 had select all, 2010 OS does not? the predecessor did , why does this one not? Why do you need this feature one would ask? well for the rest of us who use the phone for what it can do and not just spend hours checking on our friends via facebook, when u use email heavily as I do and sms, select all is a beautiful and necessary feature. Again, its a feature that every phone out should have hands down, no questions.
3. Custom Profiles - why? again, old invention that is very very very handy. just make sense.
4. Program view - I thought something was off when i saw how it lists all the programs you have installed, until I disabled HTC sense on HD2 and saw that the original WM6.5 does the same idiotic crap.
I believe in the BC era man figured out that you can display data, much more efficiently when you use columns and rows. Then why the hell does a OS released in 2010 list all of it in one long ass list? Oh yeah thats right, its brand new, give it 5 years to develop, no, not a good answer, again a feature that every phone today should have.
5. Tile Colors - yes i know some one made a program that lets you change them, but do we really have to do all that to have a feature that lets us choose colors we want? hell look at the pre set colors we have, its what my 12 year old niece likes. I was using the phone with the default blue in a public place a girl saw the colors and looked at me like i swing the other way.
6. Now lets get into more advance things -
A. To make a call, you first have to go to home page then hit the
phone area of the tiles then type in a number, man if you in life and
death situation, your done. There should ways be a button to
access the one main feature ( make calls) from any were.
A.1 - Most of us hold the phone toward the bottom, but the
answer and hang up button is toward the top of the
screen? last I checked, over long thumbs are not invented
yet.
B. When viewing your contacts, no alphabet slider on the side, hell my
6 year old nokia had that feature, again predecessor HD2 (thanks to
HTC sense) had it, this one, first you have to scroll to nearest letter
then push it, then select another letter you want to jump to. Why
the extra steps?
C. Email - if face book and gmail is all you got, great, what about
business ppl who have several email addresses? In order for me to
track my 4 addresses, I have 4 tiles dedicated on my home screen.
combine that with contacts and phone, and my screen is full, I
have to scroll more on my home page to find the tile i need then
any were else on phone. ( HD 2, had displayed 14 things for you
on home page) this phone max 6 and you have to scroll. So say
I am looking at one email address and need to switch to anther,
on HD2 simple they were all available right there on the preview
page. On HD7, back to home page we go.
Is that what they call efficiency these days? they keep touting this phone to be easy to use, get what you need faster and move on in their nifty commercials.
I counted, it takes more pushes and steps to achieve what you need on HD7 then HD2.
So yes it has the amazing live tiles, but are they really? when I have emails my HD2 tells me that I have email on home page, SMS? same thing, missed call? same thing, reminder? same thing, so what is the advantage to the live tile?
besides their lack of color options and re size ability? Thats right, when your bff takes a dump and updates his facebook profile that he is amazed at the shape it came out in, you will be the first to know.
If some one would of wrote this kind of a review, clearly stating the pros and cons, I would of never touched this OS, but they didn't, you know why the didnt? cause Microsoft paid very well to make sure the reviews and info was positive, they got a xmas phone to sell. And that they did. (those of you who will say that is crap, Microsoft would not do that, trust me they do, im in a very similar industry)
But i know, you guys are going to flame me, call me a idiot, a hater, and that its a new OS bla bla, the Iphone was bad to when it first came out.
yeah that was 5 years ago, you dont start over, you take it up a notch, and that is not what Microsoft did. Why you guys think they are partnering up with Nokia? cause WM7 flopped.
Let the flaming begin

Didnt care too much to read your long response, because as the other said, research would have stopped you from buying this phone. If you knew what the OS was about, you would have stuck with the HD2.
Anyway, isn't it Nokia who are flopping with Symbian and wanting WP7 to up their phone sales?
I agree to the most of the missing features in WP7 he wrote about.
The wm users are spoiled, they could give their smartphone an individual style and they could customize their apps and design. WP7 is boring in this way. But i flashed my HD2 back to wm 6.5.x, and after one day i felt, that i went back to yesterday. The control of WP7 is modern and in many ways more efficient.
After this desicion i bought a native WP7-Phone, the HD7, and hope for future ways to individualize it. At 1st the start screen... i hope for a chance, to make it more elegant and have a wallpaper background. Then i hope for smart dialing (native, not with a program) and for an email hub with all my accounts. Also i hope, i can create indidual hubs for system, internet, comm apps and so on, so that the start menu is not five miles long and more properly. I hope, to have a chance for a music player, which can open and play my folders...like mortplayer before, and a video player with mpeg and avi support. Also a way, to get advanced memory by using sd cards.
The best way for MS would be, to give back the features of wm 6.5 in a new and modern smartphone with more abilities. Because they made smartphones long, before Aplle and Google woke up. They used the experience of microsoft and give these phones a modern staff and electronic. Why didn´t use MS it´s own experiences and why must they go a seperate way with an unready OS?
So we have to wait, for MS, Chevron and many other creators. Maybe in two years we look much more lucky...or WP is at it´s end.

Tethering on the HD7 is indeed restricted by T-Mobile. Other WP7 handsets on other carriers can tether.

While not a real ctrl+a or select all, the latest update allows you to select as much text as you want by tapping a word, and adjusting the slider. Effective for massive amounts of text? No, but how often do you need to select massive amounts of text on a phone? This method, in my opinion, works fine for a paragraph or two.

Expect in WP7 the program screen flies in either direction, getting you to what you want fast. Mango will also add the ability to jump to a given letter, like contacts.

As a right-handed person, I hold the phone in my left hand. My thumb easily taps the end call button, and I did not star in Even Cowgirls Sing the Blues.

I can say with all honesty, that the 20 people I migrated from HD2's to HD7's couldn't be happier. Literally. My mobile support calls dropped to ZERO. No

It also tells you all of this on the lockscreen. Tap your power button, glance at the screen, turn it back off. Also, all these things you mention are on your home page, just like your HD2. Not sure what the issue here is.

You should read Engadget.
If you don't like it, that's fine. However, just about everything you mention here is personal preference, not missing or lacking features.
And here are the changes the updates bring, for the curious...
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/howto/wp7/basics/update-history.aspx
HTC sense slows down the device.... i never liked it i was using it on my TP2 and i gave it up as it craped up my TP2, used the energy titanium roms only...
i want to see what you will complain about afte MANGO is out....
some things will not be there on WP7 and the rest of them and more will follow with MANGO update...
Nokia will show there first WP7 device soon.
HTC sense will never be on WP7 devices...
Although I agree to lot of stuff being discussed here (good or bad) Mobiles now a days a more of a personal choice
I went and got the HD7 just to feel how WP7 was as I had never used a WM before having come from nokia symbian and android, I found it interestingly different.
for me the email is the best part of the OS and browsing is a joy on the HD7, but I am definitely looking forward to a NOKIA WP7 as I am sure two heads will be better than one
