simple text message tone question - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

when your getting a call you can press the scroll button and the sound will stop...is there anyway to do this for when you get a text message? thanks in advance

Hi,
I posted a similar question a few months ago relating to this on my XDA IIi, Orbit & Vario as I like to have lengthy MP3's as my incoming text ringtones but sadly nobody gave me an answer...
I did get round it by installing PhoneAlarm & when a text comes through you can either press the incoming text icon which will make the tone stop & take you to the text message or press the mute icon which will obviously make the tone stop...
Cheers

why are you using a full song if you won't want to play it. How about chopping the head off the song and using it?

Probably the same reason I do - when I'm at home, I leave the phone wherever. Can't hear a short message tone from across the house!

Would be more convenient to take ur phone with u. I leave the phone around me, not neccessarily in my pocket but on a table or a bed or a sofa near by.

Lack of true in-built profile control is one of the remaining, glaring issues of WinMob.
That's why the first thing I install on every new phone - and the first thing after any hard reset is phoneAlarm.

Hi,
I am not using a full MP3 as a tone, I pick my fav MP3 tracks then cut out about 30-40 seconds of the part I want to use as my tone, then If I am in the house but not near my phone I can hear when a call or text arrives, but if I am out with my phone on me I can then cut the incoming tone as I mentioned with PhoneAlarm, I am happy with this set up, the standard tones that come with the phone usually only last for about 3-5 seconds...

True Silent Ringtone

I was looking for a true silent ringtone that I could add to certain contacts that I still wanted to know were calling but didn't want to hear. So I thought I could easily search for a "silent" ringtone. Sounded easy enough.
I saw several posts, here and on other forums, where people were looking for a silent ringtone, but the only ones I could find were the ringtone that "only kids could hear, not adults". You know the one where it is at such a high frequency that "anyone over 30ish". Well, what I was looking for was a truly silent ringtone. So I downloaded Audacity and decided to create one for myself.
I created a 30 second silent mp3 ringtone (in stereo, ). Now, I can add that custom ringtone to any contacts that I want. Since I had seen many requests for something like this on here and while googling, I decided to share with all.
And since I know how most people dislike RapidShare, I have attached the file to this post. Maybe others will find this as useful as I have.
Enjoy.

Very good, good solution.
tnx m8..
No problem, glad I could help.
I just found it weird that I was unable to find where anyone had done this before. I'm sure it has been but I just couldn't find any silent ringtones to download.
Great idea jwbrint!
I have recorded silence in the past on old phones BUT it always makes SOME noise.
Will download this now - GREAT
This is a great forum. I just found it. I am retired (old) so bear with me if I am a little slow on some things. I just got a Samsung M520 with Sprint and I want to setup a genuine silent ringer. I downloaded the attached silent ringer from this thread but the format has to be changed to something I have never heard of. I will paste in a copy of a post that describes the way the ringer has to be saved/formatted.
Would any of you younger more tech savy users be willing to convert this ringer to the proper format and attach it here for me? I am going to copy it to my SD card and then move it to the Samsung so that I can assign it. On this Samsung the ringer needs to appear as a video and then the phone will allow assigning and moving it. I know it works that way because I created a "video ringer" using my camcorder feature and this phone will allow ringers if they are "cloaked" as video. Go figure!
Paste:
Change the profile at the bottom of your program window to 3GPP2 - 3rd Generation Partnership Project (*.3g2). Change the "Destination" textbox to the place where you want your ringtone to save to. If you wish to save the property settings and destination, you can click on "Save As..." to save the profile. Now press the "encode" button. Once it finishes, goto your destination and find the file you just converted. Make sure your file is under 512kb. If it is not, lower the duration, bit rate, or sample rate. You're almost finished.
Now you'll need to transfer the converted file onto your phone memory using one of the three ways mentioned in the beginning. It MUST be in the following folder: \DCIM\100SSMED\. Look familiar? It's the same place where you store all of your pictures and videos.
End of paste.
My computer is old -- 500 meghz with 200 meg of Ram so some of this video stuff is beyond its capabilities. I am on XP. I don't know of a software for doing these conversions that runs well on under 150 meg of Ram. Open to suggestions.
Sorry to beg but if you can attach this here I'ld be appreciative. The file size has to be under 500 K so feel free to shorten the ringer time if you need to. Thanks in advance.
I am going to reading around here alot for the next couple of days. This place is cool.
it's interesting how 30 seconds of nothing can be almost half a meg!!!

320k silence .
Hello Fellas, I happen to come across this thread. Okay, help me with this. A silent ringtone? Are you trying to avoid a call? I mean do you set a ringtone for everyone else? Not trying to make fun just trying to understand the rational.
It comes in handy if you have a particular person (or persons) who call you on a regular basis, but your phone cannot ring... like when you're in a meeting.
it also helps if you want to have an sms notification but not a phone call notification
Thanks!
Great help for wrong numbers.
I get calls from an old lady who cant figure out how to reprogram her speed dail.
thanks!~!******
Thanks
I just downloaded the silence...ahhh...and applied it to a friend who calls WAY too much each day. Now if I could just stop this person from leaving me 10 messages a day on voice mail, arg!
Thank you so much!! I've been looking for this forever!! It works so well ^^
Thanks for nothing!! LOL
This is a very useful alternative of using commercial programs that can auto silent the blacklisted people, etc.

Some call filtering applications are slow, so that phone still rings once before being silenced. SPB Phone Suite 1.3.1 is like this. If you know of one that does not have this problem, please share
And thanks to OP for the silent ringtone!
thx for sharing
awesome. thanks
The best ringer ever!

LOUD Ring Tones

Anyone know where I can get standard LOUD ring tones for the Tilt?
Also, what folder does it need to be in in order for the sound menu to find it?
If it's just an incoming call ringtone then it can be anywhere I think, just select "Set as ringtone".
If you want a custom text or email tone you have to drop it into the 'windows' folder, then you'll be able to find it in the drop-down menu for sounds and notifications.
In order to make your tones louder, you can download a free piece of software called "Audacity".
I had a few tones that were a bit too quiet, so I gave 'em a boost using Audacity.
I regretted it a bit when I was in the Doctor's waiting room and the "2 girls 1 cup" tune blared out when I received a call!

I use the "Top Cat" theme tune now.
That makes everyone smile, whereas the aforementioned tone only got the occasional "knowing" smirk from internet weirdos.

So there is something in this world that can gross you out... Personally the repair rech for my equipment at work told me to look that video up about 5 or 6 months ago and I felt for sure I was going to throw up.

OK guys... just settle down.... Here is a QUICK way to increase the volume of any ring tone you want:
1. Connect your phone to ActiveSync with your PC. In ActiveSync, click on Tools/ Explore Pocket PC, Click on My Windows Mobile device/ Click on Windows, and locate all the Wav files including your ring tones. Copy them into a new folder on your DeskTop.
2. On your DeskTop, click on Start/ All programs / Accessories / entertainment / Sound recorder.
3. In sound recorder, click on file and open and select to open the folder you saved those wav files in, then select a desired wav file.
4. Click on effects, then increase the volume (25%). Save the new NOW LOUDER wav file into the folder created earlier. Chose a new name.
5. You can repeat No. 4 above and each time you do it the volume will increase by 25%.
6. when done copy the newly created (LOUDER) wav files into Windows on your device using the activeSync window.
Good luck...
Or you could download GoldWave, a free audio editing suite.
I use adobe audition to edit my mp3's to create ringtones, as well as amplifying them. GoldWave does this too but is far more basic (when i say basic theres still a hell of alot it can do, just not as intuative as audition, but then thats not free is it!)
http://makeownringtone.com with default settings produces ringtones with good loudness.
Sparrowhawk; any chance of you posting the Top Cat wav file? Thanks!

Ok, I think I got two questions out of that test. J/K
1. Edit: Sorry about that. I didn't read properly.
2. To assign notification sounds. Start>Settings>Personal>Sounds&Notifications>Notifications. Open the Event: drop down, find the event, Open the Ring tone: select the sound, turn on Play sound, finished.
Notification sounds reside in the \Windows\ root folder of the device. I like to put ring tones into the \Windows\Rings\ folder. They work in other folders but I find the Rings folder neater than the root for example and thats what the Rings folder is meant for anyway.
Hope that works for you.
U cant assign different ringtones for text messages to contacts. For that u will probably need some 3rd party application.
hey all~
hurm, okay well if i can't then does anyone know of any 3rd party app that can do it? i know pcm can NOT do it for text's (but they can for calls) . . .
thanks for the help guys and gals
~j
try mortring. you can personalize rings for calls and sms according to individual or category.
although it's been slightly buggy since i upgraded to 6.1, it still does the job well enough.
somynex~
thanks ill google it right now
~j
Try photo contacts. You can assign text tones to individuals on it
hey all~
so igrabed mortringand installedit buthad no luck with it working :-( so i guess ill look into that other suggested program....
like i said it's not a big deal, just something i would likes (it shouldn't surprise anyone as my screen name should imply i'm a linux guy [ubuntu is a linux distro.] and i love everythiing tweaked as much as possible lol)
~j
sorry to hear that mortring didn't work. in WM6 and before it seems to intercept the call and then change the ring.
But in WM6.1 it seems to have to change the ringtone for each contact/category according to the ring i set it to, which can take a long time. the first time after i set the rings, thought my phone froze up. but actually it was just taking its time setting the rings for each contact (and takes a long time when one has a lot of contacts/categories).
anyway after the first couple days of freezes, it seems to work fine now and hasn't froze up on me since.
somynex~
maybe i'll give it another go then....i tried with my brothers contact info. changed his txt tone then had him txt me....maybe i needed to let it sit for longer to 'finish the change' . . .
thanks for the extra info

No problem mate.
Here's a post of mine from almost 4 years ago that you can use with Mortring (free) to make custom notifications for your contacts.
Okay I figured out how to create a custom notification/ringer.
1: go to http://public.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php
And type in what you'd like for the notification or ring to say and then
download it after picking a voice. (keep in mind sometimes you have to purposely
misspell certain word to get them to be pronounced correctly. For example for DJ
I had to spell it as d j).
2: rename that file you downloaded into something you'd like.
3: move that .wav file to your devices /windows directory.
4: go to start - settings - sounds & notifications - notifications (select the
event you'd like to change the ring for and select the respectable audio file).
If using Mortring in step 4 assign that .wav for your contact(s).
dj~
wow thanks, from 4 years ago...kewl that u looked it up fo rme i appreciate it and will be off to create
~j
Of course.. then there's always Electricpocket Ringo. It lets u assign ringtones and sms tones individually, or to groups. The best I've used so far.

Free? I tried Ringo over a year ago and it slowed down my phone a lot.
hey all~
i got mortRing working! seems pretty good, works for sure. one thing though...it seems that everytime i get a text from someone whos got a personalized tone, that wmp opens to try to play the wav file (and go figure, wav=windows audio video...wmp says it can't play wavs lol)
i think i may have fixedn it with a registry tweak, have to wait till someone with a custom tone texts me back lol
~j
hey all~
ok so this question is probably for those who have or have used mortRing....everytime a custom notification comes my media player opens :s
i went in the registry and undid the default wmp handling of wav files (as the ringtones...err text tones lol that mortRing recognizes are wav's) but then it opened a dialouge saying it didn't know how to handle the wav file (nvm it played lol) ii changed the default to mort player but it still opens whenever one of the custom contacts text me....at least mort closes quicker then wmp...but still would be nice to get it to stop...
so any ideas? a registry hack (i'm comforatable doing that, even though im a linux guy i work on peoples win-slows computers....a LOT) anything?
thanks
~j
I have an older version of Mortring that doesn't have that problem.
DJ~
do you happen to know what version number you have? thanks
