Few days ago I installed Fringe on my phone and since then I've experienced terrible battery life, phone is hardly surviving 24h (being on GSM only, with very little to nothing WIFI and few 1-5 min a day calls!). Oh, and I must say that the fringe was not running at that time at all! Only few minutes!
Apart from that with same usage phone could survive 3-4 days.
I uninstalled Fring and phone behaves much more nicely.
Did anyone had the same experience like me?

Well, after I've experienced dramatic battery discharge I put my blame on Fring. I did the hardware reset and I read on Modaco that the Windows live services are sucking battery and have memory leaks. I went to registry and I deleted the Windows live instances. Suddenly after restart I have 18,5 MB of free memory and today I've managed to get tough the day with 94% power left which is a miracle.
Sounds very interesting.
a) Can you list more precisely which registry entries had you been deleted?
b) Post your experience with battery life (percents) 2., 3. day with same phone usage.
c) Put here also pls the link to Modaco topic you mentioned.
Thnx
fring = battery drain
I'm not running fring, but I am running other utilities such as facade and I'm experiencing high battery drain, it used about 50% in the space of 5 hours!
Is there a utility available which can tell me exactly how much power I'm using so I can debug it myself?
The link is here:
http://www.modaco.com/content/HTC-Vox-Vox-MoDaCo-com/254628/Removing-Windows-Live-Email/
I'm not sure that I'm now very happy about the battery life beceause I did the hardware reset or because I removed VIndows Live, but for sure I now have 18 MB of free RAM!
What do you lose if you remove Windows Live?
Or more generally, what are all those services, reccomendet to be deleted in WiKi?

Hey, Fring, like other IM apps is a real time communications tool, a constant data stream, so it the same as a phone call, its the same on any device, WM, Symbian or Blackberry. shame!

i use skpe via fring and the battery drains so fast.
does the software from skype drain the battery less?
Im using fring as well, , My battery drains faster cause I usually go online every time im on a wifi area, more likely to be 3 to 5 times a day, so my battery goes dead on the afternoon, bout 9% left. I usually use Skype, but still waiting for the Yahoo voice service in Fring cause I have all my friends in yahoo, so expecting to use fring, Hope there is a registry tweak to resolve whatever suspected issues we have with fring, cause I prefer this over agile messenger and skype.
This is probably a grey market Diamond, so keep that in mind.
1. SKTool: Works fine so far, I changed the fonts and sizes, looks neat and clean. I also optimized performance, but did not apply manual tweaks. Works better and touchlfo is quicker.
2. Coreplayer: Works but in some media QTV does not
3. SafeInBox: Perfect
4. Resco Explorer: No issues yet
5. WebCamera Plus: Seems to work fine
6. Franson GPSGate: No issues
7: PocketController Pro: Great
8: Quickmenu: Fantastic
9: Garmin XT: Very Good
MEDIA ISSUE occured: The WebCamera Plus and CorePlayer continued plying video on the today screen. It was strange, but that maybe fixed by not allowing background play.
I have hard reset twice now trying to apply the tweaks in this forum. I would avoid them. Sktool optimizes and works great. Touchflo would pause like a second, but still faster. When Shap's and registry tweaks were applied the phone locked up.
I lost the abitlity to turn wifi on once. It would show the wait icon, go through the motion, but would not turn on.?????? Fixed after hard reset.
Installing programs on external memory (the built in 4MB) works fine.
Im having a problem with ActiveSync. I keep getting an error which I cant fix.
Aside the iPhone, I havent taken intrest in my phones like this one. The last one I had was the LG KS20 which is okay. This phone is pretty good, but consumes memory.
Well, Grey market or not, it is a diamond indeed. Tested your apps, had not any issues with CorePlayer, tho. and while using the forum's tweaks neither.
TouchFlo 3D is a pain, tho. It eats the battery so much it's incredible, I can even see my power bar depleting eye naked. TouchFlo 3D off, battery lasts forever.
Mine is an asian unit. registerd okay on HTC asia website. but not on HTC.com e-club.

Does the battery last that (how) much longer with touch 3D off?
Well, average calculations in order, using the device normally. Bluetooth on, wifi off, some calls of 5-10 minutes each and running Windows Media Player;
TouchFlo 3D On: at most, 4-5 hours (even with no calls.)
TouchFlo 3D Off: at most, all day.
Wow. That's a shockingly poor battery life. I've never seen any reviews where it has been that bad...

Hmm your scaring me
I havent tested the battery but there will be an extended battery coming soon (The desktop cradle has a spot for it).
Oh i didnt realise the stand lets you charge a second battery. Thats fine then, i'll just carry two batteries. Without a second battery charger that never works because the second battery never ends up getting charged!

Hi, I just got my diamond 3 days ago and it seems to be having some battery problems, even when on standby it drains very fast, how long should the diamond last on a single charge (on standby, talk time, with wifi, or bluetooth) is there a benchmark to compare with.
the battery is just 900mha, like Nokia N95, so it is a bit underpowered, I suggest you to activate all energy saving tips through the program "Advance Config" and if you don't use/need UMTS & GPRS just fix your phone to don't discover automatically GPRS (always through Advance Config) and to GSM band (setting > phone > band), these reduce battery consumption.
bye,
davide
thanks, I'll try that, but even when not in use, the battery drains 20% to 30% per hr. tried it 3 time, same result, doesn't even reach 4 hrs of standby time
really strange... in any case your battery should go better after some cycles, wait at least 2/3 weeks before care
It's because the battery (like so many other aspects of this phone) sucks.
I got the new extended battery but that's useless too. It comes with a new cover for the phone but the battery itself is just twice as fat, so you end up with a 'sleek' phone that has a hunchback sticking out of it very awkwardly.
yep, I don't like the new battery, it makes a different phone
I have followed most of the battery saving advice that the usual programs can set up for you. I would say my phone, if its *just* standby can go 24 hours with just losing one "pin" on the battery meter. That means no calls, no peeking at the screen, no sms or otherwise communication. Since its hard to do this I have just tried 24 hours. If left on true standby I would say the battery would last for days.
I have a car charger and plug the Diamond into it while driving and in the office it sits in a cradle, at least I do not have to look for it under a pile of documents when it rings. Plus it serves as a fancy clock too!
The battery bar goes rarely below 70% while not plugged in.
3G and WiFi are extremly power hungry so do not expect hours of entertainment while they are on.
Fat battery is a bad road to take, I remember old Axim X51v (also HTC) with a 2.2Ah battery, it was like a brick. It is better to have a couple of small batteries rather than one big one obviously unless you want to play games on a transatlantic flight or go hiking for a long weekend.
One thing to remember is that your runtime grows faster than the battery capacity which is caused by the fact that at a slower rate of discharge the battery has a higher capacity, so if the 1350mAh battery is not too big it may be a worthwhile choice, I would expect the runtime to go up by between 75-100%. I just wonder how much longer will it take to charge and also you can say goodbye to most of the protective cases.

Buy a solar panel for mini usb and glue on the back of the diamond, then you will have infite standby time when left in the sun

I am using the Customised Comms manager and that's made a massive difference, basically 3G, Bluetooth and WiFi are off unless I need to use them.
I charged last night for the first time in 3 days, making calls and playing around in between

want one!!!
i get about 1.5 days outta my battery....
only running on 2g with light sensing on 20 or more sms a day with maybe an hour of phone calls all up.
i'll copy-paste my answer from an another thread:
using yr phone in a place where the reception is not good will drain yr battery faster.
i can add (there is a relation) that the level of radiation that any phone is emitting it is also higher when reception it is not strong enough. i've seen it demonstrated yesterday. entering in yr car double the level of radiation, in an elevator the radiation increases 10 folds! yr phone tries to connect and that's energy consuming and radiation emitting (electromagnetic).
i guess that you bought yr phone not too long ago. i know it sounds strange but after a few cycles yr battery's life is going to improve and i am not the only one to observe it.
don't stop the charging when the battery icon is full. i learned using a wall charger with LED (red for charging, green for charged) that after diamond's icon said 100% the charging continues for at least 30 minutes more (the led was not fully green but was blinking red-green).
from my experience u can use all power management option from shap's advanced configuration without loosing yr connectivity. i can not tell u what those option are but after using all i can tell that diamond's battery life improved.
with only 2G and some e-mailing downloading and checking this forum a few times my battery last for 1.5 days. of course their is also 1-1.5 hours of phone calls.
don't expect yr battery to last if you are using yr diamond as an entertainment center (movies and mp3) or as a battery only powered GPS navigator. i am using my GPS in my car always connected to my car charger.
I'm thinking about buying something like that to solve the problem :

Rom 1.37.707.1
Radio 1.00.25.03
I'm not yet sure what the problem was, but it has something to do with the sim card that I'm using, the sim stop receiving signal and I tried another sim. The battery life improved and now It last more than a day.
thanks,

I am getting about 48 hours (I probably talk less than 30 minutes in that time). Using default x04ht rom on diamond with radio 1.00.25.05 (just flashed to 1.08.25.20 and getting about the same). Charge every day isn't bad, but every 1.5 to 2 days for a device like this; no complaints.
OK,, I am not any kind of expert, I do good just to get me email working on this Tilt. But lately I have had very little battery life out of my Tilt which is now about 60 days old. I charge the phone every morning before I leave, and here it is, 1:30 pm and I have one bar of juice left. And before 5 pm, it will die of battery loss. the screen is not staying on all day, nor any other obvious drain on the battery.
Any one have any ideas??
Still on WM 6.0
Thanks

well check if your email is set to download complete email with attachments or only headers / upto a certain limit. Setting the email to download completely can drain up the battery especially if you have a lot of attachments downloading with it. Also heavy usage of the vibrate function can drain your battery pretty quickly
What radio are you running? I had the same problem until i tried a few different radios and settled on 1.58.25.17 . Make sure you check the ultimate radio thread for which roms support which radios.
Thank you both,,
On the email,, it is set to just download headers,, I have it checking three accounts, I am sure that helps drain it a bit, but seems like it should not be draining in an afternoon, and with little use I might add.
On the radio I am currently using 1.27.14.09. ,, does anyone have a BRIEF laymans description to the radio, is it just the"driver,or program used to run the radio? I am sure though that I can find how to change it in the forums.

Another Great Trick is if you are having it check email. Find KaiserTweak or Schap's AdvancedConfig and Find the Setting to Disconnect 3G connection after 2 minutes.
The Email Connects to your 3G connection and leaves it on all the time. 3G Sucks Battery. Using these tools to have it turn off after 2 minutes allows you to get mail and not loose a lot of battery power.
If you get really stuck then a nice rechargable external battery (like the one from Proporta) is nice to slide in your jacket pocket...
My problem also
Originally purchased my Tilt from New Egg. Special $179 w/$50 rebate from AT&T. Battery life was moderate. I have been a user of Pocket PCs' for a long time before buying a converged device, PDA Phone. Windows Mobile PDA platform uses a lot of battery, period.
When I say battery life moderate, I mean that, I could not get through an entire day with average usage without a recharge.
Recently my phone experienced a failure which required a warranty exchange.
The phone was replaced with a refurb unit from AT&T warranty service. The battery life was horrid. Normal usage for me is. Bluetooth running, two email accounts downloading every hour, weather bug mobile updating 30min and 1hr for various settings, occasional phone calls, web surfing (moderate) email reading, downloading attachments as needed, etc.
The phone replacement (warranty exchange) was experiencing, long charge times, inaccurate battery charge values (68% battery charge, upon reset 89%). Quick discharge (100% upon initiating call using bluetooth, 75% charge after 15 min.).
Returned phone to AT&T warranty service, had battery replaced with new! battery ( I say new because the battery I received with replacement had a dent on the metal part on back)
Fully recharged new battery, made a few calls. O.K.
Set WIFI on. Set GPS on. Set Bluetooth on. Surfed the web. used Resco Explorer to move files from computer to PDA/Phone. After one hour battery level is 91%.
My belief is that HTC ships defective product. I have read multiple threads about users having multiple problems, and users having no problem at all. Hmmm.
Hmm..
Afer two hours 90% battery

That all these tweaks may improve marginally a variably produced product.
The issue is that quality control and product management was lacking at the source. These things are pieces and parts. For the Original Poster.

Hi,
So I know the battery life is not great on the Diamond but normally I get a good days use out of it. Today I'm not sure why but in only 4 hours I'm down to 1/10 bars. The funny thing is the Diamond was really hot and I don't know why, I closed all applications. Anyway I did a soft reset and it seems to be cooling down now, but the battery will be completely dead soon enough. I think one phone call will do it, and I actually haven't even used it for phone calls today, just a few SMS. Any idea what could cause this sudden drain on the battery?
sounds like something was running in the background.
it gets hot when theres load on the cpu.
What applications have you installed and what ROM are you using?
yeah I figured it's probably some process running that I was unaware of, after the reset it's fine. A colleauge here had a mini usb charger so I was able to charge it up.
I'm running Project Diamond WWE, don't remember the exact version but probably the most recent one, I flashed it about 3 weeks ago.
Not too much extra software on there, I've got GSen, S2U2, Advanced Configuration util, and I recently installed Tom Tom v7.
