Hey guys whats up? My phone has been overclocked to 247MHZ with no problems however today I decided to get greedy and tried overclocking at 263 I believe. As soon as I set it the screen went out. Now it gives me some funky colors like a rainbow when I try taking it off standby but if I let it sit a minute or two before using it then the Regular screen comes up for about 3-5 seconds then it goes out again. So there is still hope I can get the phone back without restoring it to factory conditions. Now what I need is if someone could walk me through the process of getting the speed back down to 247MHZ because the phone is still working. I just cannot see so if someone could tell me what to do just by using my directional pad. I've gotten quick enough to get to the programs list and even into the Battery Status program itself but from there the screen dies. Pleas help. Appreciate it guys.
got it.....Thanks

Is there anything I can realistically do to speed up this phone, without resorting to a new firmware for it? I've had it for about 3 days and it's killing me. Nothing is even running, and it's laggy and slow as ****. Even coming back from sleep, unlocking, whatever the same laggy behavior. I have at least 17mb free on the device, and everything else on a 2gb card. I am using the HTC Home Plugin from the touch. Would that degrade the performance this much? Because if so I'm not sure it's even worth keeping and I would have to return it very soon.
Any advice is appreciated.

TRY!
I'ts slowing your device down, but you've to experience it yourself.

Now it's even worse. The phone wouldn't wake, I pulled the battery, it STILL wouldn't wake. Now all the sudden after 20+ minutes and a cold reboot by yanking the battery it comes back up with the keys locked. WTF is with this thing....
Disabled the HTC Home Plugin and it seems to be working a little better. No word on locking and unlocking yet I will try that out, and give a shot to the suggestions in the thread you pointed me to, thanks.
Now with the home screen disabled, the phone still acts weird. When I woke up this morning, I turned it on and it endless seemed to reboot. It would turn on, make the startup sound, go to the windows mobile splash, then shut off. After this happened about 10 times, I made it to the desktop where the phone was locked.
I just don't know what to do with this thing anymore. It doesn't seem very reliable. Any last minute suggestions short of returning it?
All these problems you mentioned have been noted before in the Herald sub-forums. Using google to search this site you will be able to find all the relevant threads to keep you up to date....otherwise if you dont care to research i guess you could always return it for a RazR
Sorry for the bad title
Hi everyone, yes I'm a nood and yes I've read all the posts (I think) or at least I have not come accross my problem, sorry if this is long but I'll try and make it understandable.
I have a captivate 10.11 locked to rogers, Loved the phone, One day being past 40 and not being able to remember my name sometimes, I told my Brother don't let me get in the pool with my phone on, go in the house come outside and sit for a minute then get in the pool ...arrrg! I noticed right away and took the phone off removed the battery, dried the phone best I could. threw it in a bag of rice and left it in the sun for about 2 days. I put the battery back in and yeah!! the phone worked ..... for 1 day no problems. I get up the next morning and I turn it on but I can't slide to unlock??? So I remove the battery, when I put the battery back in, it doesn't go past the I896 Samsung screen no matter how long I leave it?
(This is where the title comes in) I start to read the forums here and figured well I have nothing to loose, I can get my phone to go into download no problem, so I load the odin one click on it "I897UCJF6-final-OCD-REV0" now I'm stuck at the AT&T screen, so I play with all button combinations I have read about, but nothing I do will get me into the recovery menu ?? Low and behold after 3 days of playing I get life, the 3rd day I figured "well I may as well turf this" I turn it on and after a minute I get the little android guy with some yellow text and then it goes back to AT&T then loads the home screen??? I'm thinking woo hoo I get the home screen I'm able to put my sim back in and SD and I'm able to make the phone work. So I'm thinking I'd like to have the Apps that come with Rogers so I think, well I'll load the rogers stock rom. Now I'm stuck again at the I896 screen.
Sorry for being long in the explanation, But I've gotten the odin 1 click to work 2 times and the second time I rooted the phone and loaded the rogers rom through rom manager, I got all working perfect but after 2 days it froze again at the slide to unlock screen??? Remove the battery and again I'm at the boot I896.
Can someone tell me if
1. water damage could have this affect? (the slide to unlock freezes or screen not responding to touch after a couple days) ?
2. can a rom take 3 days before it loads? the odin 1 click always seems to come to life after 3 days of playing with it the rogers rom doesn't? When it's stuck at the boot I896 or AT&T the soft keys seem to work (meaning I run my finger over them and they dim) ??
I'm sorry if I missed a similar post but I've been reading for weeks now ? Any help at all would be appreciated.
Sounds like a classic case of water damage. probably internal moisture
check your stickers on your phone if they are white you can get a replacement no problem, if pink it going to be harder try this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1073929
Ps. your title has nothing to do with the problem at all, it look like a joke. Next use a more appropriate title
As I bought it second hand I won't be able to return it. I'm just wondering if there is not a way to save it, because I can get into download mode everytime I try and it succeeds everytime it flashes ?
Well day 3 after loading the odin 1 click and I am back, I rooted and change the rom using rom manager, all seems to be working fine (I hope ) I will keep you posted if it locks up again ???
All is good after 4 days so I'm hopeing 3 times, a charm thanks to this forum I've saved my Cappy

Ok. Posted a couple months back about having a lot of problems such as GPS being completely not functional. I got a great response with many people claiming that a custom ROM should help with many of my issues. I took the time to research here on XDA and learned a lot. I flashed my phone with Serendipity and it really improved my speed.
HOWEVER, I still experience many issues that make me really want to get away from this phone.
- GPS still is completely broken. AT&T told me the problem is not in their hands, but Samsung's, and that they cannot do honor my warranty if it's a GPS problem.
- About once a day, my phone decides that it can't play any of my audio or video files (internal memory; I have no SD card for my device). It gives me an error about how the media player (I've tried stock and many others) cannot play this file type, even if it's an .mp3. When this happens, YouTube videos also refuse to begin playing, saying there was an error and to tap the screen to retry, although that never works. In addition, when this is happening, I cannot record videos. It says "Recording failed" when I tap the record button. I can take photos however. To fix all of these issues, rebooting the phone temporarily solves it but it will appear again in a matter of hours.
- Sometimes the phone will simply go black and refuse to come back on. I can only sit and wait, as the power button is useless in making the screen light up. 30-45 seconds later, it'll light back up.
- Battery life is awful. My phone will sometimes be almost completely dead in about half a day of moderate use. When I wake up and unplug my phone, the battery immediately goes to 97%. Then it's at 90% by the time I leave my house for class 30 minutes later. I always keep brightness on minimum and all GPS/wi-fi/bluetooth/sync disabled. I use no task killers. I had worse battery life and speed using those.
- Apps often hang and force-close.
- Calls drop very often even in good service areas, such as while sitting in a chair in my home with 3+ bars.
- Often takes several attempts to make a call. I press "call" and it simply hangs for a few seconds and returns me to the home screen.
This phone is really driving me up the wall. I got it in January and have not had much fun with it since. Also note that I am extremely careful with my electronics. This phone has been in a hard shell case since day one and has been dropped VERY few times.
The only thing that Serendipity helped me with (for the most part) is the general speed of my device, which it REALLY beefed up. The phone is still quite fast most of the time, but I just hate constantly dealing with these above issues all the time.
Any input is appreciated. Tips on fixing any of these problems or tips on how to get AT&T to replace my phone with something else.

Best thing you can do is return it to stock and do a master clear (Gets rid of just about everything on the phone). Then go to your local store, tell them all your "problems" that you have been having and they should replace the phone and GPS is their problem, if they refuse then contact Samsung and get them to replace the phone for the faulty GPS.
BTW: be careful if your phone had 2.2 on it, you might want to avoid going to 2.1
I had no problem replacing my phone with at&t. do you have a warranty center near by? got to your local at&t store, and ask them where a warranty center is. Mine is close 10 minutes away.
I drove there, told them my gps is whacked, walked out with new phone plus that phone has at least 90 days on warranty. If you less than 90 days on original warranty, this will extend it up to 90 days.
i just did it again, and have another 90 days on warranty. I was actually past the 90 day warranty by 2 days and they still let me swap it! so after all is said and done, i will have extended my warranty by 6 months! This time I bricked the phone trying to flash something. I told them the phone said I had an update and it failed. I actually did this twice on the same day. I told them the new phone said I had an update too, they bought it. ROFL
Anyways, dont try calling at&t unless you have no warrant center around.
Good luck
Tell At&t you have the random shutdowns issue. Its well documented enough.
Sorry for the delayed response. I appreciate the replies. I do have 2.2 on this phone. Would returning it to stock and doing the master clear revert me to 2.1 or just a fresh install of 2.2? I don't want to do anything to reduce my chances of getting a replacement.
Unfortunately, after checking on the AT&T store locator, there aren't any Warranty Centers within 50 miles.
I supposed I'll just call about it (again), but I hate dealing with phone reps.
Heya all,
So my Galaxy Mini started rebooting itself today.. Anybody knows what to do? I can't give much details only that I thought the problem could be the custom rom (CM7, New Experience). I flashed it back to stock, but it's still doing the same thing, sometimes it'll hold out for 30 minutes but sometimes it restarts and I can't even open Whatsapp before it reboots again.
All I can tell the on/off button for locking isn't always working as fast as it should. Could this button be stuck or something like that?
Also warranty is gone, got water damage from like 1.5 year ago.. Maybe that could still have something to do with it.
Thanks in advance,
Sanderth.
Update: I was just viewing a WhatsApp message and it rebooted itself again, please does somebody have any advice on how to fix this?
Bump: Please does anybody know what the problem could be? Today at school I wasn't even able to send a message via WhatsApp
Edit: I'm pretty sure it always happens a few seconds after I pressed the on/off button to lock. I just tried to lock it, got the prompt where you can enable airplane mode and turn the phone off and I clicked the back arrow, after ~5 secs it rebooted, could something be stuck behind this button or could my ROM be bugged?
Edit2: Well I disassembled my phone, probably something was stuck behind my button and fell out or something else was wrong with it.. But the most important thing is: It works like it should again, locking is going smooth now and it really feels as if my phone was better than before XD
Next time I'll open it first before opening a topic on xda, but well.. Hopefully somebody who will ever have the same problem will find this thread and fix it the same way I did

Well to be honest, it'll stick to randomly rebooting itself once in a while, less than it was before disassembling and putting it back together again though (From 5 times in one hour to max. 3 on a day). But trying this could never mess something up (as long as you know what you are doing.) At least it's possible to use my phone normally again.
For the people that don't know how to disassemble, use this: http://www.formymobile.co.uk/s5570disassembly.php
Disassemble until you've got the battery compartment of, then just assemble again.
Hi all
I am not technical and am not really sure what to even call this issue, but have done numerous searches on this and other forums over a few weeks and am not able to find anything like it. I'm sure there must be, but because there is nothing onscreen to help identify the issue I don't know what to search for next.
I few weeks ago I got a message to upgrade the O/S. I didn't do it at work, as my reception there is pretty lousy. When I did do it I had good reception. When it had finished, it then wanted to install. I left it until the next day, when I was home again with a strong signal. It commenced installation but when it got to 91% it rebooted and started over again. This has been happening ever since and the only way to stop it is to remove the battery. I've tried leaving the battery out for several hours, draining it, and all the different kinds of reboots but nothing helps. I was able to get it into download mode, but then it got stuck in there. I was able to get it back to the other screen and don't know what to do now.
The only thing on the screen is a standing android guy with a blue polyhedron rotating in his belly, and an upload percentage. It always restarts at 91%.
I don't want to mess anything up, because this is a borrowed phone - after my previous two Nexus 4s chucked it in. I ended up having to send the first N4 back to Google and lost everything on the phone, but the other one has a lot of data I really want to keep, so I won't do that again.
Is anyone able to help me with this issue?
