For all the people asking about GPS I just found a program that called google maps it is sorta like google earth. I loaded it on my phone turned it on and it found my exact location. You can do direction with it as well. I have not driven with it yet but it looks awesome. I'm not sure if it comes with the voice while driving either. just thought I would throw it out there for anyone looking for a GPS program.

I have been using google for a long time, very nice... i like to start it in aerial mode, connect with gps, zoom in as much as i can.
I have also used live maps before, but i don't understand the "turn by turn" directions, is this gps-like? or just the regular directions from point a to point b?

It is always good to discover something new and exciting, and I'm sure some folks have not yet discovered Google Maps.
Just a word of advice though - before creating a new thread consider two things:
1
Has it been discussed already? I used the search button and look what I found - http://www.google.com/cse?cx=000825531964825142534%3Acqr2sjirilw&q=google+maps&cof=FORID%3A0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
2
Am I on the correct forum? i.e. Does this discovery of mine apply to more than one phone - if yes then the General Forum will be better than a specific device forum.
So given there are one or two other threads on this, I'll close this one, 'cos it'll spoil the fun of the sarcasm merchants above
Enjoy Google Maps
Mike

alright sorry guys, I've done a search in these forums and i apologize if I'm not doing it correctly.
I was wondering if there is any software out there such as bearshare or limewire for a mobile device. Every once in a while i here a song on the radio and cant remember when i get home to download it.
I did a bit of research on google, and it seems like there was quite a bit of stuff floating around about this topic in '05 and '06, but nothing I found seemed to be new.
Thanks guys!
There have been a few I saw..I used one back in 2007 but it was deactivated and the project was trashed. Ill do some more searching and see what I can dig up.

look for and app called Music ID, it listens to the song and finds the title and name of the artist, but requires a data connection.
ya i can always look up lyrics on google too, but it'd be much cooler if i could download straight from my phone because I'm rarely home.
thanks guys i'll check some stuff out

considering he/most people would use it to download "free stuff".....would it be wrong for him to just download a "free version" of that app

I installed TomTom 7 from this site but its saying no maps can be found how can i download the maps for UK if anyone has the cab. file for it? Thanks
lalasia
Follow the instructions here --> http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=72600 and you can purchase and download the maps from the TomTom website.
Cheers,
Steve.
Thats alot of help but my question is would you advice me to buy the maps or download them?? Is there any difference in this?
And i downloaded TTN 7.910 so should i get the version 7 maps or the version 8 maps?
Thanks
lalasia
Follow the instructions I gave you in the post, and you will get the latest maps LEGALLY. If you want to over-install the 7.910 application afterwards, then the maps will continue to work fine (that's what I'm doing).
Downloading the maps from elsewhere is illegal, and shouldn't be discussed here.
Cheers,
Steve.
You can get TomTom Maps here:

Warez is not allowed at XDA. Whether People use it or not is there problem. XDA will participate in no way to the Stealing of Software.
To the Original Poster: I suggest you BUY the Maps you don't want the Cops busting down your doors do you, You just had them replaced!

I'm no hypocrite.
What I find frustrating is that there are a whole bunch of "MoFos" who whinge and complain that TomTom don't look after the PDA market properly, and then rip off the software as soon as they can get their hands on it - it's only £30 to get the latest version, so it's not like it used to be when my first version cost over £100.
Is it any wonder that TomTom would rather stick to the PND market, when we don't support the products that they do release?
Cheers,
STeve.

There's one thats called gfinder or something similar. I'll try and find the exact name unless someone else can chime in.
When I first went into the t-mobile store to check out the g1, they showed me something similiar to what you are asking but the downfall was that other g1 users had to opt in to use it. For some reason I thought it was part of the original cupcake software
Now that I checked, it is right in google maps, called latitude
latitude
Does latitude have general people on it or do you have to add friends before you can use it ???
It's friends only.

You have to add friends but the gfinder or gfindster just see's everyone, but of course they would have to have the app installed. I used it a long time ago and didn't think much of it. While looking that up I saw another app called loopt that looks like the same thing, I could be wrong tho.
Latitude works for everybody. Not just G1 users. It uses your Gmail account to send request to other people who have to accept you and allow you to see where they are at and chat and stuff. Works nicely, but you have to know their e-mail address to get them added.
So, no you can not find random people with G1's to connect with. I don't know if there is an app that will allow that, but Latitude will not.
I believe you have to opt in to use it, general people on there and since it requires your gps to use, I don't think that you will find any one using except for the most basic users that are unaware that turning off the gps saves you some serious battery life
Aight I just looked it up and its call GFindster PREMIUM but they also have a lite version.
Hmmm, seems like the salesman at t-mobile gave me the wrong info then but since I never used it, I was baseing my info on inacurate info, sorry

No your right cause they was pushing the whole latitude thing. But GFindster is just a seperate app that looks up anyone without having them listed as friends.
thankyou
Thankyou you all for your help I will check out the gfindster app and see how it goes.
you should also check out buddymob
shows where all users are on a map around you and you can click on their little dot (pink for women, blue for guys) and it will show you their profile without having to be their friend

Laggy rather!
It tells you sometimes in 2 mile you will be turning left, then 1 mile you will be turning left, then it leaves it just before the junction, read about this before and others have experienced the same. Reminds me I should test it on 2.1 see if its a os thing rather than co pilot itself.

I dont believe anyone but you find the question to be stupid. I did however find your post disrespective to the OP, hence my response. If you think "GPS app" is stupid, its hardly the OP's fault but rather your own. Ive yet to meet a person with so devastatingly decreased IQ that he couldnt divine the meaning of "gps app".

you obviously don't know a lot of people... a gps app can be so much, and frankly i think a car navigation is the last. there are geocaching applications, simple monitors for the gps, apps for running/hiking/biking/skiing/golfing/fishing/sailing/climbing and so on. most of the people i know would ask for navigational software if they mean it.
what i find disrespectful is wanting help, but not even taking the time to phrase a question correctly. i think it is not asked too much that you at least state your problem in a complete sentence. and it is actually even more disrespectful if the op then vanishes from the thread, what seems to have happened here. i mean, we are still guessing what exactly is meant by "gps app". in your head it is satnav, in mine it is still not exactly determined what he meant. but wise and knowingly as you are i will be happy to leave this thread and have you keep on guessing...
*shaking my head about this amount of ignorance being supported...*

Just an FYI, but their are *plenty* of "gps apps" that are not related to turn-by-turn navigation! Having said that, I would generally assume someone meant navigation, but KendonG2 did ask the OP to be more specific!

Dave

This is so people can increase their number of post and get a greater title lolol.
I read so many replies that I forgot the questions lolol. If you are in the United States and have Sprint as your carrier, try out Sprint Navigation System. It is pretty good.

When I click the mic, and then the music note, it seems to get a result, but displays nothing. Any clue? Pure nexus latest with magisk root, pretty much stock otherwise.
Details, details, details.
How in the heck is anyone supposed to help when you don't provide any information whatsoever? A picture and a brief description of your problem isn't going to cut it.
The details are there, you just have to already know that Google music lets you search for the name of a song that is playing. Anyone who didn't use this would have no idea what this post is about ?
All of that said, to the OP, it looks like the theme is interfering with the app. Try removing all themes.
No, the details are not there. In the OP's post, he should have specified what app he was using and what he was expecting to see. Instead, what we got is what the OP posted, which is positively crappy when you're expecting someone to help you with a problem you're having. That said, you're right that I wouldn't have known about it. I use Shazam for that kind of music search. I had also used the Google app, prior to its morphing into the Google Assistant, which removed that feature.
Haha the details are there plain and clear. I knew exactly what he was talking about. Music search is still there even after/with the assistant, its under widgets. And Shazaam sucks bro

1. The OP should provide sufficient detail that anyone can answer his question. He did not, and the only reason he got an answer at all is because people came across his thread and knew what he was talking about. Had you not seen his post, it would have gone unanswered, which would be of no help to him at all. If you guys are unable to see that, then there's little point in continuing to participate in discussions, since the lack of information would then be the new normal.
2. Your opinion is noted. The current implementation of Google's music search sucks wind, because you have to use a widget to access it. Prior to the Assistant you could simply perform a voice search and Google would pull up the song. If Google Assistant didn't nerf useful features of its predecessor we wouldn't be discussing the merits of Shazam because I'd be using the Assistant. Since Shazam can search upon starting the app, it's far more useful than the current Google implementation.
3. I'm not your bro, your pharma bro (look it up), or your "don't tase me" bro.
Shazaam is full of bloat and excessive for something that is already built into the ROM. The Google music search also searches when you start it. Shazaam couldn't find a lot of music, and gave me the wrong song a bunch of times . I'm surprised people even still use Shazaam
Wow, can we spell O-F-F T-O-P-I-C ?
I'm sorry some find my post incomplete ss far as info given. Those that do get it, it is pretty obvious, right? Click Google (radio in car on) click mic (Google starts listening), click music note (Google starts listening for music), it does it's little "blink" like it got a result, but...well the screen shot says it. It's been a while since I tried. Lemme see what happens today. Google app did update recently I think.
