i have the iguidence on my tilt but there is no sound. is there anyone out there with the original iguidence cab??
The cab file doesn't contain the sounds. They are loaded from the DVD when you install. Alternatively, you can copy them from the DVD to the storage card (along with the map files).
This is assuming you have purchased version 4.0 of iGuidance.
i purchased the tilt w/ the program installed. is there anywhere to retreive the audio w/out the cd.
If you purchased the tilt with the software installed, you may want to go back to your seller and request the DVD that is rightfully yours (provided the sale included iGuidance).
There is no way to install the sounds without the DVD.
where did u get the cab?

Ok. I've been trying to get this program (DVD to Pocket PC) working properly, with no success.
I downloaded the demo version, and it 'started' to make a 5 minute copy of a DVD. It ripped the DVD, then crashed when attempting to turn the MPG file into a WMV file. I was able to manually convert the file to WMV format, and it ran on the XDA.
The problem is, the program doesn't work anymore. I can't get it to rip ANY more DVD's, not even the same DVD I used initially.
I love the idea of the program, and was really looking forward to buying it if it worked properly. I have a shiny new 512MB SD card just begging to be used.
Does ANYONE out there have the actual, whole version of the program that they can tell me about? I have been burned before buying badly written Pocket PC programs, and don't want that to happen again. If someone can loan me the full version so I can evaluate it, I'd REALLY appreciate it!
I just want to make sure the program works properly. The demo seems to be really flaky.
Thanks.

The demo crashes for me too at the same stage you described, so I uninstalled the damn thing and moved on.
I'm using Win2K, and this may be my problem - the website says XP only. Whatever. Can't be bothered.
I guess this program must work - otherwise, why do they sell it? Crashing halfway through is an obvious bug, no?
I have the full version, running on xp pro, it works flawlessly, I leave a dvd in the drive overnight and in the morning I have a film for transferring to sd or cf card, never crashed on me either.
That's interesting.
I am also using XP Pro, and like I said in the previous post, the program (demo) 'started' ripping the DVD, then promptly crashed at the point when it was supposed to be converting it to WMV. I was highly disapointed to say the least.
I even tried uninstalling the program and reinstalling. The exact same thing occurred.
I'm using the full version on WindowsXP, and it's GREAT!! 8) 8) 8)
I uninstalled it again and reinstalled, and now it's working properly. VERY cool. I think it's worth the $25.00.
I also have the full version of this software, worth every penny
One thing worth mentioning is the Step 2 Only option from the Special menu
If the program doesn't complete the final step of converting to WMV, just select the Step 2 only option and it'll finish off
You can also trick it into converting any mpeg files into wmv by renaming them to DVD.mpg, placing them in root c:\ and running a Step 2 Only
Very useful for TV episodes, as it compresses Simpsons episodes to 30mb
I think I saw this software in PC Magazine. Are you saying that you can download an entire Movie DVD onto your PDA?
Yep,
It compresses a 90minute movie to approx. 128mb
so increase the size slightly for longer films
i've had two 90minute films no problem on a 256mb SD card, and haven't had any issues with slow load time or memory problems
Hope this helps
How do you download the DVD? Can you give me kind of a dumb guys version. I'm a bit new to this stuff.
Also, maybe I can ask you... I can't seem to open images with TIF extensions?
how to make a dvd small enough to fit on your 512MB sd card
http://www.makayama.com/dvdtopocketpc.html
the easist way to open tif is to use
irfanview to change the picture from tif to jpg
otherwise maybe this program does it

This is slightly off the thread, but...
I personally thought that $25 was a bit steep for software that just rips a DVD, and then uses freely available microsoft tools to convert it into a small file. Theres a whole load of free stuff available that will do all this.
Another problem I had with the software is that it is not configurable. The demo 5 minute video I produced had a frame rate of 20 fps. The playback was noticably jerky. I would be prepared to suffer a 25% increase in file size for 25fps.
I would recommend anyone thinking of buying this software to check out the following free tools, to see if you can't get a result as good or better:

Does anyone else think that MIDI playback on the Kaiser (mine is a T-Mobile Vario III) is much poorer than on other hardware? I have a number of polyphonic midi files which made great ringtones on my old Vario, but on the Vario III they sound tinny and incomplete - it's as though it is only playing a limited number of voices, so that some of the channels in the mix are not being played at all and parts of the music are missing.
For example, in both of the attached midi files the melody part is missing when played the Vario III (even when played in WMP mobile) but they play fine on my old Vario I or in WMP on my PC.
Andre
I noticed the same thing and had to edit some of the midi files with a midi editor to simplify them.
[Double post]
Does anyone know the specific limitations of the latest [sic] midi player then? Which midi channels does it play?
Another retrograde step from HTC.
Andre
It seems like something wrong with the file "htcmidi.avd" which is in OEMAPPS,
It's only 303 KB but in Hermes it's 540 KB,
I guess some polyphony lost in the smaller file,
You could try to replace it with the bigger one.

Bingo, that solved the problem. I copied in the version of HTCMIDI.AVD from my old Vario (size 540K) and that worked fine and plays a LOT better than the one supplied with the Vario III - all the midi channels seem to play, and the sound is now much 'richer' and less tinny. Many thanks for the suggestion! BTW, if anyone else wants to try it, both devices have this file located in their \WINDOWS\ directory. No reboot seems necessary.
Now, does anyone know if there are any advantages to the newer version of this file, or other issues I might discover later?
Andre
Can you post the file up for others to compare?

Sure, try the attached file. It's from a first generation T-Mobile Vario, but the ROM is MrCleanROM 2.24a so it'll be a standard-issue HTC file I suspect. As always, please make a backup of the original version in your \windows\ directory before continuing! It worked for me, anyway.
Andre
I also have a Wizard and a TyTN II and I have not had this problem with Mid files. On the contrary, if anything, they sound better on my TyTN II.

I used the attached file but it plays the midi exactly the same as before.
Is here someone who can play the midi in the same way as on pc?
For those who don't have the limited channel midi playback problem, could you check the size of the HTCMIDI.AVD file on your device? Is it 540KB, or smaller?

Hello everyone, new diamond owner and new to this forum, which I found while trying to sort out a TCPMP to work on my shiny new phone.
So, a thousand thanks to MilesMowbray for posting the cab that installs correctly under WM6.
But when I try to open one of my divx (.avi) files I get an “unknown file format” error message.
I’ve checked the file associations and the .avi wasn’t checked, so I activated it. In fact I activated them all to be sure I wasn’t missing something.
Further searching revealed a link to an extract from "bender's big score" which I downloaded and am able to read perfectly!
The demo files that come with mobile divx player also work fine on TCPMP.
I thought it might be a problem with my film conversion.
So I tried TWO films that I had watched perfectly succesfully using TCPMP on my old PPC, an Orange SPV C600 (rebranded HTC with WM5) Copied the actual file from the old phone onto the Diamond:
"unknown file format"
All the converted files play perfectly on the PC
OK so maybe it's not the conversion.
I have always used the excellent Pocketdivxencoder, I've tried the Smartphone, PPC & PPCVGA output settings to no avail.
Can any of you give me a pointer as to what I could try next?
Many thanks in advance.
Luke
I just recently changed my ATT tilt with the windows 6.0 version to the 6.1 version. I want to download the HTC Audio Manager so I can manage my ring-tones. However, I downloading the link was provided by rickwyatt and run it to my laptop but could not find the setup to install it on my laptop to transfer it to my phone. I tried also to copy the audio-zip link and paste it to my storage card while my phone was syncing but it didn't work. Can some one tell me how to or get the HTC manager so I can transfer it to my phone and what are the protocols. Thanks,

How on earth did this wind up in the news
Ok, I have HTC Audio Manager, but I don't know anything about managing ringtones. As far as I know Audio Manager is a music player. So I don't understand what you're trying to do with the ringtones.
When I upgraded to the WM6.1 (RUU_Kaiser_CINGULAR_WWE_3.57.502.2_radio_sign_25.88.40.05_1.65.21.18_Ship.exe), I found that my videos with file extension ".3gp" will no longer play.
I get a simple Windows Media error "Cannot play the file".
When I reverted back to the original WM6 the one that came with my AT&T Tilt (RUU_Kaiser_CINGULAR_WWE_1.62.502.0_radio_sign_22.45.88.07_1.27.14.09R2_Ship.exe), my .3gp files would play normally.
Does anyone know why this is the case?
Thanks in advance.
TCPMP-0.72RC1 can handle .3gp files. Google the .cab
Hope that helps.

This cab won't work.
Hmmm... well this sucks... Right now, I'm not seeing any "value add" for my upgrading to WM6.1 The only thing I'm seeing differently is the threaded IM's, the zoom feature in IE, and the time "plug in" to the Today screen. Of these, the only real value to me is the Today screen. But since I use SPB mobile shell, it's somewhat redundant!
Am I missing any other feature?

Sorry, I should told you to go to Options>Settings>Select Page>File Associations and make sure MPEG4 files (MP4,MOV,3GP.... is checked.
Hope you didn't already uninstall TCPMP.
My 6.1 plays 3gp files... strange thing is that when copying them to my device, I receive an error msg stating that WM 6.1 can copy the file for storage or transportation but will not be able to play the file, or something along those lines. However the file plays fine
Any more on this? I cant get .3GP files to play at all on my phone... Im running 6.1 on my tilt..
Players available:
TCPMP 0.71 RC1 Recomp 03
Pocket Tunes 4.1.1.2046
They will both play *.3gp perfectly fine.
Thank you very much. Your 4shared is amazing
