O2 XDA Stellar Wireless Modem Missing from "Programs" - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

Hi
I am trying to set up my O2 XDA Stellar to act as a modem for the laptop, although all the information I have seen in groups indicates that to be able to do this I need to use the "Wireless Modem" application within the programs menu, although it isn't listed. I have also tried to use "Internet Sharing" but this doesn't work either.
Can anyone help please.
Thanks

Hi mate
You can use the Internet Sharing program to 'share' your internet connection with your PC. You need to connect it up using the USB cable and away you go.

Thanks
I was trying for ages to get this working, then I read the phone manual and found out that activesync had to be installed - that will teach me to go steaming off in the wrong direction!
Now it works fine.
Thanks

Modemlink and Edge question

I tried to search this but the only thing I could find was a thread that walked you through the setup but when I tried it, nothing happened.
Here is what I got:
T-Mobile, T-zones workaround for Edge.
Can I tether my MDA to my laptop via USB cable to use Edge. If so, someone please walk me through it.
Thanks,
M3
I've been trying this too but wasn't very successful. I've tried setting up everything myself from my knowledge, but I guess that wasn't enough.
So I found a program called PDAnet. It is supposed to be an excellent program to do exactly what you're asking- connect GPRS phone to laptop to access internet. Well, I've tried this program but was not successful. For some reason I couldn't get it to work. But do give it a try yourself, it is supposed to be great.
If it works for you, maybe you can share your settings? thanks
I do this all the time, I hate the $9.95 1 day access fee when your in an airport maybe 2 hours if that.
First, ditch the USB cable and link via bluetooth. I only got my USB setup to work once and that after massive messing around. I'm assuming you have bluetooth on your lap top, I've a Dell so your set up may be somewhat different than mine.
First you want to make sure your BT radio is on, all I have to do is right click on the system tray icon and enable radio. Next bring up the BT settings manager and hit make a new connection. On the Com screen in the wizard make sure it's set to discoverable, there is a link under the settings menu bottom of the screen. If this is the first time you've paired the laptop to the Wizard then you'll need to enter the access code, in my case it is 0000 for both. On my laptop I need to go into the manual connection process otherwise it assumes I want to do a file transfer and not a modem connection. Set the connection to dial up modem, if it asks you for a number to dial it is *99# (Tmobile gprs). Thats pretty much it. The only hitch I've found is that I occasionally need to set the wizard to discoverable.
When I want to connect to the internet at admittedly slow GPRS speeds I bring up the BT manager and hit connect, it finds the Wizard, dials it into the GPRS and that's it, I'm tethered and have internet access. It's slow, kind of like a dsl line but for checking emails it's just fine. I used to have a Sierra Aircard which I could pop my SIM into and that worked great and was stable but the new laptop has an express card slot so the Aircard doesnt fit. If you have the older style port and Cingular or Tmobile you can pick these up cheap on ebay.

New! Version 1.72 adds support for GSM/GPRS devices such as T-Mobile MDA or Cingular 8125! It also supports Vista and Bluetooth/InfraRed connection through ActiveSync.
^thats from their website. Have you tried it lately?
I'm about to install it myself and try. Will post how it goes.

Active sync 4.5.0 and Internet

Hey everyone I am really curious about how I need to go about accesing the internet throung the usb connection while my tilt is plugged in. I have read that previous versions of active sync had a feature called pass through which could be enabled / disabled at your choice. However in the current version of active sync this does not seem to be an option.
I basically just want to be able to browse the net on my tilt while I am connected to the pc via my usb cable.
Why because the at home internet connect is way better then the 3g network. This way I can download large files directly to my phone.
I have tried the registry edit as well as other methods. Still can't get the damn thing to work..
I am running the stock tilt rom directly from att. No mods no nothing. Also the version of active sync that I have came directly off the att tilt cd.
Please Help I appreciate your efforts in advance!
I have this workaround ( same situation with my X51V ) that you can try.
import the reg file or add the following key:
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services]
"AllowLSP"=dword:00000000
Most works out of the box ( internet while activesync ... not sure why yours don't ... could be something that you did ??
anyway ... try the reg import and report back
I didn't do anything on mine and it is able to connect to internet through the USB whenever I connect it. WiFi is disable when the USB is connected.

when setting up activesync ... the last window allow you to enable WIFI while connected to USB too ( if prefered )
or go into ( File -->> Connection Settings ) and check "allow wireless connection on device while connected to desktop"
yeah tried the reg hack before. didn't change anything for me.
I also messed with the advanced network functionality box under start settings> connections> USB to PC.
No worky for me.
Is there anything else you guys have done on the phone? Should there be any other entries under network management? RIght now I have listed
Media Net
AT&T ISP
My Work Network
MY ISP
If you haven't MOD anything like you've said ... I would suggest a hard reset ... and don't touch that USB to PC setting !!!
things should allow you to surf while activesync right out of the box !

for real OH Jebus Hard reset. Just great. Well atleast i don't have too much on my phone.
Any other suggestions?
In your PC ACtiveSYnc' connection settings, you will have a drop-down under name "This computer is connected to". Take out Automatic there and choose Internet.
Sometimes ActiveSync will not recognize that your PC has internet. Tell me if this was it in your case.

Carty..

yeah my man did that as well... maybe I will try the hard reset and see what happens
ive been curious about this also. mine just seems to default to my 3g connection...do i have to disable this for it to use the active sync connection?
Nope. When Synced, ActiveSync' net is on first priority!
Regards,
Carty..
I wonder if you have the networks proxy set in your default internet connection and when you connect via as it cant see the proxy nd thus wont allow connection...
interesting i tried out the newest rom on kaiser upgrade section...the att rom. i was gettin the same behavior. i loved the rom but was only bugged by that. i went to a new rom and fixed that problem. something with how att handles activesync cant do the job.
And ATT use a proxy...

i tried the diasable proxy cab flying around...it was no good. I'm using a different rom right now. It only happened to me on that specific rom.
I would have thought you just need to check the connection settings and make sure no proxy is enabled.
regarding the Tilt and the proxy ... you could try out these 2 cabs at this thread ( 1 for disable ... the other is for enable )
look towards the end of the post ..."Sleuth255" had provided the cabs for you Tilt owners to fix the hidden proxy that is involved with AT&T Tilt
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1656670&postcount=1
if it works ... holler so that other Tilt owners can benefit !

Nice I downloaded the cabs. But before I launched them I took a look at my tilt for another second.
Keep in mind that I just did a hard reset and this is a stock att ship ROM.
Under start> Programs>Tools> There is a icon called proxy manager.
I clicked on diable proxy and did a soft reset. The problem is now fixed. I can browse the net while connected via usb through pass Thru.
Maybe the cabs do not need to be downloaded afterall as att already has them installed but thank you for the lifesaver!
Thanks people!
Hi,
I also used proxy manager to disable the proxy. Now whenever i connect my phone with activesync, it keeps connecting to the phone's GPRS (mediaNet). i look under the connections icon and it shows medianet connected, but not activesync.
anyone know how i can fix this to return to normal? i tried enabling the proxy again, but no luck.
HI,
I think I need the opposite
At work there is a very restrictive proxy that allows pie connections but, for example, does not allow to update the weather in HTC HOME.
There is a WIFI nearby that allows it...
Now, what I would like is to have my device ActiveSync'ed (so contacts, and so on are OK) while using WIFI for ineternet access...
Anyone knows if it is possible and how?
Thanks

Kaiser/Tilt won't connect to internet through PC

I have tried everything over the last two weeks:
disable/enable proxy
AllowLSP registry entry
firewall settings
home and work networks
wired and wireless connections
and I still cannot get the WM6 device to connect to the internet through my XP PC when it is connected via activesync.
Does someone have the silver bullet perfect solultion?

yes,
i installed Dutty's Rom and that fixed the dillema, before i was not able to fix it, didn't matter what i tried.
I've been unable to solve this as well on my stock Tilt. I'm not really thrilled about flashing a new rom (I'd no doubt brick the little bugger).
It would be nice to know what's blocking the connect, though.
If you're AT&T you need to run the disable proxy cab to connect to internet usin A/Sync.
....and three seconds later, that worked (I've been tinkering around all moring trying to solve that).
Thanks a ton Gsleon3!
Finally! It is hard to type as I jump up and down. The remove proxy cab worked!
So now the question, what doesn't work when the proxy is removed? Looks like at&t video and medianet pages don't work and weather on the HTC home screen.
On my Kaiser the remove proxy cab didn't work..What else can I do to use my xp's internet connection?
where to find the cab file?
Can anyone tell me where to find the disable proxy cab file? I've been searching on the forum but i can't seem to find it.
thx
dutty's threads have it.. a collection of cabs
i have the opposite problem - i want my tilt to NOT connect through the PC and to use MediaNET instead (because we block streaming media at work)
however i find that when the phone is usb connected to my PC i get no internet at all.
can anyone advise?
nevermind - searched and found solution to my problem

Can you guys post and let me know what kind of speeds you guys are getting through ics ?

Tethering, I've already searched the forum...

I want to be able to connect my tmobile usa kaiser to my notebook and use the net. Someone please help me... Im stuck in the middle of no where with no other way to access the net...
Hi,
The way I do it uses ActiveSync 4.5.
On AS 4.5 on the PC go into connection settings and uncheck/turn off "allow USB connections". That way AS won't try to start syncing.
Connect the Kaiser.
Launch 'Internet Sharing" on the Kaiser.
PC Connection should read USB.
Network Connection should read your choice of internet/network connection.
Click connect down the bottom left and you should get a connection...
flickster99
no connection...
do a search for WMWifirouter.cab. Works great for tethering

This forum (and other Forums) are littered with instructions. Just takes a little diligence and reading to piece it all together. Previous poster is right, if you have WiFi on your laptop then you should try WMWifiRouter.
If you prefer ICS then here's the little that I know - might help you get started. So I'm assuming here that when you say "tethering" you're talking about ICS and not using your phone as a USB modem. Are you on a stock T-Mobile WM6 ROM or a cooked ROM? If you're on a cooked ROM you probably already have ICS available. Do you have any shortcuts in your programs for Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)? How about in your Comm Manager - anything to turn it on / off? If no, then you'll need to browse your file system on the device and find the file \Windows\IntShrUI.exe. That's the one you need to start ICS.
If you don't have it you can try installing from the attached files. No guarantees, but it might do the job for you.
Shouldn't need to do any other configuring on your phone, like disabling advanced USB options from connection settings. Also you shouldn't need to disable or change anything in Activesync on the PC, like disabling your USB connection. Once you start ICS select your connection (go with USB, it's easier and requires no setup). Choose your network connection. Click connect. Plug in your USB cable.
You're PC should add a new network connection, you'll get a new IP address for that connection (I think something like 192.168.x.x). Then you should be able to browse the internet.

I was trying to get this work on a Verizon Ozone, which definitely did not have the ICS component. In addition to the three files mentioned in the post above (installed first in the order listed) I needed to also get the IPDrivers CAB file from the author of WMWiFiRouter. I simply used the contact form on that website and mentioned trouble with Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). It sent an automated reply (about 12 hours later) that contained the file. So then I installed it, and then finally installed WMWiFiRouter. I found that the install order was important! I found that inspecting the WMWiFiRouter log file (under TOOLs in the menu) was helpful in figuring things out. I knew i had it right went there were no more FAILures in the log. Even then it did not work and I discovered that my WEP encryption key was not the recommended 5 or 13 characters and it had made its own longer key, which of course did not match what I used the system that was trying to use the WiFi. Once I put in a 13 character key, everything works just fine! I also found that I did NOT need to run the ICS manually, so don't bother messing around with it. WMWiFiRouter knows that it is there and uses it transparently.
Can you upload all the files you used??i also have the ozone

Has anyone had any luck teathering their tilt?

Hi all, no matter what I do I cant get it to work!! I have followed these directions to the letter:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=288753
I can't figure out if these directions are supposed to work for the TyTn II also. Al=nyways if anyone has sucess with teathering the tilt could you give me some pointers. I get the drivers installed corectly and all the steps up to the tes of the connection but it will not pass the test.
on my tilt, there is a file called internet sharing under the windows folder. Create a shortcut to your start menu\programs folder. Clicking on it will allow you to connect your laptop via usb to your tilt and get internet access.
I simply use WMWirelessRouter and tether my laptop by connecting to my kaiser wirelessly. Works fine.
i use a program called wmwifirouter v.91
works great an lets you teather using wifi so you don't need the cable. the developer stpped distriuting it but if you searh around you should be able to find it still, there is whole thread about it in the development and hacking section in the main forum
