I'm going to be the third person to recommend installing Modaco NoData to toggle on/off your GPRS data network access.
Hope this helps!

You can call your provider and have them disable data services on their side. That way, you don't have to worry about a 3rd party patch or program not working.

I have a notebook, with MS Vista, and with mobile internet (pcmcia card). A tried to connect internet via s730 through mobile device center, but i can't.
I tried with WI-FI: connect to my notebook (ad hoc connection) but i can't use internet.
I tried it with free hotspot and it works.
I don't understand. What can i do?
How are you trying to get online?
You want the s730 do connect to your data network and share that? Or do you want to dial it into the internet (someone got that working on here) or are you connected through your notebook already and want to share that to your s730?

I've never been able to get this to work, I don't even know if you can or not.
I am confused.
Do you want your s730 to get on the Internet by connecting to your laptop? Can you just use a usb cable then you can use internet connection through laptop onto phone.
If I understand you correctly your laptop is what is online and you want it to pass the connection onto your phone through the wifi?
If thats the case that you just need to enable ICS on your laptop. It will be under your menu settings, I havnt messed around with vista's network settings so I cannot tell you quite what it looks like. Possibly a check box or a protocol to install. But once you install Internet Connection Sharing your computer should pass the connection out.

I have this working on my machine with my 730. Often you might need to repair the network connection to your phone from the network connection control panel as it sometimes loses it's IP address.
I also found that I needed to do some work in OneCare which I use as an AntiVirus and Firewall as this was blocking access to the Mobile Device Center.
hope this helps

Hi, I got my TyTNII (kaiser) on saturday and have just managed to sort out the wireless client at work.
I don't get free bandwidth from Orange so don't really want to be using my Orange web connection when I am actually connected to wifi at work. How can i set my phone to use wireless when it is connected rather than trying to open even more connections? Its really annoying as it keeps checking my email accounts and using HSDPA to do so.
Internet Explorer wont even use the Wifi
what use is a phone with wifi if it wont actually use the wifi to access the internet?
Could someone point me at the settings. There must be a setting somewhere to get it to use the connection!

I have had no problem using WiFi with IE or any other browser. I always connect to my router via Comm Manager first (enable WiFi) and then open IE or another browser and surf the net.
Just click on the network card tab when setting up wifi and make sure that the card is set to connect to "the internet".
Your device will use a valid wifi connection if its available (before trying gprs/3g)
You may also try installing a CAB called "NoData" or "KasierTweak" that will allow you to temporarily disable data services other than your Wifi. This is what I use since I am not on a data plan (yet) with AT&T.

ah yeah - just found this - it was set to 'work' simply because its my connection at work. obviously WM counts that has being different to 'the internet'
seems okay now.
Thanks for the help
If you have an active wireless connection, it will automatically use that connection instead of your data connection regardless.
Guys, please help me. whenever i connect any of GPS programs, my device automatically connects to internet. when i am in my home country this is not a big problem, but when i am abroad the fees for roaming GPRS/EDGE are huge.
can you give me any advice?

Download KaiserTweak and disable "Assisted GPS". This will configure your phone to rely solely on the internal GPS chip for routing instead of using cell phone towers as well.

Yeah... what we both said.
I wish my Assisted GPS worked like that. I have it turned on, but it never connects to the internet when I turn it on.
BTW what are the server ip and port settings supposed to be?
Thanks
AT&T Tilt on AT&T network.
also on the KaizerTweak go to the Data (GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA/WIFI) section and disable the GPRS connection by selecting the 4th line where it says "Enabled:**** Web" ans set it to "Disabled" to avoid extra charging from roaming. This because QuickGPS might use GPRS or even assisted GPS might (or not) use GPRS or other Data connection.
Cheers
I can connect to my W-Lan, but the internet connection isnt shared. Cant load anything on browser, mail, wheater... My roommates use our w-lan for internet with their xda´s and notebooks, just my diamond isnt working. If it is connected over active sync i get internet, just dont want to use the cable all the time. I've seen sometimes that even if your settings are fine it doesn't connect to
internet with power in battery best. Don't ask me why.
What are your settings under connections? Internet or work and so on?

I'm pretty sure it's due to lack of assignment of DNS servers from the Acesspoint you are connecting to.
You should try to manually setup DNS servers for the connection. There are plenty of free ones, google it.
battery setting: tried best performance, no difference
Internet or work: tried both with same result
DNS: changed setting on wifi adapter: dns: 208.67.222.222 alt dns: 208.67.220.220, still no internet for me
What should i try now?
Still didnt get it to work, please suggest me something.

I also had trouble using WLAN. In the end it seems, that the wlan connection was not the preferred routing, and nearly all data still flowed over the mobile connection. When using WLAN I always have to terminate any existing mobile data connections (Tap on the icons on the top, then on the data connection-type icon, e.g. stylized G for GPRS and then disconnect in the pop-up).
The weird thing is, that not all data went over mobile. DNS-Requests where sent over WLAN, but connections to webservers where routed over the mobile connection. Seems to me like a bug, as you would normally expect that all traffic is routed over the wlan once a connection is up an running.

What is the standard of your W-LAN? Is it 802.11b? Mine does not work with 802.11b but is working fine with 802.11g.
Wo use just WEP. The router cant do more.
I dont use any mobilde data connection, way to expensive with my provider.
If it possible, How to share internet connection from laptop to G1 over USB ?
Please suggest, Thank you.
What you want is called tether but in this case wired tether which is in most ROMs here
To save some time here I did the search for you:

Actually I think he's looking for the inverse, which I've seen people look for before. I don't think I've seen a solution though.
I think he wants to do the oposite. Use the internet connection that his laptop is already using so that his G1 gets internet.
If that's the case, then please pass your phone to the nearest person and go read some internets...

Question is, why would you want to? Only reason I can seem to think of is if the laptop/desktop is connected through a wired connection, meaning you have no wifi at your house. If you do have wifi, and your laptop is connected through wifi to your ISP, then your phone can also connect with it's wifi adapter to the same AP.

Wow I just assumed he wanted to use the phone as a router.
I was sharing internet through BT and Wifi for some time, but did not succeed to do it over USB. Beside there is one big problem: even if you will set everything on linux level and have internet in your phone, Android will not know about it. So apps which don't make checks for internet connectivity will work, but these which do, will be waiting for internet. I've found some workarounds, but that problem is really frustrating.

For some people as in my case, wifi and/or cellular sometimes is not an option.
