Occasionally when I have an unread txt or I am composing a txt I get an icon that looks like "X19" but smooshed horizontally next to my carrier/signal icons.
I have no idea what this is...
I have:
ATT Tilt Unlocked
HTC WM6.1 TyTNII ROM
Thanks in advance for any help, I don't seem to be experiencing any problems because of it, I just don't know what it means, and it doesn't do anything when I click on it. I searched the forums and all I found were people talking about their handsets' dimensions "blah x blah x 19 (mm)"...
Thanks again,
bpapa9013
anyone? beats me on this one
It's xt9, rather than x19, letting you know that you are using the xt9 predictive text input method.
i use neither since i dont like sips since my fingers are too big and dont have time to be tappin along with stylus

I had this problem on my 8525 after flashing one of many ROM's and now have it on my Tilt with stock ROM. When sending a new sms or replying to one, the screen defaults below the address part onto the bottom of the text portion of the screen. I know this is a reg hack that is needed, but for the life of me I can not find it in a search. This was a common problem on the 8525's after a certain ROM upgrade if anyone remembers.
you mean where it cuts off the person's info you are replying to?
Yeah its annoying!
Doesn't cut it out, but when you open the window to reply, it defaults to only showing the text area, and uses the bottom part of the screen as the point that it sets to show. Thus, the top part of the text reply window is off the screen.
And yes, it is very annoying. I gotta find the reg hack to fix this!
As I recall it happens when the reg is set to use the right and left nav buttons to page down when using IE, it causes the sms to open at the bottom of the screen and you have to scroll back.
This question was asked by another Kaiser user.....guess you guys have all been busy flashing ROMs
The answer IS a reg hack, and here's a link to the reply I posted - the OP hasn't responded to say whether the problem is now cured, but if it's the same issue I experienced on my Hermes, the above answer will work.
Post back....I'd like to know if it works (I'll be getting my Kaiser next month, so this will be something to add to the "Tips and Tricks" document I'm compiling from everyone else's posts )
Cheers,
Mark.
My reg value is already set to 1 in this file. So, only option, set to 0 and lets see what happens!
Was just skimming through some threads and stumbled upon this. That problem was driving me crazy but i hadn't gotten to the point of searching for a solution yet.
This worked for me on my Hermes.
Thanks ^_^

Are you referring to the hack listed in the response above? Because on the Tytn II this value is already set as stated in that thread.
No this is not the same issue the Hermes had when you set the D pad to scroll in IE that issue was the "text curser" would be all the way at the bottom of a screen no matter what cutting off half of emails and what ever else text was sent to you. there is nothing to fix this issue as of now. BUT when I compose a new SMS it ALWAYS starts at the address line not sure why your don't
After having a Touch a few months back, i thought the Diamond would be a breeze. NO such luck in my experience.
For example. On the main home screen. How do you edit that so it's just the clock or, to add more to the list that currently shows calendar and call history? I can't find any way to do this so if you can enlighten me, i'd really appreciate it.
What about when texting? Is there any way to make the keypad a different size? Personally i can't find a way to edit that. It's annoying that after adding your contacts name, you seemingly have 90% of the screen filled with the entry system and you have to mess about to get to the message section of the screen. Guessing i've missed something somewhere!
Zooming in on a photo... how is that done? Orange's CD ROM User Manual is vague to say the least so if you can assist here to, please do.
This thread could become a handy hints and tips chart for beginners if all feedback is good so if you have a question or some simple advice for settings and the way to go around things, chuck a note in and someone will be very happy to see the reply
1) Well if u flick ur finger in an upward motion on the home screen u'll notice the clock becoming smaller and will list all the list all ur appointments from ur calendar...
2) If u are not satisfied in the HTC Keyboard, u will need to look into other keyboards my fav personally is Touchpal from Cootek and there is even resco keyboard which is pretty gud.
3) You can only zoom in a picture when u r in the HTC Album, in order to zoom you will need to rotate your finger clockwise or anti-clockwise i am always forget which is for zooming so u will need chk tht out...
I hope these tips helps u out....

Hmmmmmm, i see. Shame that somehow we can't take the good things from the Touch like the Home screen as standard and have them in the 3D instead. If any cab compilers are reading this, maybe it's something that could be done?
Along those lines, maybe someone could rip out the original texting keyboard, the smaller more compact one... better for stylus use and enables you to see more screen. I HATE the big finger pad they've put on the Diamond. Is is really necessary to have it that big? Surely if you're going to use the stylus (i mean if HTC didn't want us to use one, then ALL the functions and menus would be larger, yes?), then why provide us with one in the first place?!?!!

There are multiple SIPs already built into the Diamond. Holding your finger or stylus on the small arrow next to the keypad button when input is allowed will display the menu, from there you can select the Windows SIP which is tiny and stylus friendly...
Reading the manual is a good idea before posting dude. Or even a search

Well thanks for that reply. I'll have a mess about with that one.
That took no time at all. NO WINDOWS SIP on my handset. All i have are the following... BLOCK, COMPACT, FULL, KEYBOARD, LETTER, PHONEPAD and TRANSCRIBER *sigh*
What bloody version have you got?!?!!
Oh and for the record Mr Read-The-Text-Provided (lol)... did i not say this? ---> Orange's CD ROM User Manual is vague to say the least so if you can assist here to, please do.
Hmmmmm, i think i did!
Ok... answer this one then. Every other HTC phone i have had has done this but not on the Diamond. When you receive a simple thing like an mms or a text, the screen lights to give a clue in case you never heard the message laert. How you you activate THAT cus i'm not seeing how it'ds done anywhere.
Clues please?
I agree - the 'manual/instructions' Orange sent were non-existent and as a first time PPC user I was totally lost until I had a nosey around here and to be fair am still learning all what this phone can do!

Install Diamond Tweak, which is available here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=409540
and that gives you the option to enable this feature. (along with tons of other tweaks to!)
Hope this helps!

Oh i can answer what it can do for you in one simple phrase mate. It can screw ya head up!
HTC want a good kicking if you ask me. The thing as I see it is this. If they'd have kept the basics as it was on the Kaiser (Tytn II) and THEN added the 3D, all would have been superb.
As for Orange... well, nuff said

It comes under 'Wake on New Sms'
A wee bit of advice, there are loads of people on here who will always be glad to help, but the tone of your posts is not one which will make folk jump to help you

Thanks for that chap. My tone? Oh well if i've offended anyone then i apologise. I'm just a bit jumpy when things don't go according to plan and my comments come over as slightly abrasive when in fact, they're supposed to come over as a normal question but in a jokey type manner. I get that in a face to face sitation to so i know exactly what you're saying.
Again, thanks for the reply though. Much appreciated
I have some minor problems with my Kaiser and after searching the forum I'm really tired now, so please if you are willing to help, than do it. If not, than just don't post here and move along, thanks.
Yes, I used Google to search the forum and I have several registry tweakers.
1. How to remove the operator logo from the dialler screen? I mean not change it, remove and thus free the space it occupies.
2. How to replace the dialler keypad with a smaller keypad or a keyboard? Or at least make the keypad hidden.
3. I like the SMS delivery notification, but my old SE K750 is has so that the messages are just noted as delivered, no delivery SMS arrives, this is much more convenient.
4. How to make SMS the default messaging method rather than MMS?
5. This one really annoys me - How to ger rid of constant Connectivity warnings in the upper tab? They are sometimes noted as "E" icons, sometimes "G".
6. How to remove the connection sound, I mean when the Kaiser connects with ActiveSync?
Thanks for your help, moving from Palm is a real shock.
p.s.: If you feel very generous, please recommend your favourite skinning/HTC Home adjusting application. I already have HTC Home Customizer, but I find it not powerful enough. And as a task swithich I use Magic Button, is there anything better?

Good idea, I'v always searched through forums.
Hey all,
Got my new diamond. Love it to bits. Only one bit that's started to drive me round the bend. There must be a solution somewhere.....
I was quite pleased to see the text message conversation feature - you know the one where you can type beneath a text you've recieved to reply and reffer to the previous text as you're doing so, also if you scroll up you'll see your whole convo with that contact. Nice feature....
However:
The window for replying in is SO SMALL that I can't actually read what I'm typing. I get almost the lenght of a whole letter in it so i can kind of read a few words but scrolling is impossible.
The scroll up and down arrows are right next to each other.
It's highly impractical and almost impossible to use. Worst when keyboard and T9 are activated.
Anyone know how to fix this?
I tried clicking on the black divider line between the original message and the reply you're typing and dragging it up.
No luck....
All help greatfully recieved (doubtless I'm missing something?)
There is a solution (have you searched?)
You need to edit thread_sms.htm in the windows folder. You'll need to use Total Commander to edit the file because it's a protected ROM file.
Or just use the newer, smaller keyboards that are just as practical and take less of the screen.

Not sure which keyboards you mean but it won't help since the reply section of the page is a fixed height. Altering it so that you can see more than one line of the reply can be very useful.
On the subject of keyboards, I want to recommend TouchPal (again) - not only is the keypad resizable (by dragging), it has better T9 input and the word candidates don't stick up above the top of the keyboard. This means the window resizing works properly and it doesn't have the bug on tapping the screen when selecting a candidate in Opera.

I think he's referring to new the keyboard in the 2.00.421.1 Diamond ROM image. pistonripper has cooked a custom, lightweight version.

Yep searched google repeatedly before I came here. Figured google would turn results up from here but hey, could just be my dyslexia. Thanks for the help. I'll see what I can find on here about total commander and thread_sms.htm to figure it out.
Wish me luck
Thanks a lot guys! That solved it I REALLY appreciate the help.
If anyone else has the same problem it's as the guys said: google 'total commander pda' get the .cab file from their site (you want the Pocket PC one obviously).
Install it by popping it on your diamond and clicking it on file explorer.
Then use the file menu to search for 'thread_sms.htm'
When it shows up click the edit button (first icon, the one to the right of the word 'show' bit of paper with a pen next to it).
I changed the height on one of the lines contained 'composesubject' and width 98% from 35 up to 70. Saved and went back into sms.
Tada.
Beutiful three lines.
Thanks again to all who helped and search for thread_sms.htm on this site if you need more help as a lot of the guys have solved it.
Lastly for the google folks here are a few words that might help them find this:
diamond sms window screen too small one line tiny conversation text message reply can't read
Nice one
Anyone have the problem where when you select a contact and then text it takes 2-5 seconds to load the screen with the cursor? And the cursor itself is pretty slow to get input from the keyboard.
I'm pretty sure my keyboard itself needs cleaning as I've seen in other threads. However in Win 6.1 and now 6.5 with autocomplete of sentences on or off I still see the huge delay before I can type. Something feels wrong about this, anyone else experience this and have any advice?
usually turning off any autocomplete or t9 should speed up typing delay
well - stuff like that happens in Windows Mobile
theres a registry cab file somewhere here that fixes this.. do a search
Hmm yeah I have text correction set to None so no prediction or sugesstion.
I'm running windows mobile 6.5 is there anywhere else I could go.
Just counted now and from the time the screen acknowledge my click on text to the white screen and cursor loading is 7 seconds. My god windows mobile grrrr!
Everything else on the phone is pretty fast but wow 7 seconds!
royalbloodvi - I replied this morning before seeing your reply.
I've looked for cabs, registry tweak etc searching here and on google and I haven't had any luck. I've tried w/o quotes stuff like "SMS slow registry tweak" "txt slow" etc etc but no luck any pointers?

LOL. You're a funny man... telling him to "do a search" after all those ****worthy threads You've started.
anyway...
I don't know if it's going to work for You mate, but worked like a charm on my tytn 2 back in the past.
Hey, not sure if you tried this, but there's also a cab, or registry hack which disables the text "counter" in sms which also decreases the delay.
Here's there XDA thread which links to the original posting at ppcgeeks:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581901
I have it cooked into my rom and it does help. I don't even miss the counter cause everyone I know either has unlimited text, or doesn't text at all.
Also, whenever you want to send a text make sure your Xperia is in landscape before going into the sms program or hitting reply. It helps a bit there too.
hope all that helps.
peace

yea thats the one..
Thanks I ran the cab and followed the directions about thread_sms.htm
All I saw in thread_sms.htm was <Inbox:ComposeBodyCount> which I assume is not the count of characters and my unexperia rom already removed that.
Having it in landscape mode prior to clicking someone's name definitely helps although first time I do it there's still some 5 secs or so of delay. But if I go back to another contact there's none. I'll keep playing a bit but thanks much better.
Day by day I will actually make my phone usable!
Edit: Also it's great how original X1 users have to wait and use cooked roms to get features from X2 to actually make the X1 "ok"
