don't use the camera often, but recently, I found when taking a picture, all is normal, good scene on screen, autofocus, etc and when I shoot the picture, it does not save. Running a Tilt, stock ROM, and have tried various camera/album combinations trying to find one that works. Currently with Navadi version 5. Interestingly enough, I can take video and it works well, just will not save still photos. Camera program sees my storage card, everything seems normal, except no photo file after snapping the shot. I am out of ideas.
i think it is saving them to the dcim folder on ur sd card
Nope, nothing there. It does not even go through the usual motions of freezing the frame for a second while saving. I have scoured the phone and card and find nothing.
Fire up schaps advanced config, check the "Save location" under "Camera" and "Default storage locatin for images" under "Locations".
By combining the two you should be able to find it. I left the DCIM option on once and took me ages to find the photo, but it was in a DCIM folder on my storage card, somewhere...
Also,
Use total commander or resco file explorer to search for the files. *.jpg for example

Thanks, already tried all of that, seems there is either a software or hardware issue with saving pictures. I am beginning to believe it is a hardware issue, although a curious one indeed. I am pretty good with these devices and this one has me stumped, never lost to a computer yet, though. If it is a hardware issue, maybe tough to fix.
I have a similar problem: taking pictures works fine and it saves them in the correct folder on my storage card, as I set it in Advanced Config.
But whenever I take a GPS photo, I can't find the pictures anywhere. Are GPS photos being saved somewhere else I don't know about? If so, does anyone know which folder they're saved to? If not, has anyone else had this particular problem?

The GPS photos are stored in \My Documents\My POI (or \Storage Card\My Documents\My POI if you've chosen to store your pictures on your SD card).

I've had similar issues with mine (also running the stock AT&T ROM). What I've found is that the "press halfway to autofocus, but all the way to take the picture" thing often makes me believe that I've taken the picture, when I haven't. If I am more careful about pushing the button in all the way, it'll take the photo and save it.

Yes, I actually found out about the same time you posted this reply.
Thanks for your help!
Possibly related issue: My tilt camera will save fine to device storage, but if I tell it to save to the SD card, I get nothing. If I catch the photo while it is displayed for review, and click the mail button, I can send it in an email. Even stranger, if I take a jpeg, and copy/paste it to the DCIM folder, it never appears, but I can write to other parts of the card fine.
I think this is a software problem, not hardware.
EDIT:
Found solution on another thread. Camera dosen't like folders created already on the card, so to solve, just delete the DCIM folder, and restart camera.
Hi there!
I'm having a problem with the phone storage, not the internal 4gb storage...
The phone storage is at 0.20 mb (free!), but i don't really know why! On Saturday there were about 20 mb of free storage, but now they are gone ... I didn't install any programms, just looked a few videos with the youtube player and played around with some pictures that where sent as an email attachement (2 mb per picture) and suddenly the phone tells me "memory is low". i tried the sktools "clean" tool, but i'm not quite sure what i can delete without killing my pim data and so on. Is there anyway to figure out which application keeps all the information stored that killed my storage?!
I looked through the phone folders in the explorer on my pc, but i can't say
where the lost storage is located
any ideas on this !?
Thanks in advance
André
Maybe browser cache-data is filling it up? checked temp folders? 0,20MB sounds weird tho. What ROM are you using?
i searched all the tempfolders (hopefully i found them all ) but there aren't any large tempfiles or so ...
is there any specific folder you want me to have a closer look at?
i'm using the original o2 rom (1.37.207.2 GER)
Make a hard reboot and choose the 2nd option in the hard reboot menu
i'll give it a try the next few days and keep you informed
thnx!
before hard reset use sktools and do a complete clean
Why don't you see in your system settings menu, click memorry.
There you find a 'link' which gives you the option to search for big size files that fill up your memory.
too bad it doens't find many small files
The G1 has a silence mode, but it unfortunately only silences ringers and notifications. If I want to play a game of Solitaire I am blasted in the face with stupidly loud music. Is there a system-wide switch to just disable ALL sound through the built in speaker?
Go to setting -> sounds & display -> media volume bring then it all the was down you should be able to map a. Shortcut to this with anycut.
Hope this helps
Ringtone/Notification Questions
Is there any way to put your own ringtones on the phone through a storage card like on the wing or other windows mobile phones, I just got the phone and am playing with it right now ad so far don't see no way to do this. If there's a way can someone please help.
I added 2 tones from my wing to the memory card from the G1. Placed them on the root of the card and then installed from the market "Rings Extended". Then selected them.
download the rings extended app. that will let you do what you want.
google market: rings extended
+1 rings extended.
I had a stale page load and the two previous posters beat me to it!
-- edit --
also, fwiw, with 'rings extended' I found that the media listing was recursive as I had an entire directory structure from my wm6 phone. So, you can still have categorized directory structures if you like.
if you use the correct folder structure there will be no problems setting up the ringtones

there's a thread with that in it, I don't remember where.
If someone finds the thread for the correct folder structure please let me know, and neiltoe idk how to put it in the root folder market extended, I'm coming from a wing and I had a 2gb storage card for the wing so I took the card out my wing and put it in the g1 it sound like the way u do it neiltoe u have to keep the 1gb storage card.
hopefully this link works:

Alternatively you can just go to the music player, choose a song and press " use as ringtone".
First off, what helped me the most- connect the phone to a pc and enable the usb on the g1. When it pops up (it will look like a mass storage device on the pc) format it and then create these folders at the root of the storage card:
music
ringtones
alerts
notifications
Anything inside music will show up on the music player. Anything outside should not show up anywhere but where it is placed. If you do not format the card first, this will not be the case at least in my experience. Formatting seems to make it all work right.
The folder structure is taken from the tmobile website online instruction manual- cant remember the page

While true, it also means you may have a bunch of ringtones and alerts mixed in with your music, something I dont like
for the record:
/sdcard/media/audio/ringones
etc
works as well, as does
/sdcard/media/video
for video files.
good to know about the alternative folder layouts
what are you using to play video files? I grabbed the "video player" on the market but curious to know what others are using.
Thanks a lot guys, you were very helpful.

put stuff into the folders. uncheck the USB box on the phone (you lose the PC connection at that point). Now your phone can find stuff.

i had the wing. i took my 2GB card and put it in the g1. i connected it to my pc running xp and changed the names of my folders to what was recommended. maybe i should have made new folders altogether is the issue? i can try that. anyway... it's not working... i go into settings to set ringtones and i cant set anything except the stock ones.
is the issue that i didnt make brand new folders and just changes the names?
or do i need to take everything off the card, reformat it, and start fresh?

in my experience, this is exactly what you need to do. Format it on the pc while its in the phone using the data cable.
make "Picures and Videos" automatically open to the storage card rather than to the device? I store all of my media on the card (like everybody does), and therefore "Pictures and Videos" requires several steps for me to get to my media collection. Very annoying!!!
I am running Win Mo 6.1 on the AT&T Tilt. I really don't want to change my rom since I'm a newbie and am satisfied with the AT&T rom minus the bloatware.
Thanks.

You need Kaiser Tweak. Under option Locations: and Camera: you can set up the default destination folders. Google "KaiserTweak-nikagl-080307-0912.cab".
Hope that helps.
That doesn't work for me.
I have KaiserTweak. I am already saving pictures to my storage card. However, when I open "Pictures", "Videos", or "Pictures and Videos", the first place the application tries to search is the device not the card. I have to go through a series of taps to get to my media.
This sucks.
I downloaded S2V, and it's pretty good for browsing through thumbnails of my pictures. It remembers and opens the last folder I explored.
If I could find a similar program for browsing through thumbnails of my videos. I'd be in business.
Thanks.
Use Schap's AdvancedConfig, Change Default Picture Location to you Storage Card. That's how I got it to do that before I started using Manilla.
Didn't work for me.
My phone was already set to save pics, audio, and video to the card. I reselcted the card and did a soft reset, but the program "Pictures and Videos" still looks on the device first, requiring multiple taps to get to my media collection. Thanks anyway.
Anybody know where I can download or make some themes for the camera? My phone has two, but I'd like some more...
Any ideas?
Thanks!
i was planning to make some lately as i couldnt find anything on the web myself
but it might take a while as im a bit busy now
by the way for those who want to know default storage location for these themes is \My Documents\Templates
Well I just tried a bunch of templates I used a while ago and they don't work. I even tried some from the http://xda-v.6te.net website, but still nothing. Copied them to my \My Documents\Templates folder, but the camera does not recognise them, I can't even see them in Options -> templates menu. Any ideas?
Templates folder in options is set to Main mem and card as well.
bump! I know it ain't something urgent but I'd really like to be able to add some more camera templates
