I NEED your HELP... (SURVEY) - Off-topic

My wife and I have an online store and want to drive more traffic to our site. We are creating coupons that you may redeem online only. Having said that, would you rather (if purchasing an item ~$30.00 USD) . . .
(A) 10% off coupon on your next purchase.
(B) Free shipping on your next purchase.
(C) Other.

well first off, i live so far away that it doesn't matter to me, but i think that the decision would be easier if i had an idea of what it is you sell.
ie free shipping means nothing on something which would fit into a flat envelope, and 10% off a next purchase wouldn't be great if the product costs $$$s to ship etc.
or if the products are a thing you may want more than one of then a 3 for 2 offer (or similar) or buy this and something free
but anyway i would prefer free shipping, it makes it so much easier to search and buy online, and i hate having to search a site for a product and then search the same site to find the shipping costs

Honestly, I tend to shop at stores that offer free shipping. Or Free Shipping with $50 order or whatever. I hate getting my cart all ready and Thinking, "Cool $99.98." Then Going to check out and getting charged $128.56

we typically charge $5.00 flat rate for shipping. we can't simply increase our price on all our products to always have "free shipping." so we're thinking about adding coupons to the shipping boxes to increase traffic to our site and/or repeat customers.

Best place to by a TyTN II? (in the US)

Hi I’ve been angsting over which device to buy and finally decided on the tytnii so now I’ve been searching around for good places to buy it (at good prices). Places like expansys seem to be out (horrible reviews) and most other places seem to be selling it in the mid $700 range. Amazon seems to be the best bet at the moment (not ideal but can settle) however I wanted to check and see if anyone else could recommend any better places for cheaper prices.
A wee bit of background. I’m working in Afghanistan at the moment, will be going back to the states in about a week (then coming back to Afg). Sh*t happens here so it seems like getting a warranty/insurance would be a good idea (looking at squaretrade.com at the moment) which would set me back an additional $180 or so.
Any suggestions on getting a phone for a better price, insurance, etc would really be appreciated!
Cheers
-Gaiko
You didn't mention who your provider is. If you have ATT you can get them new for $549.99 (retail price) and if you don't mind signing a 2 year contract on the line you can get a good deal below:
New ($299):
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...etails/?device=AT&T+Tilt(TM)&q_sku=sku1060009
Refurbished (149.99):
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...s/?device=AT&T+Tilt+(Refurb)&q_sku=sku1190046
As for insurance I've seen this place recommended a lot:
http://www.safeware.com/
if u r going to sign 2yr than get from amazon.com as they have fantastic prices.
p.s. i got mine for 75 after 50.00 mail in rebate w/2yr.
Amazon has a great price, but the fine print. Conditional $250 Discount
The Price listed above for this phone includes an instant $250 discount from Amazon.com. You agree to repay this $250 discount to Amazon.com if, during the six-month period following the activation date or renewal date of your existing contract, you: (1) fail to pay your balance due each month on time; (2) fail to maintain your account in good standing; (3) disconnect the line of service; (4) transfer the phone to another line of service; (5) change your service rate plan, including canceling or removing required PDA, BlackBerry, or smartphone features after your product has shipped; or (6) use this line of service to replace an existing account with the carrier. The discount is available only if you are activating a new non-substitute line of service or extending an existing line of service. If you do not follow these rules, you authorize Amazon.com to charge your credit card $250 as reimbursement of the discount without need for further approval."
I would stick with AT&T.

Hidden Fees

Did anyone else find it interesting that there is an extra $20 to the price in tax and shipping? Now maybe its just me but I feel if you spend more that $100 for a small item online shipping should be free. And $13 what is that google trying to recoup some of the profit margin. I could ship it myself for under 10 2 day from USPS and they probably get a discount for mass shipping. Dont get me wrong I still ordered it, Im just slightly frustrated with how they worked out the price.
tax is normal .
shipping 13 bucks, thats fine..
Google isnt amazon

They aren't "hidden fees", they are tax and shipping... just as stated. Hidden fees are things like a $30 "upgrade" fee that is not obviously stated but will show up on your Verizon bill when you agree to a new 2 year contract for them. Tax and shipping are fees for the taxes that are obligatory and to cover the cost of packing and shipping the product. The Nexus 7 is being practically sold at cost as-is, so complaining about a small shipping fee is a bit uncalled for.
The fact that Amazon has gotten away with not charging tax for all of these years is mind-boggling, I guarantee has a lot to do with political lobbying and strong-arming. Don't get used to it, as they will soon (rightfully) have to charge tax and submit it to states. Google rightfully collecting and submitting sales tax is a sign that they are a company that tries to do the right thing, that's welcome in this day and age.
Nothing hidden about it...you get full disclosure of it and you don't have to buy if you think it's absurd.
Hidden may not be the best word. But I think they are pocketing some money from the shipping charge. There is no way it cost that much to send, to me its a crafty way to make the MSRP lower.
Mine was 94 cents tax (Kinda weird) and 13 dollars shipping.

They do two-day shipping. I can't quote all of the costs, but I will see that a flat-rate Priority Mail box from USPS costs $16.95 these days. Shipping isn't cheap, unless you are Amazon and can negotiate a deal based on the fact that you will be shipping 10s of thousands of products every day.

exactly. not unreasonable at all. i would gladly pay a little extra on shipping so my device isnt destroyed in transit.
When they are selling a device at pretty much cost price I think $20 on shipping and tax is more than fair enough..its better than the $200 profit apple wack on each ipad.
Stop complaining its a bloody good deal!
I would be fine with the extra shipping and taxes and stuff, but I've never seen Arizona tax anything I've bought anything online, yet because of the tax it took my $250 tablet plus $13.99 shipping and made it $280. That seems a little much for me, though I did buy the device.

That's because states don't collect sales tax, retailers do (are suppose to anyway), but only if they have a nexus (ha!) in the state.
I didn't have to pay sales tax on mine... just shipping and $13 isn't bad.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Canada (Ontario) pricing:
Nexus 7 (16GB) $259.00
Shipping: $19.99
Tax: $33.67
Total: $312.66
Mine was
Nexus 7 (16GB)
$249.00
Shipping (Two Day Shipping):
$13.99
Tax:
$18.41
Total:
$281.40
Shipping price seems fair and taxes are, well, taxes . . .
Some of that cost will be offset by the $25 credit for apps.
Seeing as the amount of money I save in shipping with amazon prime I think I can handle at most $30 in taxes and shipping

Hidden fees lol don't be a salty consumer!
Gamestop
I pre-ordered at game-stop, just because of that.
Same deal, movie, book and 25 bucks, but I'll save a little bit on shipping.
I haven't been quite this excited about a tech product since I bought my skinny Mac in 1984. I was a bit disappointed in the extra fees, but it's hard to be upset about it. It's a way better deal than my puke green Mac was!
Paying $229.50 for the eight gigabyte joint. Texas has taxes.

I hear you man, I am ridiculously excited for this thing. I already have a 4.7" Android phone and an iPad 3 but knowing I have this thing coming brings an ear to ear grin to my face every time I think about it.

Tiger Direct Bundle Deal

Some one asked about this in the Best Buy thread, but I thought it may be worthy of another thread.
Tiger Direct has several bundles which throw in a free book cover and 16GB microsd. To sweeten the deal, they also have a $20 mail in rebate, and if you have an American Express you may qualify for an extra $15 off. This is a pretty good deal if Tiger Direct doesn't charge tax in your state.
Here's links to more info:
Tiger Direct
$20 Mail in Rebate
$15 Amex offer
After using the tab for about half a day now, I've had some laginess issues which I believe may be due to the Exynos processor-- but I love the screen so much it is worth the compromise.

[Q] Google Play app VAT/Sales Tax

**Really sorry if I shouldn't have asked a question here, but wherever I try to post it, it pops up with a message saying it's not a Q&A forum, but I can't see where I should put it, plus the answer would be really useful to others I should imagine**
Hi
Just over a week ago I released my first Android app, I made an ad supported free version, and a paid version with no ads in it.
Since having a look around the settings in my Google Merchant account, I discovered a section about setting tax rates for my apps.
I have been through the hassle of getting the rates for each country I want my apps sold in.
I am wondering whether that was the correct thing to do, I have seen things on various forums saying I don't need to collect VAT unless I earn over £81,000 (I'm in the UK btw, and I'd be quite happy to make £100), others have said only put in the tax rate for the country which I'm selling from, others have said input for every country selling to.
I'm confused as to which I should have done.
Also, I saw that it said that Google will take the VAT off the gross price, then take their 30% off the net price, they will then pass on the gross price minus their cut, e.g.:
if app is £1
UK VAT is 20% so £1 minus 20% is £0.80
Google will take 30% of the £0.80, so this would be £0.24
They will then pass on the gross price minus their cut, so pass on £0.76
The way I read that I have £0.20 which is VAT sitting in my bank account, am I supposed to pay this in somehow, even if I'm not VAT registered, do I have to do that for every country around the world that I sell my apps to? And can I pay it all to the UK government or do I have to pay each relevant government their cut?
It's only a 69p app, I'm an unknown, I don't expect it to make huge amounts of money, I just wanted to learn and see how far I could get, might even look good on my CV, but the "paperwork" side of getting this thing up and running has been a headache.
For a multi billion dollar company, I think Google have done a really bad job of trying to encourage people that aren't part of large companies to develop apps, Apple deal with it all for you!
Money Saving Expert (great UK forum for anything to do with money have answered the question for me, as being a No don't put tax rates on as charging VAT when not VAT registered (due to being below the threshold) is fraud
I'm from Italy and I'm blocked on this question too.
Is there somebody who knows The Answer?

Buy a Motomod, get free projector on Verizon! Get a case and projector for under $40

Verizon has an online deal at the moment where the Moto Insta-Share Projector is free when you purchase any Moto-Mod!
The cheapest Moto-Mod available that is in-stock is the Kate Spade Style Shell for $39.99. Plus shipping is FREE.
https://www.verizonwireless.com/accessories/moto-mods/
Notes:
* You do not need to have a Verizon phone to purchase accessories on the Verizon site.
* This CAN be combined with an employee discount if you currently get a discount on your Verizon bill through your employer, however you may need to add it to your cart BEFORE you log in, otherwise it may only show a 25% discount instead of the free projector offer. With my employee discount the case is only $29.99. Not all employee discounts include discounts on accessories.

This is a really good deal, but I'm having a hard time imagining what I would actually use this for.
