IMAP doesn't seem to work in any of the WM6.1 ROMS. Anyone know how to work around this?
I'm having my mail account configured using IMAP and it works without problems (WM6.1 Lite). I also had it with 6.1 "full" and WM6.
Whenever I setup a new email address it doesn't give me the option to NOT automatically get settings from the server for Gmail.
To make it work with Gmail you have to not use the default settings. I had it working just fine with WM6. Any ideas?

With the wm6.1 versions floating around there is no "check box" - that's the problem.
To resolve, you need to enter in a bogus (or incomplete) domain name for your email address in order to "fool" it and stop the auto pop3 config. then you can choose imap and afterward go back and correct the domain.
Are you talking about for exchange or for just a normal Outlook Mobile email that I added? Whenever I add a new email address through Outlook it doesn't ask for a doman.
Can you explain in more detail maybe??
Edit: I tried the bogus domain thing and it didn't work. Hmmm, this is pretty crappy. Unless there's a fix I might have to to back to my old ROM, cause the main reason I have a Treo is for email :/.
I don't have wm6.1 anymore (the version I was using was not ready for primetime IMO). But when asked for your email address (the first step I believe), do not put @gmail.com, instead make it gmai.com (not the missing 'L') then proceed through inputing everything else correctly, at some point you'll be asked for the mailbox type (drop down of pop or imap). Choose IMAP and carry on to finish. then go back in and correct your email address. synch your mailbox...

I just flashed Dutty's Rom and when I am trying to setup Push Email I am being prompted for a "Device Address" which is either a sms address or a "corporate service provider" I've never had to input this information before.
What do i need to input here?

I'm suing activesync and my companies OWA site.
What do you mean by setting it up through OWA? I also have push email and the only info I needed were the server address, my username, pass and port settings.
Can you tell me were exactly the question is asked? I also have Dutty's ROM running, and I want to test if I get the same question. That way I might be able to help you.
If you're trying to use OWA on the Kaiser, try OMA (Outlook Mobile Access). But I think I just misunderstood your question...
You get that question IF you set up your exchange server to also be able to send notifications on SMS.
Unless you need that feature - turn it off in exchange server.

where do i make this change? its a corporate server, so if its server side I'll just have to live with it I guess.

I go to ActiveSync on the phone, then select Menu, and select configure server.
it asks for server address, which i input., Then I hit next,
then eneter my user name, password, and domain, then select next.
Then i chosoe the data i wanted synhronized.
Then hit finish.
I then go to "Schedule", i select the sync during peak times and off peak times settings. and then at teh bottom of the screen i get adjust peak times, and "when new items arrive" both underlined.
I select when new items arrive and this is where it then asks me for my service provider.
That's strange. I use push email and never ran into this problem (AT&T as well). I go through "Mail->Set up new account", but going through ActiveSync should be the same. Make sure your AT&T connection parameters are configured. For me it always happens automatically (with Dutty's and most other ROMs).
Just thinking here: What version of Exchange server are you using? Push Email wasn't introduced since the introduction of AKU2 service pack for Exchange 2003. Could it be that your company is using an older version of Exchange?

Its server side yes.
You should contact your IT-administrator and ask him to investigate this for you.
Its probably just a permission issue.
You could set your activesync manually to be 100% sure.
By unchecking the "look for settings automatically" in the beginning of the activesync wizzard.
That way you are sure you reach the correct mail server.
I have received a HTC TYTN II from my company, which currently is synching with our mailserver so that I can read my email wherever I am.
Since I'm curious, I tried to get my old Wizard to do the same. I did the same install as with the Kaiser, but I get the dreaded "0x85010004". I scanned thru the Kaisers registry and took all root-certificates under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Security\SystemCertificates" and imported them into the Wizard and rebooted, but no luck. I am assuming it's a certificate of some kind that is missing, but I can't find where else it could be? Does Exchange install a hidden certificate on the phone in order to identify it, and if so - why isn't it shown in the certificates menu?
Any help is appreciated.

activesync cert with exchange

activesync accessing exchange on a mobile device uses OWA (outlook web access) to access your email through SSL. the best way to get the cert you need is to log into your OWA (probably something like https://webmail.yourcompanyname.com) or whatever it is (it's the same address you use when you put in when confiigure exchange with activesync) from a desktop pc. than, right click on a blank portion of the page and go to properties. you should see a button that says certificates, click on that, than click on the details tab. than click on the "copy to file" button and the cert export wizard will start. click next, than select base64 as the type of cert, than hit next, name it, save it, put it on a memory card or bluetooth the file to your phone and install it. sometimes, during the install, your phone will error out when installing it, just soft reset, and then install it again. you should get a message that says it was installed successfully. than configure for activesync for exchange on your phone and you should be all good. let me know if that works for you.

Tried that and got the same problem. The original phone has Pointsec installed in it, but I do not think that it gerenates any certificates (at least not any I have found in the registry). Is the ACU version important?

Talked to my IT department and they told me that Pointsec decodes a certificate in order to communicate with our mailservers. Anyone any good at pointsec and knows if it puts a crypto on the Registry or if it is purly file based? If the file is decrypted each time I punch in my code, it should register the time when the file is being decrypted... What programs can search files in WM and search for the time stamp?

I have an AT&T Tilt. I had Direct Push from Exchange Server working perfectly with no effort - was working for months. Then, I had a hardware problem with that phone and was given a replacement from AT&T. After replacing it I am unable to configure the direct push any more. I wrote down all the settings and carefully reapplied them on the new phone.
What I am seeing now is when manually invoking a send/receive, ActiveSync reports the following:

I'm not too sure about your pointsec fredrick, as we don't use it on our mobile devices at work, but we do use it on our computers. as far as i know, pointsec is supposedly suppose to be transparent encrypt/decrypt after you first turn on your device and enter a passcode, heck, windows mobile should operate like pointsec isn't even on the device, so it shouldn't be a cert issue, but who knows, i never liked pointsec anyway. sorry i can't be more helpful.

that error message is pretty straight forward, either the OWA address is wrong or your certificate isn't installed correctly. i know this sounds lame, but if you can, borrow a friend's Windows Mobile phone and config it with activesync to verify your settings are correct. for the owa address, try adding "/exchange" without the quotes at the end, maybe their redirect isn't working correctly. so if your server address is "https://webmail.hostedexchange.com", make it look like "https://webmail.hostedexchange.com/exchange" (that should take you to directly to the exchange server without using their redirect). if you want, you can also try downloading the certificate directly from your hosted exchange guys, if they have the cert page up that is (most exchange admins leave it up, i know we do =P ) to get to the cert page, go to a desktop pc...
1. type in your webmail server address and add "/certsrv" at the end without the quotes (ie; "https://webmail.hostedguys.com/certsrv"
2. it will prompt you for a username, it should be in the following format "domain\username", so if my domain was microsoft, and my username was bill, than my username would be "microsoft\bill" without the quotes
3. enter your password.
4. click on the last link, "download a certificate, certificate chain, etc"
5. select the base 64 encoding method and than click download CA certificate.
6. save it to a memory card or bluetooth it over to your phone and install it.

oh... and one more thing about your server address, it could be different than adding "/exchange" at the end, to verify, just to your webmail and see wear it redirects, when you get to your login page (if using forms based authentication), use that address, if not using forms based, (small popup window for login) just log in and than use that address.

I got it working. The error message was pretty close to telling me that it's an invalid server "name". My hosted exchange provider uses owa3.... I was missing the all-important 3.
No matter how hard they try, programmers can't make it completely idiot proof...
All is working now beautifully. Thanks much for the suggestsions.

Have you tried all the steps in this thread already? make sure you have installed the correct certificate, have the correct server address and ask your administrator if activesync is enabled on the exchange server. post back with your results to the tricks in this thread and we'll see what else you can try.

My phone will only receive emails & will not send them via my ISP settings. I use T-mobile internet & my landline ISP is TalkTalk. I have used the e-mail setup on my phone (Tytn11 Wm6.1) with my ISP's info (POP & smtp settings) & I can receive emails OK but can't send them - I get a message saying 'THE MESSAGE COULD NOT BE SENT. CHECK THAT YOU HAVE NETWORK COVERAGE AND THAT YOUR ACCOUNT INFORMATION IS CORRECT. THEN TRY SENDING AGAIN. Now I have spoken to both T-mobile & TalkTalk, both have said all the settings are correct (which they are as I can receive emails OK). So why can I receive emails but not send them?

Most likley your settings are not correct for your out going mail server
Usualy these things can be the case
a) You havent set for authorisation on your outgoig mail server
b) sometimes out going mail hosts use different ports to the standard 110 therefore would have to be updated in ur Windows Mobile
c) your settings are just plain wrong.
Can you type to me ALL of the settings you were given and I'll take a look at them for you.

I have the same issue with my Tilt as well. I use Cox Isp. I can get my emails, just can't send any.
old issue - same trouble
My settings are in fact correct (we'll just get this one out of the way). The same settings being used on my pc's are working just fine but not on my phone.
I can receive BUT I can't send. I get the same error as "foxes" above.
receiving is via my web based email acct "pop.xxx.com" Works fine for receiving emails.
While I'm on my own home network (lan) I can recieve but I can't send via the phone (but I can on any of the pc's) and the outgoing settings are the same as the pc's "smtp.comcast.net". Yeah, I'm on comcast. Why won't my phone send like the pc's with the same setings? Any Ideas.
Another question I realize is whenever I'm tailgating on any other lan (free wifi access) this setting clearly shouldn't work. Should I then use "smtp.xxx.com" (my own companies web server)? This setting doesn't work while I'm at home even on the pc's it won't work. A
Any ideas on setting this up more universally??
Also, I've tried the port setting idea example "smtp.xxx.com:587". My server requires this port for outgoing. Again this works fine on my pc's but fails on the phone

What port are you using on smtp?
Have you tried either 485 or 465? I read that comcast changed the port in Denver to 485:

change the port to 25 if you are tying to use Tmobile web service.
my pc is setup with
incomming = "pop.XXX.com"
outgoing = "smtp.XXX.com" using port "587"
works great never a problem.
Now, on the same LAN using my tilt with exact same email acct info & pswd and settings
incomming = "pop.XXX.com"
outgoing = "smtp.XXX.com:587"
receives great
send = fails always. The ":587" is the only way I've been told to send using port "587" (or any other port than 25). If there's another way then maybe that's the answer. However, even using "smtp.comcast.net" with no port designation (default 25) wouldn't work even though it would with the pc's and same settings. This is strictly phone issue and frustrating.
I'm using wm6.1 (original). This is strictly via WIFI. The pc's will send just fine but the phone with exact same settings - FAIL.
This is my dilema. Why won't the phone send while using the exact same settings as any PC in my LAN (all send fine).
Again, thanks for the input, but I'm still searching for the answer. Certainly others have had this issue.

you need to log into t-mobile.com find "my email," select "add account," put in your email info. it will give you some server and username info. replace the outgoing (smtp) server and username info with what t-mo.com gives you. leave the password alone. send a test email. half the time this issue is due to the server setup on the provider side.

After all of these posts, what about trying the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Hotfix for sending email actually devised to fix problems under WM 6.1 sending email ?

I know that my ISP does not allow to send via their SMTP server while being off of their network. So I have to use at&t's SMTP server.

Mine seems to be working now since I downloaded & installed this Windows 6.1 Hotfix. I'm still using my ISP incoming server but the t-mobile outgoing server........fantastic!

You'll probably find that patch alone will fix it if the problem is sending email worked initially but then after short while, for no apparent reason it stopped working. It looks like an issue that's been in the xda-dev forums before and I recall this solution doing the trick with others. If installing the patch, soft resetting and testing again doesn't fix it, by all means attempt reconfiguring but it's easier to install the patch first.
Of course I don't need it because the WM 6.0 ROM I use doesn't have this problem only the newly WM 6.1 'upgraded' phones so there's yet another advantage of sticking with WM 6.0
Ok, so I don't know if anyone else is having a problem setting up their HD7 with corporate email (Exchange 2003) but I think I need some help on this one. I have tried some other forums in regards to troublesooting this issue but I still get one error or the other concerning not being able to connect.
Can someone just please tell me what the actual settings on the phone should be?
Username: ??
Password: (obvious)
Domain: ??
Server: ??
Server requires encrypted (SSL) connection (Check or uncheck)
Please I need the actual structure of how these fields should be entered.

What do you mean.. It's pretty straight forward. Did you configure your Exchange server on the Win 6.5 or any other Smart Phone Exchange account?
I personally use the OWA (Outlook Web Access) settings.
For my settings (this is how I log into my OWA)
Username: just my username NOT my entire email (this could be different as per your company's policies).
Password: You should know that
Domain: I have a domain for my work, but I know that it's not always required that you need a domain. I did have to enter a domain at my previous employer.
Server: This is always required. In my case, its the web address that comes after the https:// when I sign into my OWA account.

I have tried that and this is the error I get along with troubleshooting tips that I tried.
"There is a problem with the certificate for mail.mydomain.com. Error Code: 80072F06
I was told to try and retrieve the cert from my IIS and I emailed that to my hotmail and then installed the cert. The problem still persists. I also tried getting a third party root cert as well from www.cacert.org. Same issue.
What do you think the problem can be? And I don't think am the only one with this issue.

I have configured exchange on Win. MO 6.5 on my HTC Touch HD back then and it was a breeze. All I entered was incoming and outgoing set to mail.mydomain.com and that was it.
Apparently its a different ball game with Windows Phone 7.

I'm not sure if that was an exchange account you configured if you had options for incoming and outgoing mail servers. They are usually configured for POP mail accounts.
Sorry it the info wasn't helpful.
It's not really a different game with WP7. The same settings you would use on an iphone/WM6.5/Android is what you would use on a WP7.
As for the cert issue, if you are able to use exchange with any other smartphone OS, you should be able to with WP7.
My problem with exchange/WP7 is that I have to let it fail upon entering username/pw to get it to prompt for the domain. Then I have to let it fail so I can hit the advanced button to enter the servername (typically mail.servername.com).
I would like to be able to enter all 4 fields from the get go.
mail the .cert to your Live account that you use on your phone and open it on the phone click the .cert and it get downloaded , click it again . (it will install the .cert)
then try to setup your exchange again .
after i mail the cert, do I have to delete the account and reenter it or just try to resync or should it matter?
Honestly, this is really kicking my butt. I actually went on our exchange server, went to iis and got the cert off of the EAS and I rebooted my HD7 but no luck. I am going to try and setup the email again and see what happens.

I don't know , but I think it doesn't matter.
Still doesn't work....I am about to start pulling out my hair literally.
If you want a quick and easy solution, buy an actual digitally signed cert from a legit CoA like godaddy and install it on your exchange server. It will help with so many things, and your phone wont ask you for a cert anymore.
But my concern is why we have to go through that because we want to sync a "SMART" phone with corporate email. Really, is it worth buying a cert for that. I mean if Android, BB and Iphone can pull it off without any hassle, why should Microsoft make us go through all that and apparently no one complains much about this which makes it more annoying.
Yes, it is worth buying a cert for it. We're talking 30 bucks or so, and you won't have to rely on your servers self-signed cert. Things like mail.server.com/exchange will work flawlessly on any machine, never asking you to add an exception, etc.
Even if you had NO smartphones, it's a worthy investment, if only to have your mailserver more legit to the interwebs.
So yes, 30 dollars and an hour of your time are most certainly worth it.

It's a total hassle. You have to get a cert to the phone somehow and install it. Put a real cert on your server and you never ever have to do that crap again.
I am having similar problem. I tried the solution and saved the .cer file to HD7, however Exchange server is still not working with the same error

Where the hell do you get exchange cert for 30 bucks? The cheapest i´ve seen was like 200.
OP: you HAVE to import your servers self-issued cert, it won´t work without it, import it, and then do the settings, also make sure that you have activesync enabled on the server´s side.
