Radio Control Issues - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

Hi folks
Just moved on to the Tilt from my trusty wizard 100.
all is good except that unlike the wizard the tilt does not turn off the radio after a program request and uses it.
Example my weather program updates at certain times of the day - it normally would fire up the radio (EDGE or GPRS) and when it is done it disconnects..and all is good.
The tilt does not want to do this... Pesky really as when I awoke this morning It had been on for 6-7 hrs or more.. bummer anyone know of an app or a setting????
Cheers
Bob

If you are looking to shut off the EDGE Connection after use then use KaiserTweak(its in my signature)

Thanks for that I'll give it a try

use a proxy
inactivity when using a proxy server for few minutes disconnects your 3G or Edge so your data disconnects when not needed. you can try that.

WM5 WiFi

Hi guys and girls.
I finally plucked up courage to install WM5 and suprisingly, it worked like a charm! not one single problem
There is one cherry on the top that would be very nice if anyone can help.
On the today screen there is a nice little bluetooth icon in the bottom right hand corner; is there any way to get a wifi icon next to it instead if having to go into start > Settings > connections > WLAN to turn it on?
Appreciate any suggestions offered.
Cheers
J
can someone please send me the orginal wirelessmgr.exe file? i tried to load the wirelessmgr.exe from the universal and now i cant turn wireless on or off
Codiac, I have taken a hotkey (camera, I don't use that much anyway, but any key would do) and mapped that to WLAN_MAN. Works very nicely, but I hope there will be a fix for the dissappearing WLAN (and BT, even though that doesn't matter that much to me since I never turn off the unit when I'm using anything BT) in the near future.
I never thought of that works spot on now
Must remember in future to engage brain before fingers :?
Cheers Mastiff

I added the program into O2plus apps tab

Codiac... how did you get the bluetooth icon on the Today screen? I just upgraded to Mamaich's Patch 5 but I don't have a bluetooth icon
me too..i can't see the bt icon and sometimes i quicly need of it..how can i show it?
Read the Wiki about missing files, patches number 1: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_WM5_Patches_ChangeLog
This is wierd?!?
After I did the upgrade the nice little BT icon was on the today screen, never bothered with it because BT is useless. Read these posts and had a look to see if I could work out how it got there and it has dissapeared?!?
The only thing I can think of is that I accidentally uninstalled one of the patches downloaded from wiki.
ill try and get it back on and let you know how I did it
Cheers
J
OOPs, sorry should have read Mastiffs post properly first
Mastiff is right, you need to install ba_wm5_fix_v1
Cheers
J
Well I've installed the BA_wm5 patch, but still have wifi problems. On 2003 my BA used to turn on wifi every time i turned on the unit, great as i have wifi at home and at work, now it always defaults to off and I have to switch it on every time I've turned off my BA. It's driving me nuts as I use email via wifi at work all day. Is there any way to get the wifi always on? Please....?
That's what I've been *****in' about for more than a week now...
Surely there's a way to default wifi to on, here's hoping somebody works it out before i downgrade to 2003.
i douwngraded to wm2003se..wifi on wm5 don't work at all..dosn't connect on my AP (on wm2003se is very fast)..so..because i need it i'll wait a more stable version..perhaps backlight regolation will be fixed
Backlight regulation was fixed more than a week ago! And I don't really know why you have WiFi problems, I have only one problem, that it defaults to off.

The default to off is the problem. I use my BA for work only. At home I use my wifi network to access work schedule appointments, and when in the office I use their wifi hotspot. At present i am having to tun on wifi realistically around a hundred times a day to update my joblist.
Is there a way to add any sort of utility to startup to turn it on at power on maybe?
I've tried everything to make my WiFi work but no luck.
However, I think I'll hold on because I really like WM5. I've ran through all the registry setting but nothing I've tried so far has made a difference. Enev tried downgrading the encryption settings on my MIMO. Furthermore, when I take off SSID broadcast, my BA seems to be able to see the AP but still fails to connect.
It's really annoying because I like to synchronize Avantgo over WiFi and most importantly use my BA when I'm in the bathroom doing you know what. Somebody please help!
Hey Mastiff, what security settings have you got enabled on your Access Point?

Cytrax, did you install activesync 4 to upgrade your rom? You can't sync by wifi on activesync 4 at all, they've removed the option from the program!
cytrax, I have 64 kbit WEP and MAC access control since the 128 kbit WEP was slow to access with another CE unit I have.
Thanks for that info, mastiff.
OK, this is wierd! At this particular point, WiFi works on my BA. However, it only works when I'm at work. The settings configured on Work AP is very similar to what I've got at home. The only difference is I use Netgear MIMO at home while Buffulo Airstation is deployed at work. This is really freaking me out (well, not exactly, but it's annoying).
I also tried with an old Belkin AP last night but didn't get any luck. I think I'm going to try 64bit WEP once I reach home. Watch this space!

iGuidance Fix For Kaiser / Tilt ?

I *know* I read a post some time recently that had an attachment with a fix for the iGuidance bug (won't start properly with active data connection) but no amount of searching is turning it up for me.
Anybody have that fix they could post here ? I'm using iGuidance v4.
Thanks !
DLD
I found the discussion over at PDA Phone Home
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/htc-.../93074-problems-iguidance-4-not-starting.html
thanks for the link
that script fix reeks of "kludge"
i guess i'll just manually kill the data connection when i start up iGuidance .. it's not something i do all that often

I emailed iNav tech support last week and was told to end GPRS/3G connection, start iG v4, then you can restart any data connection.
In their words,"Based on user feedback we've received so far, iguidance v4 is compatible w/ 8925 as well as its built in gps. HOWEVER, there is a conflict w/ the gprs feature on the PDA in that when gprs/evdo wireless data connection feature is turned on, iguidance will take a very long time to launch (3-5 minutes). The only way around that is by temporarily turning the gprs feature off on the phone, launch iguidance, and then re-enable gprs. Once the program is launched, you may keep your gprs turned on w/o any problem.
Hope this info helps.
Thank you.

no mention at all of intent to fix it .. lol

wow. i was just putting up with the 3 to 5 min wait. this is good info sad that they dont offer a fix.
iNav does fix things, usually at incremental release points. They seldom respond with much helpfull info when contacted. They had an active forum on GPSpassion but when they had issues with v1 and v2 they pulled the plug on the forum and went silent.
The product is good, I use it daily, but all you can do is report bugs and "hope" for a fix in the next release.
iGuidance V3
I have a AT&T Tilt and have installed iGuidance 3. It has the same behavior as version 4. The app takes 3-5 min to load unless you turn off data. I have also noticed that the voice prompts are very slow as well.
I don't expect iGuidance to fix this since its a really old version... I'll just keep using it on my Dell Axim.
Whats a good working nav app for the Tilt?

ive been an avid inav user for a long time now....but just recently tried tomtom 6 and wow what a difference.

Does that mean that you like TomTom 6 better vs iGuidance v4? Could you expand on what differences you like and why?

I agree. Tomtom interface is much better, is more accurate (iguidance freaks out some times). Only reason I am using iGuidance now is because it says street names and TomTom 6 doesnt.
I also assume that Tom Tom 6 runs without issue on the Tilt?
-Joe
I have given up on iNav IG4. I think the software has potential to become great, but their support has been utterly unacceptable. I've contact them regarding various issues including this one, and they refused in every case to fix the issue and told me it was an isolated case and blamed my equipment or software i was running.
Try to connect a corded headphone or powered speaker and run iNav. The voice will shutter. I tried this on 8525 and tilt... Guest what they said. Something is wrong with my PDA.
I've used v.3 and upgrade to v.4 because they promised the fixes for all the updates. My next upgrade to v.4 will be TomTom 6.
Interesting, I use iNav v4 all the time, generally I don't run much else while driving and it seems pretty stable for me. Occasionally it has hung, usually if I've run many apps over a few days with no soft resets. I use voice over BT headset often with iGuidance and don't see any stuttering. I'm holding with iNav but really want to try Garmin XT if they ever release a S/W only package that I can load. I just briefly played with the included TomTom taster and didn't like it as much, and no TTS and TelAtlas maps (not my fav) so I unloaded it.
For you guys with iguidance, how long does it take to acquire a GPS sat? My cursor stays red forever and never gets a signal. I have yet been able to use iguidance But if I use google maps or live search in the same spot, it picks up sats in under a minute.
Did you fix IGuidance com port for your PDA?
Yes I choose com port 4 in the GPS settings. I have tried unistalling and reinstalling, with no resolution. I am using V3 with the update. Anyone else having issues?
I have a load time of < than 10 seconds on my Kaiser for IG4.
What I have found is that I have to use static DNS settings for the current data connection to get this, otherwise load times are long. This way I do not have to deactivate the data connection.
Primary:
208.67.222.222
Alt:
208.67.220.220
Hopefully this will help others out there.
=)
*Note that IGuidance support is abysmal and because of that factor I will be switching to another program in the near future.
Looking at Copilot as a possible replacement.
Anyone have any experience with the new Copilot in the US?
I switched from CoPilot a while back, they use TelAtlas maps which were not as accurate as NavTech and IG4 to be the best all around GUI. I found their tech support equally as bad. I would switch to something else but don't see anything better right now. iGo, aka OCN in the US looks interesting but is locked to a memory card like Garmin, they can stuff that.
I just tried this, and it worked. After adding the static DNS enteries, iGuidance V4 now opens up in 5-8 seconds. Thanks for this fix.

WiFi Router HELP!!!

I may sound like a newb but here goes, how do i turn my tilt into a wifi router so i can connect such things as my psp, xbox360, etc. to the internet? You aren't the only one. I've never been able to get it to work on my Tilt, when I used to use it all the time on my Mogul.
I hear now this program costs money. If no guarantee for tilt compatibility, can refunds be granted if it doesn't work?
I must say that the IT manager at my job has this program installed on his Tilt and it works fine. He actually used it in a meeting the other day when the main signal was too weak.
He is just so busy that I haven't been able to have him check out my phone, to see what is the problem. So there is some hope for Tilt owners and WMWIFIRouter.
Worked fine on my Tilt running Sleuth 3.0 Rom.
Try the earlier version, it is still free and it works fine (just a little less polished).
I tried the WMWiFiRouter .91 once. My tilt took too long to connect to the ad hoc network so I stop using it. I think that's the problem. You have to wait until your phone to connect to the network before the router starts working.

Track 3G Data usage?

Is there any software that will track 3G data usage (and not wifi)? i'm thinking about getting the tethering plan with ATT, but i need to stay within 5GB/month so anyway to track how much i've used would be great!
SPB GPRS Monitor.

click the data tab.
thanks guys!
I'm using Battery status to track my data use.
It can be found here.

GPS will not find location

got my pro the other day... and I have garmin loaded up, and its not finding a signal so I have spent most of my day reading all posts I can find relating to the GPS, I have used the GPS viewer and it finds the GPS and once it starts I can see it will not acquire my location I could leave it for 15 mins or so and it wont lock on, google maps will not work, nor with garmin, I have tried changing the ports from 4 to 1 and others but nothing seems to work.
does any one else have this issue, and have they over come it if so how i want to use my GPS...
thanks
set your band rate to 9600
still no good.
tried the GPS viewer google maps and Garmin again...
I have similar problem and what I did is to flash new radio. Currently, I am using 1.02.25.28 radio and seems like the GPS works fine now. It can lock on less then 1 minute in one space but the signal strength is vary from low to high quite fast (not stable).
I tried to navigate with this radio and turned out to be better than the original radio shipped with the unit. But, even with this radio, my old Kaiser GPS still performs better. When I use Kaiser, GPS lock in less than 10 seconds in open space.
BTW, the GPS software is Garmin Mobile XT.

your explanation doesn't make sense at all
when i go to phone/services there is no such thing as location setting.
it lists my phone services such as call barring, caller Id, etc...
i'm using Chartcross GPS test 1.04 and set my com to 4 baud to 38400 and it is not working. Google Maps says no gps found.
i am on a stock AT&T Fuze rom... just got the phone yesterday
I also installed HTC GPS tool and those symbols and number mean nothing to me.
no real manual on how to use it unless you're technically saavy and have programming background
i also disabled AGPS like it is recommended all over this site.
*update*
my gps works now
uninstalled HTC GPS tool
also took out blackberry connect software. it seemed to be lagging my phone in general

yeah I find this to be the fastest fix. I run gpstoday, open port for gps using gpstoolpro take the step to set up gpstoday once your fix is established I set up my gpstoday app to search every 5 minute rather then staying connected due to battery. When I am ready to use my gps I load up quickGPS have it a establish a fix( average of 15 sec I have been testing it for a week and have gotten good results instants fix to a 15 second wait).once I establish a fix I load up my navigation app. a tip is to be outside or near a window when trying to find a fix. Keeping the port open does not drain the battery.

Um im running the stock at&t rom on my fuze and my tilt (but the tilt is upgraded to 6.1 by att) but um you almost had it right the answer was in the forum but mixed into a few posts. Ok so when you go to google maps click menu then click Options then gps settings and go to manual then choose com : 4 then use 9600 and bam it works on both the tilt and the fuze with stock rom's.
