Internet Explorer kills my TyTN II - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi folks
I'm unable to use Internet Explorer on my Kaiser as it freezes the device as soon as I try to visit any website. It hangs with the "Opening..." status message
Does anyone know a solution for this?
Thanks in advance!

Have you changed the location that PIE stores temp internet files?

In your settings find disable proxy button, this worked for me.

Thats because temp files and cookies are being stored on the mem card

both of you are assuming things.

I also used to have that same problem. I then replaced a webview.dll file and that solved the problem. I think that the .dll was supposed to help something with PIE opening large website or something like that. It's been awhile but if you search for it you should be able to find it. Not sure if this is the same solution for you but you can try it.

I did not change the temp file or cookie location. The proxy settings where not tampered with either. IE simply began freezing after a few months
I did however manage to find a temporary solution. If I rotated the screen by sliding out the keyboard, back and forth, it did work at times.
Now that I've updated to HTC's new WM6.1 ROM everythings back to normal again
Thanks for your help and suggestions!

Any way to get back the Pocket IE welcome page?

Hi all,
Just got my 2nd new Kaiser (first one had White Screen of Death) and it also has the home page as a black screen with the HTC logo; not too usefull. Any ideas how to get back the Welcome Screen that has your most recently opened pages and search? Thanks for any ideas...
Ok, well I tried just copying over the default_0409.htm file (checked and all the image files etc. were already in the Windows directory). This brings up the correct looking page, but the Favourites and History buttons don't work; they open File Explorer at the Windows directory instead!
Would be glad for any ideas for what is missing on my Kaiser that I could copy over from the Hermes.
I have attached the file if anyone would care to have a look; I searched to see if any other html pages were linked for example, but I don't know script...
I tried the same thing but no luck
*bump*
Does no one else want this start page in IE? Thanks in advance for any ideas...
bump, that page is on the Mio A501 and it's pretty neat !
Guess no one else likes that page, thanks for the bump though! I have been fiddling but still can't get it to work....
Solved ------> HTC's PIE_Default_409.htm
Okay, There are two ways to do this!!!! The first is time consuming & involves multiple registry changes. I can walk you through it or send you a registry file to import (if you wanna trust me ) or you can do it the easy way!
Easy Way: I'm sure many of you have the absolutely great proggy SK Tools. Well, the new release (4.1.21.x) has a "Replaced Rom Files" function. So either buy the great program or download the trial. Launch the "Replaced Rom Files" tool & check the box for the item marked PIE_Default_xxx.htm (xxx = your language code), either click & hold or check the box, then select action, then select "Restore Rom File". Then enjoy your new "original" HTC PIE Homepage with expandale History & Favorites!

Not sure, might help if you post a JPEG of the screen? The TXT file you included does not work for me.
I just put together a cab file for this today using some files posted by another xda member (I don't remember who it was to credit them).

DANG IT YOU DOG! I jumped the gun on my post! I spent the last week flashing back & digging to find all the references that kept me from changing the by just importing the default_xxx.htm. I finished my cab & logged back in to post it & darn it all if you hadn't beat me to it!

LOL. It's pretty simple to correct with all the correct files. I actually just copied the files to my Windows directory when I first tried it out but figured I'd post a cab file to make it easier on everyone else
thanks for sharing, works fine on the Nike too.
Hi,
I tried running the CAB on my stock Orange HTC ROM, but I still get the orange homepage, not the (more useful) Internet Explorer page as promised above! Any ideas?
Your folder structure must be different. Did you soft reset after install? Otherwise you can do it with SK Tools if it was part of the original ROM.
I did soft reset, but no joy. I may look into SK Tools, although I have just managed to get Opera Mini up and running, so may play around with that instead. Thanks for the advice!

You can go into PIE under Menu, Tools, Options, and see the path and filename for your current homepage. It's possible that Orange uses a different filename as the default page. If you tell me what the filename is and where it's located I can make an updated cab for you.

Here you go. This file is for devices with the Orange ROM only!
You can uninstall the old one first.
Are you guys able to browse with PIE while on 3.5G/HSDPA?
After I open PIE, I receive this same screen on my Tilt, but I'm unable to browse anywhere (my hsdpa account is activated, of course).
I receive (in the bottom left corner) a message: "connecting", but nothing happens.
On the other hand, If I browse with WIFI on, using PIE, I can enter any URL without any problems at all.
In both cases, I can send & receive emails without any problems.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
As I replied to your other post, check your proxy settings. Which data plan do you have? Are you connecting to WAP or ISP?

New WM6/Tilt user, please help!

Hello-
I'm new to Windows Mobile (I've been on Palm OS for at least 5 years) and I have AT&T Tilt (8925).
I've been playing around with it for a while, and there's still some things I have questions on-
1)How do I complete remove some programs that I do not want and don't appear under "Remove Programs"? I know they're located in the Windows folder, but I get a Error 5 whenever I try to delete them- I think they're read-only or something...
2) I'm also having problems with the GPS receiver. At times it will work great, acquiring a signal in seconds, and other times it won't work at all, searching for a long time to find nothing. I use Live Search and Google Maps and have the same problem with both.. Any ideas?
3) Coming from Palm OS, I'm used to text messages coming up in a view. Is there a way to change that?
4) I modified my PTT button to work as any program. Is there a specific registry key I can set it to so that it acts as a power button?
5) I use gmail and I'm using their IMAP service. Some of my messages are appearing blank when downloaded. Was I supposed to change settings or something? Why does it only work for some and not others?
6) And last but not least, does anybody have any good mod/util programs to recommend?
Thanks for your help
Also,
7) Does anyone know how to disable the sound on the 3G launch screen when the device reboots?
I havent got too many answers to your questions, but this would be a sart at least.
KaiserTweak has many necessary customizations (but I dont think it addresses most of your questions.)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333898
The apps you want to remove sounds like the Cingular built-in ones. In that case you can avoid installing them by doing a hard reset, and rebooting before it installs the carrier customizations.
This article gives a step by step howto.

Also this page was useful in getting my GPS problems sorted out. The GPSTEST software seemed to cure the problem all by itself (and its freeware)

Yeah, I've got KaiserTweak already, I love it.
In terms of the "bloatware", that is indeed what I want to remove, but there's also some that I want to keep... Is there a way to remove programs that arent in "Remove Programs"?
Not AFAIK, but the actual AT&T apps are available as a separate cab in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332438
Unfortunately they are still bundled together, but at leas they can be cleanly uninstalled.

Even after bypassing the bloatware install, the CAB files should still be on the device for you to install them on your own. Might take a bit of digging to find the proper ones and you may need something like Resco Explorer, or Total Commander to "see" them. I think the built in file explorer hides some of the system files, but I couldn't tell you much more than that.
Thanks. The GPS Fix doesn't seem to do much- am I missing something?

Are you able to run it. You should be able to use it to test the function of your GPS device, and find out what port it uses etc. Its a smartphone program, so you have to use it using the keys, not the touch screen.

It seems to help and it's definately a very useful app. I'll let you know if my problems persist.
Does anyone have any ideas on the other issues I'm having?

PIE bug?

I've tried searching and didn't find anything, but i know i've heard of this bug before...
After about a day my internet explorer will not load any pages. It will show "Done" and just have a white screen. Only way to fix is to soft reset. My internet works fine otherwise (emails come in, HTC weather updates) but QuickGPS also fails to download its updates (and kindly notifies me at 2 in the morning). Is there a fix for this, besides using opera? Not that i don't like opera, but the java security warnings are really annoying when you want to look something up real quick....and i would like QuickGPS to be able to update automatically.
Thanks.

Please DO search the Wikiif you have problems like this. In the MIDlet Bible, I've explained how you can get rid of these - see http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=The (Java) MIDlet Bible . Also, you'll want to read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1665380&postcount=4 on signing
Thanks, i'll try that for opera. Anyone know how to fix IE though?
I have just started experiencing the EXACT same problem as the OP. A search of the forum brought back only this thread. Has anybody else experienced this problem? Any solutions? Thanks!
Are you using a tilt on AT&T???
Most likely your internet settings got messed up FOr AT&T all you need to do is use the restore hidden proxy cab, also DL the remove Hidden Proxy cab. For other carriers you'll need to redo the conection settings manually or search for a setting cab.
Yes, it's a tilt on AT&T. If I do a soft reset I can pull up my google homepage again.
Same problem here. I have never found a solution other than a soft re-boot. Very annoying.
I have an Att Tilt also and have recently been experiencing the exact same problem with PIE.

Internet Explorer not working

Hi all,
I installed KaiserTweak yesterday, and although I think its a great application, Pocket Internet Explorer won't connect to any links. I don't know if it's related or not.
Firstly, the home page won't open, and no links open when selected in Favourites -- its says connecting at the bottom, and 0%.
I can connect with Opera, but I still like to use IE for some pages.
Anyone experienced this?
Thanks guys,
Ratzz
Does it look like its loading and then nothing comes up after it finishes real quick? I think this is a known issue. Forgot where I saw the fix. I just soft reset and its back.
Yep, thats it - tries the s/r but didnt fix.
I'd love to find that thread you mentioned...
Thanks for the info...

I had this problem on WM6.1 ROM with ce-star installed, PIE won't load any pages with this combination.
have you tried clearing the cookies and cache files? maybe a clean up is in order
All cleared up, but still no connection.
No error message, just a blank screen.
Any other ideas guys?
Not sure if Kaiser Tweak does this but did you change the location of where PIE stores the temp internet files. Also, try going back to the tweak and resetting everything to default. (for testing)
If you are using ATT to connect a hidden proxy has to be enabeled, don't know if that applies to T mobile as well.
i am having a similar problem with my IE. only difference is i cant seem to get an active internet signal for anything. it was working one second then not working the next. i cant send/recieve email or anything. any ideas guys??

If using T-Mobile DO NOT enable hidden proxy.
It's funny how I just responded to you with this cause now I'm in the same boat! s/r does not fix. Working one day, gone the next. Now I've gotta search for the thread I saw with the fix. Are you using the latest ROM from AT&T for the tilt..?
SOLUTION...
Its easy just don't use your SD to keep Temp, cookies, history, etc...
I was having the same problem until that changes.
Where do you change theses settings.. I know... NOOB question. I have thought I saw it somewhere but now I cant find it...

Or you could check in Tweak under PockectIE >Proxy Auto Detect> Enabled (proxy = disabled)
This setting solved my problem along with all the good folks here on xda!! I'm a NOOB but this worked for me.. I had everything else working and had used Opera Mini 9.5 beta and Opera Mobile successfully but could not get IE to load a page. It would act like it was loading, display 0%, but nothing happened. Hope this helps..
ATT Tilt
Rom: Dutty's 3.08...? (WM6.1)
Tweaks for pockey IE..? I did'nt see that option. Only general, memory, & security options under tools in IE. Is this located somewhere else or is it a CAB tweak..? Thanks.
I'm having the same problem, has anyone found a solution yet?

Change hourglass/waiting cursor

Hi all,
already searched the forum and even tried Google, but it's not my friend this time.
I don't really like the standard hourglass on my Raphael, I would like it to be some more in TF3D style or at least without the white background.
I found out you can change it with a Marshall's Waiting Cursor program, but the developer's site is down and there is no other place you can download the program as far as I know.
Is there another useful program to change it? Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks in advance!
Hi,
His site seems to be working on my end...
I don't know any other software that does the same. I uses Marshall's program for a while on my Tilt, seemed to be working ok. The occasional glitch though.
Cheers,
Cacti
i second MWC2.

Thanks, the site works here now too. Strange.
I'll try it, since it's the only way to change the cursor. Is it so hard to create such cursors?
Wisbar Advance also has the option of customizing the wait cursor. However it is not freeware.
The cursor images/frames are stored in one of tthe dl's(or dll.mui.*) in Windows folder. Open the dll in PC using some resource editor(PE Explorer or Resource Tuner for example) and change those bitmaps. Copy it to your Windows folder back using Resco Explorer(this is the only one, which can overwrite ROM files) and restart.
Anyone that's using MWC2 ever notice their device randomly turning on?
Last time I tried it my screen would come on out of nowhere. Once I uninstalled it the problem went away.
