does anyone know how to do this? i guess normally with windows mobile and active sync it syncs files to "my documents" folder on the device, which is organized in a practical way with all of the folders you'd need to organize all of your files but with the onboard storage space you'd be lucky to be able to store a small ammount of music. I guess i have around 100mb of storage on my phone and 8gigs on my microsd card which i'd rather use for syncing files. i tried cutting and pasting the documents folder on my phone to my card, but active sync just recreates this folder on my phone and won't let me sync any file(s) larger than the small size that is allowed on my phone. anyone know how to get active sync to sync files to a folder on your memory card? thanks. btw, if it matters i have a tilt with the shipped rom.
Personally all I do is open "my mobile device" in My Computer select the right folder I want to store to on the memory card and simply drag and drop
you can use a tool named "mobsync".
i think it would fit perfect to your needs.
The newest Version of mobsync is commercial, but you can find older versions on the internet, which are freeware.

when i just got a 4 gb card for my Tilt, i noticed that it automaitcally made a my documents folder after i took a couple pictures and had it automatically store them on my card, now when i go to my documents it only show what's in my documents that was saved to the device not what's saved in the card, i have to go to file explorer/storage card/my documents to look at what's on the card, so basically i have to different my documents i have to navigate two, is there a way to fix this so i only have to go to what's on the card, and will i have this probem for any other folders and/or programs were i have to look between the device and card?

1, please use punctuation so that your post is much easier to grasp
2, that is, basically, you want to configure the camera to store its pictures in \My Documents on the card and not in the default \DCIM? The solution is very simple and, actually, I have linked it before (see the Wiki - http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...e software & hacking news (11-17-2007) & tips ): http://www.modaco.com/content/HTC-K...4/HOW-TO-Make-the-Camera-save-to-My-Pictures/
I think i may have phrased that wrong. Basically I have "My Documents" in two places on my Tilt. One in the device memory and one in the storage card. I didn't create either of them, the one in the storage card was created automatically after i took a pic and it gave me an option were i want to save the pic to (device or storage card) I selected storage card and that's were the second "my documents" file was created. I'd like the 2nd 'my documents" folder to be the main one, so can i just delete the folder in the device storage? One thing I noticed if i got to settngs/menus and see what options i want to put on the start menu, i only have the option of the "my documents" under the device storage, not the sd card "my documents" which is the one i want to use.
I have installed Pocket Informant on my memory card but somehow it saves all my daily notes somwhere in phone memory. Last time I carried out the hard reset I lost all my daily notes. How can I make it save all daily notes on my memory card instead of phone memory or can someone help me to locate the file in which Pocket informat saves all its data so I can back it up?
They are saved in My Documents in the phone memory - not on the card.
AFAIK Pocket Informant shares data with Windows Mobile (contact, task, calendar). Just save your notes to storage card.
Regarding the setting of PI, it's located on Main Memory \Application Data\WebIS.

Thanks dgduris but can you give me the name of the file in which data is saved. I'm trying to find it in my documents folder but nothing looks like a file created by Pocket Informant.
@cayotte That's the problem I can't make it save the daily notes in the memory card. I've tried to find something in PI options but there was nothing there.
"Regarding the setting of PI, it's located on Main Memory \Application Data\WebIS"
Ok but do you mean that only "settings" is saved in that folder?
And there's a difference between normal notes and Pocket Informant daily notes. I can save normal notes in my memory card but can't do the same with daily notes(I can view them only in Pocket Informant).

Cayotte is right in that PI shares PIM data with WM.
And AFAIK, PI (from version 8 onwards) stores settings in the registry and no longer in a settings file in \Application Data\WebIS.
As for the loss of the daily notes, can't help u there, I'm afraid. I did encounter this problem when I was using PI version 7, following some unrelated hard resets.
I didn't have the chance to test this with PI8 yet (fingers crossed).
Maybe you can try the forums at pocketinformant.com?
Hello everbody,
I searched the complete WIKI, but I didn't find a working solution for changing the default "my documents" folder from the internal memory to the storage card. Only changing the registry key "NoSubFolderIn" doesn't work.
Is someone out there, who has already solved the problem???

The only thing I did was create the folder myself on my memory card then switch the programs I use to save and load from that folder, via the options in the program. I imagine this cannot be done for every program but it's certainly better than nothing.

Thanx for your reply.
I understood what you meant but that wasn't the solution I was searching for. Normally you just have to tweak a registry key and the Windows Mobile OS thinks, that it should use the "My Documents" Folder on the storage card. This would be very useful, if you activate the "File Synchronisation" in ActiveSync. For example: When you want to synchronise a lot of MP3s with your Device it's not good when they're automatically stored in the "My Documents" Folder in the internal memory. It would be much better, when they're automatically stored in the "My Documents" Folder at the storage card, because it has a capacity of ~16GB.
In other version of the Windows Mobile OS (for example ver. 6.0) there were some easy tweaks to do this. But in version 6.1 these tweaks don't work.
Someones out there who has another solution for this problem?
Best regards,

Sorry,
but the "Advanced Config" Tool themse to work, but when I'm using the "File Synchronisation" via active sync, the synched file is placed into a new created "My Documents" Folder in internal memory (not on the storage card as it should). Very annoying :-(((
Someone an idea for a workaround or has someone made the same experience with SE Xperia X1 and the "My Documents" Folder???
Best Regards,
Joern
would say it an activesync issue rather then an x1 issue
suppose that ms feels that as storage is removable mem it's
not something you can depend on always being there so if
programs 100% depend on storage being there sd cards is not
seen as a valid choice as a program activesync too should be prepared
for having the sdcard being ejected in the middle of a sync
kinda like having my documents on pc relocated to a floppy or dvd-rw disc

Not sure if this applies to newer versions of Windows Mobile any more or even if it will fix your problem, but it won't do any harm to try...
Delete the file "Ignore_My_Documents.txt" if it exists on your storage card. This file was mean't to stop windows being bogged down with searching the storage card for documents and concentrate on internal storage. Don't worry about deleting it, as it reappears when you remove/re-insert your card next time.
This is easy
I've been doing this for years:
Using a registry editor on your phone, go to:
[HKLM\System\StorageManager\Profiles\SDMemory]
Change:
Folder = "My Documents"
Name = "My Documents"
Close Registry Editor, open a File Explorer and delete the original "My Documents" folder. Reboot.
When it comes up, your SD card will be your My Documents folder.
NOTE!
My Documents will be recreated if you reboot with the SD Card out. If you fail to delete the regular My Documents folder prior to rebooting... your SD card will resort to "My Documents 2". This of course will break your links to anything installed on it.
SOLUTION: Just delete the original My Documents folder and either:
A.) Plug into USB as Mass Storage (which removes the SD card) then unplug it (which will restore it as "My Documents"
OR
B.) Reboot
Here is my UC XML file code that I launch during first boot.
Since the UC will automatically reboot, it will initially come up as "My Documents 2"... so finish making some customizations, delete the original "My Documents" and reboot (you usually have to a few times for program install anyway).
Code:
<!-- SDCard Hack -->
<characteristic type="HKLM\System\StorageManager\Profiles\SDMemory">
<parm name="Folder" datatype="string" value="My Documents"/>
<parm name="Name" datatype="string" value="My Documents"/>
</characteristic>
VERY Seldom do I have to delete the Original "My Documents" folder. As long as you typically leave the microSD card installed you'll be fine. Even when plugged in to USB as Mass Storage, the original "My Documents" should never return.
Probably one of the best edits for the Windows Mobile.
Solves SO many things:
- Themes loaded from SD
- Ringtones, Backgrounds
- Bluetooth auto saves to "My Documents" (which is the memory card now!)
- Pictures auto save to "My Documents" (you get the picture)
- When installing apps to the SD Card, choose "My Documents" (Storage Card won't even show up)
I've never had a SINGLE problem doing this. If anything it makes everything work... especially loading pics and music from Today Plugins like HTC TouchFlo 3D.
Sorry for the question since it's my first WM...
I installed many apps to main memory and storage card also, but all .cabs are grouped in the "apps" folder I made on card,
It shouldn't be a problem?
I did the mentioned procedure and the only problem I noticed so far is:
When I edit tasks I receive Error:
Code:
Could not create the voice link recording directory.
Can anyone tell me the name of that directory as I think if I manually created in My Documents it should work.

Sorry but I'm not too impressed by this hack.
You end up loosing your file syncing, I also like to have my large music folder separate my from My Documents on the memory card - which you cannot do with this hack... and other problems.
Had my hopes up for that fix, but then realised it will think the whole car is the my documents folder.
Ive done a search of the registry and changed every /my documents path to /internal memory/my documents, but this doesnt work for everything, and it seems there are still some programs which recreate my docs on the main storage (This is for HTC Touch Diamond).
The main issue for me is being able to sync with activesync to the new location of the my documents.
Hello all,
It was suggested to me to post this question here.
I am looking for a way to basically poing any and all possible to the storage card. I think I remember a couple years back finding one for my Hermes here at XDA-Developers.com but now I can't seem to locate it??
I would like it if someone knows how to or an app to do this if they could let me know. I think I remember the other one being a .cab that directed everything to the card.
Does this make sense to anyone?
PS: I know on the camera app you can select the device or the card.
Make it little clear
do you want to receive files(say songs etc) through bluetooth and get them stored in memory card and want to place inbox in memory card ?
chand
the moon
Well what I was thinking was I would like any and all files to be stored on the card.
For instance, when active-sync creates a short cut on the desktop (pc) for files to be sync'd there is a list of folders... If I click "Explore" in AS it opens to files on my device. Now if I follow it correctly, all the files in the (pc) desktop shortcut leads to the folders in the "My Docs" on the device.
The last sentenance is what I would like to change, I would like for any and all files besides apps or system files to be stored on the card.
Meaning, no "My docs" on the device memory, just the card.
Is there a way in the registry or something else to change the path for said folders to be redirected to the memory card?
I don't think there is an app that will do this
SKTools has a "move file" option that says it will move the file and update information in the registry, but its not clear if this applies to folders
Now, you could try using a registry editor with find-replace to find all instances of "/My Documents" and change it to something like "/Storage Card/My Documents", then soft reset and see if that works -- I can't seem to find a registry editor that does find and replace like this -- anyone?
Advanced Config Tool (attached) will allow you to specify default locations for directories.
Hey guys
Anyways I want to know if it is possible to change a setting somewhere to get my Kaiser to work like a flash disk, at the moment I have an 8 gig memory card in it and it takes forever to copy files to and from it, you also need to have Active Sync or Windows Mobile Manager installed on the PC to be able to do so...
All I want to have is, when I plug my Kaiser in, a REMOVABLE STORAGE link appears on my Desktop and it works like a flash disk will... I also have a problem when doing it through ActiveSync that when copying files FROM the phone to desktop or wherever, the files doesnt copy or appear on the PC... I've read on the net that you can find it in your PC's TEMP folder but I cant find it and this is not how it is suppose to work...
Any help would be apreciated
Thanks in advance.
search some more and you will find the following facts (which i am listing here because i am in a good mood, but you should still search because you will find more details that way):
1. a program (not free, i.e. commercial) called "card export" will allow you to do what you desire in terms of exposing your microsd card as removable storage when you connect to your PC via usb...see point 4 below also
2. another program called "wm5torage" MIGHT work depending on which version of wm5torage you try and which particular ROM you try it on. its a bit of a hit and miss affair, though. in my experience, wm5torage worked only ONCE, and i was using winmo6.0 back then...it has NEVER worked for me on winmo6.1 or winmo6.5 ROMs...see point 4 below also
3. newer devices from htc are able to do what you desire out-of-the-box. this is because these devices contain the necessary drivers to enable the functionality but, sadly, these drivers were never shipped with the kaiser and no one has (yet) found a way to hack the drivers of newer devices to work with the kaiser.
4. WHATEVER mechanism you try, it WILL BE SLOW. this is because the kaiser has a usb2.0 COMPLIANT interface. the "compliant" term essentially means that the device can WORK on a usb2.0 interface but not at full usb2.0 SPEED.
5. activesync will always work to PUT files on the kaiser. GETTING files FROM the kaiser is "buggy" with activesync. as a workaround to activesync, i use "schaps htc network plugin" on my kaiser. what this wonderful little piece of kit does is that it will allow you to map folders that point to one or more "network drives". if you set up a shared folder (with FULL ACCESS to "Everyone") on your desktop/laptop, you can use the network plugin to map a folder (usually under "\Network") and then you can freely read/write files using any file manager on your kaiser over WIFI as well as over activesync. so when i want to retrieve something from my kaiser, i establish an activesync or wifi connection and then i browse the shared folder from the kaiser and dump whatever i want on to the desktop/laptop's shared folder.
6. another alternative is to use the remote desktop application. this will let you access your desktop's/laptop's desktop remotely (over wifi as well as over activesync) from your kaiser. in the "Options" of the remote desktop application, you will find a setting under the "Resources" tab called "Device storage"...setting this option to "Map to the remote machine" will make your device's "\" folder (including the "\Storage Card" folder) available to your desktop/laptop in "My Computer". the catch is that you will have to use your desktop's/laptop's desktop on the tiny QVGA screen of your kaiser.
7. LUCKY SEVEN is the BEST OPTION in my opinion. simply buy a cheap microsd card reader and when you need to use your microsd card as a usb drive, simply pop out the card from the kaiser, slide it into the card reader, and you'll have a fully functional 8GB usb flash drive. desktop windows won't know the difference and the speed is phenomenal! as a benchmark, it takes about 10 minutes to copy about 200MB using activesync. the card reader will do the same operation in under a minute! it seems htc has designed the kaiser's microsd card slot to be "hot swappable" but i recommend closing all file browsers and any programs running from your microsd card or any programs accessing files/data from your microsd card before removing the card from the kaiser. also recommended is to turn off any and all power saving options set for your microsd card slot on your kaiser.
good luck!
Thank you very much good sir.

I second Card Export, i've tried so many different options for my Kaiser and it was the only program/option that was able to do this.
