remap hold power button? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

hello
on my old iPAQ with WM 2002, I could hold the power button to show me options like:
- change profile (silent, loud, etc.)
- turn off background light
etc
the most useful, IMO, is in fact the change profile
anyone know if it's possible to remap the "hold power button" to a little menu like that (it can also contain a "shutdown" option)?

advanced config

gonna try it
thanks very much

PTT remap question on AT&T tilt

I use the PTT remap and it works like a champ great little proggy.
Short press - toady screen long press HTC Action screen.
Though nice I'd like to have either "Backlight" or even "Full brightness backlight" on button 6. any chance to do this? I'm not afraid hacking the reg.
Yes, go into the Windows folder and find the app called Backlight.exe. make a shortcut to it and move that shortcut into the Windows > Start Menu > Programs folder. Then go to the buttons option and change the PTT button to fire up the Backlight shortcut. I don't use the regular Buttons option to do this with mine, I use AE Button Plus, but it should work the same way.
I almost went that far already BUT is there an option to set the default and/or adjust backlight setting to full brightness?
Here's a great utility I found yesterday after searching for "backlight" on here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=413137&highlight=backlight
The shortcut I use is \Program files\bl\bl02.exe 0 4 9 Press PTT once it is off, press again and it is about medium, press again and it's on full. You can change it to \Program files\bl\bl02.exe 1 9 and it would go from dim or bright each time you press it. I'm not sure how many arguments you can pass, but people have been able to use 5 with no troubles.

Help: Want to remap hard button

Hi all,
Anyone can help to remap the hard button??
I want to change the Home key to Alt-tab, and the Back key change to OK/Close (1 press for ok and long press for real close the application). I have tried AE button plus, but not function very well.
Attached is the Alt-tab s/w i have used.
Don't know why HTC put a Home and Back key in WM pro device
Thank you very much,
did you reset the device after you changed the settings?
yes, but still doesn't work
There's a software called Hbutton. You might wanna try it.
Just tried Hbutton, but it doesn't work on diamond.........
Awww.. now how am I gonna survive on the diamond without Hbutton?!
There's another software called SmartSkeys (or something oike that) Not sure of it'll work.
Anyone got any suggestions on which software to use to map diamond buttons to many functionalities?
This one works on Diamond: AE Button Plus.
To my understanding from testing AEButton on the Diamond, I have realized that:
The HOME key cannot be remapped.
The Back key is essentially a "WIN" key. You can create a new button and remap the Back key. HOWEVER, the shortcuts DOES NOT WORK when you are at today screen. So here is what I do, I remapped the Back key single click to "Escape". double click to close program, long click to close all programs.
Thats the only logical thing i can think about using the back button due to the limitations.
Any ideas?
Escape = ok/close ?
With AEB Plus I managed to map "action long" to "task manager", but the setting doesn't seem to survive a soft reset.
Problem with TouchFLO 3D.
Disable TouchFLO 3D, you might map home/ok button by mappingware.
Setting -> Personal -> Today -> Items
Use SortInchKey, if you enable TouchFLO, you might map VolUp/VolDown/Ok(exclude Today screen) buttons.
Tried AE Button Plus 2.6.3, the "ok" button in AE Button Plus list can refer to back key, my setting is press 1 to minimize, long press to close current application. However, AE Button Plus can't handle the Home button. I already sent a request to them, hope their next version can sort it out.
I'm posting here to find this later. I use AEB on all my devices and want a Diamond. Hopefully it gets "worked out".

Yes, the mappings worked when TouchFLO was disabled. But when TouchFLO was enabled again, the mappings then didn't work.
Can someone please help me?
I use a golf GPS/Scoring program on my diamond (mobile golf scorer) and on it there is an option to use hardware button to turn display on/off, this keeps the gps active permantly. Its mapped in the program as 'button c' which from what i can tell should be the 'right hardware button' on a usual ppc.
I'm trying to map it as 'back button' using AEBPlus but it will only work on the main diamond screen or 'today' screen. I've tried mapping it to various buttons on the diamond but When i start the golf program it does not work.
Has anyone any ideas? I need to remap a button that will turn the display off no matter what i'm running.
Thanks again
I'd love to change the function of the "Back Button" aswell,
it has been annoying me since the first day I got it.
HButton seemed very promising, but sadly, it doesn't work.
Do hardware keys also have a registry number like the softkeys?
Like 112/113 for the softkeys?
Wondering anyone will use "Home" and "Back" button regularly....Maybe u guys can share your experience on how to smartly use this 2 buttons as I don't have any idea.........
Hello everyone!
This topic is very actual especially on all russian forums (hpc.ru 4pda.ru 4pda.info). Did anyone overcomed this difficulty with remapping hardware buttons? I tryed AEButton Plus but I was unsuccessfull in remapping the dimaond's "back" button - is there any one who did it? Please share the experience - it would be very very usefull to remap this button and to bind it to launching Dynamo3 task manager.
Thanks in advance.
ILya.
None of the programs named here work correctly on the Diamond, including AE Buttons Plus.
However, these buttons CAN be mapped. I know that because the capacitive buttons tester program can detect and show that you pressed these buttons. While this program is active, if you press the home key, it shows that you pressed the home key, but you don't go to the home screen. So it's possible, but only HTC knows how. We need their API's.

so this method willn't work too? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355141
the silly part on the htc side is to have 3 of 4 hw buttons do almost the same - if you are in an application, pressing home, back or hang-up button will act as "escape". am i wrong?
for one thing, it would be at least useful to have an "ok" button.
the ideal setup for me would be to use the "go to the tf3d home tab" function of the home key by pressing the "hang-up" button and use the home key as "ok"...

switch on the display

Is it possible to use central circle button to switch on the display of the PDA instead of use ON/OFF button?
Thank you.
would like to know if the center button can be map as the power button too.
Its not as you asked, bight might be worht considering:
If you go to settings>system>Lock Buttons and choose do not lock buttons, then all the buttons including the center button will trun on the screen.
Yes. Now every time I want to switch on the display I have to push the upper ON/OFF button and I think it would be better if i could do it by pressing the central circle button?
Thank you
Yes omar32, but i do not like this option because if all buttons are enabled, it is very easy to push them accidentalty and to do calls, etc that you do not want. I want that when the PDA is deactivated, i can switch display on with ON/OFF button or pressing the central circle button, but with others buttons disabled.
Thank you
I agree with you guys. If diamond is a phone why it can behave like a real normal phone. Using this stupid ON/OFF button is very inconvenient and annoying! I miss normal lock keypad-I mean like in SE press * and lock button(s0ft button) to unlock in reverse direction. To get this feature I have to use 3d party software like s2u2 which does the thing but destroys other like receiving MMS etc. I'm getting bored of this phone ale looking for all the time for the compromise between one feature I need and another.Just wanted a PHONE with possibilities of PDA not PDA with option of PHONE
So, is it no possible to use central circular hw button to switch on the display?

Hi
I can tell you how I "resolved" this problem possibly closest to the "normal" phone
First: in settings /system -> key lock -> set: DON't lock the buttons
Second: because pressing ON/OFF button is very inconvenient we have to bypass it..There are few programs *.exe which does exactly the same what ON/OFF button. So search the web for turnOff.exe and map it with soft key manager to any of the soft buttons you like(right or left). This lets you turn off the phone without pressing ON/OFF button on the top.
Third: Because now buttons are not locked it's easy to wake up the phone in the pocket and press sth on the touch screen so you have to use s2u2 for locking/unlocking. And that's all you have to do is spend some time on configuring s2u2 this is the hardest thing here.
Now you can wake up the phone with any button you like and unlock it in iPhone style(thanks to s2u2), when want to lock it you press the soft button mapped to turnOff.exe and that's it- you got your phone locked and turned off.
If somebody knows a different way to do it please share with us

AE Button Plus Survey

Hi, all. New Fuze owner, new XDA-Developers user. Thanks for all the great tips I've found here so far. These are great forums.
I recently installed AE Button Plus to see if I could improve the functionality of the hardware buttons. I have been able to add additional functions to a couple, but some haven't worked and I'm having a hard time mapping the buttons in the program list to the hardware. For example, the app lists App Button 1, App Button 2, App Button 3, App Button 4, and App Button 5, and as far as I can tell, these don't do anything. I also have Long Send and PPT (Hold) listed, neither of which is a separate button. (I also have Button #40C7, which I think is the PTT button I added to the registry manually a couple of weeks ago.) On the other hand, the Home and Back keys aren't listed at all.
For those of you who use the product, would you mind posting the following?
1. Which buttons (as well as softkeys, etc.) have you been able to remap?
2. For each button, what is it called in the program list?
3. For each button, have you been able to map all four functions (short press, long press, double tap, triple tap) to it?
4. Anything else you feel might be helpful?
I hope I have explained this is a way that makes sense. If not, please let me know.
Thanks very much in advance for any help you can give me.
hey, always kool 2 hear from new ppl (im kinda new myself!)
i have only tried 2 remap a couple of buttons but they have both worked for me.
1. Enter/Action:
-single press=press enter (call default handler)
-double press=press left softkey (helpfull for pressing the send key while texting)
-long press=flashlight (button lights up in dark and is quick)
2. Red phone button
-single press=taskfacade (hitting it does nothing more than the home key, so i made it into a taskmanager)
i didn't really find the need to remap anymore keys because of the default one's on the keyboard (internet, text message, email, and comm)
There are many buttons in the app that aren't on the phone. To Map the Home key, you have to Add Button (on the left soft key menu).
I map it to the Start Menu...which I have as QuickMenu. seriously, once you go Quick, you never go back.
Keep in mind, for some reason the Home key will ALWAYS go to the Today Screen, then do whatever you map it to in AEB...this is a known issue.
Good Luck!
I disabled the hard-volumekeys. I now use them as follows:
Up:
2x = enable bluetooth
3x = enable vibrate mode
hold = psShutXP
Down:
2x = close S2U2 (ilock)
hold = camera
Powerbutton (not with AEB-plus):
short: screen off
long: enable S2U2 (because I had several problems taking the phone out of my pocket with a warning the phone was powering off)
Left soft:
icontact
Right soft:
TomTom Navigator
I have tried to map the following:
Green Button
Single press = Press Green Button
Double press = Run application(Launch Manager)
Long press = Could not be mapped!
Red Button
Single press = Press Red Button
Double press = Task Manager
Long press = Could not be mapped!
The home button and the cancel button could not be mapped!!
all i did was remap the home button to open start menu (wm6.5) and the end key to actually end the program rather than minimize it
I'm on a custom rom (RRE WM 6.5 v4).
The PTT button on my Fuze by default on this ROM is customizable so I have that bring up Task Facade (a program switcher) on short press and hTorch on long.
AEB handles
volume up:
-short - vol up
-long - wifi on
volume down:
-short - vol up
-long - close dialup connection
Do you guys think AE button plus has a battery drain since it's always running? I've been running it for years, but now I'm trying to find sources of my battery drain.
has anyone else experienced significant lag in the pressing the button and it performing the task?
i only used the trial on an oem fuze rom and mapped the double push of the down key to the task manager and a single push to do the normal move down..it would lag horribly to do either task and i never could get the long press to work reliably..
i havent tried it on a cooked rom and never bought the full version due to these issues..
All buttons can be remapped except short home and short red I think, here's my setup and the config file.
(only deviations from default)
VolUp Long - SPB Now screen
VolDown Long - MemMaid Reclaim RAM
Home Twice - SPB My Menu
Home Long - Start Menu
Back Twice - force close
Back Long - task switch
Green once - SPB Dial Tab
Green twice - resco explorer
Green 3x/Long - classic dialer
Red Twice - Rotate screen
Red Long - display off (note that Long End Key app must be set to Lock in odrer for this key to be mappable)
It's got more features than my Artemis and there are still "keys" to be assigned
For the questions above - no battery drain noticed and no lag on Energy ROM 2
The culprit of your battery drain is most likely activesync running 24/7 or try another radio version, also some today plugins can cause serious drain (I tested SPB, iLauncher, Pocket Digital Clock, HomeScreen ++ and SPB Diary with no drain but I had some that ate my Raph's battery in just two days)

has to be activesync 24-7...but I know that...too stubborn to get rid of it b/c it's so damn convenient. I just thought push mail was supposed to be efficient...
I'll keep using AE button plus. I recommend it all the time. GREAT program.

All those who want to remap home, back and other keys, which AEButton doesn't process properly, look HERE.
The second version is almost finished and it has more options and can process double clicks like AEButton. I'll upload it in a day or two.

anyone interested or know how to change task manager hardkey to menu key

Miss having the menu key..example go to xda app and cannot pull up other options because of this ridficulous hardkey when alternatives exist for task switching. This will need remapping..have seen it done for camera and power but wondered if there is any interest in this. I do I not have a solution but am asking. Thanks.
All you have to do is long press that button and becomes menu

think long press goes to S finder
Good work, but long press is menu, I use it all the time.

I used xposed additions module to remap it. Also mapped the volume keys, home and power buttons to change music, play/pause and activate torch respectively while I was at it.
